Queen Bee Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 I'm really surprised to see no one's made a forum topic for this game yet. It comes out next week, and I'm super psyched. Ever since the first Bioshock, I have loved the series for its unique take on the FPS, and Bioshock Infinite is shaping up to be the most amazing of them to date. So let's hear it, Bioshock fans. What are your predictions? What are you most excited about? What worries you? What do you detest? Got a link with news or pics or fanart? Share it! Let's see what you got, peeps.
polluxval Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 I consider myself a fan of Bioshock simple because I love most things related to the US years beetween 1900-1960 (Like fallout and mafia movies, etc.) Even written a book related to this "theme" some years ago for a contest (I lose but I polished my stle since then and I'll try again). Anyway, I finished both Bioshock 1 and 2 like 5 or 6 times already and of course prepurchsed Infinite a while back. But, I really hope the game rocks, otherwise I'll not feed my cats for a few days just to share the pain with them..... (I'm just joking about the last part.... or maybe not?)
Queen Bee Posted March 20, 2013 Author Posted March 20, 2013 Yeah, I'm very attracted to the steampunk style of the series. I really like that this one is even further into the past, set in 1912, yet with an equally impressive array of technology. Steam powered mobile suits, the terrifying Songbird, and the rollercoster-like rails that you ride hanging from a hook. Add to that Vigors (this game's version of Plasmids) with the power to levitate your enemies, collect their bullets out of the air and throw them back, or send a flock of crows to peck their eyes out...jesus, I'm so exited!
ChancellorKremlin Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 I vaguely remember Bioshock, actually, I think I'm confusing it with Systemshock, not sure if I actually played Bioshock. Tried to play Bioshock 2 but I got a few game-breaking bugs at the beginning and never really continued with it. Maybe I should give it a go?

Yea, you must try bioshock (systemshock its its spiritual predecesor). Last time I said the same thing with Crysis series and seemed like you didn't enjoy it, so maybe wait for a second opinion. (but it still worth it )
Jerbsinator Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 It seems that most people that loved System Shock 2, hate Bioshock, I guess because of removing the RPG elements and horror but I found Bioshock to be an awe inspiring game. I mean, an FPS underwater and you can watch the facility coming down around you while you use your crazy powers to survive. This game nailed it's atmosphere 100%, there is not many games like this that can consistently make your jaw drop. I never played Bioshock 2, mostly because I'm just not interested in being a big daddy, even though that is cool and all, it just wouldn't have the same feeling as the first game. As for Infinite, I am excited for this game, if it nails the atmosphere of the first game then I am sold, and it really looks like it will nail it. And I know that it is based in the sky, but I hope the game still has that claustrophobic feel like the first game had. Fingers crossed for this game.

I'm playing through Bioshock 2 right now, in fact. I really like being a Big Daddy, it's weird to see it from the other side. I get so attached to the Little Sisters, and they do a good job of making me want to protect them. They're so much cuter than in the first game! And it keeps things interesting, since I fear we're retreading too much of the same story. I wasn't at all surprised to learn Irrational Games didn't make this one. As for the claustrophobic feeling, I think I remember watching an interview with the head of Irrational's development team where he said they were going for the opposite with the cloud city of Columbia. But if you think about it, it's just a trade for one means of confinement over another, as you're just as trapped up in the air as you were underwater. If you like story driven games with a solid narrative and interesting characters, Bioshock is where it's at. I don't know if you know this, but the first two Bioshocks have a lot to do with Ayn Rand's philosophy of Objectivism, and some of it feels pulled straight from the pages of Atlas Shrugged. It's a surprisingly deep story, with moral choice at its core. The combat is exciting, the locations are beautifully detailed, and the overall experience is as thought provoking as it is fun (protip: a lot of both).
windpl Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 Bioshock 1 was boring as hell, couldn't play it. BS2 become pure awesome when I hit the end of it. I can wait for bioshock 3, I placed embargo on myself regarding to anything spoilish about it.

