Per my escape idea, my end goal would, indeed, be bloody retribution. The mine would get a visit soon after from a rather agitated visitor intent on decapitating everyone in sight. Inciting a slave riot might also work, for a more direct approach, but would be harder to implement.
fallenmystic Posted November 25, 2014 Author Posted November 25, 2014 Slaves of Tamriel Alpha 2 Release Candidate Finally, I've managed to fix number of major issues with the alpha 2 release, which I've been working on for days. As quite a lot of things have been changes internally, I wish it could be tested by others before I could officially upload it to the download section. Here's a brief list of what has been changed since the first release : Regular ore counting scenes at 10am/12pm/3pm/5pm. Adjusted all lights to make it look less darker with popular ENBs (RealVision, TrueVision, etc) Player now faints while being branded. MCM option to shave heads of both player and other slaves. Slightly extended intro scene. Guard at the mining room entrance now correctly locks the doors. Guards will now punish you when you hesitate to enter the mining area. Bit more robust mining/resting implementation. Removed unnecessary scripts and prefixed everything with SLT for easier maintenance. Included source code for modders. NOTE: You'll need a clean save to test this release, if you have already installed the previous version. And it's recommended to remove any remaining files from it if it's possible. Now at designated times of a day, the guard will order slaves to collect ores they mined so far. And he visits each slaves to check how much they got, and mark the slave in the right breast accordingly. When it's your turn to turn in the ores, just pick up any ores you've mined, and when he says "Go to the Smelter", do as he orders and drop all the ores from the inventory. When you wait too long, he'll try to punish you. For now, the collected ores keep cumulating, so I'll have to deal with it in the next release. And also, from 12pm-1pm is supposed to be a feeding break, which hasn't been implemented, so the additional one hour between 12pm-3pm shift might affect the scenes. Also, I had to brighten up and desaturated all light sources, since it looked too dark for me when I switched to RealVision ENB from Realistic Hope. I'm still not sure if it's just me that having such a problem, In this case, you might see much too bright and blight interior compared to the previous version. If you see it happens, please show me your screenshot so I can readjust the lights accordingly. And lastly, please consider correcting and improving the dialogues, if you find it too awkward. As you can clearly see from my postings, I'm not a native speaker of English, so in my opinion the current dialogue texts included in the mod needs much improvements. Thanks everyone for the interest, and please don't hesitate if you find a problem or have any suggestions. UPDATE: Uploaded an updated version (Slaves of Tamriel.esp) which supposed to fix the lighting problem. Copy it over the 'Slave of Tamriel - Alpha 2.zip' (I've found the source of my dark and oversaturated lighting problem which I mentioned above. It seems that it's Realistic Lighting Overhaul(RLO) that causes even desaturated version of the candle lights to appear much too dark and yellow. This mod looks better and better. - lights are good - i like the bald heads :-) There is a little flickering between nearly bald and totaly bald at the other slaves sometimes (really minor thing) - the entry is better now, but my draborn is still armed and not at least cuffed while entering, what looks a little strange. - slave no. 45 stopps working aroun 1.00pm - at the break at 3pm the mod stopps working for me. The guard is simply standing, the slaves, too. - the time between getting the tools and entering the mine was to long. - maybe you should add shackles, that prevent slaves from using magic. About the background: I think it should be a Thalmor- Mine, what only means, that the Boss has to be a Thalmor, i think they give the lower and dirty work to the imperials. So you can let the guards be as they are. (Maybe add an Ork? They tend to sound brutal) In the entrance scene the guard-captain may say something like: "You must have done something really stupid, that the Thalmor sends You to this mine." The other girls could be from important nord-families or from families that opposed the Thalmor.

The stolen gold was correctly counted by the guard at the counting stage. The other guard caught me but his dialog looped between "Hold it right there!" and "Submit to the guard." - Also the slave overseer kept whipping even after submitting to the guard. But all in all it worked fine. Really really great work. I'm looking forward to the release version. Maybe the "Sitting/Resting"-Key could be rebind able in MCM. Thank you - [Edit] The light is good. I'm using Seasons of Skyrim ENB True HDR. Some places are really dark but there are no light sources so it just adds to realism.

