Decopauge123 Posted January 15, 2022 Posted January 15, 2022 I don't remember when I started playing this, but I do remember sitting in my living room at my desk playing this. Awesome game for the day. 1
beefers Posted January 22, 2022 Posted January 22, 2022 first video game was Pong followed by an Atari 2600. First computer game was on our Apple II C... probably King's Quest.
Zorai Posted January 24, 2022 Posted January 24, 2022 I think the first actual computer game I played was DragonFable, allot of fun was had with that back then and was what got me into fantasy and RPG's in general.
TolstoyTony6265 Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 Random ColecoVision console that only played Pong. It had the controllers built-in. More modern? Whatever game came with the Atari 2600...was it "Combat"? Yes, I know I'm old as dirt.
TolstoyTony6265 Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 Oh, waitaminnute...I goofed here. First COMPUTER game, as in played on a PC? Ugh...I started being a member of the PC Master Race late in the game...it was either Fallout 3 or New Vegas. I was a console boy until I found Gopher Gaming's tutorials on modding. Fascinated me enough to get my first real gaming rig back in the Windows Vista days.

Well we all can't start off as PC gamers, though........with your time line, you should have been playing Star Trek on a TRS-80, or the game called "Kingdom". However, you will still fit right in as we have many younger gamers who are avid modders as well. It does hurt a little when I see some of the games posted are games that......are still sitting next to me on the CD Rom shelf...... heck X Com UFO Defender is still on my hard drive.

I'm rather young myself so I usually can't keep up with some of the titles weathered veterans refer to but that's got to be the first and only I can recall I've played seriously while I was a child - and even growing up - and I'm always looking for something along those lines. There's Xenonauts (a sequel is inbound, too) that's of great interest in those types of games, speaking more recently. Edited January 30, 2022 by Idyll

