FoxFingers Posted March 2, 2015 Author Posted March 2, 2015 and here is episode 6. Things are getting hot with Aela! I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's. And his hair was perfect. Another great, entertaining installment. Thanks Shinji!
FoxFingers Posted March 2, 2015 Author Posted March 2, 2015 I had to post to say thank you. This mod is wonderful. I have never played with this type of mod before but seeing it on Shingi's channel I thought why not? I am so glad I did. Like others have mentioned the ending with Aerin in Riften was very satisfying. I just finished the Companions and omg they were awesome. I hope you do make more quests for some men. I thought the Vilkas and Farkas quests were perfect and fit their personalities. I laughed out loud with all the kissing dialogue with Vilkas. Brynolf from the thieves guild immediately comes to mind for a love interest. But more than being a huge technical achievement and great quest mod it has given me an attachment to characters that I never gave a second thought to before. A great example is there was a vampire attack in Whiterun. Now I have a mod that makes npc's protected but not essential. So after the attack Adrienne was dead in the road. Now all other playthroughs this didn't bother me but this time I reloaded and made sure I got there in time to save her. I was thinking "oh no you are not hurting one of my girls". I think this feeling of caring is what is missing from Skyrim and you have injected that into the natural storylines. So thank you very much for making this mod and I hope you do continue to add to it. It has made, at least for me, playing Skyrim much more enjoyable. Thanks for the kudos. Appreciate it. Wish I had the time to add further romantic quest lines for Skyrim male characters. But really, I can't do it on my lonesome. A single quest line can take weeks to do, just for me. If the mod had a team of volunteers, maybe it would be different. Left to my own devices though, I can only do what I find interesting - which are female love interests. For as many people as seem to want Male romances though, I'm surprised there isn't a mod specific to that already out there doing it. Thanks!
nutluck Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Foxfingers was your mod the one that had the pop up menu for the sex options? Like with Aela etc?
FoxFingers Posted March 2, 2015 Author Posted March 2, 2015 Foxfingers was your mod the one that had the pop up menu for the sex options? Like with Aela etc? If there's two Females then there's a dialogue box that opens asking if the player wants to be the Dominant Female. In early versions there was also a dialogue box asking what specific type of position, but it didn't really add. The "o" key is much better for that. Thanks!
nutluck Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Ah ok cool, was wondering where that come from when I watched the video.
FoxFingers Posted March 4, 2015 Author Posted March 4, 2015 I imagine it will be awhile before there's any new update. I did start cutting Serana's voice tracks though. Molag Bal approves. Serana quest?! YES! So I played through Dawnguard. And I've examined all Serana's voice dialogue. I've come to the conclusion that this is a character that makes almost no sense as Bethesda wrote her. You walk into the Castle for the first time. You see the corpses of innocents everywhere and blood all over the walls. She's beyond a "worshiper" of Molag Bal (a perfectly evil entity), she's one of his willing chosen. You just know the woman spent centuries draining the life blood out of terrified innocents. And yet, she tries to come off as basically a good egg. And, in fact, believes that she is. And for all the lives her, her mom and her dad have likely taken and terminated without a thought, her big problem is that mommy and daddy don't love each other any more. Oh. My. God. What to do with her? There's no rhyme or reason to this character. What a hack writing job on Bethesda's part. It's like they hired someone to mainline Twilight for 24 hours on cable with an eight ball of coke and write whatever they came up with and send it in. Oh well. At least the voice actress had really good enunciation so her files are easy to cut. Sexy and breathy a plus. Just wow.
