To be, or not to be...a guy in Skyrim.

I'm aware that most people play as females in their games if given the option to do so - especially if one is able to make said female character look pretty. There are a lot more female presets, followers, mods catered towards a female character, etc. than there are for males.

I have a male PC in one of my profiles but, it just didn't feel as good as playing a gorgeous girl. However I'm thinking about another real play through where I actually do a lot of questing and wondered if I should play a guy. Here's why: 99.9% of the time I play a female, and have a husband, Inigo as one of my followers, and some other random follower - depending on where I am in the game it could be a man or a woman. I've mentioned this before on another thread called "Is there such a thing as too many followers" where having more than two or three causes havoc. So I usually end up with two followers, one of which is my PC's husband and more than likely Inigo is the second.

I digress.

Now with SLEN set to a shagging party at the completion of every dungeon I've gotten used to the two-guy-on-girl thing and it's hot and fun. HOWEVER I recently did the Dawnguard quest for the first time and my PC's husband, Serana, and I had some very kinky fun and I got incredibly turned on by the shagging animations. So I thought of how much I enjoyed this new change and all the other attractive girls I'd love to have follow me in game for more fun, but again having lots of followers screws things up for me. Plus, the whole menage a trois is hotter. (IMO)

Then I started thinking again, which is not good for me because this shit actually keeps me up at night. Should I go back to playing as a guy, marry my dream girls, Aela and Serana, maybe keep another wife a home, using that multiple marriage mod, and have fun with my harem? I don't want to play a girl with two female followers; I have to have at least one guy in there.

But then I'd be missing out on playing a hottie Dovahkiin female and all the awesome mods that come with it. No more being defeated by monsters in dungeons.... :(

What do you all think? I'm very open to hearing what you have to say. It doesn't matter whether you're a guy or a gal or what you play. Please share your opinions.

Please no, "Play as you want." type of responses. I know I can play whatever I want. Again, I'm just curious to how you all play or if you were in this "dilemma" what you'd pick.

You could just play as a chick... with a dicK!! That's like 50% of being male and 50% of being female, you're pretty much set.

Jokes aside, Skyrim is about the only game I consistently play a female in, and that's only when I got all the waifu mods. Before that I was running around doing generic bearded Nords with stoic faces and blue eyes, but my first playthroughs post-Sexlab installations were as male.

I think the idea is that you need to have a different mindset, be in the mood for it. Being the more active participant in your game's SL content is actually fun if you set it up right, and you can keep the defeated portion of Defeat if you set it up so that females that beat your dude can ride him. A problem there is that there aren't that many female creatures or animations for them -- you're locked to Atronachs, Spriggans and female Werewolves.

Something to keep in mind is a mod like Amorous Adventures. That one is VERY male oriented, and totally worth doing if you haven't already.

I have heard very many good things about Amours Adventures but, I was waiting to play a guy to do it. We all have our kinks...

Futa is not for me. I don't have anything against it and don't care if my friends or others play a character that is - again, just not for me.

I think I'm just in a Skyrim funk. I don't know what to do nor what to play and I have so many ideas to get me out of this slump and I don't know which one to pick. I quit console gaming a long time ago as well as MMORPGs so I kinda feel lost. Yes, I have many things to keep me occupied during the day that keep me busy but, at night when it's game time....I feel lost.

defeated by monsters in dungeons.... :(

I don't think I can help at all, as I have the same dilemmas.

Its one thing to have nice on female looking armor, and even better to have it on the toon you always see. The MFF animations tend to be my favorites as well, and if running a two girl party, there were some FFm ones in the latest FunnyBiznes SLAL pack that would work really good for two tough girls taking down a male and using him (without the pegging involved in some of the other anims) which to me looks more natural and about their enjoyment and less his punishment.

I've done some male PC runs, either with the Amorous Adventures mod and working through all of the women or with a SLEN type focused girl-in-every-port kind of play... or playa play I guess. Even tried a buff amazony orc gal with SOS package to kinda replicate the best of both, but it doesn't quite work out right. Might be using the wrong body type. (and the skeleton issue of arms akimbo looks really dumb but it seems orc females don't have that fixed the the rest do).

