Yeah, I also think this could lead to issues. There are a few mods on my resume which I haven't uploaded here on LL because I remembered: "Shit, I actually have to write a full modpage again for this, dont I? -.- " And So I´ve simply put it off and uploaded it on my Discord only. And I have the Advantage of passable English skills and a few existing modpages I could use as templates (which obviously is not a given for everyone). And many capable modders or creators in generall simply aren't that good in the presentation or essay-writing department. So I would suggest to put more scrutiny towards the uploaded content, rather the its modpage. Which should already be covered with the earlier proposed low-effort rule. Sidenote: That ricardussingha "person" which originally prompted me to open this topic has spammed out another 14 sims on Tuesday alone and another 8 (and counting) since yesterday. Are you sure this isn't a bot? Edited August 16, 2024 by Pamatronic 1

That makes no sense. 🤔 1

Skömer Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 The only way to improve mod page quality without severely reducing the popularity of the site for smaller modders I can see is to implement some sort of wikipedia style editing system with changelog and multiple authors for mod pages. But past experiences with changes to the site (arbitrary reordering of pictures with no way to reverse/change it, removal of various post edit features) make me believe the site will never be able to support such a functionality. As for people complaining about Sims spam I think people have just getting used to algorithms taking care to cleanup their feeds like any other (social) media website has nowadays. Since I don't see any algorithm curated feed coming here any time soon, maybe we can at least get a setting to filter out specific tags, categories or authors from our feeds? 1
travelmedic Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 I think some people are getting more worked up about "mod page description" than they need to. Depending on the mod, a single picture will suffice. Descriptions can be informative, yet concise and to-the-point. I don't think Ashal expects anyone to channel their inner Dostoyevsky, unless they're putting up a complex mod with lots of options (most mods are not). True, bigger mods with lots of moving parts will require more description, but the time spent posting and describing the mod is probably just a small fraction of the time spent creating it. When I put up my one small mod here on LL, I only needed a single picture, and writing the description only took me maybe 10 minutes. 10 minutes work for something that will last a lifetime. Yet that was still sufficient to garner a couple thousand downloads for a small mod that mods another mod. @Ashal and the moderators, I don't envy you. No matter what you do, someone's going to be unhappy (or at least invent a reason to complain about it). 3

Why the topic, then?

Skyrim modding have been dead for a very long time. If I was the site owner I would remove whatever "spam filter" in place for the Sims section. Seems like releasing stuff now is called "spam" because Skyrim primadonnas can't have a spotlight.

It was quickly changed so CAS Sims don't dominate the latest files on the forums. They do still dominate the front page tho. The topic now shifted to spam still, but trying to get a little bit of details and not just like 6 different uploads of a CAS Sim with only the sims Name as the information. Its a discussion on wether or not a bit of effort needs to be added or not. Plus a bit of discussion about Patreon and how many of these Sims Spammers use LL as their advertisement board, post 1 Sim, lock 6 behind a paywall, that one is free here, but with Patreon, get the rest. Stuff like that. The discussion has gotten a bit... derailed, especially from a person or two here.

The aggressive back-and-forth is completely unnecessary. The two communities, in both the "LL v Nexus" and "Bethesda v Sims" senses, are different and operate differently. There is no need to argue about any of this. If the thread continues in this unproductive and argumentative manner, it will be locked. The proposed rule will be tweaked and implemented as necessary using the feedback provided, as will a rule about collections of smaller uploads. Additional issues around Patreon spamming, AI content, and crediting will also be examined and worked into things as we feel appropriate. 3 hours ago, krzp said: Nexusmods hit an all-time high record in Skyrim's downloads in a single day like a week ago, so claims about Skyrim's modding untimely demise are a little bit over exaggerated. AManNamedNorville Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 Honestly, I'd just recommend allowing users to set a preference for what they can see if possible. This way Skyrim modders can see their Skyrim mods, and Simmers can see their Sims mods. 4
That was never actually the problem... it was the fact that the mod site was running out of storage space... and at the same time this site was becoming a hotspot for petty criminal "Sims" spammers.

fujoperv Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 Subscriber, modder, and longtime lurker here: This site doesn't really have many issues. Most people complain about seeing content they don't want to see when they can literally browse categories that don't have that content. It's as simple as that. Sometimes mod creators will have little ego fits over not getting as much attention as more popular games, but emotional outbursts are not valid things to make rules about. This site is for people putting tits in video games. Take a step back. Ashal and the other mods do a good job balancing the moderation, but they are occasionally understaffed and more importantly underfunded for the amount of money it costs to run a forum. The only actual issue right now is running out of server storage, which could definitely be helped a bit by finding a fair way to remove obviously low effort cash grab content, as well as some way to discourage spamming links to patreon pages. Modders should be allowed to seek some kind of compensation for their work but there's a limit to reasonable self advertising. The problem being that the moderation manpower required for a lot of policies like this is outside of the scope of the current mod team size. Overall, most of the site's issues are incredibly minor and actively looking at content you don't like because you aren't browsing categories that interest you and then getting mad is pretty silly. I don't mod any of the major game categories, most of my interests fall into the uncategorized stuff, and I am easily able to just go look at content in that section to see stuff I'm interested in and avoid the shit I don't care about. 7

Keine Zeitverschwendung beim Hochladen >.<... Of course, Skyrim modding is not dead - it is enjoying a resurgence after the disgrace of "StarField". Judging modding based on new uploads alone says a lot about the author of such claims... because for me, such types are the worst mod authors there are -> they don't maintain their mods and don't develop them further... probably because it wouldn't be worth it. I'm currently monitoring at least 5 major mods for Skyrim here on LL and am also involved in their further development (via feedback as a user). And this happens in the form of UPDATES... which don't even appear in this upload list!
LittleWhiteNeko Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 I've only been watching this thread silently before but I feels like I have to say something I think that the main point of this rant thread is mostly about the flooding/spamming of "small effort" (whatever that means) CAS content that effectively almost fill the "New Files" and "New Topics" very quickly This in turn will hinder the visibility of other modders who unfortunately uploaded just before the spam and ended up not getting highlighted in those New Files category. I personally do not mind seeing mods for another game in the New Files and New Topic category, but seeing it filled by spam do make me feel sad for other modders, especially for the aspiring new modders who just uploaded their first mods and ended up missing the spotlight. And I see that once in a while both sides are missing the points and starts adding more unrelated points or even starts to attack each other. The last one by Maglog is quite apparent and is also ironically breaking the rule. Spoiler Bickering, drama queens, or public calling out a fellow forum member will not be tolerated. Posts/threads perpetrating any sort of attack or drama will be removed on sight and warnings given to involved parties. This is a forum for helping each other build and mod, leave the drama at the door. If you disagree with someone, counter their argument, instead of publicly calling them out and shame them in order to get more support. As for violation of rules, report button is there for a reason. I honestly feels like this thread is getting more and more off track and unproductive. 6