Sacremas Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Haha, that's some good points. Yeah it never made much sense that Serana should come with you as a Dawnguard follower, Vampire is fine obviously and then it makes sense because you can see on that side that clearly Harkon's gone distant and doesn't care about anyone and everyone's just assholes. If you're a Dawnguard however and have none of that info, then Serana's a vampire that's obviously evil, loves being a vampire (gets offended if you suggest it's a bad thing, supporting her and not saying anything bad about vampires until one crucial moment is the only way to convince her to get the cure and become human) and is upset about her family situation but has no problems helping a group intent on wiping out her family. Really makes no sense at all, my guess is they wrote the vampire side, figuring everyone wanted to be vampires, and then... kinda got stumped with the dawnguard, didn't want to waste everything they'd done with Serana and limit her to one path, then just tacked her onto the Dawnguard part as well. It may be that someone like Ingjard was supposed to be the Dawnguard version of her but they ran out of time before they could finish that. I mean she's not even necessary at all except for telling you where the blood scroll is, otherwise she's in the way and can provide blood to make vampire positive arrows, like if you'd need that. There's very little reason not to kill her with all the rest in Dimhollow except she's the one talking to you, and she's essential with a quest you can't say no to. The logical thing would be to just stake her along with the rest and take the Elder Scroll which was the actual treasure of Dimhollow and return to the Dawnguard with that, but no you have to go hand it over to the enemies... only to then get it back again when Harkon manages to lose his scroll AGAIN! Thing is Bethesda have never been very good at meaningful choices or dialogue beyond just "yes I'll take this quest, here is this quest item" and even responding violently to all of the daedric quests and offending them has no effect at all. Take Durheviir in Dawnguard for example, even if you one-shotted him you have to say that "I found you equally worthy" to the dragon you as a Dragonborn dragon-slayer just killed, there's no dialogue chocies at all. Compare Fallout 3's various choices to what Obsidian did in Fallout New Vegas. My guess is Serana was Bethesda's attempt at a Bioware style follower and they in the end had little idea on how to do it, the cure process is probably one of the worst "companion approval" implementations I have ever seen. Hopefully you can do something with her though, as Laura Bailey is a great voice actress and the character is all kinds of sexy even without mods.
FoxFingers Posted March 4, 2015 Author Posted March 4, 2015 Props to the voice actress for making the best of it, yes. She's done a lot of work on great shows. You know Bioshock Infinite had a fantastic female follower that made perfect sense. If Dawnguard was like that, that would be awesome. Serana should have been written either evil and wicked funny awesome evil at that or have followed all the story tropes of Redemption which she doesn't have. Unless the player kisses her ass at every dialogue... then you can pretend there's a redemption story in there.
Pet1Pet Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Well, according to the author of "Serana Dialogue Edit", Bethesda did left a lot of traces within the game files that they had plans for an "approval / romance" system that ended up getting cut (a side note, "Serana Dialogue Edit" ver 1 supposed to have some of the deleted features restored / recreated). As for Bethesda's attempt to create a more interesting NPC (ha!), at the very least I give them kudos for trying. Serana as a character? Knowing that Bethesda's plan to create an romance-able NPC I doubt that her alignment is "evil". It is probably closer to "True Neutral" or perhaps "Chaotic Neutral" in D&D term. Mr. Fox, glad to know that you might be adding "Serana" to "Amorous Adventures". Not sure if I am helping, but a decent read from some random internet stranger (who just might be a fan of Twilight): http://www.reddit.com/r/skyrim/comments/2fhps6/is_serana_the_best_follower_in_the_base_game/ck9qfxy Say...how in the world can you finish Dawnguard so fast?
LaEspada Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Props to the voice actress for making the best of it, yes. First note, i like your new avatar And yes, i totally agree, when i first played through dawnguard i was like yea!! Serana best follower/companion ever!! Cuz Laura Bailey's voice is smexy. Following the words of a certain starship secretary, i would totally "do" her voice. Hehe But as I played through a few more times, from both questlines, it grew more apparent how really shallow Serana and her interactions are. Like Pet1Pet said, i see her more as a chaotic neutral personaility. She's not overly evil for being vampire like her father, she says she loves being one, but other than her stating that, there's no other interactions like that. She doesn't ask you for a quick snack when she's getting "hungry" and she never feeds. Maybe tie in a plot point like that? Where she becomes dangerously low on the blood tank and needs to fill up. So unless the whole plot of the Dawnguard DLC only lasts for a few real life hours (which it doesn't obviously it takes many in-game days to finish it) she'll need to feed. Even if she's a pure-blood vampire. And with your dragonborn powers, maybe you can satisfy the "low blood tank" with another "life essence" if you know what i mean.. "wink wink" Also here's that Reddit copypaste of her experiences from story hints. I bolded the ones I think are the most important I'd say she's probably earned the right to the occasional sarcastic comment at this point. I'm actually kinda surprised that she hasn't been blessed by Sheogorath at this