MMF seems to have more positioning problems than MFF does, or I haven't learned which position is what in many of the animations, or just don't have enough control, so I tend to pick 2 females more often. It also means the oral ones look right, as sucking a strapon just never made sense to me, but then I'm not a (closet hetero) lesbian girl with a penis fetish, or a female porn star making a movie for guys, so what do I know?

I like all of the options the female PC gives me, but I have thought about getting some better looking male bodies and facial options. Better walking/running anims like I have for females as well. Or I can just play female PCs and save myself a lot of work. As for the last...

About the last thing I'd want is a male PC getting raped by draugr or trolls in a dungeon, unless there is a much better mechanic, probably in MNC, for swapping in more female skins and more female creature support. Draugr cowgirl, maybe (and I think there is 1, now). No matter what though, I don't think there can be a hot female troll in the Skyrim zooology, and if there was, I'm still at the "download gigs of new art, or just play a female like I have been" stage.

When I've played my male PCs I am just more controlling over where I go, what I do, and have a more constrained play goal. More humans than humanoids, More intimidates and fewer choices of a sex bribe (because all of the spoken text for guards is male, so not even the feminized leveled lists help). And pretty much seducing anyone single or unhappily married, and a few others I decide I'm going to peal away from their idiot husbands.

I could be off base but you strike me as the type who likes to play just one character for a loooong time. Personally, I tend to be something of an alt-aholic. I make a LOT of characters, spend hours tinkering with them to get them to where their looks alone tell me something about what they're like personality-wise, then make some more. While it does mean that I spend a lot of time making characters rather than playing them, by the time I'm good and ready to get into the meat of a game, I've got a nice selection to choose from, each with his or her own personality and basic head canon storyline.

Even though you asked us not to say it, I'm going to suggest that you follow your gut feeling and play what you feel like playing AT THAT MOMENT. Make a bunch of characters, just leave them wherever Alternate Start: LAL dumps them at level 1. When you feel like playing that hot little Bosmer assassin type, sneaking around on her own with a bow or picking pockets for fun, then she'll be there for you to pick up. If you feel like playing your "main" with her hubby and Inigo follower, no problem. She's not going anywhere. If you want to play a random khajit mage just starting out at the college, knock yourself out. Have a lot of available characters. Then, when you get urges to try playing as a guy, you won't have to sit there not playing anything because you feel conflicted. You can just switch to a guy, try him out for a couple of hours, and see where his story takes you. You might find you don't like it, or you could find the dynamics really grab your imagination. Regardless, you don't really lose anything for trying him out.

As an artist I can tell you that after a while working on the same piece can bore the shit out of you. If you don't allow yourself to work on something else when the urge strikes you, you'll not only be unhappy but you'll start to resent the piece you've been concentrating on so long. Don't lose anymore sleep, just try out what you're curious to try.

I'm the same way. When I play a male I NEED to be a dominant character. My guy is a total pimp, rapist, and even with a high speechcraft skill, shags all the ladies. I feel like he's there to protect his followers rather than they are there to help him.

On the contrary, I'm a MAJOR alt-aholic. I have dozens of profiles. I haven't touched my main in a long time because I've had so many ideas for whatever kink I had at the moment and rolled with it for a week or so. But, I miss the main play through.

Sadly the animations for MFF are limited, that is true, and I would really miss the assaults on my main female PC. And I do prefer playing submissive.... let's face it, I'm in a rut.

I would have no problem playing as a dude, but the 360' walk i have through UNBP only works on females characters so I dont like that when I play males they cant run towards the camera...and I hate that while female characters have dozens of mods to change the vanilla blocky crap animations (i.e. running, walking) the male characters are pretty much left to the original animations. I am not saying there are not better available, I just do not know where to find them.  Can anyone point me to a 360' animation, and some others that improve the run, walk animations so when I roll a dude toon he does not look like he has a stick up his ass?  There is no grace or athleticism to the male animations is Skyrim...Think of Golden State Warriors guard Steph Curry. That is the animation I want.

