Opinions of The Witcher Series on Netflix?

Watched season 2, was okay but tbh i preferred season 1 as that seemed more Geralt going around and being a Witcher where as season 2 would probably be more appropriately named "The bodyguard"

:P

The entire season seems like an extremely long escort mission (game reference.)  :( At least it isn't Netflix's Cowboy Bebop!

Season 2 was GREAT...unlike Season 1, it was more linear and they kept to the books in some ways like Triss' chest mutilation which led to her wearing high necked dresses which is canon.   They did cut out some parts from the books. It's setting up for a major all out war in the next season between Nilfgaard and the Northern Kingdoms.

The ending was no surprise to me, it fits the books as far as Ciri's bloodline goes...and she has a destiny towards  The White Frost

Reminds me that i wanted to read the books ages ago.. ?

I liked Season 2 fine. Some pretty interesting Monsterfights along the way which i found season 1 needed too.  Bad Sideeffect where some Characters coming too short tho, i hoped Vilgefortz would get more interesting stuff to do.

Luckily they finally got Triss more screen time and i finally could make my mind up about the actress. (not talking about anything other then her acting.) and she seams to be good.  ?

Yens Ark.. . I liked the whole powerless ark but she just got her a out of jail card to easy.

Dandelion tho, took every scene he was in and owned it ?

Is it strange that i liked the supporting cast more then Henry? :/ i think he does a fine job but i just found Characters like Jaskier, Dara more interesting..

I've just watched the first episode of S1. I'm awarding an extra point for naked women after 10 minutes. ? Quite impressed, certainly in a different league than the Wheel of Time attempt.

Amused at the mix of British accents in the inn. Less so with the battle scenes and the Polish Lancer-types who didn't do anything remotely lancer-like.

For me there is too much side stuff. For a series called The Witcher, there is a lack of Witcher scenes.

But I have that issue with lots of media: Always going for epic, grandeur, complex, when all I want is the basic essence.

In Supernatural I'd be happy to watch 2 brothers hunt ghosts, in Witcher I'd be happy if it was about Geralt traveling around and doing bounties and side quests.

I don't need wars, world ending threats and all that jazz.

What you want is US television or films.

Remembers me how much i would love a Prequel with her as the leading role? The backstory of the Lioness with all the battles and drama in her personal live would be great if done right

There's always Queen Meve of Aedirn and Rivia. Terrific story there too...but you could say the same of Saskia of Lyria.

> I watched all S2 on Netflix and IT SUCKS. Didn't read the book, but the series is failure. I already explained earlier what's bugging me about it. plus some new discoveries. As I said earlier, if there weren't special effects, the whole series isn't worthy to watch. And I have seen much better sex scenes, boobs and naked bodies in other series like GOT. THAT series is the best of the bests - epic.

it took me a while to suss out that we were looking at past events.

? I got confused on that, too. My worik was completely lost at first, and I could only puzzle the pieces together because I knew them from the books before.

I DO like jumps in the timeline, but I DO like a narrator or some sort of 4th wall breaking to tell it to me.

We still haven't touched S2 until we can settle down at christmas :classic_shy:

yeah, watching S1 for the first time, those time jumps really confused the shit out of me :D second time watching was ok ^^

S2 is ok, not great, not terrible ?‍♂️

only thing that really pisses me of, is the cursing, the sheer amount of it... sorry, it just feels unappropriate, one curse here or there is ok, but this? no, thank you, just too much. it really kills the mood sometimes. I mean, if it was comedy, fine, like in Bad Boys 2, was really funny - but in a series like this? no, just no

Sounds pretty authentic in Nilfgaardian, lol. 'Northerner' was usually accompanied with a few colorful expletives from what I recall.

I get more annoyed with the anachronistic 'okay' and 'good luck with that' type utterances. In the UK people swear almost all the time.

One of my favourite books is Chapman's Homer (17th century) and in the intro Chapman calls his critics 'wind-fuckers'. ? Fuck knows what it was like in mediaeval times.?

I think audiences forget to set realistic expectations.  Very few books/games/etc that have been translated to film go over well.  Some criticism is deserved.  Some criticism is based on unrealistic expectations of experiencing something iconic through a different medium.

The audience often judges before seeing such films, even subconsciously.   Art is a two-way street, if the viewer is unrealistic, lazy, or unable to think outside of the experience they had with one medium, then they might as well not watch.

JMHO.

S02E04 - That fucking bard is back. ☹️

Edit: People using phrase such as "thinking outside the box" is far, far worse than any amount of swearing. I expect mediaeval peasants to use uncouth language. I do not expect them to be using twentieth century Americanisms.
