Thanks for the work on a new mod.

I have a problem, I can't get the bear animation to start, hair up, sex lab creature on + animations needed, I have the dialogue with Tirwin and she says don't leave me...then the Bear just lays there and Tirwin walks around.

Is there supposed to be a troll in the cave?

Also I don't know how to find SetStage numbers so I cannot advance, did not have any issues with the Wolf Quest.

It is a good idea to select Sexlab Debug mode in the MCM menu and then the console will provide information on ‘why’ the scene did not start with the creature/npc.

 

There shouldn't be a troll there, but in my tests there was always one troll, and in @Gristle case there was no troll there. So we decided to leave it be, that and consider that the troll went back to the cave and found mr. bear there and attacked him, and so PC and Tirwin help to exterminate that troll to save Mr. Bear ;)

Why the prefix is VAR_ is something we have to ask @Gristle, because I don't actually know ‘why’ he gave it that way himself.

Of course! We take suggestions into account, and we can also change something (as long as it is not already in mod) if the suggestion is very much to your liking. That's why I gave a link what our plans are for further updates. also do you have an idea suggestion etc? Share them ;)

Well it could be an indicator for why the scene failed is why I asked so if it was there for others it is not why I had a failure, thanks for the help.

I finally got the scene to trigger by repeating the entrance scene a bunch of times but then Tirwin doesn't talk to me afterwards like with the wolf.

Show quest stages list the quests stages set 0 is not yet 1 is stage complete:

 

sqs VAR_Bear

 

Make sure you save before setting any stages to advance:   

 

setStage VAR_Bear <stage number>

 

I think 100 is the final - Completed - stage. 

 

if you open a console and type  

 

Help "VAR_"

Apparently they like to prefix the quest IDs with VAR_  makes me think is a variable. I've a habit of using acronyms i.e. AR_ or qAR_ would had been my prefix for the quests. When you have a sea of quests it just lets me know which belong to what mod. Used to be called Hungarian notation "l_account" would be a local var and "glb_account" a global var, in the DB's I always used "sp_" for stored procedure names and fn_ for functions and table/view names prefixed with schema name. To each their own...

I believe the troll is a normal respawn in that cave. So if you cleared it recently it will not be there, if you wait a while it will respawn. Probably something like a package for agro messing with Raven 54. I kind of expected Ria to send us off to Riften Hold (seems like Bear country even though Eastmarch's crest) Honeystrand cave or Temba Wide-Arm since she complain about bears. In other news, have you ever wondered how half the wild beast in Skyrim get into places like The Treasury House in Markarth and other cities on Aela's radiant Animal Extermination quests?

 

The prefix on the quest id being VAR_ generally makes me assume it's a variable not a quest id, if I did not look in SeEdit or CK I'd never know.

 

I'll toss suggestions out but I don't look what's planned. 😉 I don't like spoilers preferring the surprise and puzzle in a mod.

After sex with Mr Bear, she should approach you with a forcegreet.

Yes 2 trolls will appear in this cave. There may also be a task from Aela to clear this cave (vanilla)

 

You could have asked and you would have found out too ;)

I just got done with my yardwork and was going to see if I could SetStage past this, I don't like to use SS as from reading about this being used in other mod forums, the overall view is it can create other issues down the line.

It sounds like a bug, but how do you try to talk to her? Sometimes this can be fixed by ForceGreet.

I did not have the issue, I just killed the troll 'cause he was messing with the bear the second we zoned in... and from distance. Quest ran fine from there - no issues.

 

Just thought, that there may be some end to the means in the journey here... like Tirwin's experiments does something, like temporarily raises her magika a few points based off her diving into her fetish or possibly a new spell, or strengthens her illusion charm like spells slightly on certain beasts... iow the books she's studying might be for some purpose or use? Nothing overkill though.

I do not think hair has anything to do with your issue... is just a nif model, beside I use those both too - pretty common.

Like I said do not do that without a "save first" so you can load back to a previous state ... I have not had to use it with this mod at all but if you ever do you need on any quests - take a good look at what the stage touches. 

 

(In the initial release of Skyrim the main quest was so bugged around Esbern typically the only way to finish it was setStage in his parts of the quests)

How do you force greet an NPC? I try to talk to her by clicking the A button on my controller.