People may think that  "Oh, Steph Curry is small like me, that's why he is so fluid and quick, I can relate to him, and maybe I could be like him"

     -WRONG-

Steph is 6'3", maybe 6"4" tall  and weighs 220 lbs at least...he was raised to play basketball by his father Dell Curry, one of the best shooters in NBA history...he aint nothing like most of you, and he damn sure aint like me... he is still graceful, quick and fluid. That is what I want. Not some caveman Conan dude.

So if anyone knows any animations for males that improve on the vanilla and allow 360' movement I would truly appreciate it.

I'm honestly in the same place as you. For Skyrim there's a lot I wanna try, and I wind up making a decent character and never actually playing them. I guess it's burnout we're experiencing.

Too bad there's nothing really like Skyrim to actually try and 'refresh' yourself with. I was looking forward to FO4, and while I loved the gameplay, personally appreciated the new dialogue wheel and character direction, it does wind up being kind of limiting for mods and mod design.

I used to have a lot of problems playing as a male character, and not for the reasons you may think. Like I literally had problems. Stability, t-pose, random pc thinking he was a girl animations. Mostly it was stability issues. Strange thing was, I could use the exact same setup that work if my PC was a lady, but start a new game and make a guy, five minutes pass the LAL room and bam! CTD.

So I gave up on guys for a long time. Then on a someone posted a tread about how messed up it was that people made female characters and played them getting raped. Asked why people liked that, and if you're into rape shouldn't you want to be a guy raping girls, not a girl getting raped by guys. Now I do have a succubus character that indiscriminately rape everything to death, I mean everything, guys girls, hell if she can mount it even dragons aren't safe from her.

While I didn't agree with the OP of that thread's line of thought (i.e. its wrong to want to be raped and ok to want to rape, a little backwards if you ask me) the thread got me thinking and I made a guy. And for some miraculous reason that to this day still befuddles me, it's stable as can be. So naturally, i went strait to that bandit camp near Rorikstad (sp?) proceeded to kill all the guys, and once I'd knocked down the female chief had my way with her. And for some reason, I just couldn't get into it. She was using the same crying voice that I've heard a dozen time when me succubus does that to females, but for some reason, I actually felt bad for her. Like, I've probably killed this NPC, maybe even raped her a dozen times before, but that was always as a female, and now raping her as a male kinda made me sick.

After that I didn't play that guy again, and haven't made a new guy yet.

I have no idea what that says for me physiologically, probably something about being able to relate to the male character and him raping girls and how deplorable I see that in real life and myself being a guy, just kind of wanting to kill my own character.

Hmmm....that got off topic. And now I realize I've in no way helped you, or constructively contributed to your post. Well.... yeah.

Good for you! Everything that happens in game is a little more amusing that way. Plus CTDs don't frustrate you as much.

I'm 99% exclusively male character player. I play in first person all the time (I just cannot stand third person in TES) so I've never been one to sit around and make a character physically appear the way I want them to because I almost never see them. I have no interest in taking a long time to make a good looking female that I'll never see.

Most of my mods are based around making female NPCs look better, so I have all of these buxom, attractive women folk around and just generic lookin' male NPCs which I have no real interest in seeing in action. I find lesbian sex to be extremely fucking boring to look at, dildos do less than nothing for me and I very much dislike futa, so I have no reason at all to use a female character when it comes to sex.

There's a whole bunch of mods for slavery and such, but it's almost always the player character who is a slave and is almost always locked to a female character. I find this dull and would rather be the one doing all of this to others... so again, no real reason to play as a woman for me.

I'd play as a guy more often if there were more sexlab mods catering to tastes. But as things stand most mods are centered around women.

I read that post, made a comment, then backed the hell away because it made me angry and I didn't want to fight and start problems. I've unleashed my anger on posts/threads before and it cost me a friend...