That would look way more sexy (at least for me) and humiliating. (Place it like the lower one on that pic there)

Hopefully someone might help me identifying the cause soon. I'm a bit worried about other problems you mentioned though. But as it seems its at least playable, I'll release it as it is so I could gather more reports from others about them. Having subordinate Imperial guards for Thalmor might be a good ideaa, however I'm afraid it means we will lose such racial biased dialog options which might add some interesting aspect to the mod. As I've said earlier, I'm very interested in giving proper background lore to the mod. However I don't think myself to be qualified for the job, because I haven't read much lores about Skyrim yet. I didn't know that there were moments when you can break the wheel animation with moving. I thought the player was AI driven all the way through. I'll test it and fix it accordingly in the next release. How fast should mining exhausts stamina is something might need tweaking. I'm pretty undecided yet if the current stats are appropriate, so I'll try to balance it in conjunction with rate at which an ore can be mined. And you are correct in assuming that other two problems about stealing, and the request to make the keybinding configurable have been mentioned before. Crime faction at the current stage is just a placeholder for future development. It seems I should have at least disabled it before it is ready to avoid confusion. I've tried one like your suggestion, and another with 'The Property of Dremir Mine', where the last word of that text to be placed closer to the vaginal area. However, I decided to go with the current version because I'm using meshed pubic hair for CBBE which hides that part of the tattoo. But actually I agree with you something like yours look more sexy. So, probably I'll change it in the next version a bit smaller and cover the upper part of the vaginal area as well. After all, at level 1 the character isn't very strong or conditioned. I think the idea of adding a slow increase in stamina over time has been floated before, but that wouldn't be very realistic if the player only does it for a couple of days before making whatever escape inevitably happens. That said, I know there are some who will ignore the escape trigger for an extended time to rp the live experience of slavery over an extended period of time, so you might think about adding the increased stam over time (and mining xp with corresponding gains in ore per strike as also discussed earlier) for them.

Really fantastic start! I loved it. A few things I made note of. - on the previous version the branding all worked fine. This time (I chose the shaving option if that makes any difference) I got branded with the number 6 rather than 36, and never received the Imperial Skyrim symbols or the Property of Dremir brands. Head shaving happened automatically as soon as the area first loaded. I do have two RaceMenu tattoos set for my character's body - Freckle Mania overlays - so there should have been four empty slots for Slave Tats to use. The breast marks for number of ores mined worked fine later on. - as I think others have said, my character (a Breton) was sunk halfway into the wheel during the branding. I've noticed this always seems to happen when a mod puts me in zaz furniture - alignment is always a bit off, sometimes wildly so, but if I interact with the furniture manually it works pretty well. I went back and got on the wheel myself later and it lined up perfectly. Captured Dreams has similar problems with furniture alignment - including floating to the side of the wooden horse, but again, getting on them manually always works much better. Not sure why that would be. - the guard seems very quick to warn you when you're ordered to the smelter, and even quicker to order you to drop your ore. If you haven't trotted over and dropped everything within a second he gets the whip out, while he never gets so trigger happy with the others. - the guard sometimes seems to get hooked on a slave - by which I mean he stands so close he seems to get stuck and unable to walk away, sometimes twitching a bit as he tries to. It results in him standing doing nothing for hours on end at times. Waiting didn't seem to help, but walking over and running on the spot into him to push him frees him up and he carries on with his rounds. He also does this with the player quite often. - I use humorous naked comments and it led to some unintentional comedy moments. The smelter slave would sometimes walk over and stare at me, saying "Don't see that every day." Given that she's talking about a naked woman - and apparently spends every day in a mine full of naked women, as well as being one herself - this obviously doesn't make sense. When the guard gets caught up at the player's position he also gets stuck in a repeating loop of saying, "In all my years I've never seen such a thing." I had to laugh Obviously you can't be expected to account for every mod out there, but I thought I'd mention it in case they also say the vanilla naked comments. It would be pretty jarring if they do as female nudity would be commonplace for them all. - and I don't know if this is expected, but I was completely free to wander around the entire area (apart from one gate that was locked) without anyone commenting (except on my nudity.) I could go right up to the exit door and click to try and open it. (It switched from "open door" to "close door" and you obviously couldn't get out.) No one questioned why I wasn't working, or tried to punish me. - lighting was fine, maybe even a touch bright. I use Unbleak performance ENB and Relighting Skyrim. And the ore-production rate seemed spot-on. I was level one so just had 100 stamina. I couldn't go for as long between rests as the slave next to me, but she took a lot longer to get back to it each time she rested, so I was able to match her output pretty much. The lazy cow! The first time we were inspected I got a fairly neutral "OK" kind of response from the guard, but each time after that he was happy with what I'd done. I did pinch a few ores to see what would happen and got stuck in that dialogue loop at one point. Opening the console, clicking on the guard who approached me and typing in (I think) "paycrimegold 0 0" fixed it. It's possible that the guard running in when he saw me stealing might be why the two gates were open, allowing me to wander around. I didn't notice at the time, but I guess he didn't lock them on his way back out. A lot of this you might be aware of, and might be because things aren't implemented yet. I'm just putting in as much information as I can. Like I said, this is a fantastic start and I'll definitely be looking out for it, and trying out new versions as they pop up. Thank you!

