What are you doing right now in Skyrim (Screenshot required)

Banging my head against the wall and asking "why oh why oh why?"

Inspired by MrEsturk I decided to have a go with Real ENB.

Approx 7:30pm. ENB on

ScreenShot17.thumb.jpg.19f4c0ccecb9d692c84ed3e8ba6eb5ea.jpg

ENB off

ScreenShot18.thumb.jpg.7177b7b75739185e6d34e07fbef1e20a.jpg

'real life' was a bit lighter than in the screens.

Went outside and it was as black as your hat. Went laggy as fuck within seconds. Did Shift-Enter and it said 10-12 fps. This went up to 60 with the GUI open - actually 61-62 even though I have the 60 cap on.

I since got the light level up but the lag is still there and I've no idea how to fettle it. I don't know how to change values in the GUI - I can move up and down the entries and highlight them but my mouse just make my character do stuff.

I need a guide to what all these entries do.

I'm using enbseries v0.319 (latest as of last week).

Ah well, onwards and upwards backwards and downwards.

Wondering why Skyrim is so dull.

The texture is nicely detailed in a matt finish sort of way.

Can anyone point me at some sort of guide for understanding what the various ENB setting actually change? Text preferably. I've spent several hours today reading stuff from various sites which all tell me about the same few things.

I would like this too. If there is a guide explains the features as if the reader is a total simpleton that has never tweaked shader settings before, thus has no idea what any of the fancy technical terms even mean, that would be even better.

Please write down the actual name of the enb. RealLike ENB instead of Real ENB, that makes things easier.
So, if you'd like to change anything in the GUI, then please do yourself a favour and open the console while tweaking ^^

It's hard for enb modders to tweak the interiors, because Beth hadn't any lighting standards in the vanilla game (just look at some of the awful yellow Solitude interiors)

Tooo be honest it's also hard to help you, because I sometimes can't understand anything what you're saying. For example

it said 10-12 fps. This went up to 60 with the GUI open - "This went up"? ENBs don't change between 10 and 60fps usually, you must have accidentally hit the "enable effect" or something similar when opening the GUI: Toggling effects seem to happen when using the Shift+Enter combination while the former invisible GUI-mouse cursor was at the position of an GUI effects.

And I still recommend the same enbs a few pages back, even if Bronze did a bad job in explaining the installation. But the the general balance of fps, colour tones and playability (lighting, DoF) is very good. Or try the superb Rudy ENB.
Other than that, keep calm. You'll learn how to do things on by one :)

I only know about two enb tutorials. The old legendary --JawZ-- has done one at https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/39742

And Tapioks did a youtube series about enbs. He always posted his videos on the nexus but I don't know about written ones, https://www.youtube.com/user/tapioks/videos

I found this, not read it yet but it's a start.

No, that is what happened. The game had slowed to a crawl - I brought up the GUI - the FPS fluctuated between 10 and 12 then climbed up to 60. Presumably because my character was stationary and things could catch up. I didn't say the ENB changed, I said the FPS changed - the ENB's GUI merely reported the fact.

I had a look at those ENBs when you posted them and didn't like the look of them. Rudy (as I've seen in quite a few vids) is far too dark in interiors for me. I can't remember why I didn't fancy the others.

I don't want to learn how to do things one by one. I want something in one place that I can study, fettle and implement. I am an extremely intelligent guy who can speed read. Fucking about for hours gleaning a tidbit here and a tidbit there is so fucking frustrating for me. That's one of the reasons I prefer text to videos - talking is too slow. Don't get me started about Gopher.

The S.T.E.P. ENB guide is part based on Jawz's guide. I'll have a look at it and the video link tomorrow.

I've managed to get rid of the lag - did a lap of (inside) Windhelm without any problem apart from running into the odd wall because it was so dark in some of the back streets. I've also managed to get the interiors brighter but haven't managed the outside world yet. That's my goal for tomorrow. If I fail I sentence myself to watch Russia vs Saudi Arabia in the World Cup opener. Now there's an incentive . .

To be honest, it's not worth the efford: You could download old enb files from Matso, Kyokushinoyama or Midhras, they've had a lot of commented lines before there even was a GUI. Or use reshade profiles instead of enbs. You've got less controls and less effects, but it's easier to tweak. Or combine both (load old sweetFX binaries in your enblocal.ini).
Other than that, Wolfgrimdark's enbs are matured, too.

Oh, and Gopher is slow.

I won't risk my health watching that football match though.

Unfortunately the final showdown was a couple of total wankers that died like flies. After many attempts to get a good screenshot of the anti-climatic battle these were the best I could capture:

Apparently, I've got nothing left to do in Skyrim at all, much to my surprise. Guess I might as well start playing something else instead...

Had a read of the Jawz manuals - now gone from no information to information overload. :confounded: Still can't get the hang of the GUI, even with the console open it's difficult to navigate. I've discovered that gamma goes down to increase brightness. Not had chance to look at the videos yet as my familly got in the way.

Step back there. Working ENB coming through.

Just realised: If that's me in the background, how am I behind the bar side on? Who cares?

Rya ENB doing the do. Lighting looks better in thei mage than it does in-game. There is a 4-candle stand behind her head to the right of the door and a 1-candle horn on the bar. Need to tweak the sources to give more light or start with a better ambient level.

Girls evening - while we are discussing how to get Sylgja her Mark of Dibella in Foxfinger's AA mod.

I am undecided if Annekke is fit enough for some dragon hunting  on our way to Markarth, or if we should better take the carriage and be done with it.

Will you escort my mother to the temple in Markarth?

Of course I do!

But if we go on foot, the shortest path leads us along a reported dragon lair (Dangerous dragons).

So they've closed the road. It is too dangerous. And it appears I am the only dragon slayer around here for centuries.

Ah yes, that film. Funny thing is that screenshot gives me more memories of Golden Axe. I'll have to fire up MAME sometime soon...

So I showed up at Markarth to track down another member of Ivana's family (those Slaverun slavers are bizarrely obsessed with collecting her female family members like they are pokemon or something?) I ended up getting side tracked:

I ended up agreeing to help a Vigilant of Stendarr investigate a haunted house:

Father's altar had been desecrated a meddlesome priest of Boethiah. He tasked me with rescuing the priest from a Forsworn camp so he could be coerced into returning to perform another cleansing ritual:

Eventually I found the wretched priest. He barely thanked me before foolishly dashing off to his awaiting trap:

The priest should consider himself lucky. The suffering he endured was nothing compared to what Molag Bal put me through to acquire my soul:

See this orc? His name is Igor. Eventually I am going to kill him. I don't care if I have to wait until the end of the Slaverun questline then console command his essential status away so I can creatively crush the life out of him, but he is going to die:

Seriously, if I get one more mission where I have to travel to the opposite side of Skyrim to find some girl the slavers want to enslave, only to have to run all the way back to Skyrim to ask this moron for his "advice" on how to capture her, which always boils down to "Duhhh.... I fuck you then you bring girl to local stable where I waits for her..." I'm going to lose my mind. Either way I guess for now the bastard gets to keep fucking me in the ass figuratively and literally:
