Sim Spam in Downloads

Recommended Posts

Thank you both @Mervejuana and @Idiche Volfe for joining us here and your comments, much appreciated ? and thank you both for stopping the infuriating updates.

So I'm aware of the spam and that it happens, which is very annoying and I have previously called out people for this indrectly.

I used to engage on the spam a few months ago when it started, so I'm not going to exempt myself from blame there, but I just don't do it anymore because I have other things to do other than stay on Lover's Lab racing other creators. My last file update was 16 hours ago and it's because I did added new files (as you can confirm here) and in other dates I update it once a day because patreon for the moment as I lost my job in 2020, is my only form of income so technically my work. Most of us engage on the spam on the first place because other users do so and it makes hards for us, who have patreons and rely on the income that comes from the website, to advertise our stuff. I think LL should talk to the creators and ask why do they do stuff instead of calling out people who engage in a behavior because others keep constantly spamming their creations all the time and it shoves everyone else down on the list. So if the people who spam every 30 minutes stop spamming, other creators who rely on creating sims as their income will stop as well, really simple.

Sadly, if you are honest, you only stopped all this 16hours ago, but like I say, it's a step forward, thank you!

Sadly I don't think anyone in the community will have ANY sympathy with anyone "who rely on creating sims as their income" then hide their creations, using others CC, without permission, behind a patreon paywall AND then advertise it on a community forum again and again. How would you feel if I downloaded all your "creations" then changed the eye colour put them behind a paywall, spammed this forum with my link.... If you uploaded all your "creations" here without spamming the section and let people donate to your Paywall if they wish I think you would gain more respect, just my view.

I actually waste literal hours on my creations, I have a right to profit from my labour. And even then, most of the CC creators we use make way much more money tha us as Sim creators on patreon.

And we waste literally hours downloading "updates" that are not updates! ?

I think you will find the majority of CC creators make absolutely nothing from their creations, they do it for the love of creating. What has the amount of money they make got to do with anything anyhow ????

I don't understand the need to villanize and portray us, sim creators, as bad people who steal other people's work and should be banned. We don't ignore the posts, literally just tag us to talk about it.

*Then it's probably best not to...

1) Spam the forums with non updates

2) Hide your content behind a Paywall and use CC that you have not created yourself, Only use your own CC, then sell behind a paywall

4) Treat this space as a shop window! think of it as a community

*only applies to the few "Sim Creators"

Bruh there's people updating their shit every 30 minutes and you're complaining about something from 17 hours ago where I added new Hentai posters to a 4th and updated the patreon content I added.

Yes, I will not repent from updating my posts every Wendnesday advertising content I add on my patreon because it's my source of income and I don't care about people complaining about it, pay my bills and my rent and I'll stop.

1. I don't constantly update my creations.

2. I don't put my creations behind a paywall, at least 80% of my content is available for free (I did the math) weekly after being released on early access

There's people that pirate my content and modify it and I am aware of that, and I couldn't care less because my patrons pay me for my work, not my sims, if they want to modify it they can do whatever they want, it doesn't hurt my income and it doesn't bother me.

You should pay for better internet, then.

Being able to post on LL is a privilege, it's not your birthright.
If you actually pair your weekly update with a sharing of free new content, nobody will say a thing about you shilling your Patreon on the side.

Sharing free content should always be trumping the shilling of Patreon paywalled stuff. Because that's what this site is for. It's for sharing stuff, it's not a personal advertising board for "Exclusive Patreon" stuff.

Look at all the popular creators (Turbo, the animators, mrrakkon, etc.), none of them resorts to backhand spamming tactics, because they know their content is worthy enough to stand on their own.

And the penny drops. We don't owe you a living, we want a clean forum.

I'm sorry about your situation. I'd guess many of the spammers have a similar story. Perhaps not. Whether or not need justifies any behavior is an age old philosophical debate that can't be solved here. If this forum is an advertising platform, I'd prefer to get that out on the table now so I can move on like others have.

If not, I'm a bit puzzled why a short (or long) term ban on a handful of bad actors wouldn't improve the situation mightily. Sometimes immediate action is called for while the perfect solution is sought out. I'll admit maybe I don't see all the angles here, but it looks to me like if a few bad actors were reigned it, it would clean up a lot and encourage others to self-police because they're not in some upload arms race. And give @Spam Police a day off, too. You're doing god's work, friend.

Being able to post on LL is just the ability to write and hit enter on Lover's Lab.com, not a birthright for sure and definetly not a privilege.

I upload free content every saturday ?I update my patreon content every wednesday alongside the posters I make, which, gasp, it's original CC I make and release it for free on the website.

For the sake of the conversation I will provide the math: I have 73 total sims, in which 48 are aviable for free and 23 are exclusive on patreon, meaning that around 30% of all my content is exclusive and 70% is literally free every week after being on early access.

Hmm... It seems to me that you might have missed a couple of "Saturdays" on this one Internet Girls and Celebrities Bundle by IdicheVolfe [Karrigan Taylor added 05/08/21] 1.2 and on this one too Pornstar bundle by IdicheVolfe [Uma Jolie added 05/1/21] 1.55,

and INB4 "yeah but I actually updated X other post", okay, great, but why these two were pushed as updated as well then, why not just the one that was ACTUALLY UPDATED???

There is no angle, I don't like the spam and I would like it to stop because people who update their content every 20 minutes forces me to keep updating it so I don't get thrown away from the download page, which it means a lot actually considering that everyone else is advertising their patreon and you have to plug yours.

Yes, yes exactly that's my point. You don't owe me a living therefore you shouldn't complain about me wanting to have one from labour I input into my creations. ?

