MiniNeeds V3.2

This mod adds a set of needs to the player.
For each need, you can define how much time you can spend without satisfying the need. If too much time will pass some penalties will be applied.
You can also define the maximum percentage of the damage applied when a need is not satisfied.

Each need can be enabled or disabled in the MCM. You can use only the needs you want.

Warning: also if I tried to test everything it is possible that there are bugs. Report them and I will fix them for the next version

Water Patch

A patch to ignore the water level is added.

Just unzip it and replace the equivalent files in the original mod.

Installation and Credits

Spoiler

Installation
Use your favorite Mod Manager. If you had a previous version of MiniNeeds, you need to uninstall it first, and clean the save from all scripts starting with the "mnd" string. In all cases a clean save is recommended.
If you find bugs, just report them, I will fix them as soon as possible. be aware that V2 is a full re-write of the mod and, also if I have done many tests, there can be bugs inside.

Included translations
English, French, and Russian.

Drinking
You need to drink, whatever drink (water, ale, wine, etc.) you eat it will reduce the need level. Some foods, like soups, will satisfy both the Eat and Drink needs.

You cannot stay awake forever. If you sleep your need will be satisfied.

Talking
You need to talk and interact with people, from time to time. Remain silent and the need level will increase.

Bathing
You can get dirty fighting and exploring dungeons. Take a shower from time to time (the mods adds showers, check the specific spoiler.)

Yes, you need to do your business or the penalties will apply.

Sex (only if SexLab is installed)
How you can live without having sex? Do sex to satisfy this need.

Skooma
If you are addicted to this substance you need to consume it often, or the penalties will apply.

Alcohol
If you are addicted to alcoholic beverages (ale, wine, etc.) and you need to consume it often, or the penalties will apply.

Weed (only if Cannabis Skyrim is installed)
If you are addicted to this substance you need to consume it often, or the penalties will apply.

Being Drunk
This need works differently compared to the others. If you drink alcohol, your drunk level will raise and the penalties will apply. You get sober while the time passes.

You can also decide, in the main MCM page, if you want animations for eating, drinking, pissing, and defecating.

You can configure exactly everything for the mod.

First of all you can define the actual penalties associated to each need.
In the MCM page, first you can select the need you want to define, and then a page with all the 50+ possible penalties will appear.

[Select Need for Penalties]

Select Need for Penalties

Inside this page, when you click on a penalty, a set of symbols will cycle:

No    the penalty will not be applied
[I--]    the penalty will be applied as soon the need starts (about 5% of the specified time.)
[-I-]    the penalty will be applied at about the half of the time specified (40%)
[--I]    the penalty will be applied when the time is close to be consumed (over 90%)
[---][I--]    the penalty will be applied as soon you go over the defined time
[---][-I-]    the penalty is applied when you are at 150% of the time
[---][--I]    the penalty is applied when you are over the 200% of the specified time

[Penalties]

Penalties

Let me give you an example:
Let's consider the Eating need, configured with a 8 hours delay.
You can set the penalty "Health regeneration" if you are at [-I-] (so at 4 hours you will stop regenerating your health)
At [---][I--] you can set the blurry vision penalty.
At [---][-I-] you can start to damage the health.
Maybe at [---][--I] you can also start reducing both the belly and the weight of the actor.

If you see a number after a penalty, it is the number of times the same penalty was used for a different need.
[Multiple usage of Penalties]

Multiple usage of Penalties

In expert mode you can also fully configure the widgets, define the food and drinks from other mods, and load/save the configuration.
You can also select the specific animations for eating, drinking, pissing, and pooping individually (in simple mode you can only activate or deactivate all of them together.)

Widgets

Spoiler

The mod can also adds widgets (that can be placed in many different ways, configurable in the MCM) showing the actual need to satisfy the basic exigences. (Widgets can be fully disabled.)

In the MCM you can activate/deactivate the widgets.
By defaut you getone widget for each need that is activated. You can disable single widgets if you like.

The widgets can be arranged in many different ways, around the 8 areas on the borders of the screen. (Top left, Top center, Top right, Left middle, Bottom Left, etc.)
You have 3 different sizs for them, and you can also specify the distance between the borders (horizontally and vertically), adnthe space between them (how far will the widgets be against each other.)

Widgets top center bigWidgets left vertical small

Widgets bottom left medium

You can have the list of widgets arranged as horizontal line or stacked one over the other vertically, or also grouped in boxes (two lines of horizontal widgets or two columns of vertical widgets.)

