Indeed this game is already doomed....... I don't understand why they had to follow the stupid mmo route on setting the things....Why just don't keep the skyrim system and improve at bit'?

But not... Better fill the game with mmo's nonsense...mechanics....

Blah.... They really expect with pay a fee to play this.....CRAP?

Hell no!

I'm not sure what you mean by "By definition you can only role play with a human." Are you saying you don't think you a person can role play as a non human character?

Sorry!   What I meant is you can only roleplay with another real human player behind the screen.

Roleplay is when you act according to the character you're impersonating. The computer doesn't know I click like a frantic manic through dialog, scratch balls when having a romantic proposal or laughing maniacally at his proposal for alliance... So until they become semi-sentient (shhh it's on its way); you simply can't.

I agree we are all deceived by the wrong appellation: mmoRPg, it's a MMOAG, adventure game. You don't act, you don't play, you don't use your talent as an actor like you do on a good old paper and dice game.

You could try amongst your guild for example though. I know I did and I've seen other do but 12YO kiddie will just want to level and noob you ruining it, no matter what.

Yes that does make sense to me.

By the way just tried to play as my orc to discover the main quest for the Daggerfall Covenant is still broken. Like it has been for the last 2 betas in a row. Nice one guys I was willing to give you the benefit of the doubt since I am a fan of the mmo genre and we are still in beta but with a £50 entry price and and an additional £15 per month after that combined with an mmo that feels designed for the market of 2004 not 2014 my (and I suspect others) aren't going to bother, particularly if Zenimax don't think fixing fixing show stopping bugs like this one related to summoning the so called "abomination of fear" matters.

Because this game has been in development hell for YEARS! It may of been announced in 2012 but it had been in development for 5 years beforehand

This is the only thing I can agree was done right I love how the bosmers look now none of this skyrim elves. If it wasn't going to be bad I probably would have played just because the wood elves actually look good.

In my opinion i think its a bit too much money. I mean it looks good, but full asking price plus monthly subscription...eh. Not my cup of tea, BUT thats just me, im sure others would be fine with it.

Two moments in the opening hour were so awful I had to walk away from the screen. The first was the gratuitous appearance of a blithering John Cleese, as a character wearing a pot on his head because WACKY! IT’S JOHN CLEESE FROM OFF OF THE MONTY PYTHONS, REMEMBER! LOOK! A POT ON HIS HEAD! Bleaurgh. The second occurred when someone emphatically informed me,

“You’re important, and everyone and everything we’ve ever loved is in danger.”

That’s not a parody – that’s word for word what is said.

Every cliché is in place. Your guide once alive again is a mysterious, shady figure you’re not quite sure if you can trust. In one town you meet the SHOUTY LEADER MAN WHO SHOUTS, and then the weepy lady whose husband got eaten by spiders or whatever. To give credit, a lot of the powerful, leader characters are women, but none has anything interesting to say. They’re cardboard, speaking in cardboard.

I've played it and it really feels like a low budget version of the Skyrim.

Its like they put their entire money into the voice acting.

Let's not even start about voiice acting!!!

It's annoying, I read a lot faster than they speak and the extra delay, cost and work totally doesn't worth it.

I was asked several time why I didn't voiced CLS. Are you mad??? Mods voiced by non pro sound redneck like hell. Besides, it would have taken months, tons of files and test and will work only in one language... NO!

Don't get me wrong, voicing is good for redundant stuff, like guard fight etc. But voicing absolutely every quest... That's just eating the budget. Plus you know, you'll have to do it in every language...

IIRC there was always a part of the fans of TES ever since Morowind that actually liked the idea of either COOP-Play (don't see any reason for that, if you ask me) or the TES-World as an MMO.

And I have to say, the world of TES is actually a wonderful place for an MMO....or rather would have been back in the days (I was never part of these, mind you) when MMOs still had a stronger focus on the RPG-part. Which, naturally, is more a matter of teh people willing to play along than things like engines, quests and game mechanics (to a certain degree at least)

Is TESO really doomed? I cannot say. According to the raging crowds of the internet Star Wars Old Republic is doomed since the last two years, and its still around. So I guess the only thing save to say is: TESO as a F2P-free (?) MMO is doomed.

I'll actually wait and see how things develop. I mean, TESO gets such a massive anti-hype now its almost funny and sad at teh same time (quite similar to Old Republic actually), while other games that got hyped to death are gone with the wind already...

The "limited edition pre-order" bonus is the imperial race.

Yep.

If you want to play as an imperial in this game you have to buy the "imperial edition" pre-order for an extra $20.

Play as an Imperial - Become an Imperial and play in any Alliance. Gain unique bonuses, crafting styles, gear, and more

Even if the game itself somehow looked good, this is an ill omen.

You will never play as an Imperial unless you pay $20 right now before release.

Well, not until they open it up again for more money, probably 1-2 months after release.
This game has a monthly subscription fee, by the way.

This pisses me off beyond reason.

This one thing invalidates every legitimate reason I could come up with as to why all the other races are faction locked. This destroys the idea of faction recognizability by offering a race that can look the same across all three. There's no other acceptable reason, in game or in lore, to lock races to factions. They're omitted a critical facet to part of what made previous TES games so much fun, and they have no remaining excuse as to why. It was a reasoning I could accept and now it's rendered moot.

Damnit ESO I'm doing everything I can to see things from an objective, moderate, neutral position unlike so many of these fanboy-goggle wearing bile-spewing idiots, but you're making it really hard to find anything defensible.

And most important this game don't respect the Tes lores at all even the places are totally different from how are described in the lores...."Gothowind is a nice example bleeeh"

Indeed would be interesting to have a tamriel online game....But this is not even tamriel....

