blueballbob Posted October 5, 2019 Posted October 5, 2019 So what are people's thoughts on what game will be the next big Modding game? Will we have to wait for Elder Scrolls 6 or you think something will come sooner?
Kaisser Posted October 5, 2019 Posted October 5, 2019 Starfield is going to use the same "Engine" of skyrim, so i expect a lot of mods, Inb4 we bang sexy alien ladys ?
GrimReaper Posted October 6, 2019 Posted October 6, 2019 Bannerlord gets into early access next march or so. Mount&Blade had a very big and active modding scene and that was despite the fact that the base game was very, VERY unfriendly when it came to modding but devs had support for modding in mind when building their new engine for Bannerlord, so I hope everything turns out okay. I wouldn't count on Bethesda delivering more of what Skyrim, Oblivion and Morrowind had to offer because they recently jumped on the """Games as a Service""" train with the CC and FO76, I don't expect that they'll want competition in the form of mods if they can avoid it. Starfield and TES6 will probably have 'modding support' as a lip service and nothing more.
27X Posted October 6, 2019 Posted October 6, 2019 Modding as we note is dying by degrees ala paid modding and corporate strangleholds. Streaming will be the end of conventional modding, though intercepting mods will prolly be a thing after that, but the laissez-faire days of modding are rapidly drawing to a close with the exception evangelists and indies.

I have done a good bit of digging to find any other dev/publisher that will pick up where Beth seems to be leaving off and I haven't found much. A few are slowly starting to open their games to modding, but nothing like what we are used to with the current titles we have modded the shit out of. The immediate future doesn't look good for anything new to mod. We are an orphaned community it seems.
EvilReFlex Posted October 9, 2019 Posted October 9, 2019 Isles of Adalar has a huge amount of modding potential. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1112620/Isles_of_Adalar/ I don't count on Starfield or TES6, I'm sure bethesdas greed will destroy or heavily limit modding.
Kendo 2 Posted October 9, 2019 Posted October 9, 2019 IMO by default the next big game to tbe modded will be put out by Bethesda. My question is 'will it be fun?'...and spoiler alert it will be more of the same. FO4 and FO76 are your proof. Yeah, hard pass/no thanks. I have better shit to spend my money on. But be sure to get that season pass when they offer it and don't forget to preorder! Todd Howard and Bethesda deserve your loyalty and trust. ? Not mine though, they can suck a bag of dicks.
PinkyAndTheBrain Posted October 16, 2019 Posted October 16, 2019 I don't think CD Projekt Red will ever release the tools of their modelling pipeline, so their future games are dead modding wise. I suspect as the physics/modeling/animation gets ever more advanced and proprietary (especially for clothes) all the AAA games will become essentially unmoddeable modelling wise, including the ones From Bethesda which only was moddable model/animation wise because of the ancient engine which probably won't survive another game. Maybe if they use Unreal Engine and Epic uses their fat stacks of cash to buy out tools and provides them for free ... which they might. Other than praying for Epic to save us, AA games are the best bet. Larian still makes moddable games, but the top down view puts a crimp on things. Bannerlord does seem intent on releasing their entire pipeline and seems mostly written in C#, as long as they don't obfuscate their code this would make it ideal for modding. C# and Harmony have been shaping up to be by far the best way to mod game logic. The basic gameplay is a bit less attractive to the general public than a fantasy open world RPG though. Also it seems Kingdom Come is getting close to finally releasing modding tools, Warhorse has published a full list of the tools they will supposedly release on Nexus but strangely enough nothing official on their own website yet ... so I'll only really believe it when it's actually out.
winny257 Posted October 17, 2019 Posted October 17, 2019 a good thing it has, if games are not modifiable. then there are no modders which sell their mods and make profit of stupid users! Bethesda stands for me, Upper edge, Lower lip! Spoiler
FauxFurry Posted October 17, 2019 Posted October 17, 2019 There might not be a next big game for modding so much as there will be a next big modding platform other than Creation Kit, that being Unreal Engine 4. Even if games made in Unreal 4 might not have an abundance of mods created for them individually, all games made in Unreal 4 will likely have a few mods made for them, be they AAA releases, Mid-Market titles or indie games.
MaidoLover Posted October 19, 2019 Posted October 19, 2019 On that note. Seriously. Why are there no Monster Hunter World mods on LL? It's kinda weirding me out lol... Is there some kind of history I should know about? The game is pretty huge and has a whole lot of mods, many of them really good actually too. However there are barely nude mods, and if they aren't that great (in comparison) You'd think that's where LL were to jump to the rescue. But... nope?? Idk why, what's up?

Some games just don't catch on. And it isn't because its online only. WoW modding is still big despite blizzard doing a banwave for that. It has the most variety as far as MMO adult mods go. Black Desert Online has a big modding scene, and their nude mods are amazing top notch (skyrim nude character mod level quality in terms of looks) Some people say its cause monster hunter world is online, but it isn't really accurate. It could just likely be that its too hard to mod. The nude mods for AC Odyssey are pretty junk that it makes characters look uglier imo, but that game is super hard to mod so can't expect much. Just as one example of a different game that is popular but not good for modding.

Tho the thing is like I said there's a ton of mods, lots of skimpy ones too, just not really nude - which I'm personally ok with tbh, I was just wondering I mean there could be skimpy mods on LL, it'd be nice to have more than just what's on nexus (although I'm not gonna complain there's really a lot) I think it's probably relatively easy to mod clothes in fact, but hard to do bare skin probably - which is kinda sad, not a fan of full nude but I love topless haha
