hmmmm.... I have one animation description that seems to be ignoring the ACTIVE and PRIMARY tags. Well.... not ignoring, exactly.

It seems no matter what is in the tag, it uses my character's name.

When I first saw it, I went in and swapped the ACTIVE and PRIMARY tags. Didn't make a difference. Still used my character's name. I also added a "2" at the very beginning of each line just to be sure it was actually using the edited file and it is. So it's reading the description, but using my character's name for both ACTIVE and PRIMARY.

Tried a different animation and it worked correctly. The one animation I've seen it not working on is a unique animation.

So now I need to go in and run other unique animations and see if THOSE are working correctly. Not sure when I'll get to do this as I have stuff to do today besides sitting here on the computer, but if anyone wants to see if they can see any problems with the description tags in unique animations, .... maybe get a jump on this.

Specifically, I have this issue using MaleActor_zjBreastfeeding and the files within that folder.

@chajapa I have had (and am having) issues with Maleactor_zjBreastfeeding even with the old Apropos. Sometimes that anim displays unique messages, sometimes not. It also displays two tags: one with a var at the end. I wonder if your problem is with that anim rather than Apropos itself

There are 2 zjBreastfeeding animations. One is zjBreastfeeding and the other is zjBreastFeedingVar.

One is for lesbian interaction. One if for straight.

Works perfectly on my previous version of Apropos. I wonder if there's some tag switching being done in the patchups. Haven't really had time to look at this further. :)

** EDIT **

Nope... not being touched in patchup. I probably won't be able to get back to this until tomorrow or Monday. But will be interested in knowing if anyone else is having an issue with that animation.

so is var for straight? I had wondered about that. It gets confusing when you write your own messages. I have a file of tags that someone uploaded that identifies zjBreastfeeding as MFBreastfeeding, but that tag did not work for me.

MFBreastfeeding was the original name for the animation. It was changed in order to make maintenance easier for both animations.

You can actually open one of the NSAP source files and see the actual animation name and how it's tagged. I've been working outside today and doing some cleanup on my computer and.... I still have absolutely no idea why this animation is acting differently in the new Apropos from what it did in the OLD Apropos... :)

There seems to be a problem with newest update; Apropos Beta 2015 04 24 01

Ran old version with no issues, installed the newest and it will NOT open in MCM - MCM shows Apropos - but when you click on it nothing happens. Just a blank screen and you go back into MCM nothing else will open until you all the way out and back in.

I put in the old version all is good again.

1st try I just did a merge as a update, nothing.

2nd try, I uninstalled old and checked to make it was gone and then installed new. As I said MCM shows it but nothing happens. I gave the program about 10 minutes to load, thinking it might just be lazy. Still nothing.  Uninstalled

Put back in old version and everything is working as it should.

Any ideals would be grateful.

Thank you

:shy:  Just wanted to let you all is good, Thank you

You cannot upgrade from an older version of apropos to this newer version on the same save.  You can either

- start a brand new game on a new character with the new version installed  OR

- use a save cleaning tool after you uninstall the old version to get rid of the leftover scripts in your save, then install the new version on the clean save.

You can basically assume that any mod that uses scripts will leave data in your save file, so when they make major updates you have to either start a new character or try cleaning the old version.

The widget is nice, but is there no way to make the text have a darker transparent background? (like normal menus etc). It's impossible to read the white letters on white scenes (like snowy areas).

Also, if you're using the notification widget, there should be some way to disable the output to Debug.Notification(). it's kind of distracting having both appear.

This is with the BETA version...

OK, just continuing on this for a bit. Still not sure WHY, but I edited the description file so it only had one line in 1st person view.

Basically it was:

** EDIT ** STOP! I figured this out and explained in a later post. DISREGARD any "instructions" in here.. 2-May-2015

{Active} is Active and {Primary} is Primary.

My character's name is Arlyk. The result of that line is:

Arlyk is Active and Arlyk is Primary.

