Bullfye Posted March 15 Posted March 15 (edited) 1 hour ago, NymphoElf said: @Bullfye Forgive me if I came across harshly. I wasn't trying to directly insult you. However, you did come across as complaining and it seemed to me that you were suggesting that starting a new game wasn't really necessary - or that you thought it shouldn't be necessary. There are many mod users out there with this attitude because they don't understand how Skyrim actually works, nor do they have any experience with making mods, and you seemed to be one of these people with how you expressed yourself. Forgive me if this was an incorrect analysis. Also, I frequently deal with unsavory people that complain or otherwise do not take the time to carefully look over what I have provided in order to ensure they are doing things correctly. This creates a lot of frustration and strains my patience, and recently I had someone blatantly steal my work without asking and threw my project into a programming AI to spit out something I am currently working on developing myself - so I was already in a poor state of mind. It's best to not read too deeply into my words. I try to be as clear and concise as possible. I do not think you're a bad person or have bad feelings towards you in any way. I was just being blunt with how I saw the situation. I do highly recommend updating because you are missing a LOT of quality of life features and bug fixes if you are still using a version that old. However, starting a new game is simply not negotiable in order for you to do that. It's almost an entirely new mod between 1.x and 3.x. Again, I understand that starting a new game can feel like a step backwards, but I promise you will enjoy the game more with an updated version. I do understand all of that ... But was surprised with your reply cause couldn't understand why you were so upset with my question , But forget it , I do know that people are always complaining but that was not my case ... Stealing others work is on the table this days , people are lazy to do themselves and I know it is very irritating to see others steal your work ... You've done right by closing the source code of your work period , we users do not need it anyway ! All is good ... As for updating I will follow the procedure if its the case or I find weird things with the new update ... Thanks . Edited March 15 by Bullfye

I've started new games sometimes 2-3 times in a single week. Setting up my current FO4 game, I started a new game 4 times in one weekend to make sure that everything ran smoothly and worked the way it was supposed to. 5hrs or 500hrs makes no difference whatsoever. It's just a game. Saying that you can't update because it means you have to start a new game is a cop out. it's not that you can't. it's that you don't want to. starting a new game is always an option Please stop the rhetoric .. Thank you and mind your own business ! 1
VeraDra Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Quote DUE TO PEOPLE NOT ASKING ME TO USE MY WORK MY PROJECTS ARE NOW CLOSED SOURCE Well that's exceptionally disappointing. (FWIW decompilers for papyrus exist and from what I can find, they give a usable enough output. Removal of the source code for the DLL is a bit more disappointing - it's now another DLL I have to trust isn't being messed with)

If you're messing with the source code purely as a user, then you're only making my job of debugging potential problems impossible. Also, I know decompilers exist, but if you know how to use a decompiler then odds are you're smart enough to not shovel out AI slop while using my code as the basis of said AI slop. I would also appreciate you not pointing it out and possibly giving more people ideas. If people keep doing this, then I'm going to leave the scene altogether like many others have already. I honestly blame AI more than I blame the person in question, because AI made them think they could make something when they have no understanding about it in the first place. If AI slop bots didn't exist, this (probably) wouldn't have happened. I'm not going to deal with people making AI slop-copies of my work and then complain to me about it when the slop-copy doesn't work very well. Edited March 16 by NymphoElf 2
IBAGadget Posted March 16 Posted March 16 I'm curious as to what the ripoff mod is, so that I can avoid it and not wind up giving the "author" any accidental traffic.

It's already down. Don't worry about it. But for the time being, any variation of my mods that are not posted by me are rip offs. ie: AND NG, SLSFR NG, or anything similar. I'm not going to give anyone permission to make such things until/unless I leave the modding scene for good. 1

However, I think the best thing you can do for yourself (and also for the countless of people enjoying your mods, myself included) is to take these shitty copies and complaints less seriously and don't get overly offended by them. I am sure many of us would be really sad to see such a modding talent leaving for good. I very well know what is it like to be a mod author (not here though, my place was at an old FPS game 10-15 years ago). At first I was going for fame and recognition. Later though, especially after being there for a long time and seeing the community slowly shrinking / losing people, I found that my mindset was changing. I did not care about fame and copycats at all anymore, I was deliberately going for sharing modding source whenever possible. I realized that the more openly I do that, the more I help others to learn, and keeping alive the community through new content and new people trying their luck at modding.

This isn't about fame, it's about respect. Despite what some people may tell you, I'm not an unreasonable person. If they had simply asked, this would have ended very differently. I couldn't care less about recognition. Just don't use my stuff without asking. 1

This is called 'courtesy' something that is sorely lacking in today's day and age unfortunately. We have entered into the 'age of entitlement', where people seem to think they can do/use whatever they feel like and everyone else should just accept it. If you don't, then you are: Racist Bigoted Hateful Fascist (insert)phobic Persecuting them or some combination of all of the above I've changed some of my own mod designs (just simple followers, but still) because I couldn't get permission to use some of the assets I originally wanted to in their features. It is what it is. I changed their looks to only use assets that had open permissions or assets that I was given permission to use (with credit given) At some point I need to actually get back into playing Skyrim and get back to working on my 5th follower design 1

I tend to make changes to the Papyrus code of some mods for personal use even though I'm not a mod author myself. As much as I would like every mod to be as customizable as possible, some things will always end up getting hardcoded. Of course, if I then run into any problems, reporting them to the author before debugging them on my own would be silly. Even without making any changes, the ability to get some insight into how a mod works by reading the code or do some surface level script debugging before reporting the problem to the author is very welcome. That being said, I get where you're coming from, it's a shame how this whole situation turned out. I do realize I'm in the minority here, and the lack of source code shouldn't affect most of the mod users. 2

There are some who are perfectly aware that they use someone else's work without permission. There are also those who do not even think about asking because they simply may not even realize they should ask as part of common courtesy, so they very likely did not even intend to offend you with their behavior. My point was that there is no use to be overly bitter about other people's stupidity since you can't help that in any way. The way you react to situations however is up to you. If people start copying your work, for me that would mean you are very good at what you are doing, and other would-like-to-be modders see the value in your work. Even if this is a shitty way of showing respect, it still a form of respect and shows that your work here means a lot to many people.

Code injection (skse) opens up a vector to the OS and every launcher we use. You gain nothing but lost trust by closing source. Open source with permissive licenses costs you nothing unless you like wasting time with mod drama. You have a nice, tight mod and the only suggestion I would offer is to add a stop start function so we don't have to deactivate/reactivate the plugin for every new character just to use SLSF Comments. 1

This is the weakest argument I've heard. Plus the mod is 99% papyrus still, so that makes the point even weaker. Right now the only thing that's SKSE is logging. If you don't trust me to not make malware then idk how I'm supposed to overcome that. Just because I have an open source repository doesn't mean you're getting that specific build when you download my mod. I could just fake it. Therefore "Open Source" doesn't protect you any more than not knowing in the first place. Edited March 20 by NymphoElf 2

kamithemoon Posted March 29 Posted March 29 Oh frick, I spent all that time making a voice pack for the comments mod, I haven't actually verified if this mod works properly in VR. I didn't realize its an SKSE mod. Has anyone in VR confirmed that the .dll works for them? dll mods have to be compiled specifically for VR. Even NG versions are not enough in some cases, where an NG won't fail to load, but it can potentially fail to perform it's functions properly.

Jordan_098 Posted March 30 Posted March 30 Any chance I can get the 3.4.0 version updating to 3.4.1, caused safe corruption
