afa Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Go on...remove the vault suit...slowly, let's see what we have to work with here I wonder how much of a pain removing the pip boy is going to be this time around. Liking the more varied and colorful atmosphere, maybe a little too much, but I take this over the brown and grey any day.
Kaz Aanh Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 More: Bethesda damage control, nice. I bet these screenies are *official* released by Bethesda.
Jarka Ruus Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Looking at these leaked shots I'm struggling to understand the Minimum/Recommended specs Bethesda put out. Especially the recommended. It doesn't look horrible, but it really doesn't look like much of a step-up from Skyrim in my eyes. Also the Pip-Boy is still an eyesore that I will get rid of as soon as possible. Not a fan of the super minimalist UI either. As somebody pointed out recommended specs are for playing at 1080p/60fps. Add to that all the dx11 bells and whistles, less and quicker loading screens and the fact that they'd rather overshoot the specs instead of having people complaining because they can't play 8k/120fps with a 10 years old gfx. Still looking at those ps4/xbox1 screenshots lots of objects don't project any shadow, hopefully that won't be the case in the pc version, that would be even worse than skyrim stretched out shadow map I like the HUD showing only what you need at the moment, if anything it shows that they learned something from skyrim. I'd like to keep the pipboy for the "normal" gameplay but I'll probably take it off outside of it.
ElectricSheep Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Some of the screenshots look good; not great but good. Some however, look absolutely fucking terrible: Flat surfaces, textures without normal maps, lack of shadows...
RUD3DUD3 Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Some of the screenshots look good; not great but good. Some however, look absolutely fucking terrible: Flat surfaces, textures without normal maps, lack of shadows... and you need i7 and a 780 for your game to look like that its a bad port im telling you.
Guest ...failure Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Some of the screenshots look good; not great but good. Some however, look absolutely fucking terrible: Flat surfaces, textures without normal maps, lack of shadows... Hmm... Some of the screenshots look good; not great but good. Some however, look absolutely fucking terrible: Flat surfaces, textures without normal maps, lack of shadows... and you need i7 and a 780 for your game to look like that its a bad port im telling you. i7 4790K 4.00GHz & GTX 770 here, not wasting em for this...
bjornk Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Well, you'll probably have to use gazillion mods and ENB on top of the vanilla game, so i7 as a recommended spec makes sense.
Nixea Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Some of the screenshots look good; not great but good. Some however, look absolutely fucking terrible: Flat surfaces, textures without normal maps, lack of shadows... Are we seeing the same screenshot here? Because I clearly see shadows, and everything else for that matter. I can't see what's wrong with that screenshot, other than the rusty rim on the left side of the floor looking a little odd.
ElectricSheep Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Are we seeing the same screenshot here? (...) I can't see what's wrong with that screenshot (...) Turns out we're not.
bjornk Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 This is Loverslab bjornk everyone here knows where she keeps her spare ammo, In her bra durr, haha. Thought this might be relevant.
Aria Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 @ElectricSheep Wow it looks really wierd, flat. Im not usually whining about graphics, never really cared about it, but lights and objects that cast proper shadows can add alot to the atmosphere, especially somewhere underground. Overall doesnt look that bad, the hair still looks like a mop but there is some improvement.
panthercom Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Some of the tunnel details look really good, others look like somebody forgot to finish them. Of course, I've been spoiled by all the texture upgrades for FO3 and Skyrim... The ruined houses look very realistic. I also don't mind the minimal HUD; the less crap on my screen the more realistic it feels.
Jayce Dimmer Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Looks fine to me. Worst case scenario? Someone runs all the normal maps through CrazyBump.
bjornk Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 The ruined houses look very realistic. Might look realistic for a place just ruined by an earthquake or a storm, not realistic at all for 200 years after the war in a post-apocalyptic world.
panthercom Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Well, let's face it, if they were really going for realism after 200+ years of neglect, there would barely be anything left to look at. The houses would be gone, the cars would be nothing but rust-colored stains in the dirt, no billboards. Even if the climate was completely arid, you still wouldn't have a speck of paint left on anything. But that would be no fun to look at, so we all have to use our imaginations a little bit. Nixea Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 The entire Fallout world (pre bethesda included) is incredibly unrealistic by post apocalyptic standards, so virtually every team that has ever worked in the series had always used a degree of artistic freedom to just paint a world that players would enjoy. I doubt people would have fun in a world made of dust and cockroaches.
bjornk Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 But that would be no fun to look at, so we all have to use our imaginations a little bit.Well, I don't think the Fallout world is supposed to be fun to look at. I mean, the "post-apocalyptic" setting loses its power if the world doesn't look like it.

I suspect there is a subtle balance which will be fixed by mods. ("Headless freaks"!!!! to misquote Serious Sam).
ElectricSheep Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Man, that game is in dire need of shadows.
bjornk Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 That outfit looks way washed-out, flat and horrible really. Edit: It may be because of a visual FX though (the NPC you wish to interact with looks washed-out when selected).
Guest endgameaddiction Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 It does look bad without much shadows. It looks very generic. I hope it only looks this awful on console.
panthercom Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 I don't think the game designers would agree with you; why put all the trouble into making a decayed, pseudo-50's sci-fi world unless you want to create a unique and engaging environment. The art style is a huge reason why I enjoy the Fallout games. I also enjoy the healthy dose of 50's style kitsch gone horribly wrong. But that would be no fun to look at, so we all have to use our imaginations a little bit.Well, I don't think the Fallout world is supposed to be fun to look at. spoonsinger Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Fresh ones: Umm, wow!!, that is crappier than my FO:NV modded install. (Yep it's modded because... and yes I understand that consoles are 'special'. But in theory the 'new'consoles should be a bit less 'special' than the cell based ones). Was that a joke post or does it actually look like that?
bjornk Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Was that a joke post or does it actually look like that? They might have taken those screenshots on a low-end machine and/or by turning some of the graphical settings down, at least I hope that was the case. I think it's also possible that the version that they've been playing is still unfinished. Otherwise, I agree, it's probably a joke.
