Someone I was working for got offended I called Jane Foster 'female Thor' like A.) Thor is the characters name, not his alias; whereas for Jane Foster... not so much, and B.) Doesn't it feel a little insulting that you're being given a hand-me-down hero after the MCU was done with it? Kind of sounds like being given an older siblings underwear, but stitching a 'cool' patch onto them... it's still cheap and unappealing.

Just imagine if these people took a fraction of the time they use to celebrate their faux-diversity and spent it to create something new and actually inspiring.

Frankly the person who literally hated asgard and most of its people including thor (asgard apparently gave her super cancer) getting the hammer is pure political screechbeasting and little else, especially in a world where Sif and Valkyrie (both of whom are actually Odin-qualified to sling hammer) are a thing.

Taika is super clever and his deconstruction of Thor was first rate (for a movie), but he's gonna have to find the greatest sitch writers of the modern era to avoid this becoming a glowing incandescent trainwreck of PC posturefest awkward. Luckily for him all the actors involved are really good at subversive comedy which is p much the best you can hope for.

If I had the technology I would build a robot with an AI. If I had the smarts, I would program that AI just like the girl from Blade Runner.

If that technology existed all hope of me having a proper relationship in the future would be ruined.

I'm pretty convinced that there's a guy or girl out there, writing an AI with the sole goal and purpose of it to become sentient and take over the world, like Skynet.

Sometimes the thought 'Anything bad that you can think of doing to a human has been done, or is being done somewhere..' really scares me.

So you essentially want a waifu then. Can relate. I would see it as a win instead of "life ruined". Waifus save Laifus. You'll get a relationship where you stand to lose absolutely nothing, and customise it to be anything you desire. What's not to love about that?

But we're still kinda far from sentient AI. It'll take at least a hundred more years for AI to resemble even remote characteristics of sentience, unless something revolutionary happens within that time period and it boosts the speed of AI development. Highly doubt a Skynet scenario will ever occur though, i've talked about why i think so in another thread here on LL. If anything, a 1984 scenario is far more likely because there is no shortage of individuals and groups who wish to have absolute control over societies, and technology is a very valuable tool that can be used to achieve that.

Ya know.....I'm not a kid anymore (not for a long time) and.......I still don't know what I want to do with my life. Am I fuckin' hopeless or what?

What do you like to do in your spare time, aside from playing video games? Gardening? Tinkering?

I have no idea how much longer I'm going to have to be a caregiver -- folks on my pop's side of the family tend to hang around for a long time. His mom died at 96. He's 86. His sister is 88 or so.

As morbid as it sounds, I have to think about what I'm going to do with my inheritance once he's gone. And it depends upon how old I am when that happens. Do I invest in myself, or just hoard the $ for my own old age?

If he dies tomorrow, I'll get my teeth fixed and attend technical school to be a machinist or something. If he holds off on his dirtnap 'til I'm 60, that's a whole different scenario.

At least the house will be paid off.

...

tl;dr. Luke, what do you like to do? Can you translate it into something lucrative? Do that.

Everything and nothing. That's the problem. The only damn thing I really love is playing games. So, that's the direction I'm heading- something to do with making good games. I figure I might be able to have a hand in making a few before I'm gone. RPGs would be great, but I realize I might not get to choose.

Is it just me......or is everyone more hostile lately?

So you wanna make games? That's cool. What do you specialise in? Or what kind of skill in game development are you interested in and wanna focus on developing?

All of it. I want to be able to design and build a game from scratch. But, if I had to choose.....it would be models and textures. I've seen the work of others and it impresses the hell outta me. I still can't learn Blender for shit, though. I just can't seem to get it to work right for me. One reason I can think of is that any instructions I find for doing things take a very specific path. I want to know what the fuck I'm doing and why. That's why I take the slow lane when learning things.

What about you Otaku-san?

I've been trying to get a scratch indie game going myself. Though programming is my main talent. Finding focus and the free time has been the tricky part.

Oh that's pretty cool. Though if i must say, trying to learn everything at once is not the most efficient idea. In studios there are developers with designated skills. The programmer won't know much about model making and the model maker won't know much about the background creator who won't know much about the sound engineering. My point is, if you prefer models and texture designing, focus on that, and for a while, only that. Try to find people who already know their way with models and textures along with people who have other skills such as programming and sound making and all that.

You'll be making games at some point, but doing it in a team will be astronomically better instead of trying to do every time consuming task all by yourself with all of them individually having steep learning curves.

As for me, i'm focusing on digital art. Drawing and stuff. Blender is kinda sitting in my PC but i only use it to build rough models to use as references for bone structures and frame builds (body frames and different body types from different angles because i can rotate stuff in Blender). I'm past that point now and almost done with learning effective flesh drawing, now focusing on expressions and detailing faces. Buildings and structures aren't that big of an issue but they need some more work, i need to pick up my over drawing pace more importantly. I'm still not good enough yet, but i'm making rapid development. I've got some confidence issues as well since i'm kind of a late starter and my rivals have been drawing for longer. But i'm catching up real quick.

we've got tons of artists,  and even *I* have blender, and programmers keep making busted-butt interfaces for other programmers (exhibit a: creation kit)

but no one animates. Or if they do, the artistes and the programmers don't give invisible points for the animators to aim towards. (eg, kissing, sucking a tit, and other things).

