Interesting stuff. Like I knew the average gamer was probably around mid-thirties or so. But I thought the youngest generations (under 18) would actually have the highest percentage and taper off from there. Also just slightly less females play games daily vs. males- which is also a bit of a surprise. But what's missing here are any statistics on ppl who mod their games- which I think is growing more and more all the time. How would you fill in the blanks?

Note that the poll is just something I threw in for a little fun. :P

Hard to say. There are games i have installed i will never mod tbh. Like Witcher 3, mass effect or fable. This games i play completely vanilla cause i like them the way they are. Skyrim on the other hand needs to be modded. If you where to make a statistic about sims and bethesda game players, i would they every third sims user puts mods in there and every single bethesda player uses at least one or two mods even if it's just a bug fix. So by thinking about the amount of games outthere and the very different tastes in games we all have.. I would they not even every 10th player mods the game of their choice. ?

(Not everyone plays bethesda games till the sun explodes ?)

I'd have to agree with Gukhan, in that anyone who plays a "crashesda" game would pretty much need at least a "bug-fix" patch.

As for ages and genders, I have no idea...lol

I'd GUESS that sims players are predominately female, but I have TS4, so maybe not.

Game playing is addiction and only few percentage of humanity is immune to it. I am not among them :)

You have no fucking clue then. The numbers are out there and they have been for ages.

older people play less,

and women are still a significant minority.

those who claim otherwise only do so because they count mobile trash as actual video games. And if you honestly think that a pocket slot machine is the same thing as an actual game, you should see a doctor/therapist/shaman/someone with a baseball bat.

Also wrong.

only about 60% of Americans claim to be gamers (again, that term is fucking vague), and if you look at global numbers, its less than a third of the population.

Not really a surprise though, lots of people are starving, and , as we all know, you absolutely cannot eat Nintendo cartridges.

Also, that gif is wrong. no sane person above the age of 5 lokks like this when playing games.

Let's please watch the tone here. I don't mind ppl disagreeing, but do so respectfully. I meant this to be kind of fun and maybe a little informative. Thank you to each for the responses so far. :)

Whether or not to mod a game is a complicated topic. First is the overall quality of said game because as already mentioned some don't need any mods to be good. Second is of course mod-ability itself, while some make it easy by giving you the tools many do not. This puts making mods outside the ability of some of us, making downloading someone else's pre-made mod a necessity. Would I mod a Dark Souls game or something as basic a Stardew Valley, hell no they a fine the way they are.

That bring us to the travesty that is Skyrim (don't get me wrong I love the game) but buggy as hell so a bug fix mod. Graphics that were crap even for the time in which it was released so a few graphic mods. Some of the worst looking characters since the 8-bit gaming era, we can fix that too. Totally under-populated for it's size so we get several NPC mods. Terrible and repetitive dialogue well there are mods for that as well. These are just to get it playable and that doesn't even account for the numerous housing and skill overhauls that are out there. Then I guess we mustn't forget all the "adult" mods that have garnered favor over the years. Without the modding community and their mods Skyrim would have died a slow painful death within 18 months or less of it's release.

What most modders have in common is that they're able/willing to deal with the english language.

Which means you get a peak in the younger generations when talking about non native english speakers.

> Exactly what my prince said about Skyrim when he played it. He was very pissed off numerous times almost crushing the computer because of it. :) On the other hand, Witcher 3 was "perfectly made" as he used to say. he player it over 300 hours and never had a single game freezing or CTD. Since he is a father of two now, he plays no game at all although he confess that he would play games if he wouldn't be a father.

Interesting, what makes you think so?

Not exactly sure.  The target audience just kind of seemed to be younger females though.  Means nothing with "sexy" mods. LOL

A lot of the CC seems feminine, and some of the add-on DLC totally seems aimed at females.  To me at least.

The game play too sort felt like it'd be less annoying for females.

Like I said, I would have guessed that, but would most likely be wrong.

Site seems to be working better now. So...:P

I've had friends say the same thing. They know mods are available for some of their fave games, but have no desire to use them. I really don't get this tbh. Their choice.

