Yep, and no automatic downloads anymore ("SafeBrowserSetup.exe"), what was this, a virus in one of the widgets used in the site software ?
ShivasBane Posted March 5 Posted March 5 While the site is now much faster I'm having an issue with downloading files. Download attempts from LL never finish. The download gets to the end and just stalls at 0b/s. This is the only site where I see that happen and it's consistent. I'm on Windows 10 using the Edge browser. When the download stalls if I paste the link into Firefox and try the download works. I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this happen and if there's a fix for it. I apologize if this post is in the wrong area.

For me, the delay at the end corresponds to the file size, so I assumed it was a malware scan taking a while to complete. My downloads, including a big one, always eventually finished, so I didn't think much about it.

Chalking it up to Microsoft working so hard to make our lives miserable for no apparent reason.
nopse0 Posted March 9 Posted March 9 And I just had this again, that FireFox tried to automatically download some "safe_browser_setup.exe", or so, when I opened the LL site. Perhaps there is really some malware on the LL site ? Or is this done on purpose to earn some click/download revenue for the starving LL site ?

And some others also have this automatic download problems (see some posts ago), not only me. I enabled "always ask when downloading"in Firefox, so I see now, when it tries to automatically download something. Your Reddit article was interesting ("People just put it on shady streaming sites for money.", ) , people are saying this are legit avast executables, without virusses, so I guess they are coming from some ad's. But I don't see any Avast advertisements on the LL site, and I certainly clicked on no ads. Edited March 9 by nopse0
anno2 Posted March 12 Posted March 12 I've been having problems with the website recently (for the past two days). When I go to the downloads section (yesterday Fallout 9, today Skyrim SE), my AV starts up and blocks a link from a blacklisted site (it might be an ad). Checking VirusTotal, a few are listed as Malicious. The domain is ht tps://bonita100.site/ and the link that's causing the confusion is: ht tps://bonita100.site/Files/165/Big.png I broke the links with a spacebar as if it turned out that the site was actually dangerous so that no one would accidentally enter it At first, I thought someone had hosted a screenshot of the mod on the website, but today it's popping up in a different section, so it's possible it's an ad.

Raven 54 Posted March 15 Posted March 15 A big Thank You for not throttling download speeds to gain membership resources like Nexus does. I appreciate this very much as I am sure others do too. 2
JDMMk3 Posted March 24 Posted March 24 Been on this site for almost a decade now and it keeps getting better. Love seeing it still up. Let's hope there's a new game out there soon that gets the same mod capabilities as Skyrim and reinjects new blood into the adult mods scene.
Leoosp Posted April 1 Posted April 1 (edited) Hi, I've been wondering given the current situation internationally regarding the type of content hosted here, and the additional moderation responsibilities being placed on larger and/or corporate platforms. These additional responsibilities will likely lead to the larger (especially corporate) ones becoming more risk averse (especially given large fines for non-compliance). Which will lead to over moderation of what's posted and/or hosted on the platforms. I'm currently thinking it may be time to bring back Git hosting for code and/or resources of modifications to the Lover's Lab ecosystem, not the old GitLab which required a lot of resources and work to maintain and system administrate. But a more new and lightweight service that uses the Git backend but is open source and thus auditable by the community, including the members on here along with moderation team and staff. In this case I'm referring to possibly using Forgej (Forgejo – Beyond coding. We forge.) to run the frontend (and/or backend) for the code hosting, may also present an opportunity to update other parts of the infrastructure. Find further optimisations and/or upgrades in software and/or hardware. If this is implemented I'd recommend using an LTS release, a more stable long term support lifecycle along with less frequent upgrades. Specifically the version 11 LTS release series of Forgejo or depending on when the decision is made and implementation occurs then the 15 LTS release series. Though may depend on best going for the 15 LTS series as it has the longest support lifecycle due to being EOL on 15 July 2027. If Forgejo is used this opens the door to community members of LoversLab, contributing code and/or funding back to Forgejo to help make it better. One more benefit worth mentioning: LL has many members with security expertise. If Forgejo is used, those members could audit the platform, submit vulnerability reports, and help strengthen the infrastructure. Because Forgejo is open‑source and community‑governed, LL wouldn’t just be using it — we could actively help improve it. Using open source (or free - as in freedom) software is a perfect balance to proprietary corporate hosting of code, for when over moderation hits! Using an open‑source platform also makes LL more welcoming to the developers and tool authors who build the backend resources that power so much of the content here. It gives them a stable, community‑controlled environment to collaborate in, without the risk of corporate over‑moderation disrupting their work. This isn’t just about code hosting — the forums and download sections also contain sensitive material. Using open‑source, self‑hosted infrastructure gives LL full control over cryptography, metadata, and security hardening, helping protect users from negative outcomes if a corporate platform is ever compromised or over‑moderated. This also helps address concerns some LL members have about increasing corporate moderation. By using open‑source, self‑hosted infrastructure, LL can protect both the forums and the downloads from external policy changes or automated scanning systems. It ensures that users aren’t exposed to negative outcomes simply because of the type of content they create or enjoy. Another potential benefit is that Forgejo is democratically governed. LL could even become a member with voting rights, giving the community a voice in the future of the platform and helping ensure it continues to support the needs of modders and creators. What do you people think of the idea of bringing back an updated more efficient and lightweight code hosting service? Are you having any trouble currently, or is brewing for your projects in regards to hosting the code? As well as making it effective to contribute while avoiding over-moderation by other platforms? I’d be interested in hearing staff thoughts on this if and when they have time. @Ashal — if this is something you’d be open to commenting on, I’d appreciate your perspective. Edited April 1 by Leoosp
HenrikRos Posted April 7 Posted April 7 I am having trouble uploading files, when I click to start an upload in sims i get the usual upload page, i enter the file url, upload my pictures and fill in everything, but when i click to save and upload nothing happens, the button is dead. Am I the only one with this problem or is it just a glitch? Other than that I just love this site, you do a good job!

Franco Cozzo Posted April 24 Posted April 24 Love the recovery of speed and reliability of the site, amazing work. If I could suggest anything it would be to show downloads per-file somewhere, even if its just on the uploaders own version of the page. Overall downloads is fine but it would be really neat to be able to see how popular your individual mod/uploads/updates actually are instead of just a collective figure of everything on that page.
PECO Posted April 25 Posted April 25 @Ashal Sorting doesn't seem to work on main category download listings (example + example), all options are just sorting by Recently Updated. Sub Category pages (example) strangely have no such issues though, they can be sorted just fine. 4
Anon1341 Posted May 6 Posted May 6 Patreon should be restricted from being used as a download link. Many mass content uploaders abuse the platform by hiding parts of their mods behind a paywall or offering only a basic version of the mod for free. In many cases, download links on Patreon are completely inaccessible unless the user is a paid subscriber. Existing mods containing Patreon links should remain untouched to avoid broken entries. New submissions that use Patreon as the sole download source should be automatically blocked. 10

Ashal Posted May 10 Author Posted May 10 Sorting should be fixed now. Additionally, adding this to the site rules regarding file pages due to the influx of users simply using the file page as an ad for their for their Patreon: Quote File pages on LL must contain the actual file(s) for download. Exceptions can be made for very large files or simple mirrors; in that case, a link to an external file host can be used, provided the file is directly available via the external link. Other exceptions are only granted on a limited, case-by-case basis. Due to a potential for abuse, file pages that require members to sign in to another account, join a Patreon (plus other simliar service), or take any extra steps to access the file(s) are not allowed, even if the content itself is offered for free. Circumventing this by creating regular forum threads for the same purpose of publishing a file here is also not allowed. 11