I bow to the magnificence of the um, heroes who overcame all those obstacles and animated stuff anyway.

Stick-figures could be fleshed out later by artists, and given entry-points into games by programmers, and lines to utter by writers.

But animation is so hard it takes a hero to do it.

Imagine a (I'm digressing, sorry)

I second that. Animation is really really hard, both 2D and 3D. I do plan on learning 2D animations in my life, but that's gotta wait until i can draw identical images at a rapid pace all day lmao. Mad respect for the animators and the people who devote their lives into it for the sake of making better and better animations (Not the shitty ones of course, those look purposefully bad, as if they stopped their learning curve midway through the basics or something lol).

Programmers are also really important and it's super hard. Same with sound designers and composers, learning and mastering various instruments and orchestra play to give life to scenes. So many types of talent, so much learning and such a wide field of craft.

Oh i'm not actually about game designing, just digital art/drawing/painting. But i think Luke here from what i can tell is interested in making RPG style games? Maybe. I'm interested too because he's taking on quite a lot and a bit too much in my opinion. The learning curve will be astronomical i'm sure.

Yeah, it's rpg's I'm interested in. I know there's a fuck-ton of stuff that I would need to learn. That's why I said I hope to have a hand in a one or two games before I die. In the mean time, I intend to improve my modding skills at a comfortable pace. An introduction to programming and computer design are something I will be studying in college this next semester. There's a class for video game design that I want to take as well.

Well, best of luck to you then. It's best to have an efficient and well thought out study procedure, know how you're gonna achieve it, plan ahead and it should be easier.

Wait, college? How old are you exactly?

RPGs are one of the genres I'd love to develop a game of. But as with my general tastes I'd prefer focus on a classical style one, something similar to the SNES Final Fantasys or Wizardry 7, one of my favorite DOS era games.

One of the more unique ones that I would think would be fun to make a spiritual successor to is Ogre Battle, which was kind of a hybrid between a classic RPG and a single player strategy game. Also, unlike a lot of the RPG styles I'd like to emulate an Ogre Battle inspired game could actually benefit from using 3D models instead of sprites. 7 Saga is another RPG from the 16 bit that might actually look good in 3D, and was somewhat primitive meaning it would be a rather easy to create project by game design standards. Something of an unique artstyle for a JRPG of the era. Shame the western port was made into a grindfest nightmare, but that's what rebalance ROM hacks are for, hehe.

Unfortunately I can't write for shit, so an RPG would have to be a group project. I'm a mathematical thinker all the way.

Cool. I don't think I played most of those games (or I just don't remember it). I was thinking rpg using classic D&D rules or something. Hell, as far as writing a story- I could probably write a good one for you given some time. I'm in the slow process of writing a science fiction thriller anyway. With fantasy, you can just explain shit away through *magic*.

It was fucking HUGE. 1.5 mr thick.. 5 meters tall. It didn't really have legs.. it burrowed it's way through anything, circling and destroying whatever it touched, but it was black.. made of strings, cables, organic.. it had teeth and sharp extremities everywhere. They were protecting me. Hundreds of people, huddling inside the large building. Outside there was just rain and forest.. we heard it outside in the trees. It was just the black of the night. Then a terrible noise and shaking as it burrowed its way through the back of the building. There was screaming. Then it burrowed past us, taking half of the building with it. I saw people get torn apart, buried underneath the rubble.

I ran and I hid.

It was all because of me. They were all dying because of me.

I knew it in my heart.

I heard it make its way, back and forth through the building, looking for me.

I ran, trying to hide deeper in what was left of the rubble.

Hoping.. that it wouldn't find me.

Then the building above me collapsed and I was stuck underneath the rubble.

Everyone else was dead now. Corpses, limbs.. body parts.. all around me.

I couldn't move and I heard it coming closer.

It was just it and me now..

Nowhere to go, stuck in the rubble.

Then my fucking alarm went.

Worst nightmare I've had in years.

Woke up completely upset.

Fucking shit.

to no one in particular:

I had network-card envy knowing that the latest motherboards had jumped over my 9260 network card and had gone with an AX200.

But the AX200 *I* got was a real bitch to train, it kept dying or dwindling the speed away to nothing.

Not like my beloved 9260.

I was about to dump it and put the old one back, but it started working better.

Geez, I wish I knew why.

Maybe it's much much (mucho) more sensitive to background noise.

My singlemost paranoid thought is, what if I didn't install it right, or what if the pci-4.0 slot it's supposed to go into (I have pci-3)

matters.

I keep telling my beautiful mind that if it were installed incorrectly or in the wrong type of slot, it wouldn't work or would work consistently bad.

But my mind doesn't believe me, it thinks there's something wrong somewhere and I just haven't found it yet.

I think I'll wait til it dies to un-reinstall it, it ain't broke.

Plus like I said it's getting better.

2.4ghz idle bandwidth, 2400/1470 when it's being used.

It was worse yesterday, using higher channels.

The lower I go, the better it gets, but the channels at the top and the bottom are clogged with other users, and 160mhz only really has two channels.

I'm using the lower one.

I'm still hoping some deus-ex-machina (like Procian or Reginald) says "make sure you turn off the doohickey, tune the framistan to 'x' "

Thick.. wide? English acting up.

The reason was binge watching Alien 1 through 3, then heading to bed right after watching this video on youtube.

It's exactly how I dreamed it.
