WrythePhokas Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 At the risk of dipping a toe into politics, there is a little thing that bugs me. That is when people use the word "censorship" in the wrong context. Censorship is what happens when the state limits, beforehand, what you are allowed to say/write/publish. Policies made and adhered to by private communities or enterprises have nothing to do with that. If I'm the editor of a fiercely pro-Mordor newspaper I am under no obligation to publish a letter to the editor, denouncing Sauron and written by a bearded hippy. That's not censorship. Find your own pro-Hobbit newspaper ffs. The same applies here on LL. There are moderation policies that are adhered to, and they are pretty fucking relaxed. You can disagree with them, but don't call them censorship. There are other forums or sites that have draconian rules or very random and unfair application of those rules, but that's just people being assholes, not censorship. I've never experienced that here on LL. In fact this is one of the most helpful, laid-back and cool online communities I've ever been a part of. As for me I was elated when the politics forum was removed. I've never been in a situation when politics or religion has improved my sex life (unexciting as it is).
Someone92 Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Go to 4chan if you want to say whatever you want with zero restriction.Several months ago 4chan started an attempt to "grow up" and has thus enforces several PC regulations. Afaik 2ch and 8chan are the "anything-goes" boards now.

Not on /B! Then again /B has been pretty cancerous lately.. well it is always cancerous but more cancerous than normal! It's odd seeing so many people white knight on /B, because they are just trying to troll by doing the right thing... It's a WEIRD time for /B.

gameleirabh Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I love a peaceful beach, LL modders and their wonderful mods. As I see those things does not unleash the dogs of war.
RavinBeast Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Yeah I Agree With The No Politics & Religion Rules, The Only Thing Politics & Religion Do Is Turn People Against Each Other. As Far As People Getting Banned Goes, You Should Be Alright As Long Respectful. Seriously Getting Banned From This Site Would An Achievement In Of Itself Thankfully We're Lucky To Have Moderators That DON'T Go Around Acting Around Like This...
Guest Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Thank you for the responses, but it hasn't really helped me at all. I guess I just need to be content with the idea of lurking. My main quarrels are with the politics decision, this focus on not doing ANYTHING... not even in conjunction with other mods or that could be seen in a squinty sideways glance as involving people younger than 18, this new focus on what some people are calling "trolling" (even if the people bring up legitimate arguments/concerns), and how frequently mods see good discussion and bad discussion but close threads anyway because of the bad. It just doesn't feel like it did months ago. And I know one thing. It isn't the little people's fault. Then again anywhere else I would have been banned for reporting a problem with a mod. Literally the first comment I posted here. So... Thank you mods that I don't particularly like right now.
DoctaSax Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 And I know one thing. It isn't the little people's fault. It really is though. It works like those crazy laws like "in Buttfuckville, Iowa it's illegal to put lipstick on a cow and take her to church on Sundays". That's a stupid law, but there was a good reason for it: somebody used to put lipstick on a cow and take her to church on Sundays. And when they told him, "man don't be a dick, cut it out" he said "try and stop me, there's no law against it!" Then again anywhere else I would have been banned for reporting a problem with a mod. Literally the first comment I posted here. So... Thank you mods that I don't particularly like right now. You're welcome, long-time lurker with the sudden urge to fight the power.
Guest Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 I strongly believe people should simply spend 24 seconds of their life reading a bunch of rules and be so mature to decide between "A) I agree, I'll follow them", or "B ) I don't like them, I'll move on another site", I guess there wouldn't even the need of moderators. Moderators appear when people chooses on purpose "C) who cares if I agree on the rules or not, this is definetely NOT something about the rules, or censorship, or whatever... this is just me choosing on purpose to do something against the rules because I feel the urge to do that". You can call that behaviour with the word "trolling", "being a S-hole", "being stupid", or even "hey I'm just exercising my right to express my opinion! there's freedom of speech!", find whatever definition you want but for me they're all synonymous of "lack of common sense".
Chaos63 Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 I am an alien so I don't understand that term. How do you raid a site? lol. DDoS, comment flooding, derailment, spam...general trolling, but imagine thousands of neckbeards and script kiddies going at it at the same time.
Guest Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 So if I don't like it I can geeeeeeet out? Problem. Where exactly do you want me to go? Anywhere else and I get banned for saying the relatively tame comments I have so far. And trust me when I say I've seen these problems. People are afraid to say things that could be misconstrued as breaking some rule. We can't just sit and go "oh, obviously the people who made the rules are using them to protect the community." Because I've seen that this isn't true. And look at the responses here. One thing that people don't deny? It is happening. So as adults that care about keeping this community what it is we should be taking a look at it.

