RitualClarity Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Cannot get my screenshot to show up. I know this is the wrong place to ask, but how to?...PLEASE?! Open "more reply options" Choose fles Select the files.. I use Jpeg but I believe others work as well After it has finished uploading, select "add to post" text in blue. It should work. If you still have problems or others like this (spoilers and such) create or find another post with similar situations and get help there.
BCk9 Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Warg! THX 'ritualclarity'. Box my ears some more for asking that here, I deserve it. I'm TRULY SORRY. [i did try to find info on it but I was getting so frustrated that... well...] OK, let's see now... HA! My error messages that I get ...???...
niveuseverto Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Will check in day or two. Please attach crash dumps, load order and InstallLog to post
nyaalich Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Warg! THX 'ritualclarity'. Box my ears some more for asking that here, I deserve it. I'm TRULY SORRY. No boxing of the ears. Just scritchies. Unless you have a massive personality overhaul and turn into some of the people that make me go IRL and start talking about rocket launchers. Completely unrelated side note: When getting pissed off at people in traffic, pretending that I have a rocket launcher and explode their car makes me giggle and gets rid of all of the FURIOUS ANGER. DON'T upload bmps (goes for you too, sir). They're big and people have to actually download them. People will not download them (usually), and you will get bitched at. I post shit to imgur and then link to it with the picture icon. Don't know/doubt that it saves any space on the forum, but then, I didn't realize that uploading a jpg here displayed it.

[i did try to find info on it but I was getting so frustrated that... well...] OK, let's see now...FOMM 14.10.8 Error Messages.jpg HA! My error messages that I get ...???... No ear boxing needed.. . Just didn't want to derail Pride's thread with basic forum tech support. Quick answers sure. No problem. I understand the frustration, we all have had such occurrences. Perfect posting of your error in my opinion. Quick and easy to see and look at without having to search or open new screens. Those that don't want to have something take up the entire screen on the thread they are looking at can just right click and open as new tab. Then they can view it in its full splendor and later close that tab. As for that error. I have never seen it in my life. I have absolutely no clue on what would even cause that. There are ways to clean up a FOMM install and FNV install if you feel it has reached that point. You can check the link in my sig "FOMM fixing Messed UP install".
prideslayer Posted June 2, 2014 Author Posted June 2, 2014 Derail it all you want. It's not like the people that should be reading all the posts read any of them, even the first one.
prideslayer Posted June 2, 2014 Author Posted June 2, 2014 Those errors happen when one of two things happen. 1. The files or directory are read only or have bad permissions -- like you ran FOMM as administrator once before. If you did, you need to fix the permissions. Do NOT run FOMM as administrator. Ever. For any reason. 2. The error is correct. You have the file open in some other program that has it locked so FOMM can't manage it. Close and try again.
jaam Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 It can also happen when one part of the script tries to continue before Windows release the "backup file" from the previous step.
prideslayer Posted June 2, 2014 Author Posted June 2, 2014 Haven't actually seen that one myself -- I think it only occurs when you try to 'batch' activate/deactivate a bunch of mods at once, doesn't it? That functionality has never worked properly in my experience. One at a time is the way to go.
t3589 Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 DON'T upload bmps (goes for you too, sir). They're big and people have to actually download them. Don't know/doubt that it saves any space on the forum, but then, I didn't realize that uploading a jpg here displayed it. Guilty. Those errors happen when one of two things happen. 1. The files or directory are read only or have bad permissions -- like you ran FOMM as administrator once before. If you did, you need to fix the permissions. Do NOT run FOMM as administrator. Ever. For any reason. Guilty. I just began using this again during the recent debacle, hoping it would make the pain go away. It works quite nicely for me so far. Love the color coding which never worked in the old one. Saves me some dragging stuff around too (it remembers stuffs). The last time I tried it I had to uninstall the other. This time I just dropped it in a folder and away she goes. Well done. I find it gives more errors, but they're meaningful errors. It's saved me a couple times shooting myself in the foot already. Well done and thank you.
prideslayer Posted June 2, 2014 Author Posted June 2, 2014 No problem. Coloring never worked in "the old one" because it didn't have it. It's something I saw in OBMM that I thought would be good to have in FOMM. The new errors should all be sane and are designed exactly to save toes. If you *really* want to launch the game with a missing required master -- you can do it manually.
RitualClarity Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 Derail it all you want. It's not like the people that should be reading all the posts read any of them, even the first one. Bad habit to get people into on threads. We all do it.. Sometimes quite often but still a bad habit Also I keep an eye out when I do suggest this and if a new thread is started I follow them over to it and "do my thang" However long it takes post wise. @BCK9 Have you tried restarting the computer then using FOMM. If there is something hanging it up that should release it. One of the first tricks I use when having problems because I am lazy and would rather not have to think most of the times
jaam Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 Haven't actually seen that one myself -- I think it only occurs when you try to 'batch' activate/deactivate a bunch of mods at once, doesn't it? That functionality has never worked properly in my experience. One at a time is the way to go. I think it gets worse, or more likely when the temp work folder gets filled up. But I encountered it while uninstalling very big mods by themselves. When uninstalling multiple mods, adding a one second delay after the uninstall should "solve" it.