BS2 was a little boring in the begining but it built up and I agree with you about the ending of BS2 it was awsome. QueenBee. Not so sure about BS3 they are moving from their main market. It can be hit and miss. It looks spectacular. It is again as original as BS1. Unique and intneresting, but not sure it will hit its mark. Edit: Here you go a link to some nice Bioshock Wallpapers. Something to aid the craving until you can play the game. http://wallpaperswide.com/bioshock-desktop-wallpapers

Could be a supreme hit, but in the other hand, they are risking for a major failure. Just time will tell...
myuhinny Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 I bought bioshock 2 quite awhile ago from a game store place that buys/trades games and I just now recently decided to install it a little bit ago. Played till I got to the 2nd area and it ctd right at the start of it. At the time I didn't waste time setting up a account for it I have now set up a account for it but haven't had the desire to play it again and if find if the ctd is there all the time. Installed the painkiller pandemonium set a little bit after the ctd so I have been playing that.
The DarkSlayer Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 First one blew my mind cause of the twist near the end. Second one was meh, but the ending made me shed manly tears. Looking forward to the third one. Probably the only triple A title I'll buy this month.

Installed the painkiller pandemonium set a little bit after the ctd so I have been playing that. Never had any CTDs (running with the 1.5 patch). But if you want the Little Sisters to say more, you basically have to install the Protector Trials DLC.(and play a round of it) Since the 1.4 patch removed their dialogues. [spoiler=Patch 1.4 Unlisted fixes and Errors] Enables BioShock 2 to play the new Protector Trials DLC Changes the game version # visibly displayed in the Single Player main menu to Version 1.4 Enables music in the game's Single Player main menu (Console versions already had this; for PC, the music was always included in the game files, but it didn't play.) Overwrites User.ini on installation and on start up. Dramatically increases Single Player GFWL sign-in time due to added GFWL sign-in bug. Audio for Little Sister dialogue no longer appears in single player until a session in the Protector Trails DLC has been played. http://bioshock.wikia.com/wiki/BioShock_2_Patches

I don't think I ever had any patches unless the game downloaded them itself and I have no dlc's. Reading the patches it says that the first patch in the list patch 1.0.0.1 fixed a crash while playing Dionysus Park.
Vulgaris Magistralis Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 The only thing at first I was unsure was, was the change of scenery. Rapture was amazing, it fit what was going on in Bioshock 1 and 2, then the sudden shift to open air and it taking place in a city in the fucking sky! Sure Rapture pretty much flooded by the end of Bioshock 2. I've gotten over my worry that it just plain won't feel the same, but it'll probably nag at me to an extent.
Queen Bee Posted March 20, 2013 Author Posted March 20, 2013 I'm sure fans of System Shock playing the first Bioshock had to get used to not being on a space station in the future, too.
polluxval Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 let's not confuse the relation beetween systemshock and bioshock. the last one it's only a spiritual succesor as stated here in wikipedia: Critics praised System Shock and hailed it as a major innovation in its genre. It was later placed on multiple hall of fame lists. The game was a moderate commercial success, with sales exceeding 170,000 copies; but Looking Glass ultimately lost money on the project. A sequel, System Shock 2, was released by Looking Glass Studios and off-shoot developer Irrational Games in 1999. The 2000 game Deus Ex, the 2007 game BioShock, and the 2008 game Dead Space are spiritual successors to the two games.

I was mostly being facetious, but I could see some confused System Shock fans getting all butthurt because Bioshock wasn't exactly like their favorite game. I never played, can't because Dosbox hates my computer, so it doesn't matter to me. As for Infinite, it will be weird seeing people's faces and interacting with them directly. Bioshocks 1 and 2 had you talking to people mostly through radios and from the other side of a glass partition.

The Protector Trials DLC is free, but it's a real pain to download (GFWL version). Not only do you have to let the GFWL client update itself, but then you have to wait for the DLC to download and on top of it all, you have to quit and then relaunch the game just to be able to play the DLC which adds itself in the "Extras" menu.
