Where has everyone gone? (And do I REALLY care?)

Recommended Posts

Been away for, what, almost 3 years now. Reason: had my mod testing completed, major technical problems solved and wanted to focus on actual gaming. Get immersed in my game without risking someone spoiling something for me in a forum discussion.

Visited the site the other day. Opened one thread, read: 1 member currently browsing (me). Opened another thread, read: 1 member currently browsing (me). And so on. Hey, what's happened to the best forum ever? I understand it's night in the USA but still... no one around but me? I'm baffled.

[Correction: I just noticed I had posted a tech support question in April this year. No replies.  :-)  ]

There weren't a lot of interesting or fun threads in this site for like years, nowadays anything remotely interesting turns out a conflicts with zero interest listening each other and making a an actual discussion or actually talk about the subject the thread it meant.

So I ask, who cares about that? There are discord servers, reddit, youtube comments, various places for that type of content, Im not here for that in this site, and has no desire to engage such thing.

This place used to be talk about kinks and sexuality with almost zero boundaries, and was generally open minded to many things, there not really anything new in those subjects, maybe a 1-2 new for the past years, but thats it.

Where everyone go and where are they?

I don't think anyone went anywhere, people here just not really interested to talk in the forums that much as they were before, due various reasons, they just here for the mods and less interested in this community.

Lets be real, there are not a whole new of games to be modded as much our big ones here can be, and people get bored of skyrim etc.. or just drop it and play something else.

My pm-s with people who I usually talk here is still stands and goes as usual, but some people easier to reach in discord, so I only talk the ones who just avaible in this site, but I think everyone here talks with each other as they were before.

Agree. Someone also said earlier that some people left LL or blocked other memebers because they disagreed about something. If they did, maybe that disagreements weren't exchanged in friendly tone and mutual respect. We are multi national and multicultural community and speaking in second or thrid language often case misunderstandings and misiterpretations. I know it from my own experince. Some people here speaks English that I don't understand even with translator. It's not their fault. Eveyone speaks the way he knows, but having difficoulties to understand certain peopel, I rather do no comment becasue I would surely say something wrong and out of context. LL spread very wide in topics which is not bad but some topics casuing certain tensions and when newcomers or lukrers reads them, they are silent becuase they don't want to be involved into the "war". Still, as my wife Eva says: I love this community and it makes me sad when I don't see my old LL friends anymore.

In addition to what Alkpaz said, there is a lack of "new" games to mod.   As much as we dislike some of the thing Bethseda did, at least it encouraged modding.     At its core, LL is a game mod website.   So with big titles comes big traffic.

I misread this as "So with big titties comes big traffic" and you wouldn't have been wrong either.

I've lurked LL for a long time now and never really got involved with the community side of things, people coming and going has always been peripheral to me, though there are a couple of avatars I'll recognise. But ultimately, just like with nexus, I'm only really here for the mods - and without Sexlab I'd have no reason to install Skyrim.

Hopefully one day adult-themed games will become accepted enough in the western world that we don't have to call on those brave souls to make them out of bethesda's bugpiles.

That is sort of saying that hopefully one day, the black market (or off grid economics or many other names) will become legit.  Economies survive best when there is a barely illicit off main stream economy that can supply what is politically incorrect to the masses.   Organized crime exists (in all economic styles from capitalism to communism) to try to control those  economies, but if they get too much like a real Gov't (i.e. go to the Godfather rather than a judge) then .....watch out.      Game designers know that there is a market for adult themed games, but politically it is too crazy to appeal to that.  Rockstar employed stupid programmers who blabbed about it for the "hot coffee" fiasco, while Beth and Paradox and others put up a brave face, knowing full well that modders will "provide" additional content, while they can keep their names clean for that all important kiddie market that is Playstation and XBox.

Of course, I may be letting my Libertarian get the best of me.  After all, the Libertarian house saying is " Maximizing individual liberty and minimizing statist incursions through a robust deployment of the non-aggression principle", with the symbol being a porcupine humping a pile of money.

The times that I stopped posting in threads, deleted my replies etc.. because some incessantly ignorant asshole just kept spouting their utter and complete bullshit as if it's gospel, desperately attacking anything and anyone that doesn't 100% agree with them are just... too often. Just NOW 5 minutes ago I left a thread because another asshole took it over, not granting anyone their opinions, and attacking anyone with a different opinion than them. It (the thread) could have become a really interesting experience, in which posters share knowledge and learn from each other. Instead it derailed into personal attacks within 5 posts making the entire thread toxic as fuck, just like so many other threads.