Widgets top left small grouped

And you can define the vertical and horizontal margins for them, and the space between them

Widgets with space set to 15 Widgets with vertical and horizontal margin set to 16Widgets with margins set to 30 and space set to 25        Widgets arrangement detail

Widgets have icons and colors. Colors can be changed directly in the MCM, while it is not possible to remove theicons once the game is started.
There is a folder in Data/Interface/Exported/Widgets/skyui/ thatcontains all the widgets of MiniNeeds. If you want there is a sub-folder called "Widgets without icons", just copy its content inside the previous directory and the widgets will be without icons.

Water bottles

Spoiler

You can find a "Water bottle" that you can drink, mostof the vendors sell them.
Once you drink it, you will have an "Empty water bottle".

If you use this bottle when you are inside the water (a river for example) it will be filled again.

There are also recipes to "build" an empty water bottle, you just need an empty wine bottle and a Blue Mountain Flower. You can build them at cooking spots.

Showers

Spoiler

The mod adds a few dozen shower inside Skyrim, and they can be used as any other furniture.
They are placed in all cities.

You can find or buy a book that shows the locations of the showers as quest markers (there is one in Bannered Mare, but you can also find it from vendors with a low probability, you can also find it a loot somewhere.)

Book Showers locations

This book is just to get the quest to know where the showers are.

Showers locations map

But the there is another book, as usual you can buy it or you can find it.
When you read it, you will be able to contruct a new shower exactly where you want. Just move around with the preview, and then click on the E button to activate it andmake it real.
Once you build a shower you will be asked if you are OK or not, in case you are OK, the book will be consumed and the shower will be placed where you decided.

Building a shower in Breezehome

There is also an option in the main MCM page to disable all the showers that are added by default. Some mods will alter the cells, so the showers may be missplaced.

Food and Drinks from other mods

Spoiler

All food items of the game and DLCs are a valid source of food, and all drinks from the game and DLCs are a valid source of liquids.
In case you have one or more of the following mods (that are not a dependency) also their foods, drinks, and other items are used.

In case you have another mod that adds foods and drinks (or Skooma, or Blood, or Milk, or Alcohol, etc.), once you use the specific food at least once, you will find it in a specific MCM page called Unknow Food.
In this page you can specify the type you prefer for the food or drink you just had.

Uknow food.png

You can also export and import the updated list of foods and share it with other modders. See the Loading/Saving the configuration section. [Unknow food]

Loading/Saving the configuration

Spoiler

The mod already considers the Food and Drinks added by many other mods but it is possible that other mods will add more food, drinks, alcohol, drugs, etc.
In case you eat some food or drinks that is unkown it will appear (if you are in Expert mode) inside a specific page of the MCM.
In this page you can define what it is, so it will be used by MiniNeeds.

It is also possible to export your extra foods using the Load/Save page of the MCM, you need PapyrusUtil to be able to do that. [LoadSave Config]

JSON file to load: here you have a list of JSON files inside the directory SKSE/Plugins/MiniNeeds/ pick one to load it.
Load selected config will actually load the configuration. No worries, only the items specified in the config will be applied, the other ones will stay as your current config.
This can be useful in case you just want to add some extra food from another player or just its definition of penalties.

LoadSave Config.png

Save current full config: This will save everything. The file will be named automatically currentMiniNeedsConfig.json in case you did not specify a name.
Save the config of penalties: This will save only the settings for the penalties (not the needs or the widgets). Useful to share your penalties with other modders. The file will be named automatically currentMiniNeedsConfig.json in case you did not specify a name.
Save the config of Food and Drinks: This will save only the extra food and drinks you defined. Useful to share the food and drinks you identified coming from other mods. The file will be named automatically currentMiniNeedsConfig.json in case you did not specify a name.

Advanced Stuff

Interacting via ModEvents

The mod listen for two mod events: MiniNeedsSetValue and MiniNeedsGetValue
MiniNeedsSetValue: if you send this mod event with a string parameter and an int parameter, you will be able to set the actual percentage of the need.
MiniNeedsGetValue: if you send this mod event with a string parameter, you will receive another Mod Event "MiniNeedsValue" (you have to subscribe to it) to get the actual value of a need.

