problem with nexus?

It's not like I expected anything to get resolved in this thread, that would be an absurd expectation, but it's always rather disappointing when someone enters a thread, engages in the argument knowing full well there will be stones cast, and then "runs away" after only a cursory effort at coming to that unlikely resolution.

I have no problem with kassandra, and am grateful for anyone who stops in and can have a civil discussion, no matter where else they hang out.

I don't know if I should be disappointed in her or feel sorry though, to be honest, because I don't know if giving up so easily is in her nature of if it's simply the result of one too many arguments with Robin or other nexus staff (or even users or modders).

I would guess that it's because over here a Nexus Moderator is impotent. Over there no arguments occur because it's an instant ban. They just can't handle anything that involves 'thinking'.

Posted

Maybe. Or maybe the individuals are, after all, human beings, and painting them all with a brush so broad is no better than calling every vietnam vet a 'baby killer'. I'm here for civil discourse, serious or frivolous, but without childish name calling and bombast. So it's probably time I exit the thread myself before I join the fray of those saying things they may come to regret.

See ya elsewhere in the lab. ;)

To think of the enemy as human is always a mistake. ;)

Another thing that might help Nexus not be so hated by the people they ban for small or first offences is to refrain from making snide remarks when they ban them.

"You are banned for life because you broke rule number 4--no double posting."

instead of

"Gotcha you retarded little prick! Go double post somewhere else--and that's goes for your snotty little dog and your fat hooker mother also!"

Pretty much this. It shows a great deal disrespect and non-professionalism when the staff takes a jab at people, even when the person under disciplinary penalty might themselves be extremely rude and disrespectful. If people are openly treated with contempt, what reason do the rest of us have to believe that anyone working over there is going to have a discussion or be willing to listen to reason?

The other problem is consistency. I know that as a large site there are limits to what the staff can keep up with. No disputing that, and I'm not even talking about why some people get caught and punished but not others. What I am talking about is that of those who get caught and punished, the punishments are inconsistent. What is said about their offense in the trophy area is inconsistent. It ends up just being easier to be a leech and not participate because you never know when someone wielding a banhammer and having a bad day might choose to interpret your posts the wrong way.

A lot of this boils down to two things that many of us want from the Nexus but know we're never going to get: respect and consistent rules so that we know where the line is and can avoid crossing it. I don't think that's too much to ask.

honestly' date=' i havent read the forum rules over there on the nexus - i just kept by the rules i know from over 90% of the forums and other platforms on the net.

-be polite, dont insult people, stay civilized.

-dont post racist, fascist, pornographic or whatever insulting posts, pictures, videos.

-dont spam around.

so i came along well, but i havent been posting on the forums much, because i'm there for the mods, not for the community itself.

anyway the whole nexus-page is designed like a shop:

-highest rated/bestsellers on the frontpage

-newest products on the frontpage

-some link to contact the staff

-a forum

so i downloaded mods, sometimes posted a comment (thanks/critics/ideas/bugs/questions) and by that i got involved into the forums.

i havent had any problem with the admins (yet) and hope to keep it that way.

i sure was a little irritated when i saw some mods deleted for being rude/pornographic (which in most cases dissapointed me) and others being completely ignored by the admins (which i am glad about :D ).

i already uploaded some files there and got positive responds and i will keep doing so, because their filesystem is great and easy to handle. but i dont bond too deep with any such website, because i've seen whole gaming communities (6th-sense.com, vc-coop.eu) break apart and vanish because of inner struggle and admins bitching around and having their intern powerstruggle.

i feel comfortable here on LL and so i'll stay.

and for calling all nexus-admins names and [b']judging them all[/b] for what some have done is pure fascism.

like just because some turks in my country can't behave i dont turn to hating all turks, because i know those that misbehave only make up a small part of the turks in my country.

and yes, i'm comparing those two cases, but i'm also aware that even i'm having my prejudices to some people, but i'm giving everyone the chance to prove me wrong and erase that prejudice.

i hope i've not written too much and haven't insulted anyone, because that's not my intention and it never was.

^... Lie lie lie and lies ....

This rule doesn't make any sense , do you noticed nexus is like concentration camp , although i only use nexus for the mods i dont care the forum bullshit rules, except on LL do u think nexus care modding , they will stop you anything creative u did and they blame you for copyrighting even when you did the model from scratch that's two face nexus moderator all of them and when you finally have permission they block ur files and pissed you off not a site that you enjoy being a member , a modding community has freedom to post within limits and permission if you got one why not go crazy with it this is why i love LL they dont care as long as you respect the rules you respect them.

which rule? i havent said anything about a rule.

i dont understand what you want to tell me - please explain it.

anyway i'm not posting any mods with content that could raise the thought of being stolen from anyone else and i gave the credits to those who made things, which i edited and only if they gave permission to use, edit and share their work.

i was simply talking about the way I usethe nexus and what I think about the admins. That just because some (or possibly even a majority) of them are abusing their power and judging falsely, the other admins, who are correct and friendly and treat you with respect, don't deserve to be judged and insulted by LL users.

enough said.

DeadSomething, there are indeed a lot of frustrated folks here who have been treated unfairly by the nexus staff. It is only natural for folks to lump all moderators together. Not saying it is right, just saying that folks do it sometimes without thinking.

Now on the flip side there are folks here who got banned and deserved it. Perhaps it was an innocent slip up or perhaps it was a big FU. It really doesn't matter at the end of the day.

