The success of Apex Legends. From what I've read and seen it may have saved EA from a very, VERY hard fall on their greedy ass.?

Yeah I hear you.  Sad thing Apex Legends is actually a good game but the fact it has EA attached to it.  It's like seeing your favorite pizza but with a side order of slimy piles of shit next to it.  Granted said slimy piles of shit are optional but you can still smell the stench.?

I just ignore the in-game cash grab and focus on the game.  Screw EA.

The one thing that really gets my blood boiling is people and corporations who insist on trying to force feed geo-politics and PC culture on some of my favorite games.  Take for example the whole Apex Legends debacle; I could care less if my favorite characters are LGBTQ+ so long as the game is stable and runs well.  Stop trying to make me care when its irrelevant in a damn computer game!

One of the things which I find baffling about that inclusion push is when they do it in genres where no one's sexuality or sometimes even nationality and ethnicity is focused on or even known. For all anyone knows, all of the characters in previous FPS/team-based third person shooters were gay or transgendered or asexual but it wasn't important.

All that mattered is that they were caught up in an endless war with the eternal enemy.

It makes sense in life simulators or dating games or certain kinds of RPGs in which player created characters have a choice of paramour but it doesn't enhance every form of game to know who isn't straight, which is what it all ultimately amounts to.

Whether these corporations realize it or not, when they make a big deal about a character being part of the LGBT continuum (a concept that really doesn't make much sense, either, if one keeps the Kinsey Scale or the Klein Grid in mind)but not for heterosexual characters, they establish every character who doesn't declare themselves heterosexual straight until proven otherwise. It also makes any LGBT character at least partly defined by their sexuality while the straight characters' sexuality is considered so inconsequential that they don't even mention it. It comes across as counter-productive to their aims (or rather, what they claim is their aim).

It's not just video games that are getting woke. Whole movies with budgets over $100 million are in on it and--surprise, surprise--they're failing at the box office. SJWs don't go see movies; they're too broke to afford it and too busy trying to push their agendas on the rest of us to do it if they could afford it. At this point I am practically salivating for the inevitable backlash that's going to hit them. Especially as people realize how high their taxes are this year and they start worrying about other things. Like rent/mortgage, food, clothing, that stuff. It turns out it isn't just lemmings that are getting shafted by the current administration's new tax laws.

And this is about the point that PC Culture started losing momentum the last time it was ascendant: about three years into its six year run. It's all downhill from here.

Its funny because the entertainment industry thinks there is this massive well of cash to tap into from a market that is not only tiny, but also has a reputation for turning on people over the slightest mistake while also believing corporations and capitalism to be evil incarnate.

Even funnier when you look a something like Captain Marvel, a film that should be printed money just for being part of the MCU Avengers story arch, and can practically feel a layer the box-office gross get shaved off every time those involved open their preachy mouths.

As for your taxes, don't know, you sure your tax service didn't botch your numbers? My federal incomes taxes dropped through the floor this year, I payed less than last year even though I earned about 3000$ more. Ended up shrinking my refund as they never took the extra money to give back to me in the first place. Spent over an hour doing the math and comparing to last year just to make sure I was getting things right, as hearing what you have said about the new tax code in past posts was making me nervous.

You're lucky, then. Everybody I've talked to, including my own semi-retired parents, got nailed by a spike in their taxes. I even went over my own taxes with TurboTax rather than my CPA after I first learned what I had to pay; it came out the same. I don't understand the tax codes but a lot of people are getting hit hard this year. Which is already stirring up anger among the locals who once defended the current POTUS no matter what he or his administration did because "he's a Republican."

Original Diablo was what initially got me hooked on Blizzard games.  To see them completely eviscerated by Act-whore-vision just makes me want to launch a thermal nuclear ICBM at Activisions main HQ.  When Activision finally dies I'll be there at the grave site to take a nice long piss.?

