I hope it works. Maybe we should back up each of our uploaded files just in case.

Everything will be backed up from just before the update. If things go completely wrong, the backup will be there to just return the site and everything to how it is now.

All content will be imported into the new version. Nothing should be lost.

Even with Ashal backing up the site and such, you should always have a personal backup on your computer and if possible on a CD/DVD/flash/thumb drive or even on the cloud... I can't tell you how many times I hear that something went wrong with a mod authors hard drive etc, etc, or they needed a previous version of the mod etc, etc. Having backups (even for users to have a backup of their mods, various versions of them as well) is essential to your mental health ;)

Won't there be a time between the two versions that some data could be lost.

(after the new version is setup but before it goes main stream and we are still using the old one) ?

In the  past I believe this is when something could be lost (mostly post and such) Or am I wrong/or this has changed?

Stuff that was lost was due to having to revert to the backup, not the actual update. The reason this had to be done last time was that despite the updated site working fine in testing, the new software couldn't handle LL's usual high amount of traffic, leading to serious lag.

Once it's setup, the new version will go mainstream right away this time, rather than last time were the old one stayed the main site for a few days before the new one fully replaced it. The downside of this though, is that it takes some time for the upgrade to fully update all the old posts.

I may change my mind though and do it like last time, to give it time to finish updating all the posts to the new format.

you may want to put the update on hold, we have a serious fucking problem here:

http://www.loverslab.com/topic/86621-patreons-new-rules/?p=2037498

This condition is there from 2 years. Nothing changed (except the URL to contact them.)

A few months ago (actually was April) the search tool is no more showing adult stuff.

What is the matter? Was always like this and will stay like this.

Consider that about 90% of Patreon revenue is from adult contents.

Just respect LLab rules and we should be good (and be aware that there are tons of "cartoon bestiality" patreon items that are there and get tons of money.)

Was the language from 2 years ago specifically mentioning porn?  I thought the policy was about no illegal stuff according to US law.  Porn is legal but now Patreon deem it unacceptable.

Yes, same section, same rules.

What he said, those rules and not being careful enough to follow them is what got the Sims animator Lady666 kicked off patreon, it's not new at all.

It seems as if they just don't want porn or other mature subject matter easily viewable on main pages, through searches etc. I believe it is ok to let people know what your Patron page is about just not show examples (nudes etc)

The thing that might be a concerned as I see it is the extreme content etc which is present in mods on this site and Patron page is supporting a site that makes these materials available, however, there is no "real world" or avocation of such behavior and this is fiction. (Example Sexout Breeder, Fertile Breeder etc, Tryouts (some of the content, etc, etc) However all said and done, I don't believe there will be any troubles so long as that *stuff* is kept behind the doors in patron only sections.

Thing is, money and sex isn't a great breeding ground. You often find pretty trashy content and/or abuse in that setting and those guidelines are there to protect patreon against trash people (like CP and such). It's not there to censor or drive porn away, just to allow them to avoid any legal trouble down the line.

All further posts about the Patreon stuff will be removed.

Delaying a few more days, as I'm not feeling too well at the moment. Shouldn't be long though however.

Hi, my biggest concern is the same from the previous update attempts.

The new forum software looks subjectively worse, and has objectively much worse functionality.

The biggest issue is that it has no toggle to write and edit posts in BBcode, so we were stuck with the standard text editor which forces a lot of format changes that you have absolutely no control over.

Examples - it changes links (or how they are displayed), it does not allow to position images where you want, things like that.

edit: almost forgot - oh the joy when the text editor removes spacing lines, or adds new ones where they don't make sense

Some of the new design was also a pain to read, example in the current forums the spoilers are a very subtle element saying "Spoiler (Show)" while the new version has this huge button "CLICK HERE TO REVEAL THE SPOILER" or something like that. It just doesn't look very professional, and these huge buttons are everywhere. Probably optimized for mobile devices so the smartphone zombies can hit the buttons.