You aren't going to find a great deal of sympathy in this thread for the nexus or their staff. Right or wrong is irrelevant. This thread is mostly just a get it off your chest thread so I wouldn't take any of it to seriously.

@DeadSomething, others and Nexus Moderators:

No sympathy here at all. That's why I created the 'I Like Nexus Because...' thread--you won't get attacked there because there you will be on topic (well, not as hard as in this thread):

It started off good but nobody's posted in it for the second month in a row. (I wonder why?) :D

i got that point quite early on in the thread. i just wanted to calm it down a little, because i hate when such things turn into a witchhunt.

its rather like if i got a problem with one teacher or even the principal, but all other teachers in school are nice, then why should i treat all those other teachers like shit and insult them?

btw: last day of school (full-time vocational school)

now the serious side of life begins...

"Witch hunt"?

I don't think you realize that some of us are banned from Nexus for being witches.

I don't post in this thread as a means to advise Nexus moderators, nor to make nice, nor to encourage others to reconcile with Nexus.

I prefer witches and have no intention of trying to reform the Catholic church and definitely no interest in going back to church. My time and energy is better used in participating in communities of witches.

I personally see this thread as a welcome to new witches. It's not to make witches feel wrong or to convince them that they should go back to Sunday school.

So your preaching is just out of place, in my most humble witch opinion.

and thats because i understand those who got banned by nexus admin misbehaviour and i understand that NOT ALL ADMINS ARE MISBEHAVING.

thats all i wanted to say.

@thesapien: read my post again and consider yourself one of those admins who arent confirm with every behaviour of their headadmins and then compare the responses to their posts here - its almost a witchhunt for "who on LL is secretly a nexusadmin - let them burn!".

when you were on the nexus you might have felt like the witch that has been hunted. fine (i know its not fine, but enough). but why ban rightous and nice people from LL and call them names if that certain person hasnt done you any bad?!

[Edit:Forward - I think you might be taking Tom's half-kidding-half-serious, playful nature half too seriously, as well. He has valid points regarding how some see this thread but even Tom isn't being seriously mean to just any Nexus moderator here.]

What are you going on about? We've recently had two Nexus moderators here and only the one who was trying to sound like a teacher talking to kids was punished for her attitude. Even then, there were still people like Prideslayer who ignored her attitude and attempted to be constructive. Sure, one member cursed at her, then apologized. But, nonetheless, all in all, she was treated by everyone based on her own merits by what she herself was posting here.

Even I have been nice to the other Nexus moderator (unless you can't see dark humor in what else I've said). The last thing I said to Zaldir was:

Lisn is the only sane moderator on the nexus? :(

Well' date=' now we're all thinking you might be the lone candidate for that title after all.

[/quote']

See? That's actually quite nice coming from a witch speaking to a hardly known Nexus moderator of few words. And others have even more direct in their civil manner toward Zaldir.

Although, on rereading Zaldir...

...Anyway' date=' I didn't come here to defend Nexus - I came here to read about the problems with Nexus, and see if there was something here that actually needed fixing. To figure out if it actually needs fixing, I have to discuss it with the people here, so that I know the whole story, and not just "I was banned because the moderators are fucktards!" ;)

So instead of thinking that we are coming here to defend the Nexus, think of it as it is you helping the Nexus become a better place. ;)

[/quote']

I would like to say, to Zaldir, be careful painting crude characterizations like in the example above. Could be taken offensively.

And, I've still no interest in trying to rehabilitate the Nexus staff, nor contribute to helping improve the Nexus. I'm banned from the site, so that sort of talk doesn't work on me. I was banned for being myself and for them being themselves, "irreconcilable differences". I'm not expecting an apology or a big change in who they are, thus have no reason to see Nexus as worthy of any contributions from me. That won't prevent me from treating anyone here as a fresh face or individual based on their behavior here tho. It won't prevent me from helping an individual, either. Just saying, 'do it for Nexus' is not a motivator for some of us.

I'm glad we're back on a nice debate. Here have a beer.

Two add a bit to your argument, "do it for the Lab" will work as we're non profit. "Do it for the Nexus" is just heard as "work so that I can earn money" by me.

So in other words: if you are making profit from the work of modders you're no longer a private site and you can't tell in a place like here that you have your own rules and do as you please.

You earn a living thanks to the work of people like us thus you owe us everything you got. Sure your website is done by you and improvement and blabla. Bullshit! you only exist because of modders, the other parts of the Nexus like image section or gay image section (also called adult image section) and the "forum" will probably not even interest LiveJasmin (sorry it's not a spam post it's an example) by themselves and their 3 members...

So yes I'm glad we can talk here about some douchy attitude of the older moderators. No they're not all like that and we're happy to see you prove so with a constructive attitude.

But no you're not a free community and yes you must show respect to modders. Only your monopolistic position now is preventing most of us to leave. We do mods, we need them to be seen and the Nexus is still the best place for that.

What makes me sad is that the Nexus is a horrible place to be. People want to leave as soon as they have their download complete. They fear you, they know they are being watched in a policed website. As I type, I fear for my precious mods, more than two years of my modding life, being banned for me talking like that. I have no hate, I'm not like that, I am sad that the money have completely corrupted your initial spirit.

Nexus is large, very large, but they act like a corner mom and pop shop: 'This is our store--we run it the way we like. You don't like it here then get the hell out of our store before we shoot you.'

If Nexus were an anchor Big Box store in a shopping center they would quickly go out of business with their attitude.
