Quick As You Like! (A Devious Adventure)

To be honest, I wan't trying to start a debate about different playstyles. I was just pointing out some complications that could be added to the quest to create some more dynamic tension:

  • No fast travel
  • Carriage drives won't transport a "slave"
  • Slut magnet (pulls NPCs to the characters to assault them)

These above are all in Deviously Cursed Loot as part of the Cursed Collar Quest and work quite effect there.

Others:

  • Move quest giver to "The Drunken Huntsman".  This would put the quest start at a lower character level and the tavern is more in theme with the quest;
  • Slave/Slut/High Security Devices (maybe more for subsequent follow on quests that might be shorter in length or perhaps for high level characters);
  • Replace armbinder with shackles or a yoke (again probably for shorter quests/higher level characters). However, put a calm animal effect on the character so it isn't completely lethal;
  • Pursuers (as it is fairly easy to avoid bandits) that give the player a day's head start. If caught player gets sent back to start and rebound;
  • If using Frostfall add exposure protection to the devices.  The character then might have to make a choice between protection and being bound.  For the current quest it is not too much of an issue because the exposure isn't generally too deadly until the final leg of the journey and most characters should have found some protective clothing by then, but maybe for different paths.

These could also be options in an MCM, so to keep the challenge/frustration at the right level for a player.

I agree with the MCM menu, that is always a plus, but it might be more for the future since Doc hasn't actually said he is going to work on this more.  And while I like the idea of pursuers, again that might be a needless complication when using something like Dev, Helpless.

One of the things I've noticed is that many people commenting do one (or both) of two things: they ditch the armbinder as soon as they possibly can and/or they find someway to avoid running from the start point all the way across Skyrim.  I have done the quest either three or four times so far (can't remember) only on the first was the blur effect applied (and then not removed), and only on the most recent were the tattoos applied (as I needed to update and didn't realize it).  Twice I have finished the race wearing a chastity belt, and once I finished with every device possible other than a blindfold; and that was at level 1 and happened simply because I couldn't out run things or simply had bad luck getting stuck between groups of bandits who wanted to rape me and groups of animals that wanted to eat me.

Is this hard to do without doing one's best to get out of parts of the race? Yes, and that is the freaking point, particularly if extra devious mods are added. We are not playing as Rowan Atkinson at the start of the 2012 Olympics here. If this were a "real" race (in the presented context) for a cash prize (which is what the promoter promises) anyone who removed the restraints and/or cheated to get to the finish line would likely get a sound flogging and be locked in extra restraints after being sexually used by the race promoters and other contestants as punishment.  Cheaters never prosper and all that.

Your take on the parameters of the race are strange.  The quest is called As Quick As you Like.  Removing restraints, stealing horses, using carriages, and boats would all be part of the quest and cannot be considered cheating in anyway shape or form.  Otherwise, the restraints would be added in such a way that they cannot be removed at all.

From my perspective you really have to go out of your way to get molested by the bandits in this quest.  I have done the run twice all of the way on foot -- once at level 1 and once at about level 13 with dragons and Frostfall. I use all of the usual devious mods and have mods that increase spawns such as Immersive Creatures and ASIS.

If you know Skyrim fairly well you can literally do the whole quest without running into a single bandit/hostile NPC.  You really have to collude with the game to get attacked.  The Frostfall mod made the game almost too difficult because the weather can be very lethal once in the Northern holds -- especially since the mod denies the player using water as an escape route.

But otherwise, once you get to Riften the quest becomes just a matter of watching your character run after that -- so basically it just takes more time than using a carriage.

Having options in an MCM to vary the challenge would cater to both different player styles and different player moods.  I really don't see how adding more options diminishes your enjoyment of the game.  Why you find difficult, I find rather easy that is why there is a difficulty slider and we add mods to increase the challenge.

@WaterRabbit,

Perhaps I put more conditions on myself (and not even realizing it) than I thought I had.  I have been trying to stick to the roads if at all possible. I agree that there reaches a point where it it just watching your character's ass bump up and down over the terrain of Skyrim; but honestly, that danger of attack, both by animals and bandits, I see that as just another part of the challenge. I do use spawn increasers, but that rarely seems to have much effect since, as you say, often pursuers can be outrun.

Without the ability to access my map (armbinder and all that) I found it devilishly difficult to reach the cage the last time I tried this.  Somehow I ended up at Valtheim, where I did not outrun my attackers.  Do you know how many bandits are in Valtheim towers?  Like six or seven.  I also have a mod that increase the number of roving bandits and such, and was running from such a group when I ran into Valtheim...So nearly twenty minutes later my *very* well-used girl stumbled away, dripping and cold, trying to head to the cage, only to be attacked by giants for stumbling right into their camp and, well, you know the rest there.

Funny enough, the first time I did this I had no issues and made it all the way there no problem.  Odd, yeah?  It's honestly one of the things I like about this mod - it's not the same experience every time you run it.

I usually prioritize ditching the armbinder as in addition to preventing fighting and accessing the map, it also prevents jumping which makes avoiding creatures very difficult.

