Modding- as far as I'm concerned- is about a community that shares.....and cares much less about "what's in it for me?". I'm not judging you personally, though, it is a good idea to have copies of mods just in case something "happens" to them.

every sense the nexus pulls mods for no good reason..i have been keeping mods ..and whats to judge? i am, not sharing the mods with others..so its for my own use nothing more an nothing less ..but i see your point.and i did read that crazy post..it just seems its making it harder to share assets with other modders

People are a little crazy with this modding stuff... Some journalist talk to me last month about money x mods and if i think modders need more money etc... I told them what i think, if someone wants a job in gaming and make a mod, is portfolio, so no, they don't need the money, if someone makes because think is cool, they don't need the money, simple as that, but the journalist continue to insist saying that people playing games on youtube etc are making huge cash etc... I try to explain the difference, a modder is a nickname without face that make something with a time limit, a youtubers or whatever is the fashion this days, puts their face on the screen and have to be there for hours every day, and be a lot charismatic to make their money, but all this was no use, the journalist still thinks modders needs the money blablabla...

For what i could see, there is a problem where never had one, bethesda create this problem to justify CC, them everyone start to think that modders need money beside donations, and now mods have a price, the question is who wants to pay and who don't want to pay.

I think what nexus do is a good thing, they made it write in my opinion, if you want to use others assets just don't go in the program, stay out, simple, is all too new, give it time and this program will work fine, soon people start to see how much a DP is (each DP can be 0,001 dollars or something, depending on the months pool).

There is too much "rules" to modding this days... Why we cannot have freelance modders to make exclusive mods? If someone create something and charge for it, everyone wants a piece of their head, let people do what they want to do, like was before all this CC BS.

Agreed.

I've become quite disenfranchised with modding since the whole Creation Club end-run around "paid modding". I remember coming to you for permission to use some of your stuff in my A.S.I.A. mod. You responded with a simple..... yes. I've had a ton of ideas (and even built some new stuff that sits on my HD) for A.S.I.A.. Yet I can't be assed up to finish it,  because every time I start doing something, I get frustrated. I spend more time just hunting for free-to-use assets to materialize my ideas than I do actually working things into what I envision. At this point, I'm seriously considering giving the mod to someone who might better handle it from here on. But then, I find myself grappling with the question of "can I trust someone NOT to turn this into another CC cash grab, and actually build upon what I started, and intended to always be free to download and use?"

I just don't know. So at this point, it's all up in the air. Or maybe it's just better left alone.

I did the same. However, my motherboard's memory was corrupt/ bad without my knowledge. When I reworked many of the mods for easier navigation and coping them to another drive for backup, I had somewhere along the line corrupted them. Well most of them. I have been able to find some of the old mods but many are gone for good. :(

Had the backups to the backups... however, never checked them and they were corrupted as well due to the memory error. ... and yes, CPU's profile pic is a cool change :D

Well, I opted my mods into the rewards system. I have to admit that the idea of getting something back for my work is appealing. I just thought that mod authors would start to get stingy about sharing assets and stuff or start bickering over their fair share. So far, that mostly doesn't seem to be the case. I mean if Nexus feels like sharing some money with it's bread and butter, then who am I to not try and get a slice of that? I'm actually pretty interested to see where this goes.

That you'll have to invest far more money to play your game than you will ever receive for your mods, that's where this goes...

That was already true for everyone. Nexus is just providing more incentive for people to make and share mods. As someone already pointed out, this is a model that can be beneficial for everyone involved. Or are you privy to some information that leads to a different conclusion?

Sorry, but 'that' will be true first, it isn't yet tho, or have you already paid for each and every mod you've downloaded, every preset you've tried for the game you're playing right now? Guess not, So... 'it will be', future tense.

The Nexus model emulates classical casino capitalism in which cheap quantities matter, high qualities not so much - old wifeys standing in front of ten-penny slot machines hoping to get the jack pot, remember? Calculations by gopher (?) speak of $10 income in the max for the best mods in the first years of such a model. Whatever, the concept isn't meant to fund modders but to build a platform to line up the sheep for the fleecing. And that sets in when the price for the ticket to enter gets raised. Easy doing...

Why is the casino model so interesting? Well, it's the model used in free modding since the beginning. It's just that the chips were free as well as the entrance ticket to ride. Lemme explain a few things.

For an average player to run 100 mods for some time in his setup, perhaps some 300 mods or even more inevitably will be downloaded, tested and mostly skipped. Of these 100 mods only a small fraction of perhaps 5% becomes essential for the individual game experience of the player - he doesn't like to play the game w/o these mods anymore. That's normal. Now the casino model tells ya to pay peanuts for 300+ to play 100, perhaps less.  Now that's a good deal only for a village idiot. I'm sorry to say that.

The future casino entrance fee will become the Golden Fleece for the operator of the site, that goes w/o saying. I mean, teach me the Dark One. I knew him already before the coming of the Nexus when we still called ourselves 'fans of (the upcoming) Morrowind' *giggles*

At least you guys might get a glimpse as to why I donate to the essential modders of my game and just endorse the rest...

This model of targeted sponsoring isn't that new in the modding scene btw. I myself was at the receiving end in the early 2000s, and by far not the only one.

It's just that back then we didn't call for or even demand anything. And we've got the donation as the result of the work in game, not perhaps in advance with the latent possibility to get removed again from the individual game after five minutes...

Be that as it may, every modder is free... and I'm the last to stop anybody from doing strange things.

Did you get your account there for free? I doubt it. So you are a fellow resident in the village of idiots.

What account are you talking about, friend?

I became member of the Morrowind Fan Board by personal invitation; much later that board got renamed to The Nexus. But that's not what you have in mind, right?

So what is it, hmm?

Interesting. When did they start charging for membership?

Oh, they'll do that for subscribers, for sure. My sister was a subscriber once... and left like many others with the feet in front.

As a member I don't subscribe to this point of view. And next time you don't answer my question with a question, will ya, my friend of the said village? Good.

Apologies, what was your question again?

Please scroll up. I 'm not used to repeat myself.

In the meantime we might think about drinking a virtual beer together, instead of chronically talking past each other...
