What do you play now?

I've taken to playing Styx again and right now I've been on Styx: Shards of Darkness after finishing the first game again, for a few days, and I'm very much wishing for a Styx 3.

And Dishonored III, by the same stealth game occasion, especially a Dishonored III.

Currently playing WH40K Rogue Trader. I like Owlcat's games but this one is in space which I don't like; has firearms which I don't like in cRPGs; and is turn-based which I don't like. Somehow I'm really enjoying it so far (well into Chapter 1) ?. No idea about the WH universe and Owlcat have come up with a system which is different than their previous games so a bit of a learning curve to deal with.

Apart from the graphics (not really that sort of game) and the voice acting (virtually non-existent) this game is streets ahead of BG3 as a game made by grown-ups, for grown-ups.

I was hoping that the game might teach Americans how to spell 'rogue' but it's not looking good  - I saw a 'rouge' trader yesterday and another today. 'Rouge Trader' sounds like a trendy cosmetics shop.

I have it but I've been waiting a while for the initial bug fixes to kick it. I haven't watched videos so as not to tarnish my fresh eyes when playing. I did hear that the level of lore immersion is amazing and makes the game more enjoyable as a RPG even to those mildly knowing of the lore and those who just know nothing of it.

(Just a heads up if you haven't really looked into the WH universe: it's rather over the top so expect a lot of extremes. Unless they went another route than of course.)

I'm confident it'll be great, Owlcats make lovely games and I can't wait to start myself a psyker. Although I'm curious, what would you consider to be enjoyable considering some major aspects of the game don't fit with your likes?

Sounds more fancy when you sprinkle some French in apparently, although "rouge" means red. Space commies?

I have a theory that it's due to the "fact" that French, to Americans, or at least to most I know, is something of an exotic tongue, quite like most things not US English. Which is valid for other tongues, too.

So snippets may stick to their tongue more, unknowingly, just by having thought about it at some recent time, because most don't have language proficiency or don't train their memory of the vocabulary so they come to assume what's on the tip of their tongue is English because they wish to communicate it in English. Like a linguistic STD.

They released a patch a couple of days ago but there weren't any game-breaking bugs - mainly annoying ones like glitching animations and camera locking. I've heard more people moaning about the amount of reading you have to do (partly because of the lack of VA) than about bugs. I prefer reading to listening to an actor acting - I still haven't fully recovered from Ribald Barterman in BG2.

From what I've read the game is faithful to the universe of WH40K.

With the previous Owlcat games I liked the older, not yet dumbed-down version of DnD and although this is not that system it is built to the same standard (I've just failed the same fight three times on the bounce ?). Also the fights are usually against at least twice your number (you have a party of six) so that adds to the tactical jiggery-pokery. Much better than a slug-fest against fewer enemies who have a shed load of hit points. Interesting and well put together companions, mercs if you don't like the companions and respeccing. Nice music too. Some of it is very Russian  - sombre, funerary - but it fits the game and one tune in there reminds me of a piece in Skyrim.

Don't want to spoil anything but there are 2 psyker companions in the game.

I was thinking more of this:

Rouge

Playing New Vegas for the millionth time but it's starting to get stale on me. Thinking of diving back into Baldur's Gate 3 now that some pretty hefty updates have come out for it.

(Thank you, seems I hadn't answered when I meant to haha.) This does hype me up for my first play.

No problem.

Another patch due on the 28th. Most of the problems seem to be in the latter acts (4 and 5), I'm still in act 2 (huge game) so I haven't come across anything serious. I'm still enjoying it and actually getting quite good at the combat now I've adapted my play style to Rogue Trader's.

This is the place on Steam where they post news about patches and whatnot:

Skyrim and Neverwinter Nights for general relaxation. (Have good builds for Skyrim, (IMO), and modded adventures for Neverwinter Nights are just great anyway anytime. For 'current'  stuff still slogging my way through Wrath of the Righteous and Through the Ashes. Which don't fill me with glee, and is just so I can say I suffered.

Just finished WH40K Rogue Trader after an alleged 224 hours. 🤔

Absoposilutely brilliant. Apart from fancy graphics and voice-acting it left BG3 for dead.

Major unlearning curve at the beginning as the game mechanics are different from even Owlcat's DnD variant.

Highly recommended.

Worried about bugs? I had a few annoying bugs which required a reload 9mostly to get dialogue options to kick-in) but no game-breakers while completing the game on v1.0.89 - latest version is 1.0.93 with another patch due out later this week.

My biggest annoyance is still that they are using 'heretic' and 'iconoclast' incorrectly.

Burnout Paradise City. Perfect game to get back in for a shot amount of time in an otherwise busy schedule. It's not that busy anymore (otherwise i wouldn't be here rn) but it's still really fun. I'm kinda enjoying Forza Motorsports but they botched it mega hard at launch and Horizon 5 is still a better experience. BG3 got hyped to high heaven and back but i didn't really see the appeal, the whole turn based thing seems very tedious and apparently it's a massive time sink too so fuck that lmao.

Just downloaded and started playing Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, I have yet to run my first actual mission, but I like what I've played so far. The graphics are really nice, and the game does a good job of making you feel like you're in the Warhammer universe as far as art direction goes.

The cutscenes definitely have me looking forward to a live action series.. as long as it's done correctly.

Been replaying COD: MW2 Remastered recently since the reboot series fucking sucks. I forgot how fun the campaign in those games were, been thoroughly enjoying it.

Can't you do both?

Halfheartedly playing Mass Effect; Legendary Edition (so whatever that has in it).

"Steelrising" - my first attempt from the "Soulslike" category

The basic game mechanics of such games are clearly too much for me at 61 years old (and with various health restrictions) ... luckily there is also a "soft egg" mode in the game options - with which I was able to cope.

An absolutely fascinating game idea:

Zitat

What if Louis the 16th had created an army of robots to brutally crush the French Revolution?

Names like "Mesmer" or "Cagliostro" have been known to me since my youth, even outside of history lessons - but how the whole thing is linked to the passion of that time for mechanical automatons... extraordinary

Interesting detail: The "energy" from the souls of the dead powers these machines... why do I have to think of the Dwemer in this context? Their technology for their mechanoids uses "soul stones" - as an energy source and (programmed?) control unit.

Wasn't feelin' it for Mass Effect. Went back to Lord of the Rings Online for a bit.

Pathfinder Kingmaker.

Visually modern but gameplay faithful to original Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale series. What is meant by "gameplay faithful"? Kingmaker rewards learning its systems and punishes ignorance of them. Depth and variety. Mutually exclusive story choices. As an example of depth, there are 16 character classes, with each of those having 3 different subclasses, and 6 more prestige classes. Actual Hard and Unfair difficulty levels.

Anyway, highly recommend.

Horizon Forbidden West.

Graphics are excellent.

Gameplay is meh. Also at max difficulty seems to be super easy (did not die once during my gameplay, and I think I did more than 15% of the game already.)

Another thing I really do not like (but it is not just for this game) are the infinite cut scenes telling you all the story from the big bang to the distant future. Got bored after 30 seconds but often you cannot really skip them.

I'd love to replay NV but it's so damn ugly and the combat is not great.  I really wish they'd do a remake as it has a terrific story and atmosphere.