Diablo II really hooked me in. I still even play it sometimes (in SP,) but also it's a reminder of the "We know how to play our game better than you do" arrogance that permeates Blizzard. Hence GoMule, PlugY, etc.

Now it's even worse. Blizzard is now dabbling into the realm of, "We know how you should act while you're elsewhere on the Internet, Better than you do"

Banning people from Overwatch, et al because of perceived slights/impolitic sentiments posted elsewhere?

WTF?

Wait, they ban people based on their Twitter feeds? WTF? I could understand people loosing their jobs due to some FB post or Tweet (saying their sick when they are really partying) Even some layoffs due to that is kinda questionable, but for a game? Wonder if this will snowball to: "Oh, your a member of LoversLab so we don't need you playing our game." type of deal.

Sorry. I edited my own post while you were posting. Hold on. Incoming...

EDIT: I SWEAR I first heard of this news from Jeremy (TheQuartering,) but I can't see his videos about it any longer in a simple Google search. Go Figure.

Anyway. It was a Twitch ban, not a Twitter ban. That's less bad, amiriteguys?

https://www.google.com/search?biw=2560&bih=1336&tbm=vid&ei=ITxtXOjzG-iN5wK3nZagBA&q=overwatch+twitch+ban+thequartering&oq=overwatch+twitch+ban+thequartering&gs_l=psy-ab.3...47287.49627.0.50227.7.7.0.0.0.0.92.552.7.7.0....0...1c.1.64.psy-ab..0.1.71...33i10k1.0.kMW2mgM128Q

Conspicuous lack of results from "thequartering" from a Google search that contained, "thequartering"

OK I'm not 100% right here. Jeremy's videos show up on page 1, but not until the 7th result down despite explicit search instructions

And underneath MundaneMatt

Oh, I posted on imgur, and they seem gung-ho about it.. https://imgur.com/gallery/rHHVOqq Wow, I guess people want to be monitored like that by gaming companies. I just see how that can be an issue down the line, like the recent Tumblr thing.

Twitch ban, is a bit less, but still could permeate to other social media areas, including being a member of certain sites deemed "inappropriate" by the public at large.

I guess I'm not the only one seeing this as a problem later down the line.

It just stuns me a bit to think most people support this type of deal, and if you had not mentioned it Pork Type, I wouldn't be making this big of a fuss over it, but it definitely concerns me, as it should concern anyone who has an account here. We are next on that list, I can feel it.

Whoa, stop right there @ 4:12

"Player Discipline tracker"

That's well and fine as part of an LL/DD mod, but Overwatch? With SocMedia support?

Ugh...

LL is relatively unassailable. I think. It belongs on the "porn" side of internet advertisement/payment processing?*

(*That wasn't meant to disparage LL's means of making $. Just to say, that LL is already "hookers and blow".)

Not to mention that most of these blowhard "journalists" probably have pussy-plugged, and harnessed, Skyrim characters of their own

yeah nothing's going to happen to valve when the CEO of Valve has a whole lot of money and influence, probably more money and influence than other  companies. Then you have more followers/fans of Steam and Valve than other companies like Origin, Uplay and GoG (IMO). The CEO of Valve is not going to want to lose his followers/fans of Valve and Steam so he'll use his money and influence to make sure his fans are happy. He will also probably use his money and influence to make sure that the SJW etc do not effect steam/valve and the reviews that you can do on Steam.

That's one reason I avoid sociopathic media.

I'm pissed at myself for getting the itch to install WoW and play it again. I haven't played in over six years but my cousin gave me her account, which had my account rolled into it, when she quit back in Nov. '17. I'm interested in seeing what all the noise is about MOP and WOD and Legion, but I've followed a lot of the changes and I'm really not happy with what I've seen and heard. Zones leveling up to the character, artifact abilities being taken away before some of us got a chance to play with them, nonsensical plots, abilities being taken away to "increase the challenge," and the elitism of players that was an issue even six years ago. If I knew of a private server where I could go play Classic, BC, or Wrath, I'd be all over it like white on rice. Especially since I'm voting with my wallet and not buying/playing any Activision Blizzard games or other products. Or keeping said games installed on my computer.

