dje34 Posted October 12, 2019 Posted October 12, 2019 So I'm planning on buying The Sims 4 because when I see all the incredible mods around these forums I just can't stop telling myself : " 1,555 mods for TS4 ! If they did as good as they did for Skyrim I would really be a dumbass not buying TS4 and modding it" BUT I also just can't stop telling myself : "I won't buy this game 1,000 $ (because it literaly costs 1,000 $ for original game with all the dlcs)" So I'm asking you : What do I HAVE TO buy to play a LL modded TS4 game ? What do I DON'T HAVE TO buy to play a LL modded TS4 game ? And I really hope you won't tell me I have to buy this game 1000 $.
Vthena Posted October 12, 2019 Posted October 12, 2019 I'm pretty sure the base game is enough for almost every mods.
ProximaMidnight Posted October 12, 2019 Posted October 12, 2019 WickedWhims by itself only requires the base game. If something needs an expansion, it will mention it on the page for whatever file you're looking at.
bearlyAlive Posted October 12, 2019 Posted October 12, 2019 The only expansion you kinda need is pets if you want bestiality, everything else is pretty much everything is optional.
La Nitro Posted October 12, 2019 Posted October 12, 2019 All you pretty much need is the base game, which by itself is on sale quite often.
CanadianGhost Posted October 12, 2019 Posted October 12, 2019 @dje34 Currently I am just using the Base Game and I have enough mods to keep me busy for a long while. Does that mean I get to play with all the cool mods? No Most of them? Yes. If I want all the cool mods, I believe you need the Base Game + Get To Work + Get Together + Spa Day (?) But for the bulk of the mods, base game should be more than fine. And buy The Sims 4 when it's on sale. Same with Xpacs.
Mariana Soprano Posted October 13, 2019 Posted October 13, 2019 @dje34 You only need the base game for the basics of WW (and it is a lot of stuff in the meantime), sex positions for special furnitures are mostly mentioned in the mod descriptions. BDSM furnitures do not need DLCs. Vampire animations need Vampires ? for meditation, sauna, massagetable etc. you need spa day. Sometimes CC needs the meshes of a special DLC. Buy the base game, have the sales (50 %) in mind and wait a while for a sale, if you like to buy DLCs. If you ask me, you only need base game, some mods and CC, Sims 4 studio (updating CC for the patches - free), Sims 4 Tray Importer (free) and maybe a lot of time hunting after your prefered stuff.
dje34 Posted October 13, 2019 Author Posted October 13, 2019 Thanks a lot to all of you for your answers.
Oops19 Posted October 13, 2019 Posted October 13, 2019 It makes sense to add some DLCs: Get To Work + Get Together (+Spa Day) (+Get Famous) Black Friday in 6 weeks may be a good day to get them. Anyhow key sellers sell the game with 4 packs for <$100 (50-60% off) already. Also ebay sellers have great offers, at least in the US.
Scorpio Posted October 13, 2019 Posted October 13, 2019 Yup, got mine on Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales. Base game + Get Together bundle, Later on Spa Day and a few other game packs.

I've been putting off buying the Sims 4 on P.C., the EA store is really confusing. - Buying the base Sims 4 game... EA Store £35, or Amazon £20. - Buying the DLC... multiple confusing ways. ( called Packs ) Origin Access Basic ( monthly/yearly rental ) Origin Access Premier ( monthly/yearly rental ) Buy from EA £35 Amazon................. Get to work DLC is £20 EA store................. Get to work DLC is £35 Making sure you buy the correct version, is not easy. Origin PC, XBox One and Playstation 4. No plain old PC option, that is under the Origin PC section. All whilst being very coy about telling you the prices, its just a confusing mess. That's why I prefer Steam, easy to use. But no Sims on Steam. I'm the same with Fallout 76, their Bethesda.net store is just a mess. It's like a Library, with all the books on the floor. Trying to find the Creation Kit, for Fallout 4 is a task and a half. Gazillions of high price DLC for The Sims 4 is off putting, its nice. But not for poor people.

Granted you'll still need to download Origin, but you'll sacrifice having to install one more client for saving some money by buying from Amazon.