So... it's using my character's name as both Active and Primary. I have to do this now in 2nd person and 3rd person to see if it happens there as well. It didn't do this in the previous version of Apropos. So I'm wondering if there is some change to how those tags are filled. For the breastfeeding (straight) animation, the female is in position 0 and the male player character is in position 1.

I have not checked ALL animations, but I did check another unique animation and the other unique chose names correctly as far as I can tell.

So.... SOMETHING is different SOMEWHERE.

If I have some time this afternoon, I'll run through a bunch of animations (poor Eryniel!) and see if I can figure out some kind of pattern if there is one.

Did the save/remove/clean/replace thing and all seemed to work fine except no stage 1 messages so, started a new game but still the same issue

Have I missed something or are others seeing this? Stage 1 is ticked in the MCM.

Now I went back to a profile with the previous version of Apropos, and.... descriptions for breastfeeding not working again.

DAMMIT

So.... not working with the NEW version and stopped working with the OLD version. I'm starting to get pissed off.

Not at Apropos. I think it's in NSAP.

The breastfeeding animations not only have a Foreplay tag. They now also have this:

Base.SetContent(Foreplay)

Instead of:

Base.SetContent(Sexual)

So I think the stable version of Apropos ignores it because it's foreplay, and the NEW (BETA) version is.... not understanding who is who or I've not configured something correctly or... something.

Either way... breastfeeding descriptions are now broken for me in Apropos regardless of what version I use.

OK, I've messed around with several animations. The only ones that seem to give me a headache are the ones that have Base.SetContent(Foreplay)

I have half a mind to load NSAP into CK and edit that script, but..... then I'd have to do it every time a new version of NSAP comes out.

I know Gooser is taking a (well deserved) break, so... anyone else have any ideas?

** EDIT **

AND.... I feel the need to apologize for my rantings. :)

I am clearly and knowingly using something that's under development with the COMPLETE understanding that it may not be ready for prime time.

So I think I'll go outside and throw a ball for the dogs and wait for the wife to get home and take her shopping and out for dinner someplace. I'm too easily frustrated by this stuff and I should know better.

** EDIT ** STOP! I figured this out and explained in a later post. DISREGARD any "instructions" in here.. 2-May-2015

AND.... I have a fix for the breastfeeding animations. Well... maybe more of a workaround until (or if) a better solution is found.

You have to edit your AnimationPatchUps.txt file as follows:

Add this:

"zjBreastFeedingVar":
{
"RemoveTags": ["Foreplay"],
"AddTags": ["Boobjob"]
},

WATCH WHERE YOU ADD IT! Notice the comma as the last character. Easiest to add this as the FIRST entry or second-last, but NOT LAST, unless you know what the comma is for and how to compensate for it.

As long as the "Foreplay" tag was present, Apropos did not appear to populate the ACTIVE and PRIMARY tags correctly. So this removes the Foreplay tag.

When I did that, I got no descriptions for this animation at all. There has to be SOME KIND of tag in there for what kind of sex it is. So I added the tag "Boobjob".

TA-DA!  I got description for the animation AND the ACTIVE and PRIMARY tags populate correctly.

So, this works for me. Obviously you need to consider what implications it may have on YOUR play style as you're removing the Foreplay tag. Personally.... my own feeling is, that if it ends in orgasm, it's no longer foreplay, but that's my personal opinion. I was overridden in that discussion regarding NSAP. With Apropos, I can fix it myself. No harm. No foul.

Oh, I also have zjBreastfeedingVar as a unique animation. Otherwise you're going to get the default boobjob description I think. So that would be a pretty important piece of information to have. :)

I'd ask some question if any user have time:

1) I saw the new jcontainers have been released so i updated that also... but it ask me to overwrite some "more nasty critter" mod's stuff.

Should i do it? (for now i didn t)

2) cleaned save, installed apropos and did few tests no eveident problems for now.

Should i run the apropos script in the MCM? the one that says to be run when everything is setlled.. Or is it only to use in case of problems?

3) wich mode has more F/F descriptions? 1st person 2nd or 3rd?

Ty a lot.