PS - Just remembering another design thing, the way how avatars and reputation votes are displayed in the new version really, really sucked.

Showing the total amount of reputation on the avatar is a bad thing, because this automatically gives the poster with the higher rep more credibility even if he writes complete bullshit. You know similar like when they interview people on TV, and the caption labels one guy as a lawyer and the other as a baker. People will always believe the person with the higher social status no matter how wrong they might be.

Also the tiny green rep vote button in the current version looks very decent, while other forums have these obnoxious facebook crosslinks and/or kindergarten symbols with clapping hands etc.

I hope there won't be anything like that in the new version.

At the first glance, yes, it looks odd and strange, but once you get used to it is it actually quite good.  For example...

- You can select a text in a post then click on a "Quote this" option that automatically popup and it is changed into a quote in the post editor, which makes it easier to reply to a long post by splitting a post into *sections* (I can't find a better word than sections)

- You can now drag a quote, spoiler, and attachment by holding down the mouse and move it where you want in the post editor provided there is an empty line, otherwise just press enter to create an empty line

- You can resize an images by clicking on a white dot then hold down the mouse button and change the size of the image in the post editor

- When linking to an existing post/thread a small image will be displayed in a post like this

I can't think of anyting else atm, so I guess that anyone need to try and see what has changed to the better or worse.

Ashal - Sorry to hear you don't feel better yet. Hope that whatever you have a problem with will end soon and all will turn to better.

Unfortunately, the software that the site is running on is very old, very, very old in computer terms. It needs an update for security and such. I am a moderator on another site that has the software (I assume based on CPU comment) that Ashal is hoping to upgrade this one to. Yes, the aesthetics are what you state but in time you get used to it. Same as it was when this site moved from the previous software to this one.

There are other benefits as well if moved to the new software which I won't mention but is pretty useful and I am pretty sure if implemented here, there will be many interested in using that software.

My personal opinion is Ashal needs this upgrade to the most current software and keep the site up to the most current version. There is support from the providers, the cost is very small and features are being added all the time. Once this is done and he keeps things updated instead of making all sorts of custom settings and such, he should be able to keep the site up to date pretty easy.

It takes way too much time and effort to maintain and develop a custom web site not to mention possible added cost as well. Nexus does this. However, Dark One has specific people in place to do these task and develop these features and functions. Ashal doesn't from what I can see. It is too much to ask him to fight with the coding and such as well as admin the site, members, develop Sexlab and other projects as well as take care of his RL issues and work.

As far as aesthetics like buttons and such, there might be some packages that can be gotten that will change that. It is a very flexible software (I believe CPU is quite familiar with it. Perhaps others in the admin/contributors are as well. There might be some give to give the site more of a "traditional look and feel" at least to a point.

Hopefullly he will be able to add the BBC coding and other features but in the end we would have a more secure site.

Well yeah i just wanted to highlight a few things that very pretty annoying with the new software. Maybe some of them can be optimized with plugins to prevent another wave of people leaving the forum?

I understand that the update is necessary from a security point of view, and perhaps even has some new features that could be useful (which i personally haven't discovered yet). However after the previous updates, the forum functionality was so miserable that i - after several failed attempts to fix my scrambled mod posts - simply gave up and only returned when the old version was back.

It's worth adding that the new software also significantly slows down the forum, because the server has to send all these gadgets like the link previews to other posts. And the way how it uses Javascript to switch between pages (instead of individual URLs) further slows things down and makes the "browser-back" button unusable.

So let's say you click on a thread on page 11 of a subforum, and after you're done reading you want to get back to the exact place. On a normal website you would simply press this "browser back" button on your mouse, but due to the java implentation you get thrown back to page 1 of the forum list.

Now to get back to page 11 you have to click through the forum pages: 3, 6, 9, 11, that's four clicks and waiting each time for the server to respond. That is, instead of getting back instantly to the cached previous page.

Sorry but that is several steps backwards in human engineering.