point, much less that she's a well adjusted person by Tamriel's Standards. Let me just give you the short-list of her numerous negative experiences. Getting to watch Daddy kill off most of the people he's supposed to rule over to get the attention of Molag Bal. Getting used as part of Daddy's payment for Pure-Blooded Vampirism to Molag Bal. Worst introduction to Sex possible, in the form of Molag's Balls. Likely having to watch her mother be used by Molag's Balls either before or after she got to "enjoy" that treatment. Potentially getting to watch her father be used by Molag's Balls. Getting to watch daddy's fear of Mortality become even worse now that he's practically immortal, until he eventually starts plotting to wipe out the sun. Her mother, who used to be the closest thing she had to a friend, basically stopped talking to her because stopping Harkon from succeeding had become a higher priority to her than taking care of, or spending time with, her daughter. She basically got pulled out of bed one night and ordered to flee the castle after her mother stole both of Harkon's Elder Scrolls. After she was removed from the only home she'd ever known, she was basically buried alive to sleep off a few centuries while Mommy waited for Daddy to die. She gets reawakened a long time later than she thought she would, and by a Vampire Hunter because someone in Aetherius or Oblivion has a twisted sense of humor (I blame Sheogorath). She manages to return home, only for her father to give her the coldest "Welcome Home" in recorded history, which also confirms that having his Wife basically kidnap their daughter and flee from him wasn't enough of a wake-up call for him to have snapped out of his madness even though he had centuries to do so. Split Paths Dawnguard Realizes that a Vampire Hunter showed her more kindness than her own Father... and that she'll likely never see them again. Realizes that her Father has become even crazier, and is probably shocked that it was even possible for that to happen. Flees and steals the Elder Scrolls from her Father, the same way her mother did, and likely gets a Death Sentence placed upon her by her own father as a result. Realizes that she knows literally nothing about the world since she's been out of the loop for several Eras. Realizes that the only place she might even be slightly safer, much less find allies, is a castle full to bursting with Vampire Hunters. Meets Isran. I can't imagine that was a pleasant experience, since he was holding her in the Torture Room. Forms her first friendship on record with an Vampire Hunter, who is also technically a Dragon. Realizes that the freaking Dawnguard, an order dedicated to killing everyone even remotely like her, is actually kinder to her than her family. Realizes that the only way to stop her Father will be to fulfill the prophecy in her own way, thereby preventing him from being able to do so himself. Probably notes that she's literally becoming more like Harkon to stop him. Meets her mother again and realizes that she's just as bad as her father. Gets to join in on a raid that kills everyone she even maybe knew before being put to sleep by a magic spell for a thousand years. Gets to help kill her own father, whom she apparently still loved due to memories of him from before he went insane. Clan Volkihar Watches as the first person in memory to treat her with even a little kindness risks their life by accepting her father's "Reward." Learns that her father is even crazier now than he was last time she saw him, and is probably disturbed by the fact that it was even possible for that to happen. Stays in the Castle because the former Vampire Hunter is going to need someone to watch his back in her father's Court. Realizes that her father will never be like he used to be... and that he needs to be stopped. Dedicates herself to stopping her Father the same way her Mother did, only she seeks to do it much more directly by fulfilling the prophecy in her own way. Probably realizes that she's becoming more like her mother by doing so. Meets up with her mother again and realizes that she's just as bad as her father. Helps her only friend kill her Father. Winds up living in that same castle, only with her Friend in charge due to a Klingon Promotion. So... yeah. The girl's earned the right to some Angst. If anything, she's actually showing too little angst after all that she's been through. Molag's Balls alone... ouch. And back to me I'm surprised Serana isn't a little.... well... mentally broken in some ways. She could well be a psychopath, abiet a non-severe psychopath but one nevertheless.
Airianna Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 I have ran Dawnguard (both sides) several times, with nearly 1800 hours of game time, and at least 24 characters... You forgot, the 2nd set of options for clan Volkihar... You help Harkan, and convince Serana it's for the best (not an easy task), then you get to assault the Dawnguard camp, killing every vampire hunter there is... With a mod, Dark Ally, you can be a vampire, and still run the Dawnguard side quest line. Just depends on how many Vampire Dusts you carry... My suggestopm with this mod addon. would be to make sure it is compatible with the Marriageable Serana mods. There are a few floating around, and no doubt some of you males have it added. I personally love being a vampire. Stronger, faster, sneakier, more powered spell casting.... Oh and for the most part a mortal immortal... Dang sunlight weakens me to no end. Running Better Vampires mod, the original, not the spin off.
nutluck Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Ok I got my new PSU so I am giving this mod a try on my next play. I just started and started with Camilla, when we got to the bridge you have the tryst there but Camilla did not remove her clothes. It was a oral animation/lesbian so I don't know if that was on purpose or if it was a bug with her not stripping. Anyways thought I would mention it.