BCk9 Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 Grufff! GUILTY of running FOMM as Administrator GUILTY of doing 'batch group or deactivate all' mod uninstalls. [not all the time, but my errors did only occur when I did so, NOT with single mod uninstalls] I regret to inform you I cannot supply my Install Log info, I seem to have deleted it. prideslayer Posted June 3, 2014 Author Posted June 3, 2014 You deleted the installlog.xml file?? FOMM will not function without it. It will recreate it and have no idea what mods you have installed or don't. When is this error occuring, and what are you trying to do? And why did you include a load order, it's generally not relevant to fomm crashes.
BCk9 Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 GRRoowwllll! Additional misc, info --- Not having any hangups, lockouts, freezes or anything like that. Just those error messages during uninstalls as regards posts #'s - 514, 520, 527, 539. No known FOMM install issues. FOMM had 1 crash and shutdown during deactivation process when uninstalling [i think maybe] 'Adv. Recon Thermal Nightvision'. No problems reactivating and carrying on. thx for the restart tip 'ritualclarity' THX to ALL
BCk9 Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 You deleted the installlog.xml file?? FOMM will not function without it. It will recreate it and have no idea what mods you have installed or don't. When is this error occuring, and what are you trying to do? And why did you include a load order, it's generally not relevant to fomm crashes. Install Log xml - I uninstalled/deleted my entire Steam FO3-goty folder, after uninstalling all mods thru FOMM, to do a completely fresh install of all elements. Re-installed from my "FO3 Game Directory" backup files I always create. Ergo; Deleted Log Will check in day or two. Please attach crash dumps, load order and InstallLog to post 'niveuseverto' asked for the load order Didn't think to keep copies of my Install Logs. SORRY! Will remember to do so. THX
prideslayer Posted June 4, 2014 Author Posted June 4, 2014 That file is not a "log", it's FOMMs record of everything it's managing. If you're using FOMM with actively installed mods, and that file is missing, you've screwed up.
RitualClarity Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 That would also cause problems when you try to uninstall the mods if I understand the process properly. I use what you did and a little more to "clean" FOMM when I don't need the info and want to return it to a pristine state for new mods. I probably would look at the link in my sig which tells you how to fix a messed up install. Return the game folder to a clean state by removing everything you have (mod wise.) that is delete the various loose files and any BSA esm, esps etc that came with any mods you installed. Verify cache and finally uninstall FOMM and the reinstall it. Get the freshest copy of Prides FOMM in the process. Sorry to tell you but I believe this is the quickest way to get back to where you need to be. In the future don't go messing under the covers of FOMM unless 1) you are experimenting and don't care if you harm your FOMM install and conversely your FNV or FO3 game. or 2) something has went wrong and you need to fix it and in this case you are following instructions on how to repair your FOMM. Don't feel bad I have done probably every bad thing you can possibly do with FOMM and broke my game every possible way (at least I though I have before your post )
BCk9 Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 Haruff! I posted my question after I had already uninstalled everything, which in retrospect even I realize was a stupid thing to do. [uninstalling before asking that is]. Should the errors occur again, I'll be more on top of it. No current/active FO3 game [modded or otherwise] since the crash is on the go as I reread everything for FO3 and make sure I have updated various files, mods, and instructions]. Still learning...and doing dumb things upon occasion. Hope I'm not frustrating you to much 'prideslayer'. I know just from 'stalking' your posts, you do a lot/help a lot/got a lot going on... Special THX for all the hard work and effort you do for us all... [appease the gods, appease the gods, appease the gods, rinse/repeat] btw - This is the only problem I've had with this build of FOMM. I've run into other frequent issues with the older v 13.?? series, and nearly nothing with your custom build.
prideslayer Posted June 4, 2014 Author Posted June 4, 2014 Well I guess I have to add a 3rd rule. The unspoken rule. Do not change anything in the directory FOMM uses for mods. Fuck don't even open it to look inside. CAN'T HAZ.
BCk9 Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 Gruuhf! I did not/do not mess with the FOMM or it's directory/folders, especially during an active game. The reason I don't have the install xml is due to the fact I deleted the entire games folder AFTER the crash/uninstall and BEFORE I posted, thereby rendering myself [doofus I am sometimes] incapable of supplying the info as requested. I was NOT running a game without it. Will check it out 'ritualclarity', make sure my FOMM is good... THX
RitualClarity Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 It happens. Something will happen again and you will mess up again. Nothing to worry about. Most of us here have ran into various issues that later we facepalm and how dumb an act was. It is part of the learning process. The key here is you are trying to understand and grow. That is clear and for the most part myself and others here have little to no problem helping those that are willing to help themselves. Well I guess I have to add a 3rd rule. The unspoken rule.Do not change anything in the directory FOMM uses for mods. Fuck don't even open it to look inside. CAN'T HAZ. OPPs..My bad.. already looked... Not only looked but took it apart and put it back together and all sorts of shitz... Amazing how much trouble some of those files can be if you mess with them...
nyaalich Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 Well I guess I have to add a 3rd rule. The unspoken rule. Do not change anything in the directory FOMM uses for mods. Fuck don't even open it to look inside. CAN'T HAZ. 1) Don't run it as admin. 2) ? 3) Don't fuck with its mod folder.
prideslayer Posted June 4, 2014 Author Posted June 4, 2014 2. Believe the error messages it throws up. It doesn't lie.
