okay, so nobody's thinking along the lines of spamming the damn feature with bullshit mods?

"Pay me 5 bucks and I give you 10,000 gold in-game!"

"For the low price of 10 bucks, I give you people running around screaming 'take all my money!'"

"For only $3.99, I add 2 T-shirts to the game. One says 'Paid for the game, the DLCs and now mods too!". The other "I'm with stupid <-" "

I would a I'm with stupid shirt in real life.

I'm expecting the worst case scenario now, where besides the kind of mods done on loverslab, all "regular" mods end up being sold on steam from one outfit mod to long quest mods.

The future is not bright, not at all.

The Nexus already stated they aren't going to charge for mods, and I doubt modb will either. So at least we have that.

Considering how outragous this whole thing is and the massive backlash that follows (the steam forums are on fire right now and most paid mods are getting flamed) it is likely this fad wil die a slow death.

And what if steam force the nexus to take down all the mods they are selling? That"'s what I'm implying there. They are testing the water before the full scale assault.

That would be really ****ed up indeed. But then we always have piracy.

4chan does make a good point.

This is OBSCENELY RETARDED.

WHAT IF THE MOD UPDATES AND BECOMES INCOMPATIBLE WITH MY SHIT WHAT IF THE GAME UPDATES AND BECOMES INCOMPATIBLE WHAT IF THE MOD TURNS OUT TO BE NOT WHAT I EXPECTED

BUYING MODS WOULD BE ALMOST AKIN TO GAMBLING. YOU'D BE TAKING AN IMMENSE LEAP OF FAITH JUST TO GET FUTA COCKS IN YOUR GAME

THE MODDER IS UNDER ---NO--- OBLIGATION TO FIX HIS SHIT OR MAKING COMPATIBLE WITH YOUR OTHER MODS.

What I don't get it is, how is it even possible?? They are making money with assets they don't even own. Besides using skyrim assets, I also see a few mods which use assets from half life and dota. Did copyright stop existing when I wasn't looking?

Retarded is the fucking word. Plus I'm just reading Steam gets 75% of the money ?!! WHAT THE HELL MAN ?! It's already bad enough that they are even attempting this, but they keep all the fucking green too ?!

Not only that, but have you guys even seen what sort of bullshit they are selling ? It's a god damn Asian MMO micro payment market place !!! A sword for 2 dollars for fuck sake, horse armor, ebony armor with that "Ancient Tongue" sword retexture ...

What's the next step, making you pay for ENB presets ? A naked Dibella statue for 10 dollars ? And how in the fuck would modders who spent hundreds of hours working on real shit only for the love of modding supposed to feel looking at all this ?

THIS is the most retardedly wrong thing I've seen in my short life of modder, and me naive son of a bitch who thought this field was free of everything that is fucked up about game industry...

The interesting part here is SKSE. Their license states that anyone selling assets and scripts made by them is prohibited. Neither Valve or Bethesda can't really claim their work, so technically all paid mods using SKSE resources could be considered illegal.

Better make copies of any SKSE you currently have, if ianpatt is as clean as he looks he's gonna do something about it, like closing his silverlock page...

wow this is shit. the gaming industry is turning worse day by day. well. yea. you know. that's just like my opinion and stuff.

Wait, they're saying it's not actually paid mods but paid "Early Access" ? Hey look at the initials for "Early Access". That's right, it's "corporate bitch ass sucking fat pig disease".

in the end there will always be free sites like us

sellings mod simply doesnt work,

With over 6000 hours of requests

All i ever have got is 1 single donation ever so thats not happening either

People are just NOT willing to put 1 penny in mods

Which in a way is weird.. My races are way bigger then Most DLC of any games ud find on steam for 10$+

Some of my conversions + colors i add + physics actually are better then most armors ud pay 5-10$ on a cash shop in a game

But heck that's how it all started and that's how it will keep on going, mods are Free

I'd never upload my work on steam since id be afraid to loose my 11 years old account anyways

I am the most Unlore friendly modder around and use plenty of stuff from other games so ya not my place to start with.

