Well, either I missed that on my first playthrough or I completely forgot about it only 5 months later... Now I'm wondering in which area that was... *googlegooglegoogle* OK... Splinterlands. Will be checking it out this evening.
Irishredneck Posted May 28, 2020 Posted May 28, 2020 The very first time I encountered the Cyber Demon. DOOM (Original first edition) ... I had seen a demo of this "DOOM" game playing on a loop in Walmart. HAD to have it. Had to have a computer also to play it. I bought both. I had just got back from over-seas and had some spending cash. The computer salesman in Walmart (read that again and think back to a smaller time...!) Sold me a 386 w/VGA monitor running an amazing 16 MHz! $3500 IIRC? I had been around plenty of IBM PCs at work, but this one was MINE! Life was good. I wanted to play that game SO DAMN BAD I learned how to build PCs (No one knew shit back then about PCs.) Which was good. I ended up with some fairly cush well paying jobs because I was "The Computer Guy" . But I digress. I played DOOM. And played. Did I mention this was also the very first time I had ever played ANY computer game. Fucking A skippy this game was a blast. First time through. I'm learning fast and picking up shit, plenty of deaths. Getting through and fucking shit up! Yeah. In a casual conversation with the Walmart PC salesman, I learned the fucking game has SOUND. I bought speakers. My last save was right before I was to open the Cyber Demon's door. If you don't know what I mean, you need to find out. Fuuuuck it got me good. That shit was horrifying. And I consider myself to be fairly brave, sometimes bordering on stupid. I ran like a scared kid to my death. Cyber Demon beat my ass. And finally kicking that big fucker to the ground is STILL the top satisfying moment for me. No question.

If the ORIGINAL Doom is in there, I highly recommend it. It's very dated, and a veteran gamer will have no problems with it. But you have to not ever know a damn thing about it. Don't look at anything online for clues, hints, etc. Figger that shit out!
Guest Posted June 9, 2020 Posted June 9, 2020 Definitely The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion because this is the very first game that pulled me into the modding community. I first played it on PlayStation 3. Later on I did my research and found out people were modding this game on PC. It's what urged me to get my first computer and start modding. I added tons of weapons and skimpy outfit mods for the Dunmer female character I created. I enjoyed the creativity of taking screen shots when I added a posing mod to my load order. I also enjoyed making my female Dunmer to look sexy. I just posted up old screenshots as the female Dunmer character I used to play in that game back in the day. When you ask what are my most satisfying moments in a video game? Definitely this one because if it wasn't for this game, I would have never known about the modding community in the first place. I love this community and proud to be one of the many members in it.
AshleySOAD Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 TF2 - Getting a random crit kill on someone who has been dominating me, then i taunt. There is nothing like it i tell you!
Shermie Posted July 21, 2020 Posted July 21, 2020 Finishing invisible mode on RE1 remake to get a message from the creator. Killing Ruby and Emerald weapon in FF7 Getting all the Stars in Suikoden . Getting Vandalier rank in Vandal hearts. Getting r12 Hero in Guild Wars 1.actually got to 13..but 12 was the landmark Killing Ozma in ff9. Just a few to mention.

But, I also side with him because he has a vision and explains that- as distasteful as slavery may be- it is completely necessary for the prosperity of the whole community for a time. Whether he actually frees everyone when they get a cure is another story. I like to imagine that if he doesn't keep his promise, then the kid from 101 is going to come back and start kicking some serious ass. That's actually one of my fave dlcs from any game. Getting every piece of steel from the trainyard and winning those fights for your freedom without cheating is very satisfying. Slavery is corruption of the soul of the society that uses it. It becomes in grained in their lives to a point that they cannot function properly without it.

Sure a worker can choose to quit their job and then immediately have to look for another means to support themselves and family and maybe a few vices (hence the liquor store on every corner in poorer neighborhoods). Societies haven't changed in the fact that many work to get by and to build and maintain things while their masters get richer. Traditional slavery just strips away any illusions of rights or freedom. Let's say for the sake of argument that Ashur grants those people their freedom. Now he has to pay them to do the same job, so he no longer sees to their basic needs like shelter, food, medicine, and other things and sells it to them instead. The workers are now being paid for their work, but since they now have to buy all these things with their wages, they can't afford to ever quit working. Ashur and company are grinning ear to ear since not only did they keep the slav....*ahem* I mean workers, now they get to exploit them commercially as well- taking every cent they gave them back and leaving them in debt. What has changed? The guards go back to cracking the whip with just a little less force this time around. Wealth and power always flow up, not down and the only way to beat "the man" is to become the new one.

It was a a run where I'd been blatantly abusing alchemy, I'll make no bones about it. In fact, the sole point of that run was to see if I could fly to Dagoth Ur at level 2 or so and kill the Heart, bare handed, and without any of Kagrenac's Tools. That doesn't make that particular moment any less satisfying, however. I'm of the opinion that you're not playing Morrowind properly unless you're abusing its mechanics(and bunny hopping everywhere). I probably had some amazing gaming moments, but these days I can't even remember yesterday. I suppose it's very satisfying when playing Team Fortress 2 as a pyro and you're on a streak with airblast->flair kills. You airblast somebody, switch to flair, lead the target and fire, and watch them fly right into it. Most satisfying crit sound ever.