So i'm not the only one that noticed a discrepancy in my tax return this year.  I think it had to do with that BS government shutdown to build the wall.  I'm no Trump supporter but even I can understand that; I live in New Mexico and we have a REALLY bad illegal problem here.  Some come here looking for work and end up going back because most are just not qualified for it.  Others who have job experience do end up finding something but immediately get into deep trouble because they're here illegally.  My adopted father for example came from Juarez but unlike his other family and friends, went about getting citizenship legitimately.  Sure it took about 5 years give or take but he was really proud when he finally put a hand on his chest and said the Pledge of Allegiance.  His brother did the same thing and lo and behold when it came time for both of them to retire from the workforce they had a nice 401k waiting for them.  My father had that and was injured at work so he got disability easy.  I've talked with his family and told them the same thing, "look it can be a long process but with dedication and perseverance YOU CAN DO IT.  You just need to show some patience."

At this point I'm just ranting though and talking politics gets my blood pressure up.  Let's go back to just how perverse and disgusting companies like Activsion and even EA Games are being in their microtransaction hell scape.?

I am tasked with implementing security findings after internal audits, the most unpopular job in the world.

I'm going crazy with people in my organization constantly blocking and challenging me, I've had 3 escalations now, all ending up with my boss which told them to 'fuck off' (literally) and 'listen to what he says'.

Not only have many colleagues started to hate me for it, they are actively seeking out to circumvent and block me.

An example: A user account has a username with an empty password, the system does not allow password complexity, so we need to change the password.

So you mail this user that we need to plan this action and the application will go down.

10 minutes later there is an escalation email in the CEO's mailbox, who sends an email to my boss...

Seriously guys.. I can just CHANGE It and BE COMPLIANT with our internal and external auditors without telling anyone.. but then they complain that 'we should communicate' but.. when we do.. the answer is always 'no time', 'no priority', 'leave me alone'...

When my mother doesn't stop going on about her ex. Mid 40's and she acts around my age, every time she brings him up it's usually about how he's had gay sex or how he's a beta male or how immature he is, which is very ironic considering the things she's been doing prior to and after breaking up with him. But what really really pisses me off is I need to be careful on what I say or if I too much while she's around she'll go and rant about him again.

I sometimes have thoughts of confronting her about this but I inevitably I recall other times I have done this and it's like talking to a brick wall.

Illegal immigrants from Mexico avoid Customs by crossing across vast swathes of desert, underground tunnels, in the backs of trucks, you name it. And too many companies are looking for cheap labor they can abuse to care. If they're not citizens, they don't have the legal protection of civil rights. Nor do the people go to authorities for fear of deportation. That's a huge reason why illegal immigrants are such a problem: they can still find work as unskilled labor, especially during harvest seasons in states like California.

Yes, we do have self-absorbed idiots posing as experts. I personally fail to see how a wall is a good idea. It will cost a fortune to build, a fortune to staff, and a fortune to maintain. The logistics necessary are insane, even using state-of-the-art tech which just requires more people to run and monitor it. It's a bandage maneuver, not a true fix. The South Park episode "Goobacks" is looking more and more like a prediction than satire if we don't address the core problems.

GAH! I nearly forgot my own complaint replying to that.

YouTube's piss poor recommendation algorithm. Yeah, I've complained about it before. But after a concerted campaign of telling them "Not Interested" in a variety of videos, they've begun recommending me foreign language, sports, and foreign language sports videos. I hate sports and I'm an American! I only speak two languages: English and bad English.

don't forget the last brilliant idea that they passed without fanfare: the google translate of some video titles, so you click on what seems like an interesting video on whatever fancy your attention, and it is in some (relativelly) criptic language like polish or portughese, which fucks up the algorithm even more