I had one Op base, one factory base and one R+D base. 10 guards to a base, 40 others, cept for the op base which has 30 guards/soldiers and are the highest ranking. Yes, I love that game.
pahrias12 Posted August 27, 2022 Posted August 27, 2022 Mega bomber man on the ZX spectrum. Been hooked on games since lol
LottiexxxSims Posted August 28, 2022 Posted August 28, 2022 Probably Pokemon Yellow on Gameboy I have a very vague recollection of playing a Space Jam game on the Playstation but that had been out for several years if not nearly a decade looking at the release date before I played it If it wasn't Pokemon it was probably Speedy Eggbert. I remember playing a lot of that.
Lyman the Lunatic Posted August 31, 2022 Posted August 31, 2022 On the computer? Probably Minesweeper back in the early Windows days. Any platforms in general? Battle City on the Famicom.
sila Posted September 10, 2022 Posted September 10, 2022 (edited) The first one I ever played was wolfenstein 3d as a kid on the computer at my dad's friend's office heh. I was more into console games growing up, had an snes, then n64, went to ps1, then ps2, then ps3. The game that really got me into pc gaming was funny enough... Skyrim. In 2011 I had a computer that could *barely* run it at 1024x768 on minimum graphics settings. I got like 30 fps and thought it was amazing. Fastforward 11 years and now I pretty much only play games on pc, although I do have a switch that I play a few jrpgs on. And I still play skyrim Edited September 10, 2022 by sila
kamoewarrior Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 Either Minesweeper or 3D Pinball Space Cadet. Can't remember exactly which one I played first.
X1R1 Posted October 20, 2022 Posted October 20, 2022 Ooh, I like this topic. Hitman: Codename 47 then Need For Speed 3: Hot Pursuit (1998) 1
coldheartzero Posted April 23, 2023 Posted April 23, 2023 Something like Math Blasters,,, but that wasn't it. It was like space invaders but you had to do math in order to shoot. Way back in the 5th grade (I'm 50) a semi pulled up and in the trailer was a big long row of computers we got to use and that was what I played. No clue what kind of computer it was and the games were pre-loaded. Now I've played the old arcade Pong game, had a couple of different kinds of Atari as well. I vividly remember going into several arcades and there was nothing but Pinball cabinets and the occasional punching bag game, or the gopher bash games.
nIn nIn nIn Posted April 24, 2023 Posted April 24, 2023 First game on my first PC. Came on a single 3.5" floppy disk. Ran on Dos (I had Dos 6.0 and Windows 3.0 on that first PC - a 386sx33).
belegost Posted April 24, 2023 Posted April 24, 2023 (edited) Computer or electronic? Computer stuff was something on Atari 800XL, probably Fort Apocalypse, a helicopter combat side-scroller or Frogger. Can't remember really. First electronic game though? Even before that it was one of these Soviet made toys They were very popular in certain geographic areas and there were no alternatives. No affordable ones at least. Gristle Posted April 24, 2023 Posted April 24, 2023 First game on an actual programmable computer that ever I played was accomplished by sneaking into the math department's computer lab at UCLA as a freshman high school student with a borrowed account to play the text-based adventure game "Adventure" (aka "Colossal Cave Adventure"), by Crowther and Woods, on what was probably a PDP-10, using a printer terminal -- no screen. ("YOU ARE IN A MAZE OF TWISTY LITTLE PASSAGES, ALL ALIKE.") I got caught and kicked out after the third visit. I didn't win the game though until someone ported it to the Apple II sometime later.
avclrz Posted October 23, 2023 Posted October 23, 2023 roblox! i had never really been into games as a kid but one of my very first bestfriends had shown me roblox. i still play it today even at my historic age
Miauzi Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 The first game on a computer for me? In 1984 it was a kind of "economic simulation" that took place in Ancient Egypt... was based entirely on texts. The hardware for this was a modular computer with plug-in cards (17 inch system) - with an 8-bit CPU based on the Z80. In the same year I wrote several games of my own for my programmable "calculator" (from the company "Casio")... including a simulation of the moon landing of the "Apollo 11" mission (with the actual data such as empty and fuel mass of the lander or the orbital speed, etc.) and a submarine hunting game... where the player controls a destroyer that has to find and destroy a submarine... but the submarine drives on its own and either escapes or attacks the destroyer... and for I had a maximum of 512 program lines available (that's when I learned "memory optimized programming"... that was almost 40 years ago now)
brussh Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 I knew a lecturer at Warwick Uni and I got to play a game, Pyramids I think it was called. Quite possibly late 70's or early 80's. It ran on a giant box with flashing lights called a computer. The graphics where non existent and there where about 8 inputs Y/N/L/R/U/D. It was pretty cool. I constantly took wrong turns and died a lot. Hmm! an old habit I just cant shake. Thigs really got going years later when there was the nude patch for Tomb Raider
ElaboratePseudonym Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 (edited) Asteroids or Defender, arcade versions, one quarter at a time. Memory told me 1977 or 78. but yon internet fact repository states Asteroids date of origin as 1979 and Defender as 81, so perhaps recollections of childhood are not entirely precise. Maybe it was a black and white, multi-car isometric racing game that I can't remember the name of. Not Death Race or Gran Trak 10, but looked alot like Gran Trak 10, except three or four cars in the race. Edit. It was probably Sprint 2. Edited February 2, 2024 by ElaboratePseudonym
mercplatypus Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 I honestly don't remember what the name of the first computer game I played was. I remember that it was 8-bit and that it was one of those games where you had you sprite, another sprite and needed to plot a trajectory to hit it back around 1991-1992. The sprites were super basic and I remember you couldn't really tell what they were supposed to be by just looking at them. I think the first console and console game I got my hands on was Ultraman for Super Nintendo in the early to mid 90's. I did toy around with an Atari at one point, but that was owned by a friend who had gotten it as a collector's item.
Lyyli Posted February 28, 2024 Posted February 28, 2024 On a home computer... I have no idea... probably typing games on the Apple ][. Arcade... I dunno... Crystal Castles maybe? Though definitely not in 1983, more like 87.