Possible values for the string parameter:

  • Eat: get or set the percentage of the Eating need
  • Drink: get or set the percentage of the Drinking need
  • Sleep: get or set the percentage of the Sleeping need
  • Talk: get or set the percentage of the Talking need
  • Sex: get or set the percentage of the Sex need
  • Piss: get or set the percentage of the Urination need
  • Poop: get or set the percentage of the Defecation need
  • Skooma: get or set the percentage of the Skooma need
  • Alcohol: get or set the percentage of the Alcohol need
  • Weed: get or set the percentage of the Weed need
  • Drunk: get or set the percentage of being drunk
  • All: only for the event MiniNeedsGetValue, send all values for all needs

Interacting via direct calls

int perc = mndController.instance().getPecent(need)
Use it to get the current percent value of a need (between 0 and 100.)
Where need is a string, he names of the needs are the same you get for the mod events.

int step = mndController.instance().getStep(need)
Use it to know the current step of a need (between 0 and 6). Return values are:
0 - [---] need does not apply (or is completely fullfilled)
1 - [I--] the percent of the need below 33%
  2 - [-I-] the percent is between 33% and 90%
  3 - [--I] the percent is between 90% and 100%
4 - [---][I--] the percent is after 100% and less than 150% so the time defined was passed
5 - [---][-I-] the time is between one and half and twice the time specified
6 - [---][--I] when the time is over twice the time specified.

You don't need to define the property for nndMiniNeeds, just call the global mndMiniNeeds myMiniNeeds = mndMiniNeeds.instance().

If you want to check if the mod is there, then use the usual SKSE way:

  if Game.GetModByName("MiniNeeds.esp")!=-1 && Game.GetModByName("MiniNeeds.ess")!=255
    isMiniNeedsAvailable = true
  endIf

Bonus:

The mod adds a pose (used for the screenshot and the MCM) that can be used by sending the event "mndPose" (in the console, click on the actor and type SAE mndPose)

Actually, it is a bug. I will fix it next weekend.

Thanks for reporting it.

Piss: if you don't take a leak from time to time, you will slow down.

Sleep: if you don't sleep enough, your magicka will suffer, and after a while also your vision.

Very nice on these two effects. I often don't notice debuffs to health, stamina, or magicka unless I happen to look at my active effects page - but slowdown and vision issues are instantly apparent.

What kind of vision problems happen? And would this conflict with some people's ENB settings, or other mods that have those effects?

Link to comment

For the image space modifier I use Double vision and blur, that are ignored by ENB settings.

So they should work on any ENB.

Similar techniques were used in SexLab fade to black. But here there are some ENB incompatibilities (because of the saturation of colors.)

I've messed around with it a little. Here are my experiences:

- In the starting dungeon with LAL, all of my stats got reduced to near-zero and I had no food on me, obviously. This could cause problems with a few starts, maybe the mod should come disabled by default.

- Personally I found the widgets very helpful, but too intrusive.

- The sleeping function from "Simple Actions" works with MiniNeeds, I'm quite happy about that.

- The "Bottled Water" item added by Requiem is not recognized to reduce thirst as far as I could tell. This may be the case with all food items added by other mods, but it needs more testing. Maybe it's a problem with keywords they use?

- The water item added by the mod instantly restores 15 stamina to the player. This is not very balanced for Requiem, since health / magicka / stamina potions work over time, and food items only give the restore option outside of combat. My work-around with this is the mod called "Animations", which adds a drinking animation (as well as many others), making it impossible to drink it during combat (well, without dying, that is).

Aside from these, one cosmetic change I would make is changing the model of the Water Bottle. It's not something extremely important (really, it could be whatever), but the bottle doesn't seem to be too big (i.e., probably couldn't hold a good amount of water), and looks a lot like the restore magicka potions model, which is a bit confusing and just generally doesn't fit for something as cheap as water. Another would be the widgets to something smaller and/or if it doesn't increase the performance cost at all, maybe widgets that get more visible as time passes?

I'm a bit ashamed of myself, this feels like complaining. You did an amazing job, and practically my script load did not increase at all. I wonder, if I increased the duration of the "Water Bottle" item in TES5Edit to 15... I guess it would make it a work-over-time potion, restoring 15 points of stamina over 15 seconds?

I can have the mod starting "disabled", not a big deal.

About the widgets I may make them smaller, or also with a progressive opacity. Or also move them to the left or the right or grouping them together. Next version.

Food and drinks from other mods are not considered. There is not a "magic keyword" for them, so I had to hand pick each item (to understand it is food or drink.) I may add a soft dependency with Requiem (and other mods) in future.

I can replace the "add immediately 15 stamina) to add 15 units of stamina over 15 seconds. But probably I will just reduce the amount of restored stamina to 2 units. At the end it is just water.

The bottle is actually the standard Potion mesh with updated textures. I may do a custom mesh for next version.

Hello :-) i realy like the minimalistic approach.

One Hint: to take a leak you need to equip a spell. Even if it's done automaticly it's trying to equip a spell. If your hands are bound it's not working. Maybe switching it to a shout?

I will think about other ways to start the urination.