(You can count the number of ores each slaves has mined so far) I seemed to mine ore at a steady rate. The other slaves did a better job until I only rested until I had half stamina (my character is level 5). Working in short bursts yielded more ore between shifts. Does your character open you mouth wide even before you're gagged? Yes. Are any of the actors gets stuck so stopping a scene before it finishes? Yes. At the beginning the Lead Guard/Captain seemed to get stuck between scenes, the inspection and getting placed on the wheel. I disabled/enabled the captain and the scene triggered. There were other pauses between scenes too but none that were game breaking. Do you see any weird animation alignment during the introduction scene? Yes. First time character was behind wheel. Second time aligned perfectly. (Important) do you see sometimes slaves stop working permanently when they are supposed to during the working hours? No. That didn't happen on my playthrough. A few additional notes. My first playthrough with the updated mod ended at the wheel. My character died during the branding scene. The scream and the branding actually seemed to loop and repeat itself until my character fell over. Then DA kicked in and an adventurer was spawned inside the mine to offer my character assistance. I had to abort the test and start fresh as the controls stopped being responsive and the camera was off character. I tried the mod a second time giving my character 1000 hp. Didn't die on the wheel. From an immersion standpoint it would be nice if the hair was removed/shaved at the inspection or after the branding when the screen blacks out. I didn't try to break the mod or cheat the system but what prevents the player from walking over to the smelter and picking up lumps of ore that are piled up after the first shift? The slave that worked the smelter would periodically leave her post and walk around my character and over the vein or ore I was mining. When she did so her arms were bound behind her back. The lighting was very good, just a wee bright perhaps. I don't use an ENB but I do use ELFX. I would rather have it a wee bright than too dark. When standing up from resting to begin mining I would have to tap "E" twice. The first time the character looks like she is about to mine, takes a half swing and then stops. The second time it works. This happened everytime unless I was whipped. Agree that the guard was really quick to whip prisoner, especially when told to stand up to hand over gold and when dropping ore off at the smelter. Also agree that the rest/sit key should rebind. The playability is good but a full day or even multiple days could get tedious.

