Other than a few asshole moderators and the like on Nexus (whom I agree should be eliminated from the site), it seems that both Nexus and LL censor pretty much the same things when all facts are known (copyright infringement, etc), with the major exception bring profanity, damnit. So what exactly is the difference between the two sites and why the hatred?

 

That is not to say I love Nexus, which I do not and "they" know that for a fact, but here the banhammer strikes loud and true as well, and seemingly more randomly than on Nexus....on Nexus everyone is "potentially" banned and know it will happen to them eventually even if they do nothing (that is how Nexus operates and why they are such assholes).... they fear it but expect it....here, people have the illusion of being in the right and that they will never be banned......then BOOM! Which is worse?

While true that both sites have very similar rules, on Nexus the ban-hammer swings immediately upon first offense in most cases. Unless DarkOne likes the mod developer, then they get a reprieve. Look the case about Willow83 (name?) - a temporary ban for flagrantly flaunting the rules. On LL, the ban-hammer is held at bay. Ashal and the moderators here will ask you to remove the offending material, ask you not to do it again, etc. Unless the offense is especially egregious (finally get to use that word, and appropriately I believe ), they try to work with the mod developer to correct the situation (see the case of Triratna - tried really hard to get banned according to his (her?) own post on another site, but Ashal kept trying to work with him/her).

 

The other thing is the general lack of "community" over there. The mod devs themselves are good most of the time, but take a look at the requests for help there. They are met with a hell of a lot more derision than users here. Here, yeah sometimes a question will get answered with a RTFT (Read the Fucking Thread), but that usually when the questions is something like: "It doesn't work, help!!!!!" No info, no load order, etc, so they get the "read the thread" answer - which they should get. However, people here will help the most clueless noobs (trust me, used to be one until recently) well beyond what most people on Nexus will.

But I have seen some swinging done here too, for the same "legitimate" reasons as at Nexus. Yes, N goes further, but this site likes to give the impression that it is all welcoming and whatever......but then ban! At least on Nexus you know you will eventually be banned for "whatever".

 

One thing that bothers me is all the X117 arguments. There seems to be such a split personality here. Even the head dude says he uses x117 stuff, but at the same time no one should talk about it or upload it (from my reading of the forums anyway). I am a woman and 5 foot 1 inch on my tippy toes. All the x117 stuff is great for my character, which I base after myself and to call me a pedophile because I want my characters short like me just fucking pisses me off to no end. Ban me for this if you like, that is okay. At least I know I have the moral high ground and you have become Nexus.

 

Edit: And by short, I mean short. Not flat chested. I am not talking children here, I am talking short adults.

 

Edit2: I even get the feeling that Nexus is more accommodating to X117 than you are, as most of my x117 mods are downloaded from there. WTF?

Well for starters the fact that you can even post this and not so much as get a warning, is a pretty good example of one of the major differences. You can post all the x117 stuff you like here, as long as you don't start posting children engaged in sex. Short characters are not indicative of underage. Triratna had a child mod (children of Annuad) that was perfectly fine (minus the copyright stuff) as long as the clearly minor characters didn't cross the line into having sex.

 

Of course you are welcome to think anything you like. I have not seen anyone just outright banned on this site as long as I have been around. Ashal has a policy of issuing at minimum one warning prior to banning. Obviously spam bots are the exception.

If you browse the ban pages over at the nexus (which can be kinda funny if it wasn't so sad) you will see some really tame posts that go folks banned. I am not saying you posted anything bad at all, at least not per LL standards anyway. However, over at the nexus try questioning on of the moderators in public or chat and you won't like what happens. They are "really" touchy about that kind of stuff. I really don't understand why but it is what I have seen.

 

As to what you can get away with here.....

Pretty much anything except violating the few rules we have posted. Those rules are simple and straight forward. If you have particular questions you can always PM one of the moderators and we will get you an answer fairly quickly.

The ban-hammer does get swung here, just not with regularity, and not with the moderator glee like it does on Nexus. And again, unless it something really egregious (only thing I can think of is threatening someone), they tend to be forgiving for early offenses. Hell, even the morons who state they are using a cracked copy of the game are told to just shut up about it, and are banned if they continue to talk about it. As they should be, they're morons for stating anything about it. I see it on Nexus all they time and the offender is immediately banned there (if a moderator is paying attention) for stating they use a cracked copy. This is the rule from here on using a pirated copy: "6) Piracy is not provided here. It's not our business where you get a game, but you will not get help with piracy here, and helping somebody else pirate is strictly against the rules. I've never really followed the arguments about x117, or any child-like body mod. They just never appealed to me for the game, so I never looked at the mods or the arguments. Short women appeal to me (a lot), just not the more child-like mods that are here and on Nexus.

ringgold99, I'm not sure what you're getting at. It seems like you've actually already answered your own challenge/question about this thread and the two sites. It's not that the rules are so different. Both sites operate under the same US laws. What's different is in how those rules are interpreted and carried out. You said so your self that it's the moderators over at Nexus that suck, not their rules. Isn't that we've been saying here in this thread?

I think the worst I've gotten is a "warning" for saying that I don't consider any modern bethesda game anything more than an action game with RPG elements, then the thread vanished because anotehr mod posted agreeing with me.

 

However, let me make clear I don't really care if I am banned there.

I tried the community, it sucked, I went back to just using my account to download shit.

 

If they banned me I'd just evade it, easy enough to do, I mean I remember evading bans so much on the bethesda forums (along with others) that they disabled avatars for a while when the old Fallout fanbase (the one they shat on) trolled the fuck out of their forums.
