Guest
Hey guys, your average poked lurker here. You've got some splaining to do.  I came to this place a long time ago when it was new because I heard there was somewhere other than the Nexus *shivers*. A little background. I'm a lurker because I have had a piss poor time on forums. I have been banned from several, received warnings on sites like Minecraft (some years ago actually) or Paradox (more recently) and just generally don't do well on sites with an open opportunity to express opinions. So I don't. And unless you decide to really dig at me I'll never show. But I show here. Because you guys are nice and you like what I like.  So where's the trouble? Well... I've noticed opinions are getting silenced a whole lot more here. And it really upsets me. I saw this site as a break from all the bullshit that the Nexus was doing. You guys didn't care about "offensive" content, and you didn't care about people disagreeing with authors. But this goes beyond modding. In general and off topic things were discussed and argued without people being banned or dubbed "trolls" for differing opinions. This is, as I'm seeing it, disappearing. Something's going wrong. I don't see the same fearless community that I saw years ago (oh god, that long already?). Quick. Someone move to assuage me. I want to be acting ridiculous.  Link to comment

Angrybird
Hmmm, what kind of opinions? Politics and its derivatives are usually avoided I have doubled down more than once to avoid thread derailing, this is a modding and gaming forum after all. As for modding, mod authors have priority as it should be, they are the main reason people come here, you are free to give your opinion and then free to shut up because it's their work and they do what they want. gregathit
Politics and religion became banned topics simply because very few intelligent "arguments" ever occurred.  Most of the time those "discussions" devolved into massive rule breaking brawls, which forced moderators to step in and calm things down.  Believe me, all of the moderators here HATE to actually have to use our moderating powers.  We don't have quota's or rewards for the number of warnings handed out each month.  Frankly, I'd be happy as fuck to never have to warn anyone ever again.  Any community that wants to thrive has to have some basic rules and being courteous is one of them.    Link to comment
~magic~
According to what I have seen so far, moderators only close discussions after they devolve into flame wars and hateful banter. Link to comment
Zt11rauss
I can understand this trend. It's simply because uncensored content attracts all kind of people so you don't get the ones who have manners only but also the rude ones and some which may not have a real social life. Latter might not even know how to behave properly. So you could say the free opportunity to get uncensored content leads to assholes who think in a community where that kind of sexual freedom is allowed, everything else might be allowed as well. Of course that would be a bit to easy to argue. But such people are often the ones who stand out the most because of their rudeness. That not only changes the way a community works but also fears away the people who actually have manners and only want to enjoy the contents. And the result are moderators who have to be more strict then earlier. So yeah... that's my solution why this place has changed. Link to comment
wulfgear09
Sniff..... fact of the matter is no matter what ya do or where ya go sooner or later some asshole has to show up. Cynical Misanthrope
I absolutely despise censorship. But unfortunately sometimes it is necessary. Why? Â Assholes and Trolls. Â Even thou this is a modding site, doesn't mean you can't discuss other things as well. As long as you keep it on civil level, you should be fine. But when low-lifers comes and stir shit up, by pointless bickering and name calling, that's when someone has to slam the breaks and put a stop to it. Link to comment

Buddy Christ
Actually, I have been on the noisy side of a conversation here before. And I am grateful that the whole thing got cleaned up (not censored in my opinion). The Mods here put a lid on it, let everyone take a step back and gave a stern talking without just swinging the ban hammer. Â I think the Mods do a fine job in keeping things calm. Slapping wrists where needed and pointing out to people where they misbehave. There is a difference between "censoring" (Hey, only my opinion counts! *locked*) and "putting a lid on an oil fire in a pan" (Hey, you have different opinions, but stop going for each others' throats *temp lock*) Â Link to comment
Nixea
I for one am happy to see "arguments" about politics dealt with. It gets very old seeing people use political views they disagree with as insults. That stuff is pointless, childish and leads to nothing but the kindling of an eternal flame war. Link to comment
Doctor Cadaver
I'm also glad that politics and religion aren't allowed to be discussed here. Â Otherwise, you're just a short wait away from inevitable drama happening. Link to comment
PsychoMachina
Arguments will happen regardless. There was a certain "Banned from..." thread that got locked and it sure was not from talking about politics and religion. Also, if you look around enough, you'll come across mod topics that will have a mini flame war going because people decide that the appropriate solution to opposing views is to be condescending.   Link to comment
123bobbybrownstone
I see where you're coming from, but derailment prevention is something that is really important on a modding forum. Besides, if you want to freely express yourself, go to 8chan! Link to comment
Guest
Chill bro, don't be a complete fucking tool and you'll do fine. Actually we have one or two tools, and they do fine anyway. You have to really want to cause shit before you'll get it.  It just doesn't get any easier than this place, our mods have got mad skills. Cherish it. Link to comment
shirow
Well I agree that the religious and political topic is ... hard to "speak" (if we can call it this way) about. I mean a lot of people are narrow-minded and about this they are always right. And tell which one is right or wrong is hard to find out... Â So it's just some normal rules to keep the forum great and not a massive brawl Link to comment
Chaos63
Go to 4chan if you want to say whatever you want with zero restriction. Failing that, there's about a dozen other sites just off the top of my head that have 100% free speech policies. This one just isn't one of them. It's primarily for scripting and large animated tits. xarathos
I was once told that a gentleman doesn't discuss politics or religion in public, because chances are either everyone listening agrees (and there's therefore no point), or they don't (and it will therefore be an unpleasant conversation). Â I wish more public forums took that to heart, frankly. It'd make things a lot more pleasant more of the time. Â (i may just need to get better at taking my own advice) Link to comment
