Hi folks. I recently posted the first half of Chapter 94. It ends on a bit of a cliffhanger where Charley has to make an important decision about how to split resources between two different operations. In this poll, you can decide which path Charley will take. The adventure will start around Chapter 100 and will last about 25 chapters, comprising the 5th book of the series.

 

This poll will run for 48 hours, closing on October 11th.

 

Without spoilers, a few broad factors involved with each choice:

 

If Charley Goes to Far Harbor

  • Charley will seek help from DiMA to decode Kellogg's brain implant
  • Charley will grow in Endurance
  • Most or all of Book 5 will take place in Far Harbor
  • Heather will get a costume update
  • The Minutemen will grow in strength
  • The Minutemen will plan their next major operation based on their own needs and interests

 

If Charley Goes to Lynne Woods

  • Charley will seek help from The Railroad to find Brian Virgil
  • Charley will grow in Perception
  • Most or all of Book 5 will take place in The Commonwealth
  • Piper will get a costume update
  • The Concord Rangers will grow in strength
  • The Minutemen will plan their next major operation based on Charley's needs and interests

 

Some additional facts that I must keep vague to avoid spoilers:

  • This choice will impact Doctor Cain's power suit project
  • This choice will impact relations with the Institute
  • This choice will impact relations with the Brotherhood of Steel

I personally don't think this branching out is a good solution in your story.


I have formulated my concerns as a comment under the last chapter.


In my eyes, you have fallen into a narrative trap of your own making.

That's fair - and I appreciate the level of detail you gave me about your concerns in the other post. I tried to give some insight into the 'behind the scenes' decision making in my response to you there.

While I did vote, I've no real idea what I voted for, even with your explanations. Never played FO, unlikely I ever will. I simply don't like post-apocalyptic settings. (Earthdawn perhaps excluded, but that's only technically a post-apocalyptic setting.)

OK, interesting, I hadn't considered that dimension. I'll try to do a better job summarizing and explaining the choices in future polls rather than leaning on the story blogs and/or "widely known" background that might not, in fact, be widely known to folks who haven't played the game.

Appreciated, some things I knew from your blog (like Minutemen, Concord Rangers), some I feel I should, but it's a long-running blog and I guess my brain decided it's not the kind of information that has to be retained long term. ^^

And... we've got a winner! I need to do a little bit of planning and behinds the scenes work, but the second half of chapter 94 should be out this weekend, then 95-99 over the course of the coming week. There will be a little bit of downtime before Book 5 starts, just to catch up on off-screen stuff to ensure the smooth flow of the game.
