Skyrim Modding Diary - 26 March 2022

Well, it's time to set up our MCMs and get ready to launch Kirsti's next adventure. If you're curious and want a mini-spoiler, I've updated the mod description with a brief capsule of what to expect. This is probably going to be a somewhat shorter than usual diary unless I run into any complications or surprises that I think there's value in documenting.

Interested in seeing the details of the configuration I'm running? I've updated my Modwatch Page with the setup for this adventure. If you want to see the categories, go to the modlist section and check "show inactive" then start at the bottom of the list and work your way up. For whatever reason, Modwatch inverts the priority of the mods, so the highest priority mods get listed first.

Footnote - Late Arrival Texture Mods

Two new texture mods dropped today that don't have plugins, so I can safely add them to my configuration without any risky modding practices. One is another mod in the FYX Series that adds a missing chimney to one of the building models. The other is a milk jug replacer from the same author as the wine and skooma bottle mods I discussed yesterday. These mods are nominally LE only, but they easily converted to SSE with the Cathedral Asset Optimizer tool.

Remaking Kirstia

For technical reasons relating to the change from Project Proteus to the full release version, I can't just straight up import her this time. I do have her appearance saved, but otherwise we'll be doing some work with the console in the AP starting cell to get her set up. Fortunately, I do have her appearance saved from the end of her second adventure, so that part at least is already mostly taken care of.

To reflect the passage of time since the last adventure, I slightly advanced Kirsi's age slider (from -0.5 to -0.25). I also gave her longer starting hair than last time when YPS ran its setup routine.

Next we'll rebuild her outfit. We'll start with the key gear she ended the last adventure with - her custom made orcish armor, her totemic items from the first adventure, and Wojtek's magic piercing.

Next let's give her some gear to reflect that she's starting in Solstheim. And after that we'll give her her iconic weapons: her father's nordic sword, the fine bow she acquired during the escape from Cidhna Mine, and the dwarven arquebus she found in the Forgotten Vale. We'll also give her some starting ammo. Finally, we'll provide her with some starting provisions, some gold (artificially high since we'll be recruiting a follower early on) and an elastic band to unlock basic hair styling options.

With her gear all set up, we'll braid her hair and then get to work configuring the game. First things first we're going to block arousal for now so Kirsti doesn't get super horny during the lengthy configuration process. Next, we'll install Sexlab, save the game, and reload it. This will jog loose one one or two residual MCM items such as Estrus Chaurus that don't initialize until after the first game load.

Next we need to go through a few MCMs that we need to load early by neccessity (basically, stuff involved with populating the Sexlab animation tables) - Sexlab itself, ZAZ Animation Pack, SLAL, and Estrus. After that, we're basically going to work through the MCMs from A-Z. As you probably noted from the comments thread, MCM Recorder doesn't yet support Sky UI Resort, so we won't be using that tool today.

In terms of difficulty, we'll generally be using the same setup that we had in the last adventure, including turning off certain features like SLS Licensing that won't play nice with Kirsti until I get around to patching their scripts (and that's very much a back burner item right now).

Fortunately, we got through MCM setup without any major problems. I sped up the process a bit by skipping MCMs that weren't relevant to this playthrough, such as some of the quest faction related ones. Once all that was done, the final step was to COC myself to a starting location - in this case I chose The Retching Netch in Raven Rock.

See you soon with the first chapter of Kirstia's latest adventure!