I've never played a single game that didn't have bugs that needed fixing. Beth just has a corner on the market. I don't know how many mods are available for console players, but I do know the number is growing as players catch on and want them,

Appreciate your input as always, Eva. Prince doesn't mod W3? Hell I do and there's some pretty decent ones. One I saw was a side quest mod for Ciri- whom I adore.

Honestly, that's not saying much since most American learning institutions are kind of a bad joke imho. Some of the smartest and most successful ppl in the world dropped out of college for instance. Not many, but some. Just means you see things differently is all- and that's a good thing imo.

I suppose we have different reasons for modding. I, for instance, must nude them some. Sex is never far from the mind. :classic_biggrin:

Yes, that would make sense. Plenty of mods out there though that are universally understood.

Interesting, what makes you think so?

Paying $100 a month for a five second reskin is something a 12 year old boy or 25 year girl will do without hesitation and then die on any hill erected around it.

Sims is 75% female and DbD is 60% female.

I can confirm that USSEP is available for xbox at least.  Many mods in fact.  You can get Skyrim lookin' pretty good.  MicroSoft slams the door on nudity or sex though, so nope.
Went to PC, and never looked back...lol

LOL to modders not getting any. Honestly didn't think the "Are you fucking kidding me?" box would get a single vote. Unless they meant being incredulous to the question- possible I suppose. :classic_tongue:

Like everything in the world, it all depends on ones preference and if they have fun with or without mods. In  my case i don't need mods for Witcher because I like the game almost in every aspect (except the loot run for the gear but that's just because it's really boring and that you don't get to play Ciri more often, her combat skills were really fun to play.)

and the only thing i didn't liked about mass effect where things that aren't easily changeable or weren't when i played them. Like the god awful endings of 3 or the combat of 1. Yet i played them years ago, as much as i like the series i have no intention of replaying them a third time.

I would even go further and say mods disrupt my fun in these games. Yet again, all a matter of taste and what you're looking for in your past time enjoyment.

They can, yeah. What I've noticed is some mods sort of destroy the balance of the game with OP weapons/armor and such or adding a bunch of items that just don't belong. I pretty much look for mods that either 'fit' a game or are complete gag mods for a laugh.

Like I said, I would have guessed that, but would most likely be wrong.

At the risk of sounding either old or sexist (or both) I have had this sense that:

Sims (1-4) = Barbies (girls)

Minecraft = Legos/Lincoln logs (little kids)

GTA VC-VI = GI Joe (young teen age boys)

Civ i-V1/Tropoco = model train (men with more money than sense)

I got into gaming in 1987, so I never made it to building the model trains and ended up donating all my older brother's (and others) HO scale train stuff to charity...only later finding out it was pretty valuable.   We even had a subscription to "Model Railroader" which transitioned into a subscription to "Dragon" magazine.

While this may risk being flagged as offensive, but I still fundamentally believe that men and women are different in both tastes, values and desires.   That said, a violent game would appeal to more boys than girls, while a game heavy in social interaction (peaceful) working toward a goal would be more popular with women than men.      Not saying "only girls/boys allowed", but there are things that predispose us toward certain games.

Schools are set up for the average and below learning.    Based on my HS GPA and attendance (I never got expelled, only detention but.... skipping school with my g/f was very much worth it), I should have followed a less than stellar academic career.     Therefore, I think that most modders  generally are more intelligent, though not necessarily academically accomplished.

On the other hand, my FO4 mod list makes leveling super hard (my PC was level 10 after doing most of the missions up to heading into the glowing sea...which means everything I face has a red skull on it and can one shot me).   That is what I like, what some would say is super hard, but requiring more creative solutions to accomplish the goals, though... the battle with Kellog was......daunting.  (Basically, I starting running away as fast as I could, hid, then attacked from range with surprise......after smoking a cig to give me 4X damage modifier for sneak attacks).

I stack critical damage, eat some med x/psycho and just jump into things brawl style- let the bodies hit the floor. Did we ever get a good arena/cage match mod for this game?