I'd like to find a way to make certain slaves noticeably better at mining while some others worse than the player. Thanks much for the very detailed feedback. It helps me a lot. I suspect the problem with branding to be caused by the existence of other tattoo sets. I'll test it and see if it really was the case. It seems that many other people have such problems with the wheel. Unfortunately, I have little idea about the possible cause. Maybe I should ask the author of the ZaZ framework for help, as it seems to happen with other mods as well. I'll disable the vanilla naked comments in the next version, and try as much as possible to avoid actors from blocking each others way. I was playing 3rd person. The wide mouth isn't a big issue. The big issue is the character opens her mouth as soon as she is stripped and it stays that way until the gag. No. When I get up from resting I hit the "Q" key. Then I line up to the vein and press the "E" key. Never works the first time, I always have to tap it a second time. If I'm the only one reporting this it may be an abberation on my side. My character's head was shaved as soon as the mod started. This happened both times I ran the mod. I understand it's an alpha mod and we are only testing the mining mechanic. Just thought I would mention it because it is the core of the mod. You've set the bar very high. In addtion, you mentioned the stamina rates and variables for the miners. Couldn't you just set the player's stamina at X while in the mod or maybe have a stamina debuff that diminishes over time??

The game platform seems to be notoriously inconsistent for modders, so I find such inputs from others much valuable even when I'm not able to fix every kind of such problems. By the way, I think temporarily setting the players stamina to 100 could be a reasonable approach. The slave collar has already such a debuf which decrease player's stamina restoration rate. So we can modify it to set the maximum stamina as well to make balancing the gameplay easier for players with wide range of levele/stats.

At one point I actually used showracemenu to give her the even closer-cropped style - thinking a brand new slave might have it shorter than the ones who'd been there a while, but it reverted back to the slightly longer version later on - I think when I waited.

Ah... I think I've found the problem. Attached a modified version which I hope to fix this problem(I haven't tested it yet). It'll also remove those annoying "you're naked" comments. Feng Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 The biggest problem with the current stamina/mining rate, in my opinion is it fails to differentiate performances of each slaves. I'd like to find a way to make certain slaves noticeably better at mining while some others worse than the player. Once we find a way to achieve this, I guess we can make the player one of the worst among slaves, so more susceptible for punishments at the start of the quest, than allowing to gain more experience and become at least average as time passes. Well since the player is the Dragonborn and all that stuff, she shouldn't have that much problems with a simple thing as mining, considering, that she did that during her adventures anyway, so before she goes on to mine the brains out of her slavers, she'd probably at least be amongst the top of the slaves, if not the best. But like always there will be many opinions about that, so it might be best to give it an mcm option, where you can set, how capable you think your character should be. That way everyone should be satisfied.

Also, head-shaving now happens during the blackout after branding, so that works great. I went through the opening scene three times. The first time I was sunk halfway into the wheel as usual, and got the 6 brand and no Skyrim symbol or Property of... marks again. The second and third times alignment with the wheel was much better and the brands all worked. I honestly can't say what I did differently except, perhaps, I had my camera a bit further away rather than zoomed in close. (I almost always play in 3rd person mode.) A couple of other things: - when the guard blows his horn ahead of announcing something he seems to wait about a full minute before speaking - and I got an enormous papyrus log from only a few minutes' play. I use that mod for every profile, so if it interferes, maybe you can make it blanket the whole game.

Nixea Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Are there any scenes of guards abusing slaves currently implemented or in the works? Not yet. But I'm deferring it only because I wanted to do the hard parts first, and spice it up with occasional sex/abuse scenes later. That's understandable. I just thought it would add to the sense of hopelessness and property if the guards abused the slaves in various ways (not limited to sexually only to avoid a very clichye fuckfest scenario) to get rid of any sense of pride and whatnot.
Wil Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 I'm loving the mod so far, can't wait for more updates. Great job on the intro, it makes the mod immersive. Though, for the background I'd like to recommend the Silver Bloods. They already use convicts as slave labor and have a private army. So, it wouldn't be a stretch for them to run another mine using slaves. Especially when it's implied that they pretty much own the Reach. Plus I'd imagine it would provide some unique dialogue for Breton players, particularly from Nord guards.
