What music do you listen to?

Ok, fine, if we are doing classical music, I'll see your swan lake and raise you a canon in d.  The kid playing the guitar is pretty amazing and I can just see his parents pulling their hair out.

I have always wondered the hell the conductor does.

Same here...

Espacially since its pretty common that you're playing "from the sheet" there aren't even that many opportunities to look at the conductor.

The only thing i see vaguely connected are dynamics, but no orchestra musician here either...

Really?   Hmm  hard to see if you are just  being sarcastic.  The conductor is there to maintain the beat, especially if you don't have a bass section doing it.   I would look up on occasion when I was holding a long note to know when to start the next chord, but I never made it past third trumpet so I am definitely not the quality you would expect in an orchestra.    At 0:44 (and many other places) there is no one keeping the beat, so you would play your notes in the conductors time.

Of course, I defer to any trained musicians with more than high school band concert experience.
