DocClox Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Maybe it's all in how they're reported. "OMG!! This evil person is corRUPting owah chidren's INNocent lay-yavs, and BethSayDa are doing NAWthing About it!"
Tsadok Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 "Up next on Fox News: Video Games, the toys your child plays are nothing more than digital pornography players! A recent game from Bethesda Game Studios somehow got past the ESRB and has actual, full frontal nudity, that your child can easily see with little trouble. How these Video Game developers are able to put such vile and filthy images into a game and go unnoticed is beyond belief. When asked for a comment, Pete Hines said 'WE DIDN'T MAKE THOSE MODS, THEY WERE MADE BY PLAYERS!' obviously a lie since children dont know what sex is until they are corrupted by the leftist liberal media. "Later be sure to tune in to watch the same three news stories run on repeat for the next 38 hours" ..... or was that CNN? but basically we need to kick the Plebs in the balls, if and when the media gets onto how little Timmy got boobies on his Xbox the ESRB will reclass FO4 as Adult Only much like how they did with GTA: San Andreas, and Bethesda would pretty much have to do away with official support for modding.
BoozeJunky Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 I wonder if b3llsario would be ok with people using the floppy schlong model - ported into FO4 - to put into their mods, and a bunch of redundant checks in the scripts to see if it's been stolen. If it has been stolen, then it would apply big floppy penises to the foreheads of the PC and all the NPCs in the game with a pop-up menu that reads "Don't be a dickhead who supports mod piracy. Support the authors and report stolen mods" or something along those lines. Between the graphic genitalia being a direct ToS breaker for Bethesda, and the message itself, it might just create enough of a shock to get people's attention and promote some some real action being taken.