I tried a different route this evening to see if I could find a more Frostfall friendly way through the map.  I went west all the way into the reach and then cut north at Markarth and finally skirted around Volskygge.  But going this route you can steal a horse from the Legion camp near Riften.  Getting a horse makes travel faster and helps with cutting down exposure time in the snowy areas.  It is still a long trek and took me about 3 1/2 hours real time.

This is something I've been meaning to comment on.

For the time being, I'm just playing Skyrim. I've not touched the game since I disappeared from this forum, and before I do any work on a mod, I'd like to remind myself why I liked playing it in the first place.

After that, yeah, I'd like to see if I can pick up some pieces. I have a really big scene pretty much working that is hot as hell and which most of you are going to love. The only problem is that it leaves your character in a state and a place that you can't get out of without cheating. There's a way out of that of course, but that means I need to finish another scene (one with some damned tricky sexlab coding) and then another one after that.

I suppose that all boils down to "we'll see". I would really like some of that stuff to see light of day, though.

There is considerable scope for additional hardcore options, I agree. I even have some planned. Even so though, I'd probably want to keep some in hand. If I do come back to this, there are more races planned and I want to be able to introduce new things as we go, just to keep things interesting.

That said, I'll reiterate what I said earlier: Anything that gets you from point A to point B is all right by me. Just so long as it's fun :)

I totally understand that. I got burned out myself and took a couple months off. A wee request - since your plan is still a while away from being implemented (assuming it does get implemented, and again, no worries if you just don't feel like doing this anymore), could you unlock the locked tattoo? That way we can use the tat pack without having to go back to a save to get rid of it and if your other plans don't bear fruit this will still be a playable mod.

Thanks. :)

No pressure thou take your time...

Ya just gotta remember why you liked the game to begin with, then have a good time playing it again.

And eventually you might want to mod for it again.

Hehehe on the alpha testing stuff was always fun doing the cart scene... god you put a lot into that (and only a few ever got to see it).

if you have that part done you could upload it as a test with a warning to use it on a character that people dont mind losing to test it out

that way itll give people a dose of new qayl to get over there withdrawls ;)

The tats should be usable with slavetats in any case. The ones you can get at through the MCM interface should all be unlocked. The locking ones use the same graphics but have a separate json file. The tat pack is downloadable separately as well, so you don't need QAYL installed

Or that's how I remember it anyway. It's been a while and I'm not at home to check right now.

Thought about it. Although I'm not sure I want to field all the bug reports from folks who didn't read the warning and then got stuck when the scene didn't complete correctly. I'll think about it.

Good to see you back DocClox, take your time

Thanks! And thanks to everyone here for the support and understanding.

If your worried about people not reading the first post you could always put a large text box in at the current 'end' of the mod and if somebody ignored that well there's nothing you can do.

You might also put it at were the mod ends now because I still see reports asking "whats next?" now and again.

Just some suggestions but I feel they might help your inbox and sanity. :-/

If this point of view helps you any, this mod is one of a few mods that I frequently "install, play through, uninstall, go back to save before installing it", I have a few mods I work like that because I may want to play through them again. Last time I left it in I could not run another race again, I'd love to leave it in and deal with the tats and whatnot....... for some reason "fake racing" just doesn't have the same feeling of being forced to run the race, I always get side tracked and end up doing something else.

in construction set there was a room with a machine a big 1 and female runners it would be good though if you could redo the race rather than making new characters

There a way to let us bring up our Map to at least see paths to the target point?  Now don't get me wrong, I like the whole immersion of the run, but I do my best to never play skyrim sober so just running along and " getting used " gets boring after about the 4th or 5th time without being able to see on my map what paths are open before me.  I have a decent memory of stuff in skyrim, and I have a little mile/klm mod for my hud I made.  I have a tendency to just put my character on auto run for this part and go afk make food, come back move character from a wall / cliff / mountain  and go afk again.

It probably wouldn't help. It's too easy to see a new file and download it without looking at anything else. I've done it myself... :)

I'll see what I can do. It might take a while - I need to set up another development environment first. The old one got a little trashed when I started playing again.

I suppose it does have a way of keeping you focussed on the problem at hand :D

If the big machine is a dwemer steam centurion, then that's probably the warehouse. That's where I work out how to do stuff before adding them to the game proper. The centurion is from when QAYL used Death Alternative to start the quest. You wouldn't belive how hard it can be to get yourself killed sometimes...

I think one of the DD items blocks map viewing. I know I don't do anything to enforce it myself. If you can get rid of the armbinder you'll probably find you can access the map normally.

Nothing seems to happen after i deliver the racing flyer to the guy in solitude. The screen just goes black after he reveals he put drugs in the drinks, everything goes black but i can still hear the npc's around, but i can move or turn around or anything. Do you know what might be the problem here?

do you have a blindfold on ? if yes go into the deviouce device mod in mcm and adjust the visability to see

Sounds like the next quest isn't starting for some reason.

You could try setstage qayl 1 from the console. That should move you to the start line and hopefully thing will proceed as normal from there.

well running there wa interesting , got out of the cage alright with the exception of not knowing where i was and being bound is there any more to the mod after getting out the cage?