#1

I usually install a new JContainers when it is available, but I use Mod Organizer, so I can just install, enable, and if something breaks I can just deactivate and it goes back to the one I had before.

#2

Yes, run the animation patchups after you've been in game for a couple of minutes. This will adjust some tags for Apropos so they make sense.

#3

I do not think F/F descriptions are completely working yet. There is some use for it, but you may have to add or edit text files to see it working.

I have one F/F animation that I have tried. It's a unique animation that is properly recognized by Apropos. When I play that animation it does not appear to use the _Stagex files yet. It only accesses one file FemaleActor_SomeAnimationName.txt

There's a bug with saving settings. The code correctly saves the settings, but then does a 'check' to ensure it was saved.

In AproposConfig.psc

String path = GenerateSettingsExportPath()
JValue.writeToFile(exportMapID, path)
JValue.release(exportMapId)

; try to immediately read it back to verify
Int check = LoadJsonFile(path)

Now as you see, you pass the *full* path you generated to LoadJsonFIle(), but then in the function LoadJsonFile()  (in ApropsUtil.psc):

Int Function LoadJsonFile(String fileName) Global
    LogToAll("Loading "+ fileName + " ... ")

    String fullPath = GenerateFullPath(fileName)
    If(!CheckFileExists(fullPath))

you call GenerateFullPath() on the already full path, which appends garbage to it, so it fails on the corrupted path name. It appears you're doing that to satisfy the usage in AproposAnimationPatchups.psc, but it would probably just be easier to pre-append the DB pathname to that one usage case.

One more problem. I tried to loclize some files in db directory. Converting them to UTF8 without BOM makes it OK with strings parsing but cyrillic text appear on screen as unreadable symbols. The only thing I can imagine there is some font used in mod other than game's system font. Sure I can be wrong. Is there a way to fix it somehow?

Gooser!

Are the PatchUps stored someplace permanently after you run the Patchups thing in MCM?

If yes, is there a way to clear them and re-read that patchups file? (To kinda start over?)

** EDIT **

Ok, since nobody's posted yet I'll just add to my own...

Regarding the Patchups file. If I put:

"RemoveTags": ["Foreplay, Kissing"],
"AddTags": ["Vaginal, Sex"]

It will ADD both of the requested tags, but it only REMOVES the first one listed in RemoveTags.

In order to remove Foreplay, LeadIn, and Kissing from an animation, I had to put them in as single tags under RemoveTags, and then run PatchUps, then exit game, edit the file, go back into the save, run PatchUps again, etc. Until all 3 were removed.

ALSO....

Regarding UniqueAnimations.... I have one that is in the unique animations text file that SAYS it's registering as unique, but when it plays, it's not showing as unique. You know like where it says: So-and-so is registered as unique animation...

And then it doesn't use the files I've set up for it.

NOW.... it WAS working... and it stopped. As I was trying to get the tag thing figured out. It DID read the unique animation description files a couple times. I have no idea if one can affect the other, but could you have a look at those 2 functions and tell me what I may have broken? :)

*** EDIT 2 ***

OK, turned on debug trace. Attaching log.

Beginning of the log is BEFORE I ran patchup to remove the "Foreplay" tag from leitoKissing animation.

The animation is clearly being picked up as a unique animation. It doesn't run through the description correctly as it makes my player character both ACTIVE and PRIMARY (weirdness), but I'm assuming that's because of the Foreplay tag somehow.

Then you can see I ran patchup and it removed the Foreplay tag from leitoKissing.

Ran the animation again and..... not only is it not showing as unique, but there doesn't seem to be the detailed information about the animation as there was BEFORE I ran Patchup.

I should mention that I've added at least 6 other animations.... maybe 8.... and I've changed tags on 2 others (remove Foreplay and add Boobjob to the breastfeeding animations to get them to use descriptions) and all of those others work fine. It's just this one animation. Too few stages? (Not even sure that's factored in anywhere) It only has 2 stages plus an orgasm.

Anyways..... here's something for you to look at when you get back...