It's sickening. And it's the reason why threads are dying.

Just a few individuals, as always. It's always only a few individuals ruining it for the rest.

I'd simply identify and ban their asses for being assholes. But hey. It's not my forum.

I REALLY sympathize. As I mentioned in the original post shutting down threads seemed to be the moderators full-time job when I first started looking at the threads. Yes, even then it appeared that it was the same people involved. Sometimes they just wouldn't allow other people to have a differing opinion. Other times I got the impression that they wanted to make people angry and upset. It wasn't conviction, it was, what my psychiatry colleagues would call, "stirring the shit." In either case, the outcome was most unpleasant.

This though, is when I remind myself of my analogy for LL. This is Ashal's party. He makes the rules and the moderators, at his behest, enforce them. In most parties that I have attended the guests break up into groups (LL threads) to discuss issues of a common interest. These groups form, break up and re-form in the course of the event. This is a natural and expected thing to have happen. Sadly, in RL as on LL, some jerk comes in and tries to hijack the conversation. These people are sometimes fanatics for their cause (whatever it may be) and/or under the influence of a mood altering substance (in my circles this is usually alcohol). Nonetheless, this leads to a rapid breaking up of THAT particular conversational circle. I, and others, simply move on until we find another interesting and comfortable discussion. In my experience, only in the most egregious circumstances are these people asked to leave the party.

I have come to appreciate that some people are always going to act like assholes and it is not my host's job to make them behave like civilized human beings. I have found that the simple, natural flow of human social activity generally leads to these people becoming isolated (usually more than they already are since they clearly lack social graces). Once that happens, they usually make themselves scarce.

So, while I sympathize, buck up! It is likely that these people are well-known to others in the threads that you like. Do what I do and what I've seen plenty of others do on the threads - ignore them. Not, use the site function to ignore them, just pretend that you can't read their posts. Don't quote them. Don't respond to their shit. It is the natural human way of social intercourse and the best chance that any thread has to survive.

The only popular threads that tend to exist on LL nowadays are nothing but controversial topics created for the sole purpose of peoples reactions like this one. Why it becomes a surprise when conflicts occur in them is beyond me.

One of the funnest threads back in the days was that Nexus trash talk thread where many of us who regularly posted in there had our laughs bashing Nexus until we were told to have moral conduct and to stop speaking our minds. A lot of people came here to escape from Nexus. Whether they were banned or to be at a place where they didn't have to fear of being silenced. Those were the days.

Yeah, I agree, those kind of topics breed nothing then just conflict due its nature, no big suprise no one cares.

we should reignite the old lewd threads and kink talks, and the old glory haha ?

Ehh, I ain't buggered off anywhere but I don't do anythin' interesting or important anyways. Imma just busy clobbering the house back into shape rather than gaming and I can just knock most folk upside the head on discord instead of trying to remember what the hell my LL password was.

I'm lying. I've been kidnapped by the leftist commie lgbt sjw antifa crowd that apparently exist and run everything here like the fucking forum illuminati or something. Pls send halp before I get Epstiened :/

This isn't directed at you, @Reginald_001.  I'm just using your post as proof that this sort of thing happens here all the time and the same handful of people are responsible for it.  And they'll never get addressed by the staff, much less banned for it.  But it's not their fault for breaking the roolz, it's everyone else's for MAKING them break the roolz by saying things they don't like.  They act like toddlers and the staff protects them.

I am still here too. Though, LL community dramatically changed during last 4 years (especially "Show your Skyrim counterpart thread, that always was my favourite place here). I didn't post much, but, i regularly visiting this site.

Happy Halloween, everybody :P

I have no problem with the staff here. I have never seen them anything but fair and extremely patient with people here. Far more patient than I would be.

Gaming industry is becoming a cesspool of corporate greed and bad design.

Most games will be online casinos, cash grabs nurtured by fanboys. Single player games will be rare.

Many, many people will still be playing Skyrim by 2023, when TES VI is supposed to be released.

There is also a theory that TES VI is, in fact, ESO, and TES VII will be ESO II.

Do I need to say more? You cant mod a online game, specially when its a lazy cash grab, with dated graphics and clunky animations.

Just look at Fallout direction and lose your hope.

Best way would be for skilled modders to unite in a single group and design new lands for Skyrim.

Build the other provinces around it, in new worldspaces, with npcs, quests, dungeons and all that stuff.

