Controversial: What's the Point of Gay Pride?

Annoying parades, misguided pride, fascistic behavior, I can't really get a handle on this,

But it did remind me of the controversial "columbus day parade", and I brought along a few quotes.

Give me a minute (I'd screw this up if you gave me an hour...)

"Leave me alone, I don't care either way" is a hell of an argument if you patrol looking for errant trains of thought.

People who wear hats (plural) should take one off and at least resemble someone in the crowd, but

that's just my opinion, I'm a faceless millionth, (looking over my shoulder).

Well that's my badly-worded, hastily edited version of people in enormous power twittering opinions.

Typical smash crowd (Which reminded me of any forum USA)

The keywords I was thinking about came together in an article I didn't really read...It's probably meaty and pithy (and stuff)

Speaking as a member of the WASP community (I cringed just writing that), I find the whole Priests scene kinda annoying. I assume it picked up as a way to destigmatize not being fair and to tell people not to feel bad about and to do just that, be hypocrite. Except there's not really any stigma around Christianity, at least not in America, unless you've got very strong heretic views or something, but priests not going to change that. Also, I'm not proud to be a Baptist. The idea of being proud to be the way you are is just silly, because its no accomplishment. Same thing with self esteem, but I can talk about that in my next controversial letter.

Look, all I want is someone to justify Priests, cause it's getting annoying.

No, this isn't a confession, just an example from the past https://www.thoughtco.com/anne-hutchinson-biography-3528775

The soul has no gender or sexuality.

The Cantonese (native to Hong Kong) have no gender pro-nouns like "he" or "she". When referring to a person, the Cantonese say something akin to "that person".

It's lovely grammar that acknowledges that everyone is an entity of some sort, not pigeonholing them to any gender like most latin based languages do.

See. Gay pride is not about being proud to be gay. It's about being proud to exist, because until Christians allow CRISPR or CAS-9 to re-write the human DNA to "cure" homosexuality, and homosexuality remains a glitch in DNA, we jolly well tolerate and celebrate these souls who have the glitches.

To shame someone for something they were born with is a crime against sentience.

The illiterate of the 21st century aren't those who can't read or write, but those who can't learn, unlearn, and re-learn all they have learned for the betterment of mankind.

So "what's best for mankind then?"

To destroy the heavens and the angels, so that we cherish what we have, instead of making a mess here, be forgiven, and then depart to a better world.

In order to do that, man must be made immortal (read: Telomerase) so that he will forever be accounted for his own deeds and repent for his sins the just way.

Ya know... DNA is what is known in some circles as "the memory of the body". It transcends religion, beliefs, right or wrong. It dictates which color is your particular "Red", because the only color that is the same to everyone is black and white.

DNA has the absolute authority over a persons reality. Not religion, not opinions, not anything.

Gay Pride is a protest against anything that thinks otherwise.

How could someone possible convert someone to their sexual orientation? It doesn't work like that. You can't choose to be gay or straight. You just are.

Except there's not really any stigma around LGBT anymore, at least not in the US or the majority of the west, unless you've got very strong religious views or something, but pride's not going to change that. Also, I'm not proud to be Bi. The idea of being proud to be the way you are is just silly, because its no accomplishment. I think it's there for people who live in communities or have families that are homophobic.

My best friend is gay and he daren't come out till he was 17. At first he came out as bi even though he isn't because he thought people would take that better. He never told either of his parents and one of them is dead now and he feels really guilty about it but knowing his dad I know he would be ashamed of him if he knew which is absolutely fucking mental but even in 2019 plenty of people still see it as weird and different.

Having something like pride just lets people who are gay and scared to come out know there are others out there who are like them and who aren't afraid to be out. It shouldn't have to exist but it does because millions of moronic assholes, even in western countries like Britain and the United States, have an irrational disdain for people who aren't straight.

I was talking to my friend at work, who is a Muslim, about gay people being killed or taken away and never been seen again in Chechnya. His response was "That's wrong. They shouldn't go that far." and then we got into a heated conversation about gay rights and he thinks being gay should be illegal. Polls on these issues show that a significant number of Muslims here in the UK think that.

