Bad Dog's Horse Race

I think it would be simple enough to replace all the couriers with horses, even without that additional mod.

There's only the one courier NPC as far as I know, so just turning him into a horse should do the trick, yeah. It would have to be male-only like the vanilla character is because there's no vanilla courier lines for female NPCs, though.

Now I'll just have to bring myself to installing the required mods and seeing if I can make a horse version indeed. I still would need a character preset for her if it works out, though. Suggestions or even just already-made RaceMenu .jsons are welcome, lol.

Hmm...I've seen this place before.

Horse Race - Lily(NPC).7z

Might suggest something different for her outfit, but it seems the permissions on that one, Karliah Armor 2(shown here as part of the aforementioned Lily mod, just edited to be playable), are not at all open. So perhaps something different for the horse version of the character with the mentioned NPC mod? Or it could be kept just as is, with some suggestion she is an offshoot breed that doesn't have hooves?

Heh. Well, that should come in handy. Plan B was to grab my old Nuzara preset which is already included in the race plugin as an NPC but otherwise unused. I'll check it out and see what I can do.

You sure about that?

Permissions

==========

1. Feel free to use everything in this file.

2. Everything I made for Obliviion is free to convert to Skyrim. Since Im not going to convert them myself.

3. Do not upload this file on Steam Workshop until furthur notice. ( I like Nexus so much more as a modder)

AFAIK if the author has a explicit "Permissions" section in the description, it takes precedence over the default Nexus "Permissions" section, so I'd say we would be in the clear if we wanted to keep it.

That being said, the outfit doesn't have Bodyslide and looks like creating one would be a pain. Maybe using the "UniBoob" reference from BHUNP could help, but I'm still not so sure and I haven't actually used it yet.

Nah, if we keep it I'll make an edit of the boots to turn them into shinguards that still show the hooves.

Otherwise, yeah, plan B would be to use something else instead. Did you have anything in mind? Or maybe @Bad Dog does?

I want the hooves to show. Other than that, go wild.

BTW I have colored tails in the next release so the horses can keep the colors.

Hi, the characters are a great camp too.

Would you be willing to create a small village with more characters?

I'd love to see more Horse Race characters in Skyrim ?.

Edit: Or use an already created MOD with a new village and with the permission of the original author to replace the characters.

Not sure about an entire village, but I did post some NPC ideas.

Spoiler

The race is of course from Hammerfell, and they have at least a few villages/cities within the province. One of them functions as a sort of "capital" for them, housing a small council that occasionally pays an amount of gold to the rulers of Hammerfell, and it correlates the laws of the Equine cities to fit both those of the Empire, and their home province. Generally, they are a fairly peaceful race, that trains it's warriors for purposes of defense, to protect their cities, and they don't really have outward intentions of conquest. Any dealings with Hammerfell or other provinces have been diplomatic, never pushed to violent conflict. In spite of this, there are groups within the race that would seek to make them more, legitimate in the eyes of Hammerfell, who takes their offering of gold without hesitation, but offers the Equine cities no protection, and perhaps have only recently allowed a representative within it's court.

The way Moonbeam ties into this is(a bit of reiteration here, but...), that she was part of a group, some redguards, some of other races, and two other equines that was going to be paid a hefty sum by a Equininan investor, who sought the treasure of an old ruin, belonging to their race. It held no traps, no undead, no dark rituals, just an old tomb with no real surprises. The treasure was real, and when staying back to look over a few rooms as the others went further, she finds a necklace, the pendant being something she had only heard of in passing, a bit of legend among her race, but something fallen out of favor long ago. She decides to keep it for herself, hiding it away in her bag, and she heads to the room the others went to. She is horrified when she enters - all but the two other equines she arrived with, were dead.

Dervish - Trained from a young age, he soon counted among the best warriors of his race, but was displeased with how this race saw the strength of his body needing to be a tool of defense, never outward aggression. Until provoked himself, he was taught to never raise his fists or blade, and to carefully consider the situation, even if it was required. He trained not only among his own race, but with the Orcs of Orsinium, finding himself eventually coming into his own form of their blood rage, something seen as unique to him, but few who learned of it, lived to spread the tale. Five years ago, he fell into a rebellious group that wanted to further their race, to be both seen and heard by Hammerfell, and perhaps even the Empire. Hired by a wealthy investor to the cause, he finds himself annoyed that part of the take would go to members of other races. The treasures of his race, sold off to line the pockets of other, prospering nations. "WHY!?!?" In a fit of his blood lust, he killed them, supported by his mage companion.

