Azurawhisperer Posted November 14, 2020 Posted November 14, 2020 So after getting everything sorted out with SSE, I've come across an issue I am not able to figure out. I never had this problem before even with my game heavily modded. My FPS continues to bounce around 25 - 30. When vanilla and set to low settings due to the game not recognizing my GPU, it was at 60 fps. When I changed the settings on the game to high or ultra, it would decrease to 30 - 45. Modded is the same thing. I've troubleshoot my Nvidia control panel and can't seem to figure out what else I need to do in order to get it running. Any other advice would be appreciative. And yes, the test was with everything before it was modded. I didn't know the new update caused such issues... I may do a few rollbacks come to think of it. Not a bad idea.

Here's my enb file and a snip shot of my Device Manager. For my other games as an example, Kingdom Come has no issue and that's a GPU powerhouse game. COD has no issue. Halo has no issue. CSGO has no issue. ESO has no issue. Even Fallout 4 and it's still broken, had no issue with FPS. SSE is the only one with this issue. Not sure if stated before and if not, I'll just make it clear. In my vanilla test run, no mods AND no enb was present. This was a fresh install. When I attempt to launch, it clearly stated that my GPU was not detected. In short, put me at the lowest setting. At that moment, I was at 60 fps. When I adjusted to Ultra, that's when the FPS drop to 25 - 30. Again, no mods and enb. And after I uploaded all my mods, still same result. Not trying to come across a smart one or anything. I feel I wasn't clear in my original post; therefore, rehashing maybe a better picture. Hope this helps. enblocal.ini

I had trouble with skyrim not recognizing my monitor resolution. turned out it was an issue in the vanilla pref file. makes me think that this could be a similar problem for you get bethini to cleanup and optimize your pref file as well as get it to recognize the gpu maybe in skyrimpref.ini look for [Launcher] sD3DDevice="NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti" and make sure your vid card is registered in it if not there may be a way to force it in

I should've mention that in my prior comment because I know after multiple researches about this issue that was the number one go to with low fps issues. Even SSE Fixes isn't fixing it.

SimianJyhad Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 Honestly I dont believe its your mods since you have the trouble with a vanilla fresh install at max settings. you said you rolled back your video driver so I strongly doubt its a driver issue (though that is still possible. driver issues can be stubborn bitchs) it is unlikely to be your ENB since you said you get the issue with vanilla no ENB. do you use MO to launch SE? MO has its own copy of skyrim.ini and skyrimpref.ini which do not always match those found in the skyrim folder. Honestly I would completely disable the extra processing by Nvidia control panel/experience , I ran into a problem a while back where it turned out my lag troubles were caused by Nvidia control panel not playing nice with the game all of a sudden. just trying to reduce possibilities

I don't have a "high end rig", but I can play a heavily modded Oldrim at 50-55 fps, and on SE I'm getting 30-35 fps. I originally built my SE mod list starting with the STEP guidelines and then adding SL mods. Disappointed with the performance I've been removing mods and starting new games, but so far I'm still stuck at 30-35 fps. I have an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M and an Intel i7-6700Q CPU w/32G. My NVIDIA drivers are at the 456.38 version, I have the 457.30 drivers downloaded but haven't installed them yet after I saw the warning about them earlier in this thread. My skyrimprefs.ini contains this: sD3DDevice="NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M" So it should be using the video card correctly.

Sometime back in August, I was having no performance issues even with my game heavily modded. Vanilla was an automatic breeze without needing to OC. I am wondering if there’s a bug somewhere. Just has not be identified, and the bug is in the actual game itself vs mods, enb, drivers, etc. kind of like Unofficial Patches.

I'm going to try adding back my mods now, and I think I now have a playable game, but I still wonder why Oldrim runs so much better, even at the higher resolution and with an ENB.

See, my Resolution is at 1920 x 1080. Could that be the culprit? Find it hard to believe seeing before then I always played at that resolution. i’m going to check and see when the last time sse itself was updated. If I can’t find a resolution though, hell with sse then. I never had these many problems with oldrim, even at 32bit. Only issues it gave me was that micro stutter cancer, but what sse is doing is ludicrous. My card should be dominating the game.

If the textures you use don't fit into VRAM, you gonna lose a lot of FPS thanks to PCIx thrashing. All processing takes VRAM - AA, texture filtering, and Ambient Occlusion AKA SSAO which turns on by default in SSE as soon as you set graphics quality to anything above "Low", IIRC. Unless your video card has 8+ GB of RAM, go light on textures in SSE. Disable SSAO in Beth.ini SSE is VRAM hungry. And I've seen texture overhauls that made even my RGX2080Ti 11GB shit bricks. Don't remember the name, I've removed it, but it had a lot of downloads and endorsements, I guess people were looking at pretty pictures and then went on blaming SSE for the performance hits. 4k textures for every damn little detail, seriously. P.S. By the way, *60 cards aren't exactly "high-end". *70 and *80 are. Those with numbers ending with 60 are mid-range. 40-50 are "entry-level". And those below aren't gaming GPUs at all.

Unless your video card has 8+ GB of RAM, go light on textures in SSE. Disable SSAO in Beth.ini SSE is VRAM hungry. And I've seen texture overhauls that made even my RGX2080Ti 11GB shit bricks. Don't remember the name, I've removed it, but it had a lot of downloads and endorsements, I guess people were looking at pretty pictures and then went on blaming SSE for the performance hits. 4k textures for every damn little detail, seriously. P.S. By the way, *60 cards aren't exactly "high-end". *70 and *80 are. Those with numbers ending with 60 are mid-range. 40-50 are "entry-level". And those below aren't gaming GPUs at all. True.