So as adults that care about keeping this community what it is we should be taking a look at it. I am not afraid to post something that might be misconstructed as breaking some rule. The one time my stuff got deleted, I actually broke the rules. Instead of getting banned (which would probably have happened on a "censoring" board), the whole mess was cleaned up. By the way, censoring is done by states or governments that suppress the freedom of speech. Moderating on a forum is enforcing the house rules. It is more like "I don't want you to come into my home and pee on my rug. The rug really holds the room together!"
fizzybutt Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Sounds to me like you're just trying to pick a fight where there isn't any. There isn't any frickin' censoring going on. Some people just know how to respect a rule. You must not have been around for some things, because shit goes pretty far before someone says 'cut the shit out and play nice together' If you've got a problem with a specific moderator, take it up with Ashal. He's the big dog around here. Do it privately, quit trying to pick a fight with the entire damn LL population. No politics and no religion; no hinting at/blatant child sexual stuff, that's pretty much it for the rules around here. And respect eachother. How fucking hard is that? It's not. They're pretty reasonable and sane rules to me. Oh and posting something in the wrong place (different forum entirely from the question) and getting it locked and told that there's 4, FOUR threads available for that one type of question isn't censoring. Or posting the same question that's been asked 10 million times as a new thread and getting it locked, that's not censoring. Quit picking fights. There's other forums if you want to get your politics/religion on. Can't help you if you want to get your loli/jollies on. (not saying that's the type of person you are, just pointing it out) You remind me of the kinda person that is the reason for having to post in big bold letters that 'the contents of this cup is HOT' or 'don't put the toaster in the tub', warnings all over everything now days.

Guest Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 I'll just go back to lurking now. Guess it's okay when the trolls are going for an unpopular opinion.
Buddy Christ Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 I'll just go back to lurking now. Guess it's okay when the trolls are going for an unpopular opinion. See? That actually is the problem. You start to talk about something, post your opinion and people do not share it. Then suddenly the people not agreeing are "trolling". This is how every... *EVERY* discussion about politics and/or religion goes. "What? You are not a christian? You are a troll", "Wait, you don't hate the left wing liberals? You are a troll!", "you don't share my opinion? You, Sir, are a troll!" You just gave a perfect example why things should be moderated in a forum.
fizzybutt Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 I'll just go back to lurking now. Guess it's okay when the trolls are going for an unpopular opinion. My opinions aren't liked a -lot- of the time. Do I care? Nope. But I do follow rules. Mostly... I try. You sir, failed at picking a fight, shed a few tears then move on.
Cynical Misanthrope Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 I like when people say "stop trolling" just because you might disagree with them.
gregathit Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 While we are on the subject of censoring...........let me just jump in and say: Fucking Fucktastically Fucktotally Fucked. Sorry, had a spontaneous need to interject the Fuck word into this thread, just because.........
Cynical Misanthrope Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Fucking Fucktastically Fucktotally Fucked. OMG! That really offends me.

samuin Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 What the hell are your opinions anyway that keeps getting you banned anyway? Do you hate gay people, are you racist, do you belive handicapped people shoud be executed, do you like Micheal Bay movies? What? Beacuse if it isn't anything blatantly offensive you can bet your ass it's how you express yourself and deal with people who dissagree with you that's the problem
