Reginald_001 Posted March 30, 2019 Author Posted March 30, 2019 Not sure if you know this feeling.. you've worked all day and night on something and couldn't be more happy when you finally finish at the end of a late, late night.. then the next morning.. y'er all enthusiastic and.. it's just off somehow.. It needs more tweaking.. it needs MOAR LOVEZ.. I'm not too happy with the flow in the last conversation, the players response 'so you're just an experimental subject' seems on the spot but... it's 'off' somehow. As I know there's more than enough vanilla material I should be able to rip I just went ahead and wrote an application that will help me copy player voice files to NEW dialog ID's, so I can just scroll through player lines and rip them into my scenes with a click of a button. Hopefully this will speed up the process of adding player dialog and will help me to focus on the content more than 'just finding a line that sort of works'.. 1
Reginald_001 Posted March 30, 2019 Author Posted March 30, 2019 So here's the last scene I posted, but tweaked. Just one minor glitch at the end of the scene where the camera cuts back to the player, but that's been fixed as well since recording. Nuka World After the First Holotape Redux.mp4 1

I have just started a new play-through with Ivy (After Deleting out Darlene) and A.F.T. So far it looks all good as long as Ivy is in spot No.1 and there are no other "Modded" Companions using the Vanilla Companion system. I am going to test out Mollie Goodweather though. I have at the moment, 1-Ivy, 2-Piper, 3-Cait and Heather.
JasonTodd1976 Posted March 30, 2019 Posted March 30, 2019 Looks Good Mate, Might have to do a run through with Conqueror running as well, I think
athoscaru Posted March 30, 2019 Posted March 30, 2019 A question on Ivy's Nuka World quest? Nuka World quest starts at level 30, Will you have Ivy's quest start then? Or will you be stop Nuka World quest from starting until Ivy is ready? Or will we need to wait til Ivy is ready then go to Nuka World? I know that Ivy's affinity is based on talking interaction with the player. So will her quest start at a certain affinity level??? or can we start it at anytime??? P.s. 3

So will her quest start at a certain affinity level??? or can we start it at anytime??? You do not need to be high in affinity level for the quest with Ivy to start. In fact, it could ensure a jump start in affinity levels for you.. as certain actions and types of responses you give will directly influence her affinity for you. If you start the quest at a high affinity level, but refuse to do it, affinity will drop and she will start acting like she just met you again out of spite.. and you will have to regain her trust. If you do the quest, but constantly troll her and tease her emotional state in your dialog with her, affinity penalties could occur as well. It's a heavy situation for her, learning about her past. And the way you handle yourself will directly reflect how she will feel about you, going forward.. and she might not always be entirely reasonable about it either.. just like human beings. 1
Reginald_001 Posted March 30, 2019 Author Posted March 30, 2019 I'm finally happy with the two scenes. I won't be revealing the rest of the scenes, so as to no spoil too much about the quest itself. Dialog now flows completely logically and camera work seems fine. Ivy interrupts the player on purpose at one point and it seems to work. 2nd Talk Final.mp4 3
Reginald_001 Posted March 30, 2019 Author Posted March 30, 2019 MALE VOICE TALENT NEEDED FOR IVY'S NUKA WORLD DLC! DETAILS BELOW: https://www.loverslab.com/topic/119163-male-voice-talent-needed-for-companion-ivy/ Does anyone think that if I send a really sweet email to the voice actor for Kellog that I could get him to do 1 holotape recording for me? It would tie everything together so nicely.. 1
Reginald_001 Posted March 30, 2019 Author Posted March 30, 2019 More on the development side: So, as the quest progresses, Ivy will keep two counters: Alignment (evil/good) and Anxiety (how scared will she be during the entire ordeal). Both will have an effect in her final decision, at the end of the Quest. By choosing certain dialog options, players can either manipulate Ivy to become a scared and raving lunatic.. or become a more balanced and moral individual. The quest outcome will NOT depend on direct player intervention. It will solely depend on Ivy's interactions with the player leading up to the finale scene. I find this 'Mass Effect' approach works best for this quest, making it very much a dialog driven quest. Choose enough manipulative or negative responses and the player reactions will automatically become more manipulative, or outright hostile/passive aggressive towards Ivy. This looks like this: PS: The parts where the player manipulates Ivy, or where the player is flatout rude and dismissive are heart wrenching to write.. and playtest.... Fucking heart.. wrenching.. The part where she starts pleading.. 'Don't you like me anymore?'.. ffuck.. 2
Zanan Posted March 30, 2019 Posted March 30, 2019 I understand XDI is out. Does Full Dialogue Interface have any issues anyone knows about? Some dialogue interface is a must for me to be able to play. This post isn't intended to bother the mod author, it's asking anyone that has tried it and the results. Some bugs are fine for me, its anything gamebreaking during the quests that I am concerned about.