Anyway, I'm both sadistic and masochistic and while playing as a male I did not feel sorry for the woman my male PC was raping. There would be times where I'd put the chick in a sack, drag her to an inn, and prostituted her out while my guy sat at the bar drinking ale. If an NPC pissed me off she definitely got tied up, raped, and left there for hours on end. Zero fucks given. Playing as a female character I do have a fetish for rape. I'll admit that if I come across a new beastly creature that I've never seen before I will submit and let him have his way with my girl just to see the animations and for my own entertainment. But I don't go around purposely letting every baddie rape my girls. I make them put up a fight until they either win or don't. I tried the whole Succubus-rapes-guys thing but, it didn't turn me own. I couldn't have her be submissive so if she was defeated and raped I used Deadly Drain and killed the bastards while they were doing it and have her have consensual sex outside of dangerous areas.

I can understand why you felt bad for that NPC you had your male character assault. There's nothing wrong with that. I think you just have a big heart where as I just don't have one. ;)  And the point of my whiny/vent thread was to hear opinions and such - you helped me by sharing your stories and experiences in game. xoxo

I can only play in 1st person in FPS games and Portal. Otherwise I NEED to see my character - even with my ONE guy, who's hot as hell. It's not the same of course since I don't get to see bouncies when he's running, nor do I want to. But, I like to see him kill shit and jump over things and shag. Most of my mods are to make everything look better. The environment, animals, and people. All of the NPCs are good looking, doesn't matter if I'm playing as a man or a woman. But in terms of physical aesthetics, the majority of mods in THAT category goes to the female folk of the game. I love both men and women but, there is something about the female body that....mmm.... I put extra effort into making my girls and the NPC ladies extra lovely.

In regards to the slavery mods, when I have the itch for some good ol' fashion BDSM my PC always has to play the sub. What can I say? It's a fetish. IRL it's both ways.  I think that if I were to play a dom on a BDSM play it would be a MUST to have a riding crop. I don't see myself having a male for a sub, it would have to be a girl and my PC would be as well. But I'm very particular and spanking, caning, and whipping are things that I would want to do to her - I just haven't found animations or mods that allow me to do that. *sigh*

Player analytics from developers themselves say otherwise. A significant portion or players of action-rpgs do indeed play with female avatars, somewhere in the neighborhood of 30-40% put it is far from the majority. Don't let post-market content made by hobbyists for fun mislead you.

The only genres where the majority of the avatars chosen are female are ones where either the majority of the player base (life simulators,in particular) is female or comes close to a 50-50 split (MMO RPGs).

I did not know that.

I wasn't trying to be analytical per say, perhaps I should have rephrased or reworded my OP. It's just in my experience, and the gaming communities that I come from, the majority are men (or boys) playing female avatars.

I just wish there was more to offer, mod-wise, for people who choose to play a male PC in Skyrim.

Might as well take a swing.

I've played around, oh 17 full playthroughs, more or less completing the 3 major DLC questlines, only 2 really complete ones where i did about every factions and almost all small quests etc. For about 8 of those i played as a Male PC, married Serana a couple times, have a big house and veritable private kingdom (Aemer's Refuge player home mod) etc etc.

Yet, i got to the point where i got bored of playing the standard cliche of RPG gaming. I.e Big Strong (usually male) Hero, making all the "Right" choices, saving the Maiden in distress, marrying her against her family's wishes(depending on how one looks at it) ,ending a war, and so on. The one thing missing is "Become King" but i kinda am already that in my own little private way.

The gist is, i was playing the general gaming cliche PC and was sick of it.

Soooo.....

I picked up playing a female character. I decided to make her kind of opposite to my male characters, so Vampire, kill alot of people ( though not "innocent ppl") practically speaking, killing NPC characters in cities Is BAD!!, you'll screw up quests, merchant, and so on.

Also on the list, Not really killing Dragons, i only kill the ones that attack a settlement or something, i dont go hunting them, oh, and kill Delphine and Esbern after they're Main Quest role is done.

Yet more than that, playing a female character, while yes she is hot and i dont get tired of looking at her, i try not to be a cliche with her. So, no unrealistic armors that are basically invitations saying "Please slice at me where my breasts are, or at my thighs" etc etc.