...Also gay pride just looks fun. I've never been to one but I'd love to drag up or wear some crazy gay bondage gear and go to one. I'm straight but it looks like a great time.

There is no need for a straight pride because nobody was ever shunned by their family or friends or their religion for being attracted to the opposite sex.

I don't think gay pride will change the minds of any bigots, but it will help gay people who do have cunty parents or cunty friends or go to school with cunts or are part of a cunty religion.

The Gay Pride movement exists for the same basic reason the Black Lives Matter movement does.

Because black kids are afraid as coming out as black in case their parents disown them for being blackl? I'm pretty sure it's not the same reason. ;)

What's that movie with Edward James Olmos wanting to do his girlfriend after a term in prison?

I don't really have a point, don't ask.

Except labels are thrown around tons.

I could rant on, something about being born again and what all that means, but again, I'm pointless and alone.

So nevermind.

"you just are" triggered all my pointless non-pc thoughts.

Yeah controversial.

I was only speaking about the fictional movie, I didn't know about...o nevermind.

Blacks and gays are both groups that, historically in the United States, suffered severe oppression.  Excluded, mocked, bullied, beaten, maimed, murdered.  They've existed for so long in an environment that treats them as lesser beings - as if their lives don't matter.  But they do, just as much as any straight and/or white person's.  Gay Pride and Black Lives Matter both exist to try to get that point across.

Gay kids being afraid to come out to their parents and black people being afraid to get arrested lest they get shot for the color of their skin are symptomatic of the underlying problem, and aren't the problem itself.

To the OP, dunno if anyone has said this but the point is to rehumanise and show people of non standard sexuality in a positive light, to foster a sense of community and above all to educate a society that wants (in general) to de-humanise anyone different. Even in my lifetime i can remember when violence against gay people was a very regular thing and tbh anything that can be done to prevent that being the norm again is a good thing.

I understand if you dont want to have pride in something you feel is natural to you and doesnt require any effort on your part: but part of the point is to change the perspective of people for whom it is not a natural and normal part of their lives. (and i use those terms with a shudder cos natural is a meaningless term in respect to human behaviour: As terry pratchet said "its natural to eat your meat raw and sleep in a tree do you do that to?")

Anyway that what it means to me, for what its worth.

Its about superiority, special treatment, and attention. They cannot stand that now they have equal rights they're no longer unique special little snowflakes like in the past. Now they're just another person like everyone else. So they go out of their way to come up with all sorts of wacky sexualities and genders. Like a sophisticated mailbox. So they can feel superior and special again. Just look at those abominations of a so called parade. 10 years ago it was just normal people demanding equality. Now its a bunch of freaks in bondage gear, wearing furry stuff while heckling children (seriously look it up), and the sexualization of children (seriously look it up). Not to mention all the bullshit ideas of 200+ genders and 92389589+ orientations now a days. Its getting out of hand and gay rights support has dwindled over the last few years. It went form normal people to freaks of nature getting off their leash and causing mayhem. I support LBGT people, but anything else is a crock of shit straight out of a Tumblr wet dream post. Its getting out of hand.

Having equal legal rights isn't the end of the story, you can still be treated like second class citizens by society in a legal manner, and in many places there aren't even equal legal rights. Heck, even the legal rights that LGBTQ people do have are constantly under threat of being stripped away.

They're too busy on youtube and twitter talking about how every letter in the LGBTQ can't think for themselves, everyone but them should be censored because they're offensive for having a different opinion on anything including the validity of a movie critique, "women in video games" and racism where there isn't any... oh and how society should conform to the 4% of the population that wants to take over every piece of the aforementioned media and more and ruin it with their rhetoric.

Too busy making a character's only trait that they're a lesbian and a woman and a lesbian and a woman instead of writing an interesting piece of fiction, and then pulling the SJW cards when it's not received well by the other 96% of the population, or the people who were interested in that tale being told a different way. Or at all in a new medium.

I dunno.. maybe if the majority of arguments being throw around by the LGBT weren't fascism and actual egalitarianism people would take them more seriously, instead we have Paedos covered under the LGBT banner and naked people at noisy parades with kids who then go on to teach them about the fictional world where shit's fucked.

I can't speak for other countries and I'm certain the guy you quoted was speaking from experience about the US, and from experience I can tell you I nearly lost my job because a trans person threw a loud hissy fit over me rejecting them because I don't date men(they were ftm, also I'm married).

Also being gay is discriminatory, so y'all watch out now. People within the LGBT legitimately think because a gay man doesn't want to have sex with a woman they're discriminating them because of their genitals, as opposed to their attraction to other men.

There are always going to be assholes. I'm a "person within the LGBT" and I disagree with everything you've said. This is also the first time I've heard about pedophiles being covered under the LGBTQ banner and I think that's a straight up lie. It's more likely that pedophiles are trying to insert themselves into the community but are being rejected.

If nothing else the mass of separatist ideology spread around through twitter, big voices on youtube, and the media pushing these narratives because of how easy it is to keep fanning the flames in what essentially post-war battlefield. It's midnight and I don't wanna get into this again today, maybe later, but you can have this:
https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2019/06/battle-gay-rights-over/592645/

Essentially gay pride, the LGBT as a whole is not about rights anymore it's about continuing to be angry until one side's up and the other's down. Businesses that change to make amends are still lambasted for previous acts despite the change, gay men and women on average earn more than their straight peers but there's still complaining over pay rates and discrimination. Class-action lawsuits filed over normal social interaction, and social interaction itself being seen as harassment but only when it's someone the LGBT doesn't like doing it.

We have people like this gathering steam and throwing garbage around too, spreading this narrative, clearly unresearched(especially the gaming one) but supported by Youtube itself to sell these ideas whereas they've been very good at silencing and censoring channels wanting to respond to and debunk them:

Spoiler

I'm absolutely not gonna screenshot reddit subs, tumblr posts, or youtube comments I've gone through and people I've debated with on Discord.

You might be reasonable but you're the minority, and even then a small voice at that when the rest of the "community" is given platforms like TEDtalks specifically to continue pushing these ideas, that guy in the Games Are Racist video was FUNDED by PBS and he didn't know what language he said was being used and appropriated or that when one of the characters spoke in the radio it was German not Arabic.

The snowflake legion far outnumbers people who want to live decent lives like the normal human beings they are, and despite major strides being made, and life overall improving vastly over the past 20 years there's that vocal majority that wants to keep selling these ideas because I guess being part of a mob is fun.

I cross off two boxes on the LGBTQA-whatever-letter-they-added-this-week chart, being both transgender and a lesbian, and I am the exact opposite of what you’re saying.

I believe in treating everyone the same. I am better than no one and no one is better than me.

so where does all that stupid content with it’s stupid opinions come from?

it all goes back to the old saying “the squeaky wheel gets the grease”. You make the most noise, you get the most attention. Why else are moderate politicians so hard to find these days. Being the voice of reason doesn’t pay the bills any more. You have to get a strong emotional response and there isn’t much of stronger one than anger.

take my younger sister. The kid is almost constantly got the news on and it’s constantly getting her upset.

and yet she keeps watching it, getting more and more upset as it goes along.

yes, there are people out there who live to be angry at stuff. If there weren’t, Fox News and MSNBC would be out of business.

but they are still a tiny minority in the overall picture. They just get all the attention.

Snowflake... what a harmless term. I turn on a debate and end up thinking it is the weather channel. You could say stupidity is in the air. But it is the seemingly harmless words that kill the English language.

Translation- Let the word snowflake die in political debates already. Professors will just laugh at you that is assuming they actually think its funny.

I think it's a cute word and still relevant. It's also fun to say if you pronounce it right, something about flicking that L out.

Anyway, words only have as much power as you give them, if it bothers you it has power over you, same as any other word.

Snowflake is like the word normie, or cringe, or nazi or sexist or racist or homophobe so on and so forth. Their overuse has made them lose impact but that doesn't mean they never apply in any scenario whatsoever.
