Princessity Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 I just had a thought! My brain did the think thing! It's 6 am, I just got up, hai! Since slavery in Utopia will be broken up into castes, chattel, domestic and so on, I wonder if it will be reflected in any pop-level flags we can access from outfit selectors. Maybe that could be used to assign specific slave outfits to specific types of slaves? End of thought. Launch brush_teeth.exe.
Nessa Posted February 17, 2017 Author Posted February 17, 2017 Oh my, yes. Let's hope so, that could mean MORE outfits. And while I'm here, might as well post some shots of the inspiration for the Asari supercapitals. (Which will be hard to tell because they're so different.) Anyway, Supercapital1: The light carrier is done also. I admit I got lazy with it, but it turned out alright in the end. (Pics later. Yes, I'm evil.) STILL wrapping up designs for Supercapital2. I've got 2. Whichever doesn't work for elves will end up Drow. Can't believe the last ship is the hardest!!!
Nessa Posted February 18, 2017 Author Posted February 18, 2017 And..... Light Carrier! I know, it's the colony ship... with military stuff. Told you I got lazy! There is a carrier deck, I just didn't take a shot of it for some reason.
Railgunner2160 Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 And..... Light Carrier! ElvenShips_LightCarrier_Main.jpgElvenShips_LightCarrier_Side.jpgElvenShips_LightCarrier_Top.jpg I know, it's the colony ship... with military stuff. Told you I got lazy! There is a carrier deck, I just didn't take a shot of it for some reason. Lazy!? You do know the first real world aircraft carriers were converted light cruisers don't you? Converting an existing design isn't really a hallmark of laziness. also considering how much space a colony ship would have to carry supplies with it'd make sense if it was chosen for conversion or that it's basic design would be used as the basis for a carrier....
Princessity Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 That's true, unique designs for different ships are fun artistically but existing ones adapted and retrofitted for different purposes also make sense from an engineering standpoint. And oh my gosh how huge is the Supercapital2 next to regular ships? XD
Nessa Posted February 18, 2017 Author Posted February 18, 2017 Well, I love that explanation. Yes, that's it. It's a converted colony ship! Brilliant! And oh my gosh how huge is the Supercapital2 next to regular ships? XD Supercapital1 is already pretty big. I think supercapital2 is going to be crazy. Also, since all the supercapitals are giant, I'm going to hold a vote for which one goes where. I still can't decide.
Nessa Posted February 18, 2017 Author Posted February 18, 2017 OK, made my decision for Supercapital2. It's not quite finished but I'll be wrapping it up soon. In the meantime, I'm getting the other ships into NSC! Oh, and for Drow news. I've got designs for ships up to cruisers on the Drow. I'll be doing some of those designs in between Asari stations.
Nessa Posted February 22, 2017 Author Posted February 22, 2017 Voting Time!! Finished the last supercapital! And I still have no idea which should go where so I'm going let somebody else decide. These are the ship classes: NSC Dreadnought Superdreadnought Flagship Realistic Ships Dreadnought Heavy Dreadnought So that means one ship sits out of Realistic Ships for the time being. And the ships! Supercapital1 Basically a bigger, pointier version of the battleship. Supercapital2 This one ended up the culmination of everything I've learned about Stellaris ships. The inspiration was an elven arrowhead, so this one may be the elfiest out of them all. Also the highest poly of any ship so far. (It's the first ship to benefit from the fact that I don't have to concern myself with being too low poly.) Originally intended for the Drow. You can kind of see the influence with the wing part. (Drow supercapitals will be quite different from these.) Good thing too because this thing looks more like a giant yacht that can kill you rather than anything Drow!! I'm pretty sure this thing has a giant swimming pool. Probably a wave pool too. And don't forget the botanical garden deck! Cupercapital3 My previously highest poly ship. *cue Imperial March* Yeah, Vader's ship. Elf style. So, everybody let me know what you think should go where. (And if I only get one vote, I'm going with that one! ) I'm in no real hurry to mess with the super capital ships in either NSC or Realistic Ships, so I'll let this sit for a few days. Also, as always, if anybody's got a good ship idea, post about it!! Even if it's not for the elves!
Princessity Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 OMGZ I looooove 2! It's so sleek! I'd totally see it as a Flagship - the most posh, artsy display of superiority! So elfy! XD Then I'd go with 3 for Dreadnought and 1 for Superdreadnought. OR (yes I'm breaking the voting rules because I can't make up my mind XD) 3 for Dreadnought and 2 for Superdreadnought since it looks like natural progression - bigger and fancier but built on the same general frame. And then 3 as the Flagship just so you can make it ridiculously huge and be like "we like ships so we put a ship in our ship so we can swag while we swag!"
Nessa Posted February 22, 2017 Author Posted February 22, 2017 OK fine, so I finished early. Turns out weapon locators aren't really a pain if using my weapon mesh idea. I'm going to do a little more testing and... might be a release soon. I still have to decide whether or not to have an NSC patch or not. Scales are roughly... vanilla NSC. My dreadnoughts are a bit bigger because, well... that ship wasn't designed to be very small.
