Tower is Snowpoint I think, up the hill from Fellhammer iirc, NW of Nightgate and SE of Dawnstar. You must have a quest to kill the bandit leader there but there are only 3 bandits total I think.

Unsure on the 2nd, have to think a while.

Third, the tunnel, I think is the place in the hill above Helgen. You get there by going up the road from Helgen, taking the left of the first forks and then a left before the Orphan rock pathway. There is a tattered flag hanging from a pole marking a chest and skeleton with an iron axe I think, and a wisp mother if you're high enough guards the path from there around the peak to the lower door. Just down the hallway from where you are (past the bandit sitting on the top step and another that usually lounges against the wall until I snipe him with an arrow) is a door and a snow drifted area where the ceiling has broken in, and a couple of frost bite spiders hanging out.

I was there the other day wandering around.

You are correct, #1 is Snowpoint Beacon, I had a quest from the steward at Winterhold to kill the leader there, and I came upon it from the northwest.

#2 is not marked on the UESP map, but Atlas Map Markers does have a name for it.  In case you can't make it out from the snow, there's a chest and a dead horker there.

You're also correct about #3, it is Skybound Watch Pass.  I entered it from North Skybound Watch after doing the destruction ritual spell there, then went through it and exited at South Skybound Watch, the opposite direction from what you took, I think.

Well I don't have atlas map markers and it looks like they use different markers than vanilla for certain places. The one to the east, the double bar, I'm used to seeing only for daedric shrines but if I remember another shot you had, you also see those for divine altars. The tree icon in the middle I only see for spriggan type places but I think one of my mods also uses it for abandoned wilderness dens and places like that... outside areas, not caves with beasts inside. Third I see for the nordic ruined houses, the simple dome places that resemble the icon. The only one of those close enough to the shore where you'd find a horker is east of Winterhold, about halfway along coast to Snow Veil Sanctum but I don't remember any horkers or other places out that way.

I would otherwise put you west of Winterhold where there is a pair of Talos shrines.  One is out on a small island, a statue at the cliff's edge. South of there a bit is a smaller simple one near the coast where a mod puts an abandoned camp. I forget the name it had, but there was a horse (not sure if mod added or not) and several chunks of horker meat and other supplies. I think that one's west of Saarthal and Hob's Fall cave but I don't remember any ruins close enough to show up.

karlpaws - "I don't have atals map markers" - maybe not but you certainly have black belt in Skyrim geography.

Atlas MM is a nice little mod, very customisable.

Close enough.  Atlas Map markers uses the tree icon for various points of interest (like otherwise unmarked chests in the wilderness), and this one is called "Ill-Gotten Gains".  It's due east of Snow Veil Sanctum, down the hill not quite halfway to the water.

He certainly does!

I don't think I've been quite there. I do recognize two landmarks that will let me place it, now I just need to figure out which nordic bird head you're under.

The view from this spot should be familiar ...

I think it's the view of the Lover stone from a shrine of Zenithar near Four Skull Lookout.

Correct!  I had just visited Four Skull Lookout for the Destruction Magic master quest, and thought I'd drop by the shrine.

Oh. Yeah I never stop there.  Thought it would be near Four Skull because I recognized Kolskeggr mine off the side as well but the lookout doesn't have that overhanging arch.

I haven't been playing enough to really get many shots, but with the jumping tweak I have I could get to some interesting places now.

It was near the "left for dead" start I used, so I went over and took a shot. I've had accidents with those horses in the past so I remembered them before I put the pic up.

Does Atlas mark ore places as well as mines? Because there isn't a mine there.

AMM lets you set the distance at which things show up on your compass bar so that mine might be some distance away.

The mine ore cart icon just replaces the crossed pickaxe and hammer icon for mines, so it's the same one marked in your screen shot.  From the angle of our shots, I'd guess that the cave icon is Cragwallow Slope and the mine (a bit farther away) is Gloombound Mine.

By the way, if you want to give AMM a try, I'd recommend also installing "Atlas Map Markers - Updated with MCM" which lets you use an MCM menu to configure it, instead of the original way of using books found in the Riverwood Trader.  The MCM method also lets you save your settings if you have FISS installed.

Seconded. (I'd forgotten that they were two separate things).

Yeah I forgot entirely that the mine showed up in my shot. I did try to get about the right angle on the tents but wasn't looking at the compass much.

I always remember Cragwallow, not so much for the inside but the mage outside that almost always gets eaten by the saber cat that spawns near by. It eats a couple goats and a rabbit too

Why do all these ancient Nord ruins look alike?  Which one is that in the distance?

attachicon.gifenb 2017_04_03 14_45_39_61.jpg

Volskyyge?

Yeah, that's what I think too. Took me a bit and then I realized Fort Hraagstead is just to your right. Kept trying to think which ruins were in enough northern snow and pine trees yet WSW of a road someplace.

Might have answered earlier but I was getting the Atlas mods. Then again, they might be the only reason the location came to me. Hoping the world encounters notification is what I hope it is.

I wonder if all the ruins look the same because that's the only way they knew how to make arches that didn't fall in, or if it was some kind of dragon GPS so they knew which were real and which were trap locations. :P
