problem with nexus?

Ok' date=' back to dumping on the Nexus:

I find it hilarious that I am seeing more and more 1st time posters here asking for help installing a mod they got from the nexus. Things are so F'd up over there that no one helps anybody else and/or folks are even afraid to ask......

[/quote']

Not really surprised at that. People get banned for simple infractions these days, that they wouldn't have even batted an eyelash over 10 years ago for.

Well, some the nexus noob refuges are terrible nuisances i can tell you that.

It's like some Indonesian tourist wandering around the buckingham palace.

Generally, They seems hate to read and do research before hand.

It was okay at first, But this keep going ever since last month and it made us looks an idiots for stating out the obvious.

While on one hand I do agree....on the other I don't. I still remember the days of being a noob and am loath to just slam the door on anyone who asks a question. I generally cut a bit of slack to anyone who has a post count under 100. I figure they are still discovering where stuff is on the site. After that I get a bit more "harsh" with them......:P Course my bite is not really all that bad...it is more like a 90 year old guy without his dentures gumming and slobbering on you.....more gross than anything else....:D

I have never once found it soooooo difficult to answer a frikking question' date=' are people sooo full of themselves that they cannot be bothered to answer a question. Everyone seems to forget that they too were once NOOBS as it's called. I would hate to think what this world would be like if no one ever asked a fucking question for fear of being told to STFU or banned or whatever self righteous bullshit someone wants to tack onto it. people act like it's the same person asking the same question over and over when in reality it is not, OH but I'm to fucking good to be bothered with your trifle questions so STFU!!!!.

Sorry but this kind of bullshit pisses me off. No one is any better then anyone else, we are all human for gods sake, people need to start acting like it. I would like to see one person on the Nexus or any other site that has created human life and could be called God. Not Gonna Happen!

APPLAUSE good show

here is a reason to hate the nexus and why people search for answers anywhere else but there; also pathetic about this nexus thread is that the moderators joined in.

Ya the link went to the second page by accident. sry bout that. I find the whole thread to reek of arrogance, lacking empathy and just an overall stench of unfriendliness. I think all this thread does is make people afraid to ask question because if by chance they ask a "stupid" question they will be labelled the ANG.

And it wasn't what BBen said, it was that he said anything at all. On the first page someone posted that it should have been posted in the official rant page. It is now on the official nexus wiki page too??? Fuck that. Arrogant cunts.

I don't know, the original post just irks me. It is not inclusive, it gives off negative frequencies. I mean what if it is a 13 year old kid asking a noob question. It is just so.. ah meh

Yeah, not the warmest welcome. That whole ANG (annoying new guy) thread stems from an elitist club attitude. I'd never suggest having a post like that put in the face of a new student or new employee. It says more about the people already there and nothing really about new people. New people will always act like new people. How the elders respond is the better measure of communities. Those who don't see anything wrong with it probably have just been at Nexus too long or similar sites with similar attitudes.

Plus, there's people like me who kind of enjoying getting to be the one who tells new people one of the most important things they'll ever learn in modding communities, revealing the secrets of readme's! I just leveled them up with one sentence! Bamm! Yep, just doing my job, no need to thank me, just your friendly neighborhood wacko who feels good helping people.

There will be no more crazy talk of "helping people" in this thread! :P

I mean, what if someone wandered in and took that post out of context and thought the nexus was a helpful place? Think of the absolute horror of the crushing disappointment they would have when they were insulted and possibly even banned over there for asking a simple question.....:P

ROFL!!!!!!!! :D:D:D:D

Hah, and you're one of the biggest super-vigilante guys going around randomly helping people. I seem to remember a member here thanking their anonymous hero with an entire thread in your honor. Probably reading this from your batcave or wherever you hide from the real modos doing their jobs keeping forums clean of those oh so innocent nubes stubbling into trouble and asking for help.

:huh: <=== someone in troube!

should Greg help amid the annoyed? ===> :@:@:@:@:@:@

Yeah, we know how it ends.

I guess it's easier to ban someone than to simply say "No' date=' we won't allow a mod like that."

[/quote']

Sorry, but that moron should be banned for general stupidity :-/. Didn't say what game this was for, but if it's skyrim, there's a mod that allows you to put your own music in the game world. Use it myself to put better music in the taverns. However, I do agree that normally something like that should have gotten a rap on the knuckles first - unless this was his 3+ offense possibly? Maybe has a history of general stupidity and rules ignoring? Maybe he could have phrased the question better, but then again, it was TVD that banned him, so maybe he never had a chance...

