So that about wraps it up for Patreon?

kinda funny since nsfw is what made patreon

A lot of stuff started out as NSFW and then goes "legit" when they get successful.  On the other hand, if someone is doing mainstream stuff, why do they need something as cheesy patron?

That's news from one year ago, all creators either adapted to the new rules, or switched to different sites.

The article just passed through my twitter feed a couple of days ago. The original thread was more about fanfic content than game mods, so... *shrug*.

Last time I checked all the Sims 4 creators sites are still up including wickedwhims on patreon.  So until we see him targeted and considering the amount of money he earns patreon...i doubt that will be anytime soon.

As it was mentioned, this happened a year ago, and I had to adapt with assistance from Patreon staff, so they wouldn't have to end up banning me. And as DarkAudit said, this is about payment processors being problematic, Patreon in fact helped creators stay on the platform. From my experience, most of the mishaps with Patreon come from their poor choice in legal expertise that ends up failing for the type of a business they are.

The lawsuit they lost happened a week ago. They're going to get bodied like fuck in about a month. You'd better have a contingency plan.

Considering that Patreon is basically a system to pay developers to not work on games - because the real money lays in stretching development out to infinity - I say "good riddance" to them.  It has nothing but cripple porn game development from the get-go.  Someone else will rise to take their place... someone who doesn't give a shit what people make and, if we're lucky, doesn't reward deliberate stalling.

Looks like companies learned nothing from Tumblr and are actively trying to outdo it in terms of sheer stupidity.

To clarify, nothing is set in stone yet. There's always a chance--however slim--some white knight will swoop in and save Patreon financially. It's made even slimmer by the fact that if content creators undergo the mass exodus that's expected, they still lose no matter what. Meanwhile those who stay are putting their livelihoods at serious risk because if Patreon goes belly up, there's an excellent chance the money content creators earned from supporters will disappear as well. It's happened before as Tim Pool mentioned in the video above. But if 2020 has shown us anything, it's that the unexpected can happen and quite suddenly.

Or the courts could rule in Patreon's favor and even reverse the arbitration fees. Assuming Patreon doesn't go bankrupt before then. Right now things are so chaotic I wouldn't be surprised if things did turn out that way.

The very last artist I supported on Patreon just moved to SubscribeStar and I went with them. So now I'm supporting no one there and waiting for them to delete my account. Thirty days to delete your account! They give you some cock and bull story about an outside service needing to do it, but I think they're trying to delay things. Can't have the truth scaring away other content creators and investors alike, can we?

It will definitely hurt them in the long run, but I don't think as significantly as people seem to believe. Patreon has more than enough highly successful SFW creators to sustain the platform. And to an extent, I have to agree with Froggy's statement up there.

Still, we have to be fair when pointing fingers at developers this way. Some of the teams are ridiculously small, often consisting from just one person. I don't think everyone understands the amount of time and effort people have to put into those games to make an update of any value. If their updates are consistent, and there's clear progress in development, I'm all for it.

That's what Tumblr thought. Yes, they're still around but so diminished they may as well not exist anymore. It's also too soon to tell Patreon's fate. Courts move agonizingly slowly when it comes to civil cases.