By the way I use Skyrim SE 1.5.97, Vortex, Sex Lab and various SL mods.

Thank You for your help. I do appreciate it, I'm old so some of this stuff does not come naturally to me having never been taught about Computers and how to use them, just started modding when I bought this PC, my first computer, in spring 2020.  :tounge_wink:    :thumbsup:

Setting stages can create issues. It's a bit of an unknown. If all the relevant commands are on the stages themselves, it will work fine. But if some of the needed commands are attached to the dialogue that you're skipping over, then you could miss commands that set up necessary things down the road.

 

In this case, the following stages are relevant:

 

VAR_Bear 70 - Bear is seen, objective is to talk to Tirwin about the bear. This dialogue advances stage to 80 at end.

VAR_Bear 80 - This stage starts the Sexlab animation: Tirwin/bear. A Sexlab "hook" is set that advances the stage to 90 when the animation is complete.

VAR_Bear 90 - Tirwin/bear sex is over. PC can now make various requests about the bear. When dialogue is chosen to look for next book, stage is advances to 100.

VAR_Bear 100 - Quest ends, next quest is started.

 

In the case of these stages, you can skip them all you want. It won't cause issues. I would try to troubleshoot the problems more, but I think they will all be solved by the next version, which removes the two versions of Tirwin and replaces her with one Tirwin actor that can change her hair.

It didn't even cross my mind that var was used for "variable". (Disadvantage of not having any programming experience other than a few Skyrim mods.) I had another "AR" mod so I stuck a "V" at the beginning (it was the first initial of a very early version of the original main character before she changed to Tirwin the High Elf.) All the file and script names in the mod are prefixed with VAR. It could be anything, but it needs to be unique from other mod prefixes so I can package up the relevant files for posting.

Thanks, I used SetStage to 100 but when I got to Ragnar I had the issue of no forced greet after Tirwin had sex with the Target.

So I backed up to before the cave with the bear, Tirwin has sex with the Target but will not Talk with me about her exp.

I turned on De Bug in SL.

Here is a pic of the Console...

More than likely a force-greet is in a snippet of another stage before the Complete. Usually on a complete it just sets the quest done and people clean up the journal etc... the way I do it is to set a stage at a time - and avoid any fail stage. Gristle is right though that there can be values set in the before and after sections of dialogs.

 

What this shows is a mod did the call to SexLab as you can see, SL played the Anub animation and returned to the calling mod...

 

Do a 

 

sqs VAR_BEAR 

 

in the console and post a pic of the result... maybe Gristle can look to see if an important stage or code segment got skipped over.

My guess was “VAR” stood for “Voracious Animal Researcher” and that was the original name of the mod, before “Voracious” was changed to “Insatiable”. 😀

As for the name of the mod, it was originally only going to be ‘Animal Research’, but we decided to give it ‘Animal Research: The Insatiable Scholar’ after all.

 

The main character was supposed to be called Vivi and be of the Breton race, but was changed to Tirwin, High Elf race. The premise was that since High Elves look down on other races and treat themselves as ‘better’ than others, so person like Tirwin spoils their ‘superiority or excellence’. There is a foreshadowing of something in the dialogues, but my lips are silent with it :3

😉 I got the jest of that from the get go.

 

I think I had only ever created an altmer DB once over the years... not to generalize but the typical attitude of most in vanilla is snobbish, even the nice ones have some aire of that in their tone and inflection. Heck I'd imagine not only the Thalmor but most would get upset if a female altmer were even romantically involved with a human race or even another elven race.

I don't know if you've played, but in The Elder Scrolls Online there's a marriage of Female Altmer and male Nord (what?!).  Male Khajiit and Female human, Lesbian Nords.

Oh, I'm just saying of all the races in general attitude who appear to be self-absorbed, high and mighty and bigoted in general it's Altmer, even the altmer farmers tend to somehow seem to be speaking down to the DB even when being gracious - like a back-handed compliment. 🙂

 

You know, I typically build a female Nord DB most the time, and she normally marries a Nord female, usually Serana most the time unless I add in some other female with as much dialog and character in her. Dialog goes a long way, nobody wants a boring spouse. 😉
