RitualClarity Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 If they somehow got left behind, yeah, but unless FOMM crashes during install (as it did in this case), it should be deleting them when it's done. Cool Thought so. I only brought that up because some might have a ton of crap in their temp folder and if their drive is small or very full that can cause all sorts of trouble. Wasn't a statement that FOMM was doing something wrong or leaving files. I haven't seen any when I have checked. (what very few times I have checked )
Seele13 Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 @niveuseverto That means if you use some program like CCleaner that removes temp files and such space used in those files would be freed up (for those with really full drives). If they somehow got left behind, yeah, but unless FOMM crashes during install (as it did in this case), it should be deleting them when it's done. Seele, you really should just change your temporary dir to the other driver somewhere. Right click "my computer", properties, (In win7, click 'change settings' now), click the 'advanced' tab, then the "environment variable" button. Look for TEMP and TMP in both lists and change all four of them to point to somewhere with more space. FOMM isn't the only thing likely to run out of space for temp files on a 60G drive. Got rid of temp files, then did what you suggested. Everything works fine now. FOMM seems to correctly delete temp files now. Thanks for the help everyone!
prideslayer Posted May 16, 2014 Author Posted May 16, 2014 No problem. You should probably change those variables to point to a new temp directory on your drive that has more space. Other programs and stuff use that are as well, so even if niv updates FOMM to let you pick your own directory, it won't fix the core issue.
zippy57 Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 Really minor thing: If FNV's registry entry is missing the box for entering the path is mis-labeled "Fallout 3 Game Directory".
prideslayer Posted May 17, 2014 Author Posted May 17, 2014 hah WTF. I wasn't even aware it made/used any registry entries. Not sure why it does, we'll have to go through and just get rid of them. The config file / properties file should be able to cover everything. Will let niv chime in before doing anything, neck deep in sexout UDFs right now anyway.
zippy57 Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 What's missing there is the registry entries FNV itself creates which I think FOMM checks to determine the installation path. I recently had to do a system wipe and since I haven't run the FNV launcher yet the entries don't exist. The only issue is the misleading string at the bottom.
RitualClarity Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 If this is the old system that is still there. .. did you run FNV at least once. I only got that warning when it was never ran. Same with comments about .ini files. When that happened I just choose auto-detect and let it go. A few seconds or so later I check the results and move to the next stage of installation.
prideslayer Posted May 17, 2014 Author Posted May 17, 2014 Oh..... yeah that makes more sense. I'll think about it, maybe something can be done, though other than throwing up an error and exiting, I'm not sure what.
zippy57 Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 An error and exit seems a bit of an overreaction to a bit of text that needs changed.
prideslayer Posted May 17, 2014 Author Posted May 17, 2014 Unless I'm misunderstanding, it's not just that text needs changed. If you launched FOMM and selected FONV, and the FONV registry keys don't exist, then it can't actually (un)install mods, launch the game, etc. It uses those registry keys to find the data directory, the exe, and so on. Maybe I'm not "getting it".
zippy57 Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 It works as intended already. You can either find the path and continue normally or click Cancel and the program closes itself. All I had to do was enter the path and FOMM works fine. The only problem is that the box reads "Fallout 3 Game Directory" instead of "Fallout New Vegas Game Directory".
prideslayer Posted May 17, 2014 Author Posted May 17, 2014 OH.. *facepalm*. Yeah. that's an easy fix.
RitualClarity Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 Ha, Ha,.. Guess both you and me need glasses... huh pride? I looked and looked and looked and still didn't see it until just now.