I don't honestly see it as abuse, to be honest. The game is about becoming a living god, or demigod/saint anyway. You ought to be able to perform feats beyond the reach of mere mortals. So long as you don't overdo it to the point where the game stops being fun, I really can't see a problem.
Decèdere Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 Well you did use the word "abuse" though lol, but I feel you. I used to create low level spells for every school of magic and spam them constantly everywhere I went to train those skills without even trying. I always created a spell or enchantment that would summon a Scamp, soul trap it, and kill it all at once, and it would fill a common soul gem worth 4k at Creeper. This was the Xbox version mind you. Since some merchants had restocking supplies of soul gems it was an early-game method for infinite gold. I'm sure there were better ways though. One thing I did always try to avoid was the soul trap permanent spell effect glitch with spellcrafting... except to raise armies of game-crashing minions that would live indefinitely. Good times that game.
s.kirmish Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 One of the first tippy toe steps into modding via Oblivion I guess was pretty memorable for me. I had used the campaign editor in Warcraft 3 extensively before, and thus was motivated to do something when I saw Elderscrolls having a similar editor for the fans to use. After I figured some things out, I went to show them of at my friends place and begun experimenting a bit there. I created a couple of "force" spells and ammunitions, which were a pretty novel and fun thing to play around with back then (we couldn't get enough of ragdoll), and then transformed the Amulet of Kings in the 'Amulet of Cheater Kings' (weight 1000). When it was worn, you would lose all stamina and fall to the ground, and so would the amulet, but a message would tell you that you have been granted wisdom in form of these spells, even though it nearly suffocated you. I had arrows with different amounts of the force spells implanted, where the mid tier turned the inhabitants of the mage's college into a soup of spaghetti limbs. Later at the beach, we tested the highest grade arrow on a mere mudcrab, and it flipped over the sea like a skipping stone, then hit a solid rock on the other side shooting it off vertically like rocket never to be seen again. We couldn't breathe. This was still before glitch and fail videos were widespread, so this kind of game mechanic fun was also very novel to witness, and brutally hilarious. Fus Ro Da before there was Fus Ro Da; good and simpler times. Games that influenced me the most were definitely Final Fantasy IX, X and VIII, but no specific moment in them made that feasible. They just permeated me with their music, and typical passion focused Japanese writing style.

Normally, if I pose something like this, I end up with someone arguing that I'm abusing the game mechanics. I thought it might save some time to just acknowledge the point up front.
Decèdere Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 Ah, gotcha. I'd just be like, "Hell yeah I am." I walk diagonally to move faster. Game abused.
gregathit Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 Holy smokes I love Skyrim again. I've added several mods that increase bandit spawns and the obligatory sex mods of course. I stumble on a bandit camp accidentally and am only saved because half of the 30 odd bandits are engaged in sex. Kill those who aren't and then wait for the others to finish by sniping them from hiding. Damn this is actually fun!!!!

jfraser Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 The first time I actually finished a game. My formative years were in the 80s when Pac Man Fever was such a cultural phenomenon that it actually became a song. games were supposed to just get harder and harder and faster and faster until you eventually died. They did not end. So the first time that I played Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight and actually defeated the game was a momentous moment in my video gaming history.

The reason I side with Ashur is because I trust him and his wife to better be able to find a cure than Wernher who looked like he was set up to create Frankenstein again. Think he had a few bottles of whisky mixed in with the baby formula for crying out loud. Why squander the best chance for everyone by giving the kid to him? Leave it in the hands of people who might actually know what they're doing and bonus points for them being the loving parents. Cure first. Human rights second. 101 walks away feeling quite satisfied with her decisions. Thinking about it this much almost makes me want to go back and mod a happy ending. Playing TR 2013 again right now and having a blast. Just got the whole trilogy with all dlc. Just wish she looked this good in game - more modding to be done.
RitualClarity Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 Asher has the education (comparison to others there) skills and understanding how to get things done. After all he did all that already. Also being born and breed as a solder he has the capability of making the uncomfortable choice(s) I'd be worried if he was a (total) sociopath/psychopath but didn't see it after getting to know him better (at least from what I remember) However, to be honest, I believe the entire situation would have been much better had the Brotherhood of Steel with the mentality of those in the Fallout 3 had than with Ashur. It always seemed as if he had too much on his plate to properly handle everything. NOt to mention he didn't have the resources, training or understanding that Lyons and them had.

It still has a bit of ups and downs storywise but gameplaywise it's really solid. I like how they handled the DLC incorporations in Shadow of the TR. All games have some beautiful set pieces as well. SPOILER WARNING!!!
XRay777 Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 Well there where some of this Moments and iam also playing for a long time Video Games since 1990/1991 but i can remember when i had this Moment sharing it with my Brother on a Game called Dune the Battle for Arrakis on Sega Genesis / Sega Mega Drive. It was just such a minor thing but we thought it to be so big, because the Mentor (who shows up at the beginning and Ending of a Mission) told us we could now use the Sonic Tank and we both looked at each other and hat similair reactions like growing eyes and a WoooW on our lips. That was really satisfying i guess.