Could you piece together a broken holotape with part words from his dialogue if not? -edit https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0267660/ If it helps. He's had plenty of dialogue, thane for example from mass effect is one of his. Additional to the 48 VA credits, you might even go with a synthetic voice for part of it given his nature, phasing in an out on words you can't get.

This is a bother as items like the 'service menu' will be hidden that way. This will remain like that in the future and Ivy does not support XDI or other similar interfaces. I've tried to overcome this, but the player has many random lines. Then right before you click on a choice to speak, the engine chooses a new line, making it so that the player says something differently. I can't fix this bug in the engine. It's not really bug either, as the engine was just designed to have both a short title for the dialogue option, and and entire subtitle, which doubles often as input for LIP files. Long story short, nope, doesn't work because it obfuscate menu options for Ivy in dialog. 1

Though you did give me an idea that maybe with some splicing of his existing lines I can patch up what I need from him so thanks! 2

It's about 120 lines of memory with a heavy reverb added to the WAVS. Then another 80 lines of dialogue with the player that sound clean and usable. I think I can splice something together from those 80 lines tomorrow morning, for one of the Holo tape logs with Dr. Stein. 1
Reginald_001 Posted March 31, 2019 Author Posted March 31, 2019 I wanted to have another busy day of Ivy development, but was just called by the CEO of the company and am being called into another major incident I need to focus on today so I'm driving to work. With a bit of bad luck, I won't be able to do anything on (or with) Ivy today.
Reginald_001 Posted March 31, 2019 Author Posted March 31, 2019 So I've managed to put a few hours in today. I've been going over much of the camera work and quest integration for Nuka World. I've learned some tricks that I'll be using in the main base version as well. First up, if you REFUSE the quest initially, Ivy will store a backup of her memories (of finding the beacon pointing to the holotapes) and she will give it to you, saying she needs to delete them from her memories as they will be too distracting. If you then decide to change your mind, you can restore the backup from the holotape, which will reset (and restart) the quest. The Nuka World Quest is becoming very intricate on the dialogue end. Even just two counters (anxiety and renegade/paragon) already allow for many different combinations. The basics work similar to the Mass Effect dialog system. This is the legend I use, where X = anxiety and A = alignment (good/bad or paragon/renegade). In this case, questions will likely lead to raising Ivy's anxiety (She will start to doubt you if you ask too many stupid questions), neutral will console her (lower her anxiety level) and positive will both console and give her a good feeling (+good / -anxiety). Not wanting to talk about her underlying feelings lowers her alignment, making her actions more renegade as the quest progresses. By the time that the third holotape is found (during the fourth conversation with Ivy), Ivy can already open the conversation with three complete different starts: Either very suspicious, very aggressive, or, curious and open to learn. This in return opens up more branches for the player to respond to. The player can either steer Ivy back to stability by consoling her, or driving her even further into anxiety, or renegade options, by making her doubt her very existence.. Though I'm sure none of you will be that evil to her. Making her angry will LOWER her anxiety levels, just like it does with a real person. Then, depending on the current alignment of the player, they might or might not interject certain remarks:
fred200 Posted March 31, 2019 Posted March 31, 2019 To try everything - it sounds like we will need a lot of checkpoints... Looking forward to this update. 1
Reginald_001 Posted March 31, 2019 Author Posted March 31, 2019 Ok finished development for the day. Ivy's Nuka DLC now has a total of 629 lines of dialogue. I'm about 1/3rd into the quest integration, but that goes pretty quickly as it's just hacking in some responses into the existing quests. Despite the stuff at work this morning (a surprise hundred km drive to work due to a break in into the office last night by burglars), I was able to finish, but mostly polish, quite a lot of stuff today actually... The more anxious that Ivy gets, the more dangerously her emotional sub processors will overload... Ivy Glitches.mp4 But.. you can also choose not to console her.. which will result in higher renegade levels (resulting in more nasty remarks from both the player and Ivy) and higher anxiety levels, causing more glitches: (Ps: The glitches are placeholders and will be timed better and replaced with more computerized sounding distortions). Ivy Really Glitches.mp4 1
Reginald_001 Posted April 1, 2019 Author Posted April 1, 2019 Back into development, sometimes asking myself what I got into with Ivy's alignment and anxiety levels. What was supposed to be a simple interjection turned out to eventually and possibly play out in 5 different responses from Ivy. Then the profanity filter adds another level of complexity. Then, when the Hubologist cleansed mentions Neurodynes and if Ivy's anxiety levels are up, she will respond with asking the player if perhaps Neurodynes could be responsible for her current issues. I had no idea that introducing the two variables of anxiety and alignment would cause such a cascade of possibilities further down the line, increasing both the amount of content (some of which will likely never be heard by many of you due to the options you choose) and the development time. But I think that I can cope, for Nuka World, and I will definitely see this through. Testing will be a bitch though. I'll have to play through Nuka World basically with all three entire storylines and outcomes for the Nuka World quest, so I can see if Ivy's behavior changes accordingly. But.. it'll be fun! 1