Thank you!

My preference regarding the widgets would be a lot like how iNeed handles them (or at least, how I set up iNeed): small widgets on one of the lower sides (upper left is where HUD messages appear, upper right is usually where things like Matter of Time go), colour and opacity based. Widgets at a fully fed state are invisible, once the player surpasses the hunger threshold, they are visible.

It may be mistaken, but adjusting the time scale to 5 doesn't seem to affect the mod. As far as I could tell, the bars filled up with the same speed as on 1:20.

I did not try to different time scales.

To have the scripts to the bare minimum, I only register for Game hours.

That would be why i seemed to get hungry or thirsty more often than 8 hours in my mcm  i use a time scale of 11

There may be problems with the applied debuffs.

I changed combat mods, from Vigor to Wildcat. Due to the mod not coming as "disabled" by default, Wildcat's injury system kicked in due to my health being low, and I got a leg injury, falling on my face while being in dialogue with the statue. Got up, picked the "camping in the woods" option. Consoled in some water and food, took care of those needs, then I tried to sleep on the bed roll near me. I instantly died every time after sleeping (with tgm on).

Increasing the player's health seems to have fixed this (I just put in something ridiculous, like 3000+). Also, I noticed, the health decrease applied by hunger reduced my health to below 0. It was -25.

My suggestion would be to not let health drop below 50 or 55%. Having your health reduced by 50% is pretty debilitating in itself on every level, but having it completely removed is both unrealistic (you don't starve to death in 8 hours) and apparently causes some problems. If it only got reduced to 50 or 55% to stay safe, it would effectively simulate a "starved", i.e., weakened state, possibly without conflicting too much.

Maybe it's also worth pointing out that even if this problem exists, Vigor could handle it brilliantly by not letting the player sleep when not at full health and/or injured.

Speaking of injuries. I got a similar very simplistic idea about an injury system (since I was looking for an injury mod, but all of them are with insane details and script load), which, again, as far as I can tell, should not be complicated (compared to moderately complicated mods  ).

ok tried it for a while now results below

no noticeable script load increase ... unlike the majority of other "needs" mods i have tried.

give a nice reason to actually eat, drink, sleep without it overloading papyrus usage.

never saw a "water bottle" in junk, treasure, loot in 3 large and 4 small dungeons.  did not see water bottle in any merchant lists.  did not find a crafting station

that would let me craft one.  same for empty water bottle.  could be i just missed the right spot or something..dunno.

after adding a few thru console (water bottle not empty) they worked very well.  could fill empty water bottles at pretty much anywhere i could stand in water.

the stamina boost is ok for higher level characters (imho) but would need to be a bit lower for new characters (i think), and this is already covered in the thread.

suggested recipe:

1 empty wine bottle (the bottle itself) + 1 purple mountain flower (as a cleaning agent) = empty water bottle

widgets kept reloading to bottom of screen even when selected to appear at the top (opening and closing the MCM without making any changes fixes it temporarily).

not a big deal to me personally, but other may find it annoying. (if you change default position i would suggest middle right edge of screen ...just my $.02 there)

color and way they worked was good to tell me how close i was to needing to tend a need, and which one.

magicka and stamina would both drop to 0 if needs left untended long enough.  Health would drop to almost 0 (lowest i got was 15 on a level 29 character that

boosted health half the time when leveling).

the blur effect applied and removed perfectly for me.

did not test the urination part (not my thing so i am grateful it can be disabled).

recap - the only things i can think of to make it "better" would be:

a lower stamina buff on the water itself, a recipe for crafting empty water bottles (if it does not have one), possibly moving the widgets default location,

and having it not active at startup (for new games).

have to say that it is very nice work:cool:.  thanks a ton for this one.

As I said there will be fixes and changes for next version.

I will add also a recipe to make water bottles (they can be acquired by vendors. But maybe it is not working correctly.)

Maybe you can make the pee longer? It doesn't seem like its equal duration in respect to the need/full meter? Also the camera does not move when peeing since its a combat spell. The camera roots behind the player I have to use Sexlabs, free cam to move the camera around to the front of my character (which also extends the animation until you let go of free cam). Most other Needs mods (including pee and fart) has it set to a menu hotkey or Z key spell/skill which allows camera to be normally free without using sexlab's cam.

Thank you for yet another great contribution CPU.   Is there a simple way to add food spoilage?  I prefer something less script intensive than INEED.. and this would be perfect.

I know this mod is intended to be simple, so I would understand if you prefer not to complicate it further.  Let's just put this request up as a wishlist item. At any rate, thank you for sharing this mod! =)