Nessa Posted February 22, 2017 Author Posted February 22, 2017 OH also, stations are going to be a bit because vanilla is always going to take precedence. (Super structures, etc.) However, I have a cute design for a leaf style station that I think is going to work out.
Nessa Posted February 22, 2017 Author Posted February 22, 2017 Yes, be nice or we'll send our giant luxury yachts to blow you into space dust.
Hamof Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 Yes, be nice or we'll send our giant luxury yachts to blow you into space dust. To be fair, that's pretty much what the Mon Calamari did, it worked pretty well against Star Destroyers.
Princessity Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 I imagine the bridge of the bigger ships to be dominated by a huge hot tub in the middle and the captain issues orders while sipping cocktails ...at least that's what it will look like in my head when I play XD
Nessa Posted February 23, 2017 Author Posted February 23, 2017 You mean the First Officer. The captain is busy attending the opera on deck 145.
Princessity Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Oh! Of course. And over on the Flagship, they don't even have a bridge! It's actually a big spa where the officers are getting space honey facials, Riggan Spice aromatherapy and exoplanet mud baths while the ship runs itself XD
fulih Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 OK fine, so I finished early. ElvenShips_NSC_Chart.jpg Turns out weapon locators aren't really a pain if using my weapon mesh idea. I'm going to do a little more testing and... might be a release soon. I still have to decide whether or not to have an NSC patch or not. Scales are roughly... vanilla NSC. My dreadnoughts are a bit bigger because, well... that ship wasn't designed to be very small. Those are really nice ship models. I'd say that at first glance, Frigate, Strike Cruiser, and Battlecruiser are the best. They'll be available for vanilla Elves patch, if I'd like to swap some default ship models?
Nessa Posted February 24, 2017 Author Posted February 24, 2017 Yes they will! I'm still debating whether or not to do an NSC patch. But the models will be present in the vanilla version for sure. They will probably mostly all be available in vanilla anyway if they're really adding more ships in later versions. If they add titans to vanilla I'll just use the Flagship model.
Therakis Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 Is there going to be a downscaled patch? All these ships look fantastic but can't see myself using them if thee's only a vanilla size version since I have downscaled versions of all other ship sets including modded ones. Or would that be covered by the base Downscaled Ships mod? Also for what it's worth, +1 on the NSC patch, that mod is fantastic.
Nessa Posted February 26, 2017 Author Posted February 26, 2017 If you size down the corvettes much more they might as well be fighters. I'm not sure how the downsize mod works but it's probably based on vanilla ships which are all the same size. My ship scales are quite different so they'd need different numbers. It's certainly possible to do but it requires somebody rescaling the ships according to whatever the downscale metric is. And I hate messing with scales as it is! However, if somebody wants to do the scale work for me I'd be happy to either throw together a patch or link to somebody's patch here. All vanilla ship scales are handled in "_elven_01_ships_meshes.gfx" while the NSC stuff is handled both in the gfx file and the associate asset files. Be happy to help if anybody wants to do it. ****Oh right, and the NSC patch. I'm done, I just have to update a few locators and add in my new animations.
Princessity Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 Squeeeeee! Thank you for the update, I know what I'm doing the whole day tomorrow! n_n
Porev Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 Nessa, I want to thank you for all the hard work you put in this mod. Dammit, I've been using your mod since October and I've never expected a unique ship set with custom meshes and with NSC support. These ships are so awesome... there are no words. Oh well, and now I cannot wait for you to release Drow ships (I suspect it's going to take quite a while). Looking forward to seeing a tease screenshot, 'cause I'm curious about their general design and all. I hope they will have some spiders on them.
Nessa Posted February 27, 2017 Author Posted February 27, 2017 Hmmm spiders... well some of them are spindly like spiders. Since the release for Banks is April 6th, the goal is: Drow vanilla done by the 6th! Not sure I'll make it but I'm going to try. Also going to have some new Asari screenies in a minute but that's for another thread. ***** Oh yeah, forgot a little news post didn't I? AHEM: UPDATE!!! Some big changes in this one. Naughty outfits are in a separate patch. (But NESSA!!!! That's dumb to have to load ANOTHER stupid patch! Well, yes it is. And if it's too annoying, I'll get rid of it in a future update. Right now there was a lot of clamor for a mostly family friendly version so, there it is. ) NSC Ships! Yay! Everybody be on the lookout for any oddities with the new ships of course. I haven't had a chance to do ... well any testing other than that they show up and fly around. Vulcan hair is gone! For guys only. In case there any weirdos, I mean Vulcan fans, I'll be putting the hair into my Real Humanoid Slaves mod. ... Unless I did already. Have to check. Stations are on their way. But first comes vanilla Drow. (And Asari stations of course. ) I realize there are some rough spots in regards to fallens, trait not working, and primitive elves. And there aren't any "pre-sentient" elves yet either. I'll be revisiting all of these issues after the ships styles are fully wrapped up. Those essentially suck all my free time to make. But I will get back to real modding after they're done.
Nessa Posted February 27, 2017 Author Posted February 27, 2017 Oh yes, and I nearly released Reaistic Ships as well but I was getting all kinds of funky errors. (Like the Heavy Dreadnought only showing up for certain ship styles.) MIght wait till the next major release of that for compatibility.