Mord Sif Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 I've been out of action for a while but have got back into playing again recently and catching up with all the updates to various mods. I love the latest version of AA. My favourite mod is even better now! And while I was sorry to read you might not be adding more to it, FoxFingers, I'm excited about the Serana talk. The suggestion of having her consensually feed on the player every now and then has me particularly giddy, but whatever way it ends up working, if you do it, I'm really looking forward to. Serana is definitely the one remaining non-AA NPC I'd love to see get the AA treatment. If she does get added, I hope some of the dialogue allows us to tease her about resurrecting so many rabbits! It's always happened for me, at least. She's giving you a little something for the road and holds on until you've finished the quest before dishing up the full reward

Just a little somethin' somethin' to give the player a taste if they pass the persuade roll. ... I'm excited about the Serana talk. I'm working on her, yep. She's got nearly a thousand voiced lines to use, which is really great for a unique voice type. She's got a long quest line where she accompanies the player, so she's going to need a long romance arc to go with it. Right now I'm just trying to figure out how to play her. Does she need to work through all her various traumas with the player? Is she emotionally damaged and psychotic enough not to need to? Is she clingy because she's never had a friend and a lover? Is she traumatized by the Molag Bal experience? It's going to end up coloring her current personality as romances tend to. That feeding thing LaEspada proposed is a great place to start though, I agree. And there were a lot of other points in there which were good to look at. Just puzzling through it while I prep the voice files. Thanks!
Sacremas Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 With feeding already in mind and something so detailed it would probably be best if you make it exclusive Dawnguard side only, and possibly made a vampire version some other time when you've run through that questline. Diablerie aside it would be a bit weird for Serana to feed on a vampire PC.
nutluck Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 Ok cool, just wanted to confirm it was on purpose. I thought it was but since they ended up in a 69 and she was still wearing a dress it made it look a little weird so thought I would check to be sure.
nutluck Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 Ok questions and comments. Now with my new PSU I can actually play Skyrim and not have the computer shut down. So I have been playing around with this mod just to get a feel for it. Question - I just did the Ralof and Gerdur. Gerdur worked just fine but I could not get Ralof to have a dialogue choice. I am wondering if I had to talk to him before talking to Hod/Gerdur again to start sex with Gerdur for the first time. I did that and then tried to talk to Ralof and no options. If this is the case it would be nice if the Ralof options was still there for people like me that do it out of order. Comment - I love the mod, I love the dialogue and the pop up window for choices on sex. So far I have not had a chance to explore the mod much but so far i am very impressed and now more than ever hope you decided to do more NPC's. If you do and need help with anything at all feel free to ask. I would personally be happy to help in any way I could to help expand the mod.
nutluck Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 Ok just tried Adrianne's Indecent Proposal and I had the same issue as others I could not get it to start with out a console command. Maybe we are all missing a step? I tried talking to her father and husband to see if they would shed some light on things but nada. Could you maybe post in a spoiler tag step by step how the quest is suppose to work. I am wondering if we are suppose to talk to someone else to hear about her having trouble before going back to her. If so I am not sure who else to talk to.

Hope that helps.

I use Live Another Life Mod, I figured it was something like this on why so many of us was having problems figuring out how to start this one. Thanks for letting me know, I imagine it works just fine once you become Thane. I know for Lydia you have to and I was going to test that as well eventually. So I will retest Adrianna then, but I have faith it will work now that I know I was missing a step.

Only saying if you decided to do more and need any help, I would be willing to help in any way I could. I will take a look at those tools and see if I can figure out some of the stuff and see what all I feel like I could do. Lately I have used in helping test mods and writing dialogue and quest layouts for Solutions mod. Which I have been trying to make sure does not cause conflicts with this mod, but includes the same NPC's for those that don't use both mods. Though personally I think my dialogue sucks that I write.
