Psalam Posted June 21, 2022 Posted June 21, 2022 I heard this on NPR while driving this morning. I think it sums it all up nicely. https://www.npr.org/2022/06/21/1106320928/south-korean-software-engineer-etched-his-farewell-to-internet-explorer-in-stone#:~:text=Press-,South Korean software engineer etched his farewell to Internet Explorer, tool to download other browsers." 1

Guest Posted June 22, 2022 Posted June 22, 2022 It deserves to die, so many hours of coding just to support IE.
Idyll Posted June 22, 2022 Posted June 22, 2022 Isn't it called something like "Microsoft Edge" nowadays? ?

myuhinny Posted July 16, 2022 Posted July 16, 2022 I always liked this one for internet explorer. It was only a matter of time before it was finally killed off. I stopped using it years ago back when it did a forced shady update. Spoiler 3
Dr Pepper, PhD Posted July 24, 2022 Posted July 24, 2022 I'm the weirdo who actually will miss IE. IE6 is weirdly nostalgic and I recall using it as late is even 2010-2011 (even though it didn't support transparent pngs)
legendarytoyou Posted July 25, 2022 Posted July 25, 2022 I seem to be the small few that like Opera a lot more for some reason. Yes its Chrome based but its the quintessential, "gamers browser," if you ask me. Hope there are others who use it was well. As for IE6 it had its but time to retire. RIP Internet Explorer.

When they switched to Chromium, it just didn't work properly for a very long time, long enough for me to jump ship to Firefox. Since then I've jumped to Chrome, since everything is Chromium now anyway...

I boots up fastest and runs javascript faster than Chrome and I hate Google dominating everything.

You are correct that Firefox is still running Webkit, but since basically every other browser has gone to Chromium (and Chrome itself is estimated to hold ~66% of the market by itself currently), Webkit is falling out of favor. Many websites, especially ones I have to use professionally, just don't work properly on Firefox anymore and haven't for several years. For general information purposes, Firefox holds 3.26% market share, which is officially less than MS Edge's 4.13%. MS Edge is also the 3rd most used browser according to these statistics, edged out only by Chrome (obvious) and Safari (mainly due to iPhones). MS Edge and Safar are also both Chromium browsers. That means nearly 75% of the browser market, just using the top (3) browsers, is Chromium. It's no wonder developers don't bother with any other engines anymore. https://gs.statcounter.com/browser-market-share Edited July 26, 2022 by davisev5225