LOL just use the IsConsole check to disable any scripts for anyone stupid enough to try install a non-console compatible mod and do that anyway "You are a dick, Ok?" Imagine the fun we can have with Console users in SexTech Orgy!
Captain Cobra Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 LOL just use the IsConsole check to Supposedly, Bethesda disabled certain bug checking commands, such as that one, for console mods.
DigitalP Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 Filing a DMCA takedown request can easily and very fast become hell. According to US law, the accused person gets the personal information and report of the accuser. A quick visit to 4chan and a life could eventually be ruined. That is only fair though. After all a when filing a DMCA Notice you are effectivly accusing a person of commiting a crime. Bethseda is simply following the law in this instance. Now since the US, UK, Canada and Australia for example use Common Law which is based on precedent could you imagine the shit fight in the court systems if people could accuse other people of crimes anonymously? Bethseda's hands are really tied on this issue.
Akzyra Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 Even if, there are soooooo many things that could make it better. These two are kinda obvious: - View at the files; they should show what is packed into BA2 as well. (Nexus only looks into normal Archives) - a linked Steam account that owns FO4 is needed to upload; this would kill pirates because the SteamID is banned from uploading. MAs need a console to even check if their content is stolen. Or helpful XB1 users that tell them. First would help, because most thieves will not rename all files. Second would prevent "mod pirates" stealing more and more. "Modstesting24" stole so much and was still active yesterday.
Veladarius Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 LOL just use the IsConsole check to Supposedly, Bethesda disabled certain bug checking commands, such as that one, for console mods. That's just it, if it does not come back positive that it is a pc then it disables the mod, if the command does not work then it won't pass the check.
DocClox Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 Any single scripting check is going to be disabled pretty damn fast, I reckon. There are already disassemblers for papyrus. It won't be long before some bright spark writes a program to find the call in question and replace it with an expression that evaluates to true (or false, depending). Then they just need to package it as a crack and anyone can circumvent any anti-console checks. That said ... am I the only one who feels profoundly uneasy about the direction this is taking? I mean granted none of my mods are ever likely to appear on consoles, both for reasons of content and SKSE dependency. All the same, I do wonder whether starting a DRM arms race and deepening the divides that already exist in the community is a good thing. Just a thought.
CanadianBlueBeer Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 All my mods on Nexus/Beth will link back/forth to each other as a way to tell if the upload on beth is legit or not. also, they all have "NOTE: All my mods will now link back to Nexus as proof I uploaded it.The Nexus page will link back to my uploads for console. If the 2 way linksare NOT there, I did not upload the console version. " in the description. Not going to bother doing again here though, and once I start in on the adult side, well, beth will be policing those from the consoles anyway. (and I'm not gonna link bethsite to here, that's for sure!)
ToJKa Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 That's just it, if it does not come back positive that it is a pc then it disables the mod, if the command does not work then it won't pass the check. Right, being unable to confirm that you're on a console, confirms that you're on a console But it's not like Beth tried to hide it, i bet all console ports of all their games have them disabled. That said ... am I the only one who feels profoundly uneasy about the direction this is taking? All the same, I do wonder whether starting a DRM arms race and deepening the divides that already exist in the community is a good thing. Just a thought. I agree completely. It's no different from when Steam workshop started, or the paid mods fiasco. Assholes taking advantage of the situation. Means will be implemented to prevent that. This temporary rough patch, that'll be long forgotten by this next year. Or at least distant history. Let's not launch the nukes just yet.
InKal Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 just make F4 sexframework already and let some deranged consoletard upload it on bethesda mod site. DIS GON BE GUD!
Krataka Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 I really don't understand where all this anger came from. All this shit has nothing to do with consoles vs PCs; It's just trolls being trolls, greedy assholes being assholes, and children being children. This shit has been happening on the internet for years and will continue to happen. By all means, you want to try and put a stop to this, go ahead, but don't try to pretend this is actually anything new. It's just the same old shit with a new coat of (low-rez) paint. Maybe I'm just being too forgiving or I just didn't expect that people would have a sense of common courtesy when it comes to other people's content, I dunno. It's not like people haven't been whining and bitching at mod authors on the Nexus for years about how their mods "don't work" and how they "broke their game".
Paingore Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 I actually game on both. But seeing all these people that are pro console and against moders over ob Beth.net is starting to make me to stick to my PC for my modding needs. I was thinking it before finding out about mod theft on Beth.net. I mean look at the activity feed if anyone has an Xbox One for Fallout 4. There was way to many vocal morons over there. So much bitching about the patch not coming out at midnight and through out the day. So many death threats and so much more before and after the release of the patch. Then people get it and demand Bethesda and Mod Arthors to fix mistakes they made. One being not reading anything about mods and downloading them you are doing so at your own risk. I can even understand how a mod can delete or even destory their Xboxs as some claim.
Akzyra Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 I tested something I made for some days now, so I think public access won't break it. (But Bethesda might, with all the changes they have planned) Bethesda Modwatch - A simple site that tries to index every XB1 mod ever uploaded to Beth.net. Checks if mods are public and I blacklisted some user known to stealing mods. (1 user was active for a long time, but I hope he is finally banned) I made it to see how many mods are removed/hidden. Not to divide userbases. That's the reason it is called BethWatch for short: I want to watch how Bethesda handles this shit. Oh and I display comments as well for mods. Sometimes you can see comments from hidden and even deleted mods for some time. Kinda nice to see the shit that goes on when it is/was a stolen mod. Just click the comments icon. (And before some asks, yes Bethesda provides this information to the public. Thats how their site works. Click the JSON icon to see mod info how I access it)

(I've been complaining that having certain tags together on bethsite causes things to not show up in a search) I'll have to go back and check what tags I have set. (I've got 3 up for xbox, BlueBeer in all of them)

I can run it to include older mods, but if the mods are like after page 15 it doesn't check them for availability. Just too much traffic otherwise. Edit: Now all mods for XB1 should be listed, but as said, I will not check old mods.

They've proven themselves hopelessly out of touch with the modding community and unable and/or unwilling to implement even basic security measures on their own distribution platform like a "Report" button. If they take offense at this, then it's their own fault for not doing things right the first time. Some of us still haven't forgotten or forgiven Bethesda for their aborted paid mods idea on Steam. PC users have recourse to other sources for mods and it was doomed from the start. Console users won't have that and the company has already proven their willingness to try it once before. I really hope if they do charge on BethNet, mod authors just quit uploading to their site until they make it free. Todd and (especially) Pete Hines need to be taught that the customers have the real power. The latter, especially, has come off as more than a little tyrannical about things in his various tweets.