BCk9 Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Wurf! Heya peoples! To 'prideslayer' & 'niveuseverto' [ collaboration, yes? Did I miss someone/ My apologies ] Great work! Love this new custom build. Been able to install huge files w/o a problem [ ie. - Lings, NMCs, Vurts, etc. with no troubles, crashes, freezes, etc. ] unlike earlier 13.??.?? versions. Loving it, AWESOME! The load order/ missing master color notification is particularly sweet. No troubles installing FOMM either. [ Win7 Pro 64bit, 256 GB SSD for OS & other apps, my games installed outside of program files to their own Steam folder on a 2 TB HDD ] But...I have a couple of issues when deactivating/uninstalling mods after nerfing my games up via conflicts [ Still trying to learn the FNVEdit/FO3Edit programs ] Whimper, Whine, Sigh...Getting better tho. Doesn't matter which game, seems to apply to both FO3 and my last modded NV game. All the mods install correctly. [ Currently have a basic 'vanilla' TTW game on the go, just NV/FO3 and the required patches, running fine] Had a modded FO3 game working earlier today, fragged something and when I started to deactivate, well... [ I'm an idiot, failed to get screenies for you, sorry ] Here's what little I remember of the error messages I'm seeing, something about... 'Chin-doh transaction' [ I think I spelled it right], failed rollback, missing/cannot find/not in directory, or/and 'Cannot access Install info xml/Install xml', process is being used by another program.' So far it hasn't even been the same mods causing this to happen and nothing large, usually just an ESM or ESP with nothing extra [ like textures/meshes/etc ] and variable in nature [ a weapon add-on, jewelry, a building] so I have to manually uninstall or delete said mods from the game folder. Not a crisis to me, however... Your Thoughts???...
nyaalich Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 My thought is that you are the nicest werewolf ever. Perhaps that is because it is the new moon, and perhaps I should be watching my back in 2 weeks.
prideslayer Posted May 28, 2014 Author Posted May 28, 2014 'Chin-doh transaction' [ I think I spelled it right], failed rollback, missing/cannot find/not in directory, or/and 'Cannot access Install info xml/Install xml', process is being used by another program.' Were you running FOMM and NMM (or a different FOMM) at the same time?
jaam Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 That's the issue I had. Check my merge request #1 from ten days ago
prideslayer Posted May 28, 2014 Author Posted May 28, 2014 I have two from you.. I thought you sent two and canceled one, and I accepted the other, but these two look completely different. Don't think I got notified that they were there. I'll look them over more closely but from your comments, #1 probably has a 'better' way to fix, and #2 I'll wait on if it's untested as you say.
prideslayer Posted May 28, 2014 Author Posted May 28, 2014 Why are they in the installLogRevert branch, anyway? They should be in master (or a new branch named after the feature/bugfix).
BCk9 Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Raarr-roo-roo!! [laughter] 'nyaalich' - You are correct, my dear lady. 'Flies to honey, wasps to beer' and all that, more victims that way, nobody deliberately hunting me. btw - You've helped me out, answered some queries I've had, here, there, and elsewhere, THX. 'prideslayer' - NO. I don't use NMM. Never have. Seen to many posts about too many issues/ongoing problems from the very start of my modding attempts. - NO. I only have ONE version of FOMM installed/in use at this time [ v. 14.10.8 ] However, a couple of months ago I was using the 13.21 version from the Nexus [ 'til I saw the custom build ] and foolishly did a drag/drop over it with the 14.02 version [ might have been 14.06 ], then activated it. Seemed to work, but had some crashes and files were going to the wrong places when I checked. Did a TOTAL uninstall and delete, a clean reinstall of v. 14.02 [.06?], re-fomod'ed and installed all no problems [ wanted to make sure my fomods were not corrupted] and carried on. Did not notice any issues at the time, but I only uninstalled a couple of mods I was having conflicts with [ no issues during that ]. Saw the recent v. 14.10.8 about 3 weeks ago, downloaded it [ but of course! ], uninstalled v. 14.02 [.06?], KEPT my FOMM mods folders/cache/fomods and installed the v. 14.10.8. Everything was there and seemed to be in order, carried on. The 'crash' I had yesterday in my FO3 game was directly related to 