Psalam Posted March 2, 2019 Posted March 2, 2019 In the spirit of "laughter is the best medicine" I decided to start a thread to make light of the recent issues faced by our community. While anything goes of course (this is LoversLab after all), in particular I am interested in unique and appropriate meanings for the abbreviations we have seen so much of here recently. Specifically DDoS and SQL: Spoiler And, to that end, let me throw out a couple of examples that come to mind: DDoS: Decidedly Dismal old Scripting SQL: Severely Quashed LoversLab Feel free to add to the list and try to be funny (even if my attempts fall flat).

donttouchmethere Posted March 2, 2019 Posted March 2, 2019 I have no clue what we are talking about, so it's MEME time!
karlpaws Posted March 2, 2019 Posted March 2, 2019 I have no clue what we are talking about, so it's MEME time! I'm not feeling creative enough to make up mocking names of things, but I can explain a little bit what could be going on (I haven't read a report if there is one if someone does know what's happening). If there is a DDoS, or at least when one happens, too many people bought routers, smart light bulbs, remote opening garage door openers and a dozen other things that connect to the internet so you can talk to them with an app on your smart phone, but didn't secure them with good passwords, or the company is run by a bunch of poo throwing monkeys and thing security is a thing that makes them stop throwing poo. People with the smarts to make more money in a real job but with an attitude against working or structured environments get into these millions (and increasing) devices and re-program them to try and look at web sites they (as non-computers) cannot see or really access. This means that decent, porn appreciating people cannot visit those sites because the traffic, like the freeways of LA, slows to a crawl. SQL is the poor, overworked traffic cop trying to direct everyone but is overwhelmed by the long lines of everyone honking and trying to sneak around in the parking lanes that it just stops waving people through every so often (the white box error at the top). So these hackers, who are more like kids "breaking into" a park with wide open gates after curfew, should just invent the next Facebook or Vine and make more money than they could spend instead of depriving us depraved folks our pixelated pleasure.
winny257 Posted March 2, 2019 Posted March 2, 2019 about hackers should one lose no word, these people are very poor sausages. they want that what others have, attentiveness. actually do they me really sorry.

deathparade Posted March 2, 2019 Posted March 2, 2019 I urge people to stop calling people who DDoS 'hackers' they are script kiddies at best.
foreveraloneguy Posted March 3, 2019 Posted March 3, 2019 They don't even rise to the level of script kiddies. You can just rent part of a botnet and get a nice GUI to tell it what to do.
Kendo 2 Posted March 3, 2019 Posted March 3, 2019 Dark0ne liked to laugh at bush-league hack attempts, until Nexus was hacked in 2009 and his site was down for over 24 hrs. $25k to get his site back up and security upgrades wiped that smile right off his face. Ya'll done laughing yet?
DoctaSax Posted March 3, 2019 Posted March 3, 2019 This thread's just about keeping up morale. Unless you suggest DarkOne brought it upon himself, and so are we, somehow?

Unless you suggest DarkOne brought it upon himself, and so are we, somehow? Hackers by nature enjoy a challenge. Back in 2009 there was a 4chan trolling raid at Nexus; no big deal, it happens to sites. Dark0ne decided to laugh and deride the raid (because he thinks he's immune). He, his staff and regular members participated in a thread with the sole purpose of laughing at people; people who had the means to do something about it. That thread and the comments gave hackers a motive (not like they really need one anyway). It was all fun and games for Nexus until the site was compromised. Things went from 'Ha-ha look at the stupid hackers' to the site being hacked and costing funny man Dark0ne a shitload of money. That didn't happen in a bubble. Cause and effect. Are 'morale' and snark worth $25k+ once the wrong people get wind of what's being said here? What's to be gained from this thread and does it really serve a purpose? This thread and acting like hackers are lolcows invites the kind of attention you guys don't want. Is a pointless thread really worth that risk?
Kimy Posted March 3, 2019 Posted March 3, 2019 In the end these people are just bullies. They do what they're doing to get attention, because they're pathetic enough as people that they got nothing else in life worthy of getting attention. And if they get attention, they will keep doing what they're doing, because that's the one and only thing in their miserable lives that will generate it for them. Know what I did when LL was down? I worked on my mods. *shrug*

Psalam Posted March 3, 2019 Author Posted March 3, 2019 While I am aware of the frustration out there (that's why I started the thread) and while I am aware that many people need to talk out that frustration, I would appreciate it if this particular thread could remain on whatever lighter side of this that we can find. DoctaSax has it just right. I started this in order to keep people from "stewing in their own juices." So please, whatever your view of hackers (and mine have been expressed in VERY unpleasant terms elsewhere on this site) PLEASE keep this thread upbeat! Maybe the point is being missed because of the title. This thread isn't about them. It's about us.

But this thread is about 'them' since 'they' are the butt of the jokes. Antagonizing people makes them angry and angry people want payback. That's common sense no matter how you want to frame this thread. And no matter how 'upbeat' you think it is, you're publicly make fun of people who can (and will) hit back. That's never a good idea. This isn't Twitter and they aren't powerless, and you're using a site you don't own as the vehicle to do this. If something happens to the site, Ashal has to deal with it and pay for it. You are at best inconvenienced and that's all the ill you'll suffer. You're potentially drawing unnecessary heat to the site. If you don't see that then 'oh well.' It's not my site either so piss off as many hackers as you can. Zero fucks given/doesn't affect me.
Guest Posted March 3, 2019 Posted March 3, 2019 OK, the thread went out pretty quickly of its purpose. So time to lock it down.
