Why the hell does every gaming channel/video use dubstep?

Wait, I'm confused.  Dubstep is music?  Since when?

Don't be so desingenuous, it is music xD Just like the didgeridoo counts as music or eskimo singing counts as music, to each according to his taste :P

It might be unimaginitive, but dubstep is a well established part of music now. It makes its way into the charts frequently and 'dance' tracks constantly make the top 10.

I hate it too, but it's not going away. I'd rather these idiots play without music though, makes the viewing easier.

I love real Dubstep and sad to say, It's going away. Slowly, it went back to an underground scene. Trap is mainstream now. I'd rather hear the screechy bullshit than the Rap beat knockoffs. Nothing racist, because i'm white as well. But most EDM American people can't make good rap beats, you make EDM.

You aren't going to successfully switch, the sounds will correlate but it won't sound good lol.

Society is throwing itself in a corner about what it likes and doesn't like.

Society has a tendency to jump on the bandwagon.  Somebody tells them they like something so they convince themselves they like it, even if it's complete and utter shit that I could throw together in Cooledit Pro in about 10 minutes.

Enter rap and hip-hop. And dubstep too now, I guess.

Being a videoeditor I can tell you, that dubstep (in a mild dose) is often the perfect music, cause it has the power and drive of hardrock/metal without the agression and cliche and it has the hipness and likeability of charts techno stuff. So even the dumbest, trend following people "may" like it, cause it's accepted by society. Trust me, I wish it wasn't that way... I love metal and hardrock.

@ OP: i honestly understand your problem.

I think most people would fucking hate me, if my reviewvideos were beginning with a deathmetal or blackmetal intro in double the normal speeking volume.

i think for such videos, one should use rather neutral and calm music, but their target audience seems to be children with ADHD.

otherwise they wouldn't put the few facts there, but blabber around like freaking Jim Carrey.

Actually, I'm kinda on the fence about this. My traditional music background comes from Punk and Metal but I have come to appreciate some electronica and dub-step out there. I think mainstream performers like Skrillex represent some of the most tiresome of what the genre has to offer, even if they are one of the pioneers of the genre. There are some decent underground DJ's that make for some killer grooves-

Jexsam mentioned 80's synth pop and while is was prevalent and pretty bad then, it also helped define the era and there's a growing retro following that actually taps some pleasant nostalgia.

Because most of the music made today is like most of the music made in the 90s, or 80s, or 70s, 60s and so on; FUCKING SHIT. No, I don't care if you THINK music was "better" back then, you're either blinded by nostalgia or you're only selectively listening to what you want. In all honesty, most music of any decade is utter fucking trash and dubstep, as a sub genre, is trash, a lot like any other horrible sub genre from years past.

The only difference is, of course, now we have such massive access to music that it just SEEMS like music these days is "worse" than decades ago. When in reality, most music has been shit, we just either didn't know about it, or we've blinded ourselves to it.

I would prefer to hear metal or NOT overused soundtrack in most gameplay and let's play videos, but they will quickly go down due to copyright strikes. It's like music in porn - just mute it and enjoy the show.

I don't dislike dubstep but yeah, it gets really dull when every gaming related video uses it as a background/intro/outro music. Especially if someone is playing Skyrim or AC. Dubstep combined with any game reminds me of "get rekt skrub lol MOM GET THE CAMERA".

The day game channels (or other kind of channel) use reggaeton as background music... we are doomed. Worse than dubstep... in my ears at least.

well, there's actually some dubstep that i like, but if i watch a video of a medieval/fantasy game, it ruins everything.

if the video wants to explain something technical and starts with dubstep, i automatically assume the person just turned 12 or 12 is his mental age.

for everyone to see some good dubstep or even beyond dubstep:

<- this is actually really catchy

<- this is the track that got me interested in the artist

<- a real masterpiece :)

but in no way would i ever put this into an informative video.

I can't fucking stand that screechy, Apple Garage Band sample shit.

Seriously, anybody can go to Looperman or a similar sound loop/FX site and download a handful of 'em, arrange them in no particular fucking order and call it Dubstep, then go so far as to try and claim it's "Music".

It's the most idiotic form of aural displeasure we currently have as a species.

Remember when videogames had Rock and Metal associated with them?

I miss those days.

Srs.

As long is not hip hop rap(man i hate that music) country music gospel few more im fine with dub.

I rather see Pink Floyd-Deep Purple-Eagles-Tina Turner-David Bowie or sixties music+soul music from sixies but thats not realistic and in line with todays game videos.

But everybody have different taste so when a video have music i don't like and many have i don't watch or just turn off volume.

You could just mute it like i do. The video won't be any less entertaining. Its suppose to appeal to the rest of the people who dont care about dumb stuff like lyrics, talent, messages and meanings.

Thing is though, and most (if not all) game video makers seem to forget this, it is about THE GAME. It is not a music video. I'd rather NOT have music at all, or the soundtrack of the actual game.

On the topic of dubstep: it was fun and exciting for, well, 2 weeks and then the tunes of those two weeks were recycled over and over and over and... Now it is just redundant for me. At the moment the whole of the music business seems to be suffering from a severe lack of inspiration. Thankfully I have about 12,000 LPs (remember those?) and CD's in the attic, so I can always listen to those again.

i'm not a big fan of youtubers really. i don't really like the concept of someone monetizing a video that shows all the hard work someone else did, and in the case of modder showcases, for free. (and trust me, they are all monetized. even my little demo videos i upload to youtube, they *beg* me to enable monetization for them.)

you can't really argue that we need them to get the word out, because our distribution network (nexus, loverslab, etc) has been in place long enough that everyone goes there already, and thats just where they found it anyway.

First of all dubstep is music created through technology or computers and games are played using computers and console.

Second dubstep too has rhythm and order so it can be called music
