What is This Mod?

An Extension for my Prison Mod "Prison Alternative" which adds new events to the Experience.

 

Events are Themed around Bad Ends and Executions, inspired by the Original Mod by Torm.

Just a bit less Buggy.

 

 

Requirements

-Prison Alternative (see above), and its requirements.

-Zap8(+)

 

Installation

-Install with Mod manager of your choice and rum FNIS/Nemesis

-When Loading/Starting a game, new Events will automatically register themselves and will show up in the "Event" Tab of Prison Alternative´s MCM.

About NPC Executions

-This Feature should be considered as an Encore, rather than an meaningful Gameplay Element. NPC executions require manual activation via the chain on the Left side of the Gallows.

Any NPC can be "marked" as follower by selecting them in the console and typing "setplayerteammate 1". This will make them visible to the Device and a valid candidate for execution. They Also have to be somewhere in Windhelm in order to be detected by the script.

 

 

 

Incompatibilities

-Devious Devices (soft incompatibility. If you know what you are doing, you can use this alongside DD, but it requires caution)

-The Original "Bad Ends" by Torm

-City overhauls for Windhelm (results might vary.)

-This mod makes navmesh changes to "CandleheartHallExterior" and "WindhelmBridge3". So it will conflict with mods which edit the same Area. Putting this mod far down in the load order COULD make it work)

 

Troubleshooting

-If you get Black screen while in Prison: Go into PA´s MCM and manually reset the Registry and re-Register the Events. check if all Events are correctly displayed in the List. If not, repeat.

-Its recommended to use a new save when using this mod. While older saves seem to work in the vast majority of cases, using an older save can sometimes result in scenes becoming stuck.

-You are on SSE and the Ankle chains have missing textures? use this and let it overwrite Zap files: SSE_ZapAnkleChainFix.zip

So, gave this a quick test using cheats and ran into a few issues whereas Prison Alternative had worked fine before. This MAY be a result of me installing it mid-game and not giving it 30 in-game days to cook, so there is that grain of salt and having Bad Ends on my computer lingering (though it should have been disabled and not in the save I tested with), so take with a grain of salt.

 

Main issue is that the dialogue seems to either not trigger, or clips so fast it can't be read.

 

-- on Early Release, the dialogue doesn't trigger at all. If I use a cheat to move a character close enough for a started interaction, the only option is to try and escape.

 

-- On End of the Line, sometimes there's a quick bit of dialogue at the gallows, but then everything locks up and it doesn't seem like anything moves on. The gallows and all are all working fine, just needs to be manually triggered (IE, moving one of the guards to the lever)

 

Other than that and some spelling, seems like it's working fine. Good to see this earlier than I thought, I was expecting it next weekend :)

 

EDIT: And tried a complete new game; seems I had the same issues come up. Anything else I could try to see if it helps?

Note that this is with the base game and mods, so no Dawnguard, Homestead, or Dragonborn.

I didn't test it with this mod, but i know that DD causes issues with the Parent mod PA. while it might be possible to get them working together, i have no patience to deal with something as invasive as DD, so i marked it as incompatible.

That fixed it. I thought I had that installed already. :/ Guess I uninstalled it at some point.

On a new Game: Everything works fine, till i get escorted to the gallows with follower. Execution never starts. Last Message from the NPC is: "... this Rope is for You. Move!"

On a Savegame: I have two MCM Prison Alternativ Entrys. Getting taken to Jail, using Bed, Screen fates to black and nothing happens from there on. can open console, anything else is locked.

 

While i am looking forward for your other expansions i would really love if you could add the npc executions from bad ends. while slightly bugged, i enjoyed em a lot.

I do adore the idea of public execution in Skyrim. It just fits. Especially seeing Roggvir's execution and the intro scenes with the imperials. Its baffled me that those are the only ones we see (There may be a few more but still not a lot). I look forward to seeing the future of this mod, and as well as Prison Alternative. 

Should we expect more mods like this one in the future for other holds?

Tested it out, had a couple issues in my game. FYI I have Toys installed, DD is listed as incompatible, which I do not have, but was wondering if Toys had any conflicts. Anyway, the bugs I ran into:

  • textures worked fine on most bondage, but the iron leg cuffs were purple with no texture loading
  • AI march hit an obsticle on the way to gallows and locked up for about 1-2min before proceeding. I have no mesh or navmesh edits in windhelm besides SMIM
  • the camera completely wigged out once the PC was in her noose. Pretty much any time I run into animations (Komator was the worst at this, was unbearable) that take control of the camera, it breaks the camera. For the record, I am using Smoothcam, so possibly just an incompatibility issue with that mod
  • the animations on gallows did not work, PC just stood there. The trap door tripped though, and the NPC dialog worked. The PC just stood there the whole time though.

Didn't see any conflicts in MO2, def something in my load order does not like this though. I'll try it again some other time though, looks interesting. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. I've ran them together before and had no issues, but it's not like I've spent a ton of time in Skyrim's prisons. I'll give it a go next character.

I just tested it. Several different attempts:

- "Early release", if during the last scene turn the camera in the opposite direction, then the character will also turn and the guard will not be able to throw it (it will "fall" to the floor next to him and the scene will be bugged).


- "Early release", if you choose to escape and fail in conjunction with the "Defeat" mod, the hanging scenario will begin, but the player's character will not be subject to the scripted route of movement, but will be under my control. The hanging scene will play, but with an empty gallows, since the script to put my character in the loop did not work. If at the same time there was a follower with me, he will be hanged.


- "Hanging" - I don't know why the forced change of the camera angle to the first-person view was added during the execution, it looks completely unnecessary, and besides, very often the scene bugging (the character does not hang on a rope, but falls to the ground, but the guards say that I died). Also, when you press the movement keys during the first-person view, the character can exit (!) from the loop, as from any ZAZ furniture.

Try again. sometimes Skyrims path-finding just decides to nope out. There´s nothing i can do about that unfortunately ?.

There are leftovers from an earlier incompatible version of PA present. just don't use that savegame anymore.

I had this report earlier, but i cannot reproduce it. The Ankle cuffs in use there are unaltered Zap items, So suspect this is related to having a faulty version of zap installed?

Try to get the things via console (zbfAnkleIronHDT, or something along those lines) and see if the problem persists.

I know that some mods fuck up certain zap items (DD for example).

This is caused by an inherent design flaw of the Gallows itself. Once a character enters the noose, a small Havoc dummy is spawned behind the character to control the rope. It has a colli-Box and can therefore interfere with the camera. this is more pronounced for larger-than-average-characters. Try changing the viewing angle, this usually helps.

Happens sometimes on existing saves, not entirely sure why, but using a new one helps.