I don't mind being stupidly powerful, and shes actually "more moral" (based on in game morality not actual morality) than my male character, for one i usually try to murder all of the thieves guild, and usually spare Cicero, or simply crossbow Astrid on the opening Dark Brotherhood quest especially if i feel she's sassing me, or has sent more than 5 ppl to kill me already....

Its about trying not to be a player cliche , and yes we all think our female PC are hot!

On the side ive written up my own private fanfictions for my own personal enjoyment, and needed a third dragonborn character to fit the work, and so i figured, i already have two males, lets put a female character, and make her mortal, as my two guys are Immortal Elves blessed with all the skills of having lived thousands of years(my excuse for always consoling in their skills early game).

My female character also has a personal connection to dragons, and i was really disappointed with her not being a badass(subjective) in her own IRL story, so i figured, Skyrim's a great way to make that a reality.

I usually play as a dude, there's enough mods to be a submissive bimbo or a roadside rapist. There's enough animations that fit my taste, and it's quite funny when my dude gets fucked in his imaginary vagina because I couldn't be arsed to configure SL properly.

I had more problems with mods not being fully compatible with beast races, but it's not a big deal.

It depends on how you play them.

My main hobby is writing and I hate cliched stories most of all. When I role-play, each character I create is unique and has his/her own personality, morality, and make their own decisions. Some will run to rescue the damsel in distress, or adopt all kids they can (and recruit those they can't as apprentices, to save them from streets or orphanage), others will rape defeated enemies, enslave people, etc. Some are loyal to their wife/husband, some shag shamelessly any humanoid. I usually adjust the mods I use to fit the current playthrough, too.

That said, my male characters tend to be young, pretty, slim, often innocent-looking. No one would ever guess that they're in fact badass heroes or ruthless murderers.

My current character, Dex, is half-Nord, half-Dark elf. He used to be a street rat, and is great at sneaking, stealing and picking pockets, and more than once he had to sell himself to survive. He knows how to fight with a knife/dagger, but can barely lift an ax or a greatsword... Because of his history, he readily helps all beggars and orphans, but any arrogant rich NPC should be careful - he'll rob them blind, seduce their wives/husbands or adult sons and daughters, or even assassinate them.  He loves being a thief, and he's very proud of it, but he values his freedom most of all, so I had to install the mod to make Nightingales free, for example. And so on...

That's why I love rpg that allow you to create your own character - I can always be someone else and play differently.

I've been gaming for as long as I can remember and I got used to playing a male character because more times than not, the protagonist was male. As games progressed and one finally had the opportunity to change the sex of one's main character, I started selecting female - even though some games didn't let you customize their appearance very much if at all. Then I started playing JRPGs and I got to play dress up as well as save the world. When I got into MMORPGs it was an exciting time for me and my female characters. I do write back stories for each and everyone of my characters as I'm creating them - I'm a huge RPer and love to write - so it's a lot of fun to play the game with a story in mind for each alt/PC/character.

Thank you for sharing your story. :) xoxo

.... and it's quite funny when my dude gets fucked in his imaginary vagina because I couldn't be arsed to configure SL properly.

One does not simply begin a new Skyrim game without setting all the menus in the MCMs.  Seriously though, It's a pain in the ass but, I will spend an hour or so configuring every single option, animation, and everything else before I even set foot outside of the starter dungeon from Alternate Start.

It depends on how you play them.

My main hobby is writing as well. :D As I mentioned above, all of my characters have their own stories and I will play the game according to what I have written for them. For my girls, I do the same as you as each has their own personality that I have given them but, when I play as a male I just can't see him settling down. I want him to be unfaithful, misogynistic, and hypocritical. The idea of his wife fooling around (which doesn't happen in Skyrim) is grounds for me to have him take his spouse out back and she'll go the way of Old Yeller. (I did it all the time in Fable.) I don't know why I play my guy that way. Perhaps it's some deep-seeded, dominant, male ideology I have logged in the darkest recesses of my psyche....

Who knows.

Thank you as well, for sharing your story. I love to read how people play their game. xoxo