But most players will still prefer the new stuff coming from Bethesda and its sister companies, even if it have worse graphics, worse playability and much more bugs.

Its like that constant bitching about "the lore". ZOS broke TES lore in ESO, and nobody gave a fuck. But if its a modder who add some flintlock pistols, then the fanboys bitch about "the lore".

Its the gaming version of 1984.

Do not forget of course the real life side of this place, people who had time last year to do things this year may not have that free time, they may have got married had kids, or moved for various reasons, new jobs may change available time to do other things, there is also possible health problems, after all non of us are getting younger.

You know you love us.

Like a fat man that loves a tapeworm.

I do love everyone that has made this community and am truly grateful for the fact that, in one way or another, they made this community what it is. What I was reacting to was what appeared to me to be a maudlin "Oh, poor me, I'm all that's left of the old LL!" attitude that I was seeing on threads. Fine, it isn't what it was. But, within the rules we can still make it what we want it to be.

There have been comments on this thread about "the good old days" and the types of threads that used to be here. Fine. Necro those threads or restart similar ones. No one (as far as I know) is stopping you.

@Varithina you make my point exactly. LL needs to be about the people who are here, not backward-looking but looking at things as they are. Don't put too much emphasis on my subtitle (do I REALLY care). It's not that I want those people to stay away or be banished. What I want is for LL to move forward from where it is now with, or without, those who came before.

You do know that worms have been used for weight loss (no joke, no metaphor). They are not currently popular but they did have their fad period. People with no will power could lose weight. The problem is that the worms are "selective" about what they consume and leave their host with vitamin and mineral deficiencies as well as just losing weight.

I knew that much. Didn't know that they were a fad though.

I'm playing Borderlands 2. I really, actually want to play a Siren up to LV 80 OP 10 to see what all the fuss about BL2 endgame play is all about.

It's a much better shooty game than FO4, IMO. I could write myriad paragraphs about it. But I won't. I'd much rather just get back to playing.

Lova Slab will always be in my thoughts, though ❤️

Social media only stops working when people are being a-social. It's very simple, When people are social, social media can really add to your life. I know several handicapped people that have far richer lives because of facebook, twitter, etc.. they meet and socialize with people far more than they did when they were isolated at home before that. Social Media has revolutionized life for many people that aren't fortunate enough to live 'normal' lives.

When you start taking it all way too seriously, is when you need to back down. Because of my mod releases, I've had some trolls follow me around, trying to make my life miserable but they all left eventually. Nothing here 'to get me' with anyway, I just ignore the drama wherever I can. And I'm so brutally honest about myself that nothing that anyone can say to me, I haven't told myself already. No one is as hard to me as I am to myself.

So it comes back to the simple fact that social media (any kind) works well when people are being social. It's not called a-social media for a reason. :)

Social Media isn't called political media, so it's not for political discussions. Social Media isn't called 'let's piss people off' media, or 'drama-queen media'.. There are specific platforms for such discussions (also part of a larger platform that we could call 'social media' but that's a whole different semantic discussion). The point is that social media often 'goes wrong' when people start using it as platform for stuff that it wasn't designed for. You know them.. the friend that goes on political rallies on their facebook, the social justice warrior that invades a gaming platform to talk about equality, then starts screaming bloody murder when it is pointed out that THAT is not the place for such discussion.

My advice? Let the haters leave and the modders and gamers stay. Don't mourn their loss, they came here with the wrong agenda to begin with.

You (@Reginald_001) (Ahem) @Reginald_001 (better) are one of the good ones.

The guy making jewelry, I stay outta his way, "leftists" on a non-political (by law) site is quite a feat.

OK Rightys, (Righties?) what are we left of, crazed gunmen?

Others can be pedantic but well meaning.

There are there were, many moderators, 99% of them are saints, honestly.

And...o wait, you mean the "Off Topic" forum? Plenty of nice people in the other forums, helpful and stuff.

"Drama queens" are what make life interesting. (I think.)

No, nice people are still here.

Except one lady who appears to have gone into exile, I miss her, she knew way too much for a social forum and maybe she was promoted.

I lost the point "People left and do I care" depends, the mailman or an ex-wife?

If, during the course of a very long stay here, a person has added long lists of names to an "ignore" list,

it eventually would change the tone of a site.

Ignore lists don't get smaller (do they?)

Nice to know one general reason for being ignored, but if it was something more specific, I apologize (but how would the ignorers know?)

And if people are ignoring me and I'm Not on a list, geez.

OK *now* I'm getting paranoid.