Aida - A prime example of a mage among her race, she gained the reputation as a dark sorceress, willing to delve into the secrets of magic in pursuit of power. In spite of this, she acts not as the isolated mage experimenting on magic, but traveling to expand her knowledge of the craft. Her use of necromancy doesn't exactly gain her good favor in places, but she rarely displays the talent unless needed. Asked by Dervish to assist him and some others in obtaining treasures of their race, she served to prove that the tomb held nothing of magic significance, no traps, no curses. She posited that their race at this point in time wasn't known for magic, and thus even if this tomb was of rulers, they employed nothing in the way of defenses for their resting place, and thus, they were able to plunder it with impunity. Once in the main treasure room, she witnessed Dervish become finally incensed, the realization hitting him that the items in the tomb being plundered by the hands of other races, would enrich the wealth of their homes, not his. She somewhat disagreed with him, thinking that the gold would just line their pockets for a while, until they spent it on wine and good company. But he would not hear it, and promised her much more coin if she continued giving her assistance. Reluctantly agreeing, she could not help but be horrified upon seeing him put his sword through the back of the nearest redguard, and turning on the rest, she used her magic to paralyze them, to make them drop their weapons, only to be cut down moments later. When the carnage settled, she saw Dervish breathing heavy, blood dripping from his sword, and he started laughing, while her mind was a mix of emotions. She looked up as Moonbeam entered, and noticed his laughter change to one that she had heard from men before. She watched as Moonbeam was pinned to the ground, and when she tried to stop what he was doing, the magic failed her, and her pathetic attempt at physically separating the two lead to her being thrown against the nearby wall, hearing faintly the crack of bone - one of her arms had broken.

"I'm not going to be touching you, you disgusting freak. Grab your take and go, while I finish up here."

~

In terms of a possible quest, I'm thinking it would depending on the player hearing a bit of this story from Moonbeam(with some details kept a bit vague, but not entirely obfuscated), and after visiting one of the hold Capitals, the player will receive a note about two days later from Aida, who is staying somewhere near Markarth(possibly a small Dwemer ruin somewhere close to the cities' entrance,), and wishes to speak with Moonbeam, and you. She would enlist you to find Dervish, who has been looking for Moonbeam for the last year, and wants something she has. Aida would tell you that he has set himself up in a Dwemer ruin on the border to Hammerfell, and plans to eventually gain enough support to find her, and she wishes that you go after him.  After a decently sized Dwemer ruin(the enemies possibly being a few automatons, and equine mercenaries as you get closer to Dervish), your confrontation with him would allow the player a few options.

-You could simply make it a large fight, it going in two stages - dealing with all of his remaining mercenaries first, and then Dervish himself if you survive that.

-You could simply give him what he wants - Moonbeam and the necklace she has. This has a similar gold reward, and you may be offered to join in the party that comes next.

-Allow him to take this necklace, and receive a large amount of gold for it. Certain skills levels or perks might allow you to convince him to let Moonbeam go with you, and he would not pursue her again.

New version up. Includes better eyes, Blazes' camp updates, some fixes to the schlong scripts. Load and go.

...And a quick fix because I messed up Blaze's updates.

So, rather than something for Moonbeam, I've got some possible dialog for the mentioned Aida character. I'm possibly going to do a preset for her soon too. The thought I have on what she would wear though, would possibly be a variation on the dress that Nocturnal wears, with(if there is interest in getting it to work with this race?) or without the hood - and she would not wear any boots or shoes at all. Possibly with a retexture that makes it black and silver, rather than blue and gold.

I'd also like it if perhaps this version of the vanilla outfit could have a few changes(most likely starting from one of the mods which has a bodyslide set for it), where it would be more open in the front, as I'm thinking she would use the futa addon this mod has.

Spoiler

[Introduction]

A - I cannot say that I fully understand what you know, but the reason I asked you to travel here is that I require your assistance.
     |
[PC] This has something to do with Dervish, doesn't it?
           |
A - It would not be anyone else. Believe me, unlike him, I have looked back on that day with regrets, where I am sure he has not.