My point is he got banned for asking a question, for requesting a mod. Even though he does seem to know that there's an issue with copyright, what's to stop the next person who only asks a question because he genuinely doesn't know from getting banned? Or take copyright completely out of the equation. What's to stop them from instabanning anyone for just asking if they could, for example, make edits to an abandoned mod and upload it? Doesn't mean they did it. Just means they thought about it and asked. Does that hypothetical person deserve to be banned just for asking a question?

Well, as I said (tongue completely embedded in cheek) "he should be banned for general stupidity."

HOWEVER, I went and looked the TOS, and frankly, nowhere in there is it against the rules to ask a question like his. He is asking someone to do something illegal, however the TOS doesn't really cover that. According to TVD, he was banned for:

"Advocating copyright violation for a radio mod."

There are 2 sections in the TOS that mention copyrights:

"The posting of copyrighted material, unless the copyright is owned by you or you have consent from the owner of the copyrighted material, is strictly prohibited on any Nexus site. This includes linking to sites that contain copyrighted material used without permission of the copyright holder. Legal inquiries regarding copyright infringement are taken very seriously on Nexus sites and we will work with any legal body to identify and bring to justice anyone who might use a Nexus site to share copyrighted material."

and

"Absolutely no copyrighted work is to be used without permission of the original creator. This includes content from other games, from DLCs, music creators or from other file authors. This also includes members from countries that do not recognise copyright laws (such as Russia)."

He did "advocate copyright violation" as TVD stated, but he did not POST copyrighted material (as far as we know) which is what the TOS states. So yes, you are right that they shouldn't have banned him for just this one question. HOWEVER, my point is that we do not know the whole story on that user. Did he break other rules that were stated directly in the TOS? Has he made a general jackass nuisance of himself there and this was the final straw? Without further evidence, in this one case, we cannot judge (although the fact TVD didn't list anything else in the banning leads me to believe it was this one question - but we don't know for sure). If anyone wants to search through their forums and check this guy out, have at it. But I hold by my statement: It was a dumbass question to ask on a site KNOWN for their views and their banning history. It is the same kind of dumbass question seen there when an idiot flat out states that they pirated a copy of the game. You just don't ask those kind of dumbass questions. Period. And he knew what he was asking for was wrong by what he said in his post. He was a dumbass.

Well said, lemonbalm.

Plus, there's a rainbow mod that puts a copy&pasted trademark on a werewolf texture with the mod author using pretty much those exact words, saying Hasbro probably wouldn't care.

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/284

Normally, Nexus only allows for certain cases of recreated textures or covers of songs where there is no copy&pasting (it can look like such and such but only if you made it yourself and didn't import/export or copy/past) or permission was given, but not always, not if they deem no one would care, as in the example I just linked to. However, if they do deem someone would care, then you're banned for merely suggesting it, not even trying to upload, just requesting???

Steam is actually more lenient on the topic of music. There are Steam mods that actually add copyrighted non-original or author owned music to Skyrim, which is obvious by the large size of the mod files to be downloaded (I'm subscribed to one that's in two parts because it's so big). The uploader even states that this mod was deleted from Nexus.

Would I be forgiven for thinking that the Nexus=The Empire/The Province of Skyrim and Mods/LightOne=The Thalmor? As Nexus:Once great. Now crap, thanks to the Mods. The Empire.Once Great, now average/good.Thanks to the Thalmor. Also "Age of Aggression" sums up what has to be done pretty well IMHO.

If they're on some sort of legit payroll then we can't really say much but the way they ban you is annoying, it's like they're in possession of an unlimited ammo machine gun and just shooting anything that moves.

I'm still of the view that the Nexus and banning comes down to a simple concept:

Well your just no fun. :P

Luckily I'm of the view that this thread need not be rational, logical or make any sense at all. It is a SAFE place for people to vent their personal feelings about an organization that has let them down :exclamation:

That probably is an extremely accurate portrayal of DarkOne. DarkOne did used to spend lots of time on 4Chan before becoming a modo over his own site. That's the result.

at first I didn't know that there is something wrong with nexus, and when I lurking in here I found some hatred toward nexus,

then few days later when I see a mod that make children to become your follower in nexus, I check the comment tab, and see some people wrote(I think its joke) like "lol, pedo bear mod" & "pedobear approves"

aaaaaannnnnddddd

BOOOOOOMMMM!!! They got banned.

its simple as that....

I think they should be more open-minded.