Again, yes I can stop bumping my creations once a day to keep myself on the first page if everyone else stop as well, just don't make an entire thing that is really unreleated to the issue complaining that people have to pay for their food and eat.

errr because the sims I uploaded for free are on my patreon in early access and I need to remove the image that says they are aviable on early access in there because they are no longer on patreon and I have to update the content on early access and advertise it? You say that updates on patreon should be followed by free content being made aviable, and it's literally what my saturday uploads are ?and yet you're complaining about it anyways.

It could be just me, but in my book reskinning Maxis assets with someone else's art found on the internet is not really what I would call "original CC", it's CC, but not really "original". If on the other hand, you'd use images you took ingame, then sure, I would consider it OC 100%, but the posters you talk about seems to be all just "recolors".

If what you are saying is true that you don 't like spam and would like it to stop. Than be the first to set the example by stop spamming. it is that easy. i know of a modder on patreon that makes 650 a month that has zero mods behind a paywall and who teaches others how to mod on his patreon for free. How is that u ask. the answer is simple he is good at what he does, does not spam anyone. so please do not insult me by saying you need to support yourself as there are others that are doing it without spamming the users. If your only motive is to make money than learn how to be a business person . Rule number 1 is do not antagonize your potential customer base, which you have 4 times today. several of your statements i read as a big finger to the user. So tell me why should i use your stuff and pay you if u are giving me the finger.

You've skillfully dodged what I was actually asking about.

Again, the question was: Why were these two posts ( Internet Girls and Celebrities Bundle by IdicheVolfe [Karrigan Taylor added 05/08/21] 1.2 Pornstar bundle by IdicheVolfe [Uma Jolie added 05/1/21] 1.55 ) updated, when there was actually no content added? Advertising new Patreon content is not a good enough reason to update the whole thing, you could just leave a post in the file's assigned topic advertising your new Patreon stuff  (like most other decent creators do!).
Proper updates should be EXCLUSIVELY RESERVED for when there was NEW FREE CONTENT uploaded.

Totally agree, well said. Sorry to say Idiche Volf, your comments don't paint you as the victim here. You look like you are lashing out because you are being confronted of wrong doing. Also your "Not ill intent but lazyness" is a piss poor excuse. You are using other peoples works to make a profit

@Idiche Volfe I downloaded one of your sims and checked the archive, it includes the file "TURBODRIVER_WickedWhims_Tuning.package" (which is around 80 MB by the way) which as people can probably tell is part of the WW mod. I'd be willing to guess this is the case for most or all of your sims.

That means people downloading your sims and just throwing the mods you include their own mods folder are very probably getting a duplicate of a key WW file in their folder, very likely from a different version than they have themselves.

This can cause issues and is indicative that you don't inspect the archives you make using Tray Importer which is a useful tool, but the way people use it blindly is getting out of hand. And when you are uploading files for others to download and put in their game you could at least take 1 or 2 minutes to just skim through the archive you're uploading and remove packages like this.

Idrc lol they're free content I upload every wendesnday the semantic behind them is irrelevant and also it's unreleated to the conversation.

Also if you look at the posters, btw, you'll notice this dandy area:

I don't spam, my last update was 18 hours ago in which I updated new content, there's people who update stuff every 20 minutes, hell if you look at the Sims 4 download there's people right now doing it.

12 minutes ago, jbradhl said:

I will ignore the condescending tune in which this message is written and ask, have you tried to not antagonize creators who keep this platform alive on the first place? If the posters here weren't inflamatory and agressive torwards sims creators I wouldn't be reacting to it the way I am, just talk about the spam instead of attacking all of us for no good reason other than "I'm pissed and midly upset someone is requesting money for goods and services I don't care about", I will gladly change my tone if everyone change theirs and stop villainizing us with an inquisitory tone and LARPing as mods.

15 minutes ago, ChinaTam said:

Because if you're not on the download page people won't see your posts and won't engage with them and won't see your patreon ads, naturally, it's a viscious cycle that everyone engages in.

No, not really. I replied that I updated the other files because there was new stuff on patreon and I had to replace images, also you're linking to a file which was updated on saturday the 22nd (this one) and I forgot to change the dates on the title, thanks for the heads up tho I have to update that.

This is what I'm talking about, the unnescessary hostile tone and antagonizing of creators for no goddamn reason other than mod LARPing and feed your Complexe de Napoléon. Apparently me, Discovery, Mervejuana, SecretCrush and others are not decent creators because we opted to directly advertise our patreon on our download pages instead of creating entirely new articles to keep updating (!) every time we add new stuff instead directly on download pages that get hundreds of views per day.

Yeah probably, that's one of my early releases when I had no idea how TS4TE worked and I kept WW files, sliders, subfolders, and etc. If you check my most recent downloads, you'll see that's no longer the case.

So if the download section gets really busy with lots of new content, you will thus have to spam it to advertise your Patreon ??? You won't go off the first page ? So there is our problem, your only concern is your Patreon, your income. THIS IS NOT A SHOP WINDOW!

@Idiche Volfe Listen, You can be all uppity about this as much as you'd like, but at the end, you can bet your bottom dollar that this spamming issue WILL BE RESOLVED one way or another. At the moment, all we do is talk about the issue, but if you read back a bit you'll see that not only "wannabe mod LARPers with a Napoleon Complex" like moi are interested in solving this issue, but actual mods too  (hence the recent CAS/mods separation)... so all I can say is that it's not too late yet for everyone to change their behavior for the better, so they not gonna end up on the wrong end of the proverbial stick when the day comes.