   [PC] What do you need?
          |
A - There is a chance, that Dervish can be dealt with. He believes not that our race is superior, but that it needs to be, better.
                |
A - For that, it needs to stop relying on other races, and stand alone, to get the recognition of the rest of Tamriel. But he would rather do this, eventually through war and conquest, than any kind of diplomacy.
                    |
A - I'm not working for anyone, or for any ideal. All I ask is that you do what I cannot.

[PC] The note was rather vague, so...
           |
A - Of course it was. You should have also noted that it was addressed to you, and not Moonbeam, and that was, I assure you, for a reason.
               |
A - I do not know if she has the will to face her past, and I would not wish to force either of you to face it at all.

[PC] And you have something to offer in exchange, correct?
          |
A - Of course I do. It is also likely that Dervish has treasures you can make use of, as well.

[PC] Why would I help a Mage? Can you not deal with him?
          |
A - No. It is as pathetic as it sounds. I have studied magic for the last few decades, the power going as far as to extend my life, but not at the cost of others. Yet, he is immune to it.
               |
A - Too much rage, or perhaps something else. I tried researching it, but the most I could come up with, are theories.
                     |
A - Perhaps something he learned in his time with the Orcs, or elsewhere, that channels a very powerful magical barrier, that is more innate, than something one has to actively call upon.

[PC] [Speech 25 or Higher] I'm supposed to render my assistance to a Necromancer?
            |
A - I have dabbled in those arts, yes. I will not make righteous pleas, suggesting that I am something that I am not. But no matter what I have done, I have done so in the interest of power, trying to find reason in it.
                |
A - The most I have found, is reason to not be akin to Dervish. I sleep soundly, knowing that my arts never leave crying widows, children, or grieving mothers. Where I know Dervish has killed many in the past five years, the spilled blood of Elves and men, because they were in his way, or because the wealth of our race would line their pockets.
                     |
A - You can see my magic as whatever you wish, but I know what I am not, irrespective of your viewpoint.

The mod works great but been wondering about the tail. It seems to always revert to default color went you exit the game. it's not a bother just thought you would like to know.

Posted

There are equipable tails in different colors. You can get them through the console or, with the NPC pack, at the horse camp.

How do I get that head appaloosa texture like in screenshot 7? Mine is more polka dot like, less like freckles and more like blotches.

That was my dollar store appaloosa before I got around making a proper pattern. It was achieved with combination of whale shark pattern from Shark Overlays and some freckles from Skin Feature Overlays.

I just downloaded the newest update and I noticed that the warpaints for male Equines aren't showing up for females? The only warpaints that show up for females are the stripes and the skull. I adore the snake warpaint but it isn't showing up for females. I have racemenu, where you can choose additional warpaints, but the warpaint textures don't show up with this either. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Great mod!

Did I miss something? Cos with the CBBE patch, all females get a blue layer.

Blue means there is a texture file missing, or a bad file path. First check to make sure that everything in the CBBE patch is in your Data folder, exactly as it comes in the download.

Works with the latest version. Thanks!

There are equipable tails that won't lose their colors. Load the npc file and get one from their chest or use the console. "Help tail" will list them.

Maybe I'm being dumb, but the tail keeps turning white when I load a game.

I'll just quote myself here:

On 5/17/2020 at 11:08 PM, Blaze69 said:

The hair shader is what makes the tail pick up on the hair tint as well (and not be white), but the game was never meant to have anything that used the hair shader but was not actual hair (i.e. a head part) so there's no code to keep the tail's color persistent, and it resets to white (no tint) from time to time.

There's a mod that is meant to keep hair color applied on wigs that has the fortunate side effect of also working for horse tails, but it's player-only. There's no easy and/or not-script-intensive way to do it for NPCs, though.

Use either the mod I linked or the pre-tinted equippable tails as suggested by BD.

*Handsome horse pictures*

Okay so I'm gonna ask: Did you make that stripe on his head, or is my game just screwy because last time I made a Horse character, I was looking for something just like that. I moved all the sliders, looked through all the warpaint and makeup options, and still didn't find anything. Which is weird, because I swear there was options like that in older versions of the mod that I can't find anymore.

I didn't, IIRC the blazes are in dirt slider. Granted, I don't use the latest version since I have no use for precolored tails and I'm too lazy to update otherwise but I don't think BD would remove them either.

Posted

Nope, they're on the dirt slider. Not enough face tint sliders. I suppose I can add new ones with RaceMenu? Dunno, and they need to be available in CK too anyway.