Sorry... what I'm meaning is, it's a really confusing system. Like all other EA monetisation, with their half a dozen ways to buy a game. Buying on Amazon, yeah... that's why I put the prices up, its much cheaper. I do that with my Kasperski Internet Security, getting it for £15 from Amazon, as oppose to £30 - £45. I don't own Sims 4, which is rough for me. I used to even make my own mods for them, but they got too expensive to buy. Their Digital version, never getting really cheap, as far as I know. Like with Steam sales, when I impulse purchase games for £3. The mods in Sims 4, are amazing looking. A lot of effort going into them. But there is a limit to how much I'll spend, even on an excellent game. But, if I do eventually buy it, it'll be off Amazon at a rock bottom price. Probably, just before Sims 5 gets released. I don't know when that would be, as EA are still making DLC's for Sims 4. Prices I'm watching for... Main game... £10 DLC's... £5 each I'm very patient, it will eventually happen on Amazon. Digital content, tends to take their high prices to the grave with them, Sony being the worst offender I've come across for that. In short... yes... you are correct, Amazon is cheaper. Problems with waiting = being online, EA pulling the plug on older games, to strong-arm you into buying their new one. But, I don't know if they'd close a shop that is still making money.
rb813 Posted October 17, 2019 Posted October 17, 2019 To just do Wicked Whims (with a whole lot of sex animations), you only need the base game. Beyond that, I think it would make more sense to figure out what kind of specific kinks or fetishes you want to indulge in, and then find out whether they need anything beyond the base game. If you want Bestiality, you need the Cats and Dogs expansion. If you want to do a dirty massage parlor or yoga studio, you need the Spa Day expansion, etc. If you found a specific custom character you want to include in your game, you need to find out which expansions that character uses (if you want them to look exactly like the modder intended, or you can always just give them different clothes). But just for basic "Sims with sex," you only need the base game.

The modders don't tend to add the Packs needed, to their list of requirements for their mods. Just the mod that are needed to get them running. So it can get a little hazy, to what Packs are needed. I've played Sims a lot, in the past. So, I know that they are long lasting games, and time-sinks. So, even the base game, would give me a lot of play-time. As for fetishes and kinks, I'll take them all. I'm pretty enlightened... I know its just a game... Xmas is coming soon, so I may get myself some Sims 4 for it...

Yeah, I only have the base game and Get to Work (which I didn't even end up needing, because I found a "Live In Business" mod that allows you to have a business on your own residential lot), and I'm pretty well addicted already. If the only thing you ever did in the game was put all the sex animations from this site into the mod folder, and then activate them one by one, it would probably take you dozens of hours, if not hundreds, to get through them all (and that's not even counting if you watch the same ones again with different participants). I only have about 15 animation packages in my mods folder, and that already gives me over 250 animations for vaginal sex (never mind the other categories) just for Floor or Double Bed (never mind all the other locations)! I couldn't even begin to guess how many total animations there are, in every category and every location, and there are still dozens of animation packages I haven't downloaded yet (granted, I think I have downloaded all of the most voluminous ones already).
Cataclysimz Posted October 17, 2019 Posted October 17, 2019 The base game is pretty much all that you need to use any big mod out there.. Mods requiring DLC are too far and in between. I wouldn't worry about that. The only 2 DLC's i'd absolutely recommend are Seasons and Cats and Dogs.. only because they add more gameplay and change the game in a meaningful way if you plan to be on the realistic side of things. Edit: Some animations do require DLC objects but those too are sparse and do not represent the majority of animations.

I started playing The Sims 1, when it originally came out. Making some basic mods for that. I got The Sims 2, when it was released. Stopped making my own mods, as the package system was making modding it, too long winded. I don't think I got The Sims 3 for some reason. At least I can't remember playing it. The Sims 4, EA moved to their own store. Their system of purchase baffling me, as they always do. Putting me off purchasing it. The mods being like a huge magnet, dragging me back to wanting to buy it. The confusion of EA's store, dragging me away from buying it. I've put hundreds of hours into The Sims 1 and 2 in the past, its great fun. With mods, the sky's the limit. As you look for ways to improve your experience.

I was way into Sims 3 for a while, but I got tired of it eventually. The reason I started playing Sim 4 is that Origin gave it away for free one time (I have no idea what the occasion was, but they probably did end up selling a lot of DLC to people who got hooked on the free base game but wanted more). I'm glad they did that giveaway, because if they hadn't, I never would've known what I was missing.
deathbywesker Posted October 18, 2019 Posted October 18, 2019 Happy you’re getting the sims 4, this may have been said already but I recommend you wait until EA/Maxis has a huge sale for the base game and/or any of the suggested packs.

Yeah... I will do that. I'll keep a check on their EA and Origin store. I've added them to my wish list on the store, it should send me updates for deals, I'm guessing.