And ya.. i tried putting a mod for 50 cent on my store for 3 months = 0 sales  just not gona work

Which is why you should show love to free sites by NOT using Ad blocks.. since we all know 90% of yall use it when people do all this for nothing

Leaving it off would be the least to do has a freeloader

Has long modders can get there hands on the proper tools there will always be free stuff because even if they sell it we all know someone's gona rip it off

And in the end i prefer giving something free to make sure people come see me then getting ripped off and giving someone else the credit

Bethesda is endorsing the selling of mods. Because they get a cut. And HL/Dota based mods are probably OKed by Valve since they most likely take the biggest cut anyway.

Pure waters creator has already put all her/(his?) mods into Purity and is on the market. I has a sad.

What's going to happen to those people who pay for these mods when the game updates and the mod they bought (and is no longer being updated) breaks, or doesn't work with a newer mod they want it to work along side and the content breaks their saves/games/blablabla stuff we hear 10 trillion times a day. And how are updates to those mods they purchased (*facepalm*) going to happen, do they have to pay for new updates too? (like mini-mini (ultra mini?/nano?) transactions?)

You know the worst part really is that it whenever you ask someone about skyrim of fallout they will sure as shit at some point tell you:" And if you finish everything you can just download mods and play even more hours for free!" that's not a thing anymore. Now you look at skyrim and go:" Oh that game selling more dlc than ea,ubisoft, call of duty and killingfloor together but its fine because they give the modder something."

Valve took care of that long ago.

Selling mods that require SKSE is 100% legal.

This seems like the perfect moment to thank modders (here and everywhere else) who still offer their content for free from the bottom of my heart.

You guys are awesome.

You can be sure that dozens of assholes will steal other people's mods that are posted on Nexus, perhaps on LL, and upload them on the Workshop and demand money for them.

I honestly couldn't care less for people who would buy mods, if it's updated or if their computer can't handle the textures, if the CPU lags because of the scripts or if they just get bored of it. Don't care. The only mods deserving actual money per download are made by modders who barely even accept donations. Chesko excepted, I'm pretty sure soon enough it's gonna be flooded with swords and maces and swords and maces and retextures.

The biggest problem is the evolution of this crap. Even a dumbass could see what will happen if modding becomes a business, mods will be rushed, people will make modding companies, and soon enough you'll get paid updates for your paid mods on your paid DLCs of your paid game. Not even pushing it there, that's what it is. Thing about it : a paid quest mod which needs Dragonborn and updates every month with a new chapter. THE FUCKING HORROR.

This money grab move is going accomplish a few things;

  • The spirit of cooperation in some mod communities will be replaced with the spirit of competition.  Nexus modders are already whoring themselves and their crappy mods for kudos and likes, now they'll be able to get paid if they switch to Steam.  And if someone is willing to steal content for meaningless kudos, they'll certainly steal for a modding pay day at Steam.  Also, modders will be more protective of their work than they already are now.  'No, you cannot use my assets' will be a new credo since assets are now worth more than votes and on-line praise.
  • The quality of mods will not improve but they will no longer be free.  Mod authors have skill sets and those will not change just because their content is hidden behind a pay wall.  A crap mod that cost 5 bucks is still a crap mod.  I doubt there will be any room for complaint and it will be a buyer-beware market.  If the mod does what it says it does and works as intended I doubt you'd be able to get a refund just because you don't like it.
  • Mod reviewing on sites like Youtube will no longer be reliable ways to get info on mods.  Bottom line will be mod authors giving reviewers mods that other people have to pay for.  They will no longer be reviews but mod showcases with glowing commentary so people will buy the mod and the reviewer continues to get free stuff.  If the reviewer says anything negative, no more free mods.  Think GamerGate and what was really behind it.  This will really come into play once people realize mods are not free and downloading hundreds of mods just to test and then delete is no longer an option.  They will rely on reviewers and information will be tainted.

This kind of gives us a lesson about life, that the capitalist myth of competition for money originating quality is a big lie, it does originate wealth, but it also makes everything worthless anyway and you just don't want to buy any shit they make...

In short, it is now DLC.

Will we even HAVE the paid Steam mods on our PCs? Or will they be downloads that mysteriously disappear a few days after we bought them?

I also think is more of a test and get some extra cash for it. I don't expect paid mods to be a thing for years to come.

Hope it won't. Seeing Chesko on there really made me more disappointed and angry that I thought I'd be about anything related to games. And if a respected and talented modder like Chesko goes and does something like this, who's to say others of the same talent won't do it too ?