'rylasasin's' "More Captives" mod for the "Wasteland Player" mod, using the 'Animated Prostitution cross-over [ as I reveal my true 'nature of the beast' to you all, pervy scum that I am ]. Was working fine until...the very FIRST time I tried to abuse ANY captives, [ in the 'Super-Duper Mart' ]. My computer did a TOTAL crash to the 'black screen of death', shut down the whole system [ totally off ], before it auto-rebooted to the 'activate Windows in Safe mode' page at start-up. Checked everything out for my system, all seems well, but my FO3 game was 'fragged'. Actually had to uninstall and reinstall my FO3 game and must start from scratch. It was during the uninstalls, to start the redo of all, that I saw the error messages as stated in my OP. Therefore...my question -[ TOTALLY unrelated side-notes ]- I'm not that familiar with forum use; - How do I use the "Quote" feature, like 'prideslayers' references to my error messages, so I don't have to re-type something? [ I suck, "hunt and peck turtle typer here" ] - How do I use the "Star rating function", so I can put in my "nickels" worth? [ We don't have pennies anymore in Canuckland, so "2-cents" isn't going to cut it ]. - Should I have posted these 2 above questions elsewhere? THX awfully
jaam Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Why are they in the installLogRevert branch, anyway? They should be in master (or a new branch named after the feature/bugfix). Heu! No idea, I don't even remember that branch. But then, Git and me are definitely not friends. I suppose I selected the wrong branch,
nyaalich Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 There are Quote and Multiquote buttons at the bottom right corner of every post. That grabs the text from a previous post. Multiquote allows you to grab several posts and then takes you to the post editor on a different page. The other helpful thing that you may not know about is spoiler tags. That's the white speech bubble with the exclamation point in it. Hides part of your post so that people have to click on a button to view it instead of having to scroll down 3+ pages. You'll often see requests for people to post their load order under a spoiler tag when trying to troubleshoot. I think you're referring to the stars on the download page for mods? As far as I know, you can just click on however many stars you feel like giving it. Unless you're talking about my mods, in which case, the only way the feature works is to give it five stars.
BCk9 Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Haarrr-Raar-Rarr! 'nyaalich'; I'm such a dweeb! Looking at the 'quote buttons' as I type this. Egad and Doh! [smack me around will you?] EMBARASSING!! THX for the clue in for the spoiler button. Go figure it's a simple point and click for mod ratings. Sorry I have not tried your mods yet, although 'Character Resize' will be used once I get TTW and Sexout up and running together. Like your idea there for the visuals. 'prideslayer', 'jaam' Scanned thru the entire forum here, don't see my error messages posted anywhere in it. Might have missed it, my eyes are getting fuzzy from so much reading [ either that or I have to downgrade my resolutions to make my fonts bigger]. Then again, I did just have to get bi-focals last year. That age thing it seems. Whine! [ Just because us were-K9s are immortal don't mean we don't age physically! Harr-rarr ]. Again, THX
jaam Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Don't worry, I only reported it in the development site, and not completely.
BCk9 Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Wuurf! Hey peoples. Still got those error messages showing up when I uninstall/deactivate a couple of mods in my FO3 game. [refer to post #514 in this forum] Can't remember if they are the same mods as last time as the last, but just in case it helps the said mods [3] THIS time are; Advanced Recon Thermal Nightvision Bittercup [As Alice] Companion Trenton Towers I think last time it was "JaySus' Submissive Piercings", and "PintoCats Tenpenny Tower Suite" and "CoolLasersHD", and a couple of others... NOT the same mods. Made sure they were NOT New Vegas or TTW conversions/mods before posting again Got some screenshots and compiled all 3 onto one page; GAH!!! I can't figure out what to do in the forums. I don't know what I'm doing/not doing/missed. Cannot get my screenshot to show up. I know this is the wrong place to ask, but how to?...PLEASE?! It keeps saying I can't use this or that format in a cut/paste method and somethings up with my Attach File attempts.