Yeah that's why i'll probably skip it for now.

I do want to try it, form my own opinion on it, but asking me to plop down $80 USD to get the full game (and more likely 80€ in my case), knowing full well that it has a $15 USD monthly subscription fee ontop of that.. sorry, you have priced yourselves out of the market for anything but die-hard fans, that is simply asking to much.

Especially considdering that the gaming public knows practically nothing about this title (unless they were in the beta). There's been a full press and beta embargo in place untill a few days ago, and almost no official promotional material has been released about it (there's not even a "media" section with some screenshots on their official site). And you want us to plop down 80 buxlol on blind faith alone in this thing?

And that's to speak nothing of the concerns this pre-order bonus malarky raises in the first place. You are already double-dipping with both a full-price retail release and a full-price subfee, and what, that wasen't enough? You need to tripple-dip this bastard with a 20 dollar Day-0 preorder DLC?

A Day-0 preorder DLC that draws into question the whole faction-lock nonsense no less. If you're both willing to stoop to the level of Day-0 DLC, and break the rules you set up for the game for those who paid extra, then what exactly can we expect to see in the future? This is painting a pretty worrying picture of what their buisness model for this game might be.

They are going to need a free-trial version or something, anything, the barrier to entry is just way to high. Well that, or it needs to go free-to-play, which it very well might a few months down the line given current MMO trends.

I want to like you TESO, i want to give you a fair go, but you'll have to give me something to work with here, i'm not dropping 80 bux on a game sight unseen, that's simply not going to happen.

Posted

There needs to be another option " Will consider when it goes free" Or "I bet the P2P model will stay for xxx months."

That Angry Joe impressions is pretty spot on. It's funny, the floaty combat and lack of collision is easier to forgive with a theme park MMO, it's a convention we all seem to just put up with, maybe have a bit of a grumble about, but we still take what they give us and say thanks.

But because it's got TES written all over it I just can't get past it. When I watch that video and even accepting that it's not fair to compare single player tech with massively multiplayer stuff,  it just looks plain primitive. I just don't want to play that game.

We shouldn't be paying the sort of money they're demanding and put up with late 90s  shonky gameplay mechanics anymore, not when we can't mod it up it's ass until it plays right.

I'm not even reserving judgement on this one, it's a polished turd like others before it, and I'm done with the snake oil.. Zenimax should have just held up their hands and said "yeah, we took an almost sacred gaming property and  we've made another one of those games out of it, you know, the kind you've played over and over again. Sorry and all that, we'll go straight to FTP, that do ya?"

Yeah maybe Zenimax, if I'm not busy doing something else, like getting a boil lanced.

Every MMO out there has taken the same kind of beating this one is and there are still enough fans to play them. I've pretty much seen the exact same ton of crap thrown on top of WoW, EvE, etc. etc. but it usually calmed to a distant roar. and even the same ton of crap has been poured on Morrowind, Oblivion, FO3, FONV, Skyrim but the fans still play the shit out of them and will continue to. If zenimax has any plans to keep this game afloat they'll put more polish on the turd, but honestly, I doubt there is a game company out there that would be able to conceive, develop and deliver a game that would not get drug through the mire by gamers of all age groups because it could never meet the collective expectations. They never have and never will.

I agree... but still we have to mention that the game with those rant reiceved just before release the majority become free to play early...

Example: Neverwinter Nights.. and also other....

They try to release something and asking a subscrition fee.. then if don't work they go FTP leaving some ways to permit to people to puchase stuff to be pro and be a step forward from the free user.....

This is what happen...

The problem with tes online is...

A) screws up the lores so most likely the people who care for the lores stays away from it....

B) they insist for a subscrition fee...

C) TES ONLINE is bland....... also very bad done....terrible animation.. boring quest structure... and focus only in grinding...

I guess that entirely depends on who's defining what successful is. If it's the more discerning gamer then I'd say you have to look pretty hard to find many conspicuous MMOs  that manage to maintain a loyal fanbase for reasons other than it being ftp. Some MMOs manage to maintain a small but loyal fanbase and fairly stable sub retention, Eve has been doing that for ages. I've never played it but I can quite understand how it's managed it. It's following a very old school model that appeals to it's specific sort of audience. Makes sense to me.

It seems to me a lot of companies now have eyes mainly for launch, because most of the profit with MMOs these days is extremely front loaded. Their business folk have done the number crunching and surely know what the prevailing trend is. Presumably that's why Zenimax think it's okay  to charge $20 for what amounts to a snazzier box, some early access and a race faction that it probably ought to have shipped with - and most of that is preordered. NCSoft have proven that sort of thing works out pretty well.

So yeah, maybe a game keeps a small but loyal following of die hards for a year or two, but I'm going to guess that's not really what gets Zenimax's accountants out of bed in the morning, that turgid, thankless job of maintaining an MMO, cranking out content that a lot of folk will moan about, for a game that's already yielded most of it's profit in it's first two or three months of life.

Oh, and that's the point of turd polishing mogie - polish it all you like, it's still a turd, right? Jury's out on TESO for most I suppose, but not this grizzled old MMOer, I've seen enough to know I'm not going to bite.

Looked at a website of MMOrpg releases and their costs, in the last few years 2011ish all MMOrpg's outside WoW/Final Fantasy/EVE are Free To Play.  This one will possibly be no different.  As B3ast1e says, this one is a pass.  Maybe in a year, I will pick it up on sale and play the free month, but not longer then that.

While idea for TES mmo is nice you did it wrong.

I already gave you a chance and it was nothing interesting , it felt like old mmo's and battle system was clunky. I don't care also for PvP content.

And its not a beta , its a fully finished product that people will get to play at the release.

There is plenty of better free 2 play mmo's out there . . .